The Way She Looks Tonight
Hermione had never been one to fuss over her appearance. After all, she had always been more interested in being recognized for her brains and accomplishments, rather than something as superficial as beauty. On the night of the Yule Ball, however, she decided to take extra care with her preparations in order to look her best - especially since it was such a special occasion.
Accordingly, she was extremely self-conscious as she descended the staircase to join her date...until she saw the looks of surprise on the faces of both her friends and enemies and heard their incredulous whispers about how unexpectedly attractive the Gryffindor Bookworm could be. Hermione found that she especially enjoyed Ron's open-mouthed astonishment and Harry's proud brotherly grin at the sight.
When Viktor saw her, though, he had a look of quiet delight in his eyes as he took her hand and brushed his lips gently across her knuckles in appreciation. Hermione knew then that all of the time, effort, and copious amounts of Sleekeazy hair potion had definitely been worth it for the others' reactions that night.
However, Hermione's heart skipped a beat when she finally realized Viktor had always looked at her that way.
