Chapter 14
I understood Charlie's way of thinking. I had to go through the same thing Bryan's going through. Only Ghostfreak was attached to me at the time. I didn't feel the full effects of my powers because Ghostfreak shielded me from them. I was pained in a different way; by the seizures Ghostfreak would force upon my body. The only whispers I heard back then was his own voice. I chalked it up to bad dreams. I always had this feeling that he was there but couldn't fully grasp the concept of it. I was little just like Bryan. I also did not have diabetes. I didn't have the pressures of being an older sister until much later. He's full of pressures and stress for one so young. I I understand that. It's just I trust my mother and I trust that what she is doing will pay off. Charlie needs to give it a chance. I wasn't sore at him. Just a little surprised by his suggestion.
That night I was home a little late. Charlie had just finished cooking supper and making the kids plates. We were going to have baked chicken with broccoli and cheese. I took my shoes off as soon as I entered the house. I entered our dining room and put my purse on the back of a chair. Our living room was a mess; covered in the girls toys. Mira quickly approached me.
"Mommy! Mommy!"
"What is it baby?"
"Daddy is in the kitchen doing something bad."
"Huh?"
"I'll show you."
She lead me into the kitchen. I'm not sure what I thought Charlie could be doing, but upon entering the kitchen I just smiled and snorted a laugh.
"See Mommy! He made broccoli!"
"Mirabelle, I told you it'll be good for you." Charlie replied.
Mira made a disgust face and stuck her tongue out.
"Mira...why don't you go play with your sisters I wanna talk to your Daddy alone."
"Okay be sure you send him to his room Mommy!"
Charlie and I laughed, we then stared at each other.
"Har listen-"
"Charlie I-"
We said together.
"Go ahead Har."
"I was just going to say...I do agree with you...but I also believe Mom can help Bryan. She said it would take some time...So we need to give it a chance."
"Alright...I agree with you but this afternoon he was scared to death to go over there...he practically begged me not to take him...and Mrs. Watson said he no longer looks forward to going home...I think she suspected dysfunction in our family."
"Okay...I understand...that's far from the truth, but I see where you made your decision...how about after the holidays he can start training with Mom again?"
Charlie smiled.
"I think Bryan would find comfort in that."
I kissed his cheek.
"Do you need help here in the kitchen? I can get their drinks if you wa-"
Out of nowhere Bryan screamed a loud high pitched cry. Charlie and I stopped what we were doing and ran to his bedroom. He appeared to be at one time playing with his army men. He was in the floor screaming and crying. His sisters looked on in fear. They also began to cry.
I got on my knees and pulled my hair behind my ears.
"Bryan?! Bryan It's Mommy!"
He jolted and tried to swat my hands away as I tried to pick him up.
"Bryannn!" I screamed. "Charlie help me!"
"Come on girls!"
He lead the girls out of the room. When they were gone he returned and got on his knees near Bryan and me. Charlie actually managed to pull Bryan up by his arms. We got him standing but he would not open his eyes.
"Bry...Bryan Jay LeMay...it's Daddy...open your eyes and please tell me what's wrong."
Charlie held Bryan by his wrists. He shook him a little.
"Bry! Come on Bry."
"Mira..." Bryan said softly.
"What about Mira, baby?" I said sweetly. I then stroked his hair.
"Help!" Somebody please help!" Bryan sobbed.
"We are! Son, we're right here!"
"Wait a minute!" I spoke out. I gently placed my hands on the sides of Bryan's head. I gasped.
"What?! Harmione what is it?!"
"It's a vision...he's having a vision."
Bryan tried to pull away from Charlie and screamed.
"Well what do we do for him!?" Charlie hollered over Bryan's cries.
"Let it pass."
"Harmione!"
"Let it pass Charlie!"
Bryan gasped and finally opened his eyes. He began to breathe heavily.
"It's okay Bry... It's okay." Charlie told him.
"Daddy!" Bryan cried. He leaned forward and cried into Charlie's chest. Charlie just put his arms around him.
"It's okay...it's all over now bud...I think."
"Bryan..."
I turned him to face me. I was able to look inside his mind to see he was having a vision, but the vision on my end was clouded.
"Bryan, what did you see?"
"It was Mira! She was choking!"
"Choking?" I looked at Charlie.
"On a piece of broccoli...She couldn't breathe and her face got all blue." Bryan wiped his tears. "I...I tried to help her, but I couldn't!"
"That's okay..." I calmly explained. "Thank you..."
I pulled Bryan into a hug because he was still crying. Charlie then got to his knees.
"Well...looks like I'll toss the broccoli out..." He said as he left the room.
"Baby...that was a vision you just had...a premonition of the future. When you have visions like that they can be scary and they can hurt your cortex...but that's all that was."
"It was real."
"And they will feel that way...every time."
I knew his head was hurting him. I gently placed it on my shoulder and stroked his hair.
"Daddy and I were thinking that if you want... you don't have to train with your Grandma until after the holidays...we never want to make you do anything you don't want to do...other children aren't given the opportunities you'll have. Or face the challenges you'll face. Whatever you decide though, no matter what happens, your Daddy and I won't let anything happen to you."
"I...I love you Mommy."
"I love you too Bry..."
"I want to train with Grandma...it's just...I want a break...my head hurts all the time now."
He began to tear up again.
"Oh sweetheart." I pulled him into another hug. I kissed his cheek and held the back of his head.
"Then it's a break you'll get."
After Bryan's first vision attack Charlie was afraid to leave his side. I had just finished my shower. I had on my robe and a towel on my head. I walked by the kids room. Across the bed at the bottom sleeping long ways at their feet was Charlie. All four of my babies slept silently. Charlie snored only once and rolled over on his stomach. I removed the towel from my head and began squeezing and massaging it through my damp curly hair. I walked over to Charlie. I gently poked his shoulder.
"Mmm..." He mumbled.
"Charlie..." I whispered.
He sighed and rolled over on his side.
"Yeah...what's up Har?" He replied and stretched.
"You'll never get any sleep that way...go get in our bed."
"Huh? No...no I'm fine here..."
"Char...The girls and Bryan will be just fine."
"I'm fine where I am...come on."
He reached for me and grabbed me around the waist.
"Charlie!"
He pulled me over to him. I laid down on top of him. He strongly held me in place.
"Now...I'm fine where I am...goodnight Har."
"Charlie...I'm naked and wet...I got to dry my hair and-"
"Oh yeah?" He reached into my robe and stroked my breasts.
"Charlie!" I breathed.
"So...you're naked and wet...go to sleep."
I groaned in frustration.
"Alright, alright...go get ready for bed and sleep in our room if you really want too." He let me go and kissed the side of my head.
"Love you babe. Goodnight."
"And I love you... Goodnight Charlie."
I got dressed for bed and got my hair nice and dry. I thought having our bed to myself would make me feel more comfortable but I missed Charlie. I ended up sleeping with him and the kids as well.
