Bedtime Stories
"Please read us a story, Papa Newt!" the young twins pleaded in unison after their parents and visiting great-grandparents had tucked them into bed.
Newt looked at their mother for permission. Luna, however, just smiled in her dreamy way and levitated a book from their bookcase over into the older man's hands.
"It's still their favorite," she replied. "They like it even more than the ones that Rolf and I wrote for them."
Newt glanced down at the well-worn cover of the text and smiled proudly when he saw the title, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Then, as the other adults quietly exited the room, he conjured up a comfortable reading chair right between the boys' beds.
"Read about the Erumpent," Lorcan requested.
"I want to hear about the Lethifold," Lysander replied.
Newt simply smiled at their eagerness. After all, they reminded him so much of himself.
...
Some time later, after both requests...and many more...had been read and elaborated upon with exciting real life stories, the two boys yawned tiredly. Their great-grandfather gratefully accepted their sweet and sleepy goodnight kisses, and then slipped quietly out of the room himself as they reluctantly succumbed to their exhaustion.
