Oct 6th: Fireman's Carry
Pairing: Dean Thomas/Ginny Weasley
Length: Triple Drabble
Plans for the Future
"Well…before I received my Hogwarts letter, I always wanted to be a fireman," Dean told the others.
The fifth-year Gryffindors were enjoying a rare free afternoon together in their common room after they had all finished with their meetings with Professor McGonagall and that horrible Umbridge woman to discuss their desired future careers and necessary NEWT-level classes. Consequently, the conversation had naturally progressed to what they all planned to do after graduation.
"What's a fireman?" Ron asked in confusion as he glanced over at the fireplace across the room. "Do they start fires or something?"
"Honestly, Ronald!" Hermione exclaimed in exasperation as she finally looked up from the little elf-sized hat she was knitting. "Firemen are Muggles who put out dangerous fires…and save people's lives in the process."
"I think it was the saving people part that I was most interested in," Dean interrupted before a full-fledged argument could break out between the two. "I really liked the idea of carrying people out of burning buildings over my shoulder…especially lovely young women." He winked over at Ginny, who had just joined Hermione on the sofa. "It's even called the Fireman's Carry. Wanna volunteer for a demonstration?" he asked her.
Ginny, despite her ever-present feelings for a clueless Harry, could not help but to finally notice how cute Dean was…especially when he was trying to flirt with her. She suddenly realized that there were some definite possibilities there. Nevertheless, she still twirled her wand between her fingers threateningly.
"Anyone who tries to manhandle me is going to find himself receiving a seriously painful Bat Bogey hex," she promised.
"She's not kidding either, Mate," Ron added with a knowing shudder. "Those things hurt!"
The rest of the group laughed...but Dean and Ginny just smiled at each other.
