"I volunteer. I want that. Let me do that. Please." Though his expression was, as usual, somber, he was practically hopping from foot to foot in his excitement. Wedge and Tycho looked at one another. Wedge asked, "Have you ever seen behavior like this?" Tycho shook his head. "Only when he really, really needs to run to the refresher. Hobbie, why?" "Because I am sick of it," Hobbie said. "I'm sick to death of 'Hello I'm so-and-so and I've killed this many enemies, and I challenge you, and we bow and go by the rules and say cute things to one another, and isn't it nice that we're all dead now?'" Hobbie, Wedge and Tycho, "Starfighters of Adumar" page 228 "Mr. Moony presents his compliments to Professor Snape, and begs him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business." "How many assholes are there?" "What is that annoying sound right next to my ear?" "Would you be referring to a sort of 'cooing' sound?" Data inquired. "Yes." "Ah. That would be the pigeon on your head." "Pigeon!" "Yes. A large white and grey specimen." "Get it off me!" I said in no uncertain terms. "Before it..." ~Q and Data, I,Q "There are things even I do not understand: the human facination with the accordion, for instance. And coconut oil. Incoprehensible. Oh...and baseball. The only game more boring is found on Sraticon IV. It's called Frimble, and it consists of groups of sentient beings sitting around placing bets as to when a newly painted wall will dry. It's not bad enough that they sit and watch it dry; they spend their time commenting on it, as if it were a horse race! But baseball, in terms of boredom, comes a close second to Frimble. It makes me sad to think that with the great coliseums of old, and all the pomp and circumstance, and the eating of Christians, would be turned over to a sport as banal as hitting a little white ball around a field, all the time trying to catch it. It just goes to prove certain things don't get better." ~Q in I, Q "That's just the sort of small-minded attitude I might have expected out of you," Honor observed mournfully, and shook her head. "Really, Mike, it's a very simple game." "Sure it is. That's why this is the only planet in the known universe where they still play it!" "That's not true," Honor scolded primly while the cream-and-gray treecat stretched across the back of her seat raised his head to twitch his whiskers insufferably at his person's guest. "You know perfectly well that they still play baseball on Old Earth and at least five other planets." "All right, on seven planets out of the— what? Isn't it something like seventeen hundred total inhabited worlds now?" Henke regarded her sourly, and Honor grinned back. The countess glowered, then turned an equally disapproving expression upon the armsman. "'Simple game,' " she snorted. "Right. Sure!" ~Dutchess/Steadholder Honor Harrington and Countess Michelle "Mike" Henke WJU class of 2007, Go Cards! ;) |
