Oct 16th: Falling Asleep Together
Pairing: Hedwig & Crookshanks
Length: Triple Drabble
Familiar Duty
Hedwig perched on a high shelf in the Gryffindor common room. From her position, she was able to keep a close eye on her frequently-wayward human. For once, though, the lad was neither in trouble nor danger. In fact, he was enjoying a laugh with the bright-haired one while they played that silly game where the toys on the board bashed each other. The female, however, sat close by with a book…as usual.
They were all safe.
Suddenly, there was a small noise behind Hedwig, and her head swiveled almost all the way around, in the particular way of her species, to see the intruder.
Have you not yet realized that you cannot sneak up on me, Cat?
Crookshanks dropped a fat mouse at Hedwig's talons. It still wiggled a bit because he knew that Hedwig was no scavenger.
I wasn't tryin' to sneak, Bird. Huntin' was good down in the dungeons. I brought you some noms since you were on watch tonight. How's my girl doin'?
While the owl pounced on her dinner and swallowed it whole. Crookshanks gazed down at the young humans below. Ah, readin' again, I see, he answered his own question with a fond purr at the sight of his beloved pet before he returned his attention back to his companion. So all's well?
Hedwig nodded. Everything seems to be calm…for now.
How about a kip then? Crookshanks displayed his fangs with a wide yawn. After all, huntin' and guardin' is hard work!
Hedwig agreed and stretched out a wing in invitation. The cat purred again as he curled up next to his feathery friend and Hedwig allowed her vigilance to relax in order to enjoy the warm comfort of her companion. All was currently well...and they both deserved a nice nap.
