Percy had a mission: He was going to kiss the sun. In his defense, he actually knew the sun was a hot blonde. He just didn't know how else to contact Apollo, aside from learning how to fly.

"I'm gonna kiss the sun."
Annabeth heaved a sigh, while Leo cheered. They were the best team to help Percy in his mission. Annabeth was the most brilliant person he knew in general and Leo was the best inventor. Their minds together must be able to come up with something. One was less cooperative than the other.
"I don't even want to know why," Annabeth unfolded the designs. "I'm only helping you if you promise me to never share any details about any of this with me."
"I call opposites," declared Leo, holding up the prototype. "I want all of the details."
Percy grinned broadly at them. Apollo was a super busy god, so Percy felt like just summoning him would disrupt the god's day. So Percy had plans to fly up there, confess and kiss Apollo. Leo handed over the wings to Percy, beaming proudly. They were gorgeous, strong metal wings. Not wax.
"Icarus Improved?" read Percy very slowly as he spotted the writing on the side.
"Yeah. Figured that's poetic. Me and Annabeth put our minds together for this, these should hold."
"If you burn, I hope you left a letter that explicitly absolves me from any fault because I could not live with Sally blaming me for your death," Annabeth glared at him pointedly.
"Annie, you couldn't live with my death period," argued Percy. "Which is okay because I'm not gonna die. I will fly up there and I will kiss the sun."
The machine was heavy, it was metal after all, but it fit well onto Percy's back. With some easy motions did he activate it, just how Annabeth had explained to him, and then he took off. Flying was – flying was amazing. Flying with a pegasus was one thing, but this? Controlling the flight himself? It was the best feeling! He took off higher and higher until he scratched the clouds. It was fun, until his wings caught fire. That was not supposed to happen, they weren't wax.
"And the Weather Girls finally come through. It is indeed raining men, hallelujah."
Percy blinked as he was caught in strong arms. A flirtatious smile was thrown his way as Apollo adjusted to carry him bridal style. That seemed like the perfect opportunity, so Percy kissed him. The Sun God looked startled, but eagerly returned the kiss while carrying Percy to the chariot.
"Hey," Percy whispered with a grin. "I figured I'd surprise you."
"I... You definitely managed that," Apollo grunted amused. "...You can surprise me again."
That sounded promising. Percy looked pleased as he got comfortable in the sun chariot.
