Hannah sighed with happiness as she collapsed across Susan's bed.
After her mother's death, the two school terms under the cruel Carrows, the battle, and all the other recent horrors, she had been thrilled to accept Headmistress McGonagall's invitation to return and retake her last year…in the right way! It had only been a few weeks, but the return to a normal Hogwarts year…and all of its routines…felt so wonderfully comforting after the chaos.
Susan felt the same way. After all, she had lost her aunt, suffered under the Carrows, and fought in the battle, also. Therefore, she completely understood her friend's current contentment and smiled as she pushed Hannah over to make room for herself.
"Where's Ernie?" Hannah asked knowingly.
Susan blushed as she remembered how embarrassed, but so very pleased, she had been when their longtime friend had asked her to be his girlfriend on the night of the Welcoming Feast. Apparently, the uncertainty of the last year…and the memory of all they had lost...spurred him into action. She was grateful, too, because things were going very well for them. Plus, Ernie was a great kisser!
"Studying with Hermione and Luna in the library, I think. I can't believe he decided to take Arithmancy again," she replied to Hannah's question bemusedly. "After all, once was more than enough for me."
"That's not what I heard you tell him last night when you were snogging in the common room!" Hannah laughed.
"Hush it, you!" Susan blushed again before she picked up a pillow and smacked her friend. That just made Hannah laugh harder, however, as she grabbed another pillow to return the favor. Soon the Hufflepuffs were trading whack for whack and laughing like loons.
It was just so good to feel normal again!
