Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Remutated
Chapter 2: World's Meet
It was the next day, where April was telling Zach and Irma about what happened yesterday. They were meeting at the local arcade.
Irma exclaimed, "so you got jumped last night? That sounds horrible! Are you okay?"
April replied, "yeah. But it was very strange. Something knocked the lights out, and when they came back on, all of the men were taken down. That's when Zach found me. All I could find as evidence was this..."
April pulled out the sai she had found.
Irma asked, "what the heck IS that?"
"That's what we're trying to find out", replied Zach, "and more importantly, whoever left it there."
"I think I might know."
The others turned to see Casey there, without his pack of weapons and mask.
Irma blushed as she said, "h-hey Casey."
Zach asked, "what do you mean you might know?"
Casey sat down and said, "I was out last night. And I saw a really strange sight. Some guy with green skin and a red mask. Looked more like an animal than a man. A turtle, or frog or something. I think I saw one of those things under his coat. It think the weapon's called a sai."
April replied, "it sounds like whoever's against these Foot Clan guys might not be human."
Irma added, "that just sounds nuts."
"In any other place, sure", Zach shrugged, "but in New York City? Doesn't exactly sound out-of-place."
Casey replied, "still, something strange is going on."
Irma then said, "you say that a lot Casey."
Casey looked at Irma and said, "well, someone's gotta look out for ya Irma."
Irma blushed again.
April then looked at her watch and said, "I gotta get home. Zach, you wanna walk there together, since our places are close?"
Zach replied, "sure, why not?"
"See you around guys", said Casey.
"Bye", Irma added.
April and Zach waved to their friends as they both left for home.
The two of them were going to board the subway. It was unusually empty at this time as they waited for the next train to arrive.
Zach felt very uneasy for some reason.
As if to lend credence to his uneasiness, there was suddenly a small group of people who appeared at the station. But they were dressed like the ninjas who had assaulted April last night.
Zach pushed April behind him as he said, "what do you creeps want?"
The lead man said, "you have both been digging into things that are none of your business. The Foot Clan will take New York city. And we don't need anyone getting in our way!"
April quickly took out the sai as Zach grabbed a nearby broom as a makeshift weapon.
"Then come on", he shouted, "bring it on!"
One of the ninjas suddenly pulled out a sword and sliced up the broom!
Zach grew wide-eyed as he stared at what was left of his weapon.
"... Well, THAT was pointless….", he commented as the ninjas got closer and closer.
April held her sai out like a knife, but it was quickly hit out of her hands and landed near the entrance to the subway.
But what none of them could see, was a green hand grabbing the sai.
The ninjas prepared to attack, when they heard a wild scream from the other side of the subway tunnel.
Zach grew wide-eyed as he saw a figure in a trench coat kick two of the ninjas back.
Zach and April got a good look at his face. Green and reptilian with a red mask! Just then, a ninja grabbed April and put a rag over her mouth. She started to pass out! Zach acted quickly and punched the ninja away.
Zach then quickly picked April up and took a step back as Raph started fighting off the Foot soldiers.
In a matter of minutes, each of the Foot Soldiers had gotten knocked flat, leaving Raph as the last man standing…. At least in the fight, of course. The fact he managed to get his missing sai back was an added bonus.
Raph turned to Zach and the unconscious April.
They then started to hear more people approaching.
Raph said, "come with me if you wanna live."
Zach nodded as he muttered, "a turtle quoting Arnold. Just another day in New York."
And so, putting April over his back, Zach hurried after Raph, who was heading down the subway tunnel.
The ninjas ran into the subway, but couldn't find any sight of their targets!
...
Later, Zach looked utterly perplexed at the sight of the turtles.
Leo exclaimed, "are you nuts Raph? You brought two humans into the lair!"
Raph asked, "what was I supposed to do? Leave them to get sliced up by those pajamas wearing nutjobs?"
Donnie was busy blushing at the sight of the redhead sleeping on the couch.
Mikey was looking at Zach, which kinda creeped him out.
"Uh…. Hey, there…." he spoke up.
Mikey replied, "we've never met humans. At least, not in person."
Donnie added, "we get most of our knowledge about you guys from TV."
Before they could say anything else, they all heard, "Raphael!"
They all turned to see Splinter, and Zach had to cover his mouth, as not to gasp.
Splinter continued with, "why did you bring humans to our lair?"
Raph replied, "those guys we fought the other night attacked them. I couldn't let them get hurt, or worse."
"... While I do not condone what you have done, I understand that you did it for a good reason", Splinter replied after a moment of hesitation.
"... Okay, so could I maybe get an explanation on…. This whole situation?" Zach asked, waving his hands around the room to signify what he was referring to.
Splinter replied, "we shall explain after your friend awakens. Now, may we ask your name?"
Zach nodded and said, "I'm Zach. Zach Eastman. My friend is April O'Neil."
Right at that moment, they heard April starting to wake up.
"Oh, good timing; she's waking up", Zach replied, "... But then again, she might think she's still asleep."
April blinked her eyes open, and her eyes landed on Splinter.
April got to her feet and started squealing in fright.
Mikey said, "uh, hi?"
April started screaming louder as the turtles joined in.
Splinter facepalmed as April said, "oh God, I'm dead, aren't I!?"
Zach took hold of April's shoulders and said, "April, calm down. You're not dead."
April replied, "how do you know that? Maybe YOU'RE dead, too!"
"Trust me, April…. We're as far from being dead as dead can get", Zach stated.
