The Language of Flowers
During his pre-Hogwarts education, Neville learned the language of flowers from his grandmother. After all, such knowledge was required in a traditional pureblood education – especially as it dealt with proper courtship rituals.
Later, during his work as a Master Herbologist, Neville perfected the skill.
Nevertheless, despite his knowledge, the man's nerves were still on a razor-sharp edge as he paced up and down the rows of his private greenhouse and carefully considered the meaning of each and every bloom present. Only then, did he make the choices for the special bouquet that he was creating.
He had to have the perfect flowers for the perfect evening.
In Neville's opinion, roses to represent love were overrated. Therefore, his final selection included Red Chrysanthemums to symbolize his feelings, instead. He then added Morning Glories for affection, Heliotrope for devotion, Yarrow for everlasting love, Honeysuckle for the bonds of love, and finally – for the greenery - he decided to tie it all together with Ivy for fidelity and Fern for magic.
When he was finally satisfied with his creation, he placed it under a stasis charm to keep it fresh and wilt-free.
Then...still nervous, but with a lighter heart...he went to propose.
