Prologue:

Dakota

While most pureblood families only wanted a single male heir, and sometimes maybe a spare, Lucius Malfoy wanted to have a daughter.

While the Malfoy family was rich and well-known, it is not known by many that the family has been cursed centuries back with only having a single male child for each generation. So in this alternate world, after the heir to the pureblood House of Malfoy, Draco Lucius Malfoy, was born, Lucius and his wife Narcissa, determined to have a daughter, sought the help of Severus Snape, the genius youngest potions master of Britain, in hopes of creating a potion powerful enough to break the curse.

In JK Rowling's original world, Lucius and Narcissa, while determined to have more children, were unable to do so, set on to keep the knowledge of the bloodcurse strictly within the members of the Malfoy household, as it had been done by generations and generations of Malfoys not wanting the public to know of any sort of weakness concerning their House, less people think less of their family name and subject them to ridicule, or maybe even use this knowledge of their family curse as a weapon wielded against them and easily ending their family line by killing a helpless infant heir, knowing that his Malfoy parents wouldn't be able to have another.

Moreover, letting people know about such curses poses a danger to everyone, as it gives the general public who are usually ignorant of complicated curses such as this one, the information that curses that last generations existed. Endangering the future existence of the entire wizarding world, especially of the old pureblood families, in the instance this becomes common knowledge and people began casting curses such as these to each other, limiting their already scarce population especially that in comparison to the population of the muggle world. Thus the knowledge of the existence of blood curses are usually only known to old pureblood families.

The Malfoy family, instead, decided to make it seem as if it was a deliberate decision for every generation to only have one child. Proclaiming, rather haughtily, that one child is already enough in the Malfoy family and they didn't need another.

So, resigning themselves to the thought and fully believing that there was no way around the ancient bloodline curse of the Malfoy family, Lucius and Narcissa contented themselves with the idea of having only one child in the early stages of their marriage.

This desire to have more children, but unable to have so, made them spoil their only son, Draco, rotten. Giving him whatever he wants whenever he wants. Easily forgiving transgressions without any repercussions. Letting him do whatever he wants with full love and support; and easily sweeping in to solve any of his problems, self-caused or otherwise.

The fact that the Malfoys were able to only sire one male child every generation, despite their desire to have more, also contributed to the already tense relation between the Malfoys and the Weasley family, another old pureblood family, but was scorned for their close associations with muggles and muggleborns.

Lucius Malfoy regards the family of his fellow pureblood, Arthur Weasley, extreme contempt and jealousy, seeing as they seemingly have no problems producing more and more children despite their family's lack of monetary funds, almost as if deliberately rubbing the painful fact that he would only ever have one son all over Lucius face. But of course, since Arthur Weasley, like the rest of the wizarding world, is ignorant of this fact, he was only left clueless and indignant of Lucius Malfoy's seemingly irrational resentment against him and his family. This was only added on by the already strained relations that have existed between their families for hundreds of years caused by a blood feud between the two houses.

In this world though, Lucius and Narcissa, desperate to have another child and unwilling to accept that they really have no choice or power of having a decision over the matter, had thought of asking their friend, Severus Snape, for help. And while he didn't manage to create a potion that would completely nullify the bloodline curse, Snape was able to invent a potion that would let them have just one more child, sure to be a girl.

This was done after having a closer look into the Malfoy family curse. The young potions master discovered that while the Malfoy curse indeed prevents the conception of another child, the curse was rooted more on preventing another male child, thus giving them a bit more leeway in producing a daughter rather than another son. Although only a temporary fix and extremely difficult, Severus Snape wasn't known as a genius in the realm of potions for nothing. He was able to manipulate the contents of the bloodcurse just a bit, for a limited amount of time, enabling the conception of another child.

As a result of that, Dakota Amelié-Lynx Malfoy of the Ancient and Noble House of Malfoy, daughter of lord Lucius Abraxas Malfoy and the lady Narcissa Malfoy née Black was born in September of 1981 as the first ever female Malfoy and the first ever second child of the Malfoy Family to be born in centuries. With her parents naming her godfather to be Severus Snape, who played a large role in making her existence possible; along with her mother's sister, lady Bellatrix Lestrange née Black, as her godmother.

Of course due to the existence of another child, the Malfoys' interaction with the Weasley family aren't as tense as the one in JK Rowling's universe, as in this world, Lucius Malfoy is fully contented in having 2 wonderful children, and therefore, not jealous of Arthur Weasley's brood.

Doted upon by her father, Dakota or Amelie as she is called by her family, took delight in being Draco's annoying little sister, usually teaming up with her cousin, Heloise Lestrange who was raised by the Malfoys following the incarceration of the Lestrange Family, in pranking the poor boy. Sometimes, when their cousin, Aquila visits, she would also help them out rather enthusiastically, as she delights in being given opportunities to show off how creative she could be in hatching plots and how ridiculous she could make a situation become, simply for entertainment.

Dakota grew up extremely intelligent, easily taking to her various lessons like a fish to water. She could easily surpass her brother Draco, and her cousin, Heloise, in their studies. But, while Heloise didn't really mind, Draco could be a brat at times and often couldn't accept the fact that his younger sister is a lot smarter than him. While sometimes harsh words were spoken, he didn't really mean it, he is just majorly irritated in an older-sibling-who-is-always-being-owned-by-their-younger-sibling type of way. Dakota isn't the type to lay back like a doormat however, Draco's inability to just shut his mouth in the face of anger and frustration against Dakota is often met with a sneaky retribution of her end often times helped by a bored and slightly sadistic Heloise who wants to see Draco scream like a little girl at the various tricks and pranks that they could think off.

While Narcissa would fondly chide or tell them off whenever they were caught, depending on how damaging or embarrassing for Draco their pranks are, Lucius would simply hide his grin and turn around, pretending he didn't notice anything. It could be easily seen that while Draco is definitely a mama's boy, Dakota has Lucius completely twisted around her little finger.