Splinter then interrupted with, "you must calm down Miss O'Neil."
April double-took and said, "you talk?! Can someone please explain to me what the heck is going on?"
Splinter replied, "that is a long story. Please, sit down."
Zach and April sat down.
"The story of myself and my sons is the tale of a man named Hamato Yoshi….", explained Splinter.
….
"Long ago, I was a normal man named Hamato Yoshi, living in Japan as a part of a ninja clan that rivaled the Foot Clan. I was competing with a man named Arogu Naki, for the hand of the woman I loved, Tang Shen. For a few years, our rivalry went on, until Tang Shen finally chose me. The two of us got married, and had a daughter, our little Miwa. But, Arogu was left in anguish over losing. He felt dishonor. And thus, he committed seppuku. These actions angered his brother, Aroku Saki. One night, Saki attacked our home. In our battle, I managed to scratch his face with his own weapon. But not before he took a chunk out of my ear with his own blades! A terrible fire was caused in our struggle. That night, I lost everything. My home. My beloved. My daughter. I was left for dead in the destruction, watching as Aroku Saki left..."
….
Everyone was silent as Splinter took a moment to compose himself.
Splinter continued with, "after that, I was left broken. I left Japan, and made my way to New York..."
….
"I planned to set up a dojo, and I went to a pet store, where I purchased four tiny turtles for 39 cents."
….
Mikey smiled and said, "that was us!"
The other turtles groaned while Mikey shrugged.
Splinter continued.
….
"But then, I came across a peculiar sight. Several strange men, loading some weird canisters of a green substance into a truck. They saw me, and I had to defend myself against them. But in the process, I was hit with the strange green ooze. I ended up dropping the turtles during this. All five of us were changed by whatever the men had. Transforming us into the creatures you see before you. We went to live here in the sewers after that. One day, as I fed them some pizza I had managed to get, one of them spoke!"
….
Donnie said, "Mikey's first word was pizza."
The others laughed as Mikey looked proud of it.
….
"As the boys got older, and more intelligent, I began training them in the ways of the ninja, as I was. And I named each of them after my favorite master's of the renaissance."
….
"Leonardo….", the blue-clad one nodded.
"Donatello….", the purple one took a bow.
"Raphael….", the red-banded one gave a thumbs-up.
"... And Michelangelo", the orange-clad one did a "V for Victory" sign.
Splinter gestured to himself and said, "and I took a new name, in this new form. Splinter."
Zach and April looked around at all, taking everything in.
"This is a lot to take in….", Zach mentioned, "... I mean, this whole story sounds like something out of a comic book…. Or a really good T.V. show."
Splinter nodded and said, "indeed. Our story is a long one. Filled with many sharp turns. But we hope we can trust you both not to tell the world about us?"
April replied, "we promise Master Splinter. No-one will know of your whereabouts from us."
"Keepin' it real hush-hush", Zach nodded as he zipped his lips.
Leo replied, "we very much appreciate this. Also, we need to ask you something?"
April asked, "what's that?"
Leo looked to Splinter, who nodded, and he turned back to Zach and April and said, "what do you know about the Foot Clan being in New York?"
"Well, April did an exposeé on the crime wave that they've been causing", explained Zach, "... and then they came after her, twice."
Donnie added, "so clearly, the Foot Clan is after you guys."
Zach and April nodded.
"From the way I see it, those Foot Ninjas are gonna dog those two until they know they're dead", Raph replied, "so these guys need some protection."
Donnie added, "we could protect her."
Everyone looked at Donnie.
Donnie quickly added, "I mean them! We can protect them!"
"Awesome", Zach whooped, "do we also get sweet masks too?"
Leo replied, "slow down. You guys haven't even picked up weapons yet."
"Then let's get them some", Raph said.
"This is so awesome", Mikey grinned, "I'm gonna have a buddy to hang out with, and play videogames, and do sweet ninja stuff, and eat pizza with..."
Splinter interrupted and said, "but I think it'd be best if we get these two home first. Their parents must be worried sick about them."
"Ah…. Okay", Zach relented, feeling a bit bummed out.
"Well, this was definitely an interesting day….", April remarked, "... You guys take care, alright?"
Raph then said, "me and Donnie will make sure you guys get home safely. We'll meet up with you guys tomorrow, alright?"
"Got it", April replied, "and…. Thanks, we really appreciate this."
Donnie blushed as he said, "no problem."
And with that, Raph and Donnie began leading their new friends through the sewers. April and Zach began to memorize the path from the lair to their homes.
April and Zach got out first, checking that the coast was clear.
As soon as they knew it was clear, the two teens got to the surface and headed off, while Donnie and Raph watched them go.
Raph asked, "you think it's a good idea to train them?"
Donnie replied, "it may be the only way to keep them safe, and find out more about what the Foot Clan are doing in New York. From dad's stories, nothing good can come from them being in New York."
Raph shrugged and said, "well, whatever happens, we're in for one heck of a fight, I just know it..."
And with that, the two turtles descended back down, leaving no trace of where they were.

And thus, April and Zach meet the Turtles and Splinter, and learn their origins.
Their origins is a combination of the comics and 2012 show. In the comic, Arogu Naki and Splinter were rivals competing for Tang Shen, and Aroku Saki killed them in revenge, and the human Splinter was in the 87 and 2012 cartoons.
As I work on this story, I'm also working on my retellings of Ben 10, Sym Bionic Titan, and Teen Titans.
So expect those to start up at some point. I plan on doing every single chapter before I release them, since it takes a long time to make them.
