Prologue

Sirius looked back at Dahlia one last time as he flew off on Buckbeak, he hated leaving her but right now he had no choice. As they flew away from Hogwarts Sirius thought on where they could go until the thought hit him; Carlisle Cullen. Stopping in the mountains outside of Hogsmeade, Sirius quickly and quietly snuck into the Post Office and sent an owl to the vegetarian Cullen explaining everything, before he snuck back out of Hogsmeade and up to the mountains to Buckbeak before taking off again.

Several hours and many, many stops later, Sirius and Buckbeak arrived outside of the Cullen residence in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. As he was climbing off of Buckbeak Carlisle and his family rushed out of the front door only for Buckbeak to start squawking angrily.

"Back off. You have to bow to him as a sign of respect. If he bows back then it's okay." Sirius said quickly, as he tried to calm the enraged Hippogrifth. Knowing how the Magical World was Carlisle quickly did as he said, the rest of the coven following suit. Once Buckbeak had bowed Sirius stroked his neck.

"Good boy Buckbeak." Sirius praised, giving him a dead ferret out of his bag. "He's a Hippogrifth." Sirius explained to the shocked expressions, only for one vampire to start growling at him.

"Where is she!? Where is my mate!?" The vampire, Sirius recognised as Jasper, shouted.

"Jasper calm down." Storm said soothingly.

"Your mate? The only person I've hugged is.." Sirius trailed off as his eyes widened. "No! NO! No! She's only thirteen."

"Who?" Emmett asked confused.

"My Goddaughter Dahlia Emma Potter." Sirius explained. "She's had a hard enough life as it is. I promised her a home and the rat who betrayed us escaped before we could turn him in and clear my name. So now she's had to go back to her Aunt and Uncle despite things not being right there." Sirius shouted, pacing up and down the path running his hands through his hair.

"How do you know?" Esme asked concerned.

"No thirteen year old rapidly agrees to go live with someone whose practically a stranger. And I can't do anything and I hate it!"

Sirius raged.

"We will try to help you all that we can Sirius but I'm not sure how much sway we'll have. But in the meantime, you are welcome to stay with us for as long as you need. And Jasper you are not to interact with Dahlia yet as she's only thirteen and we must respect Sirius's wishes." Carlisle said gently but firmly.

"I wasn't gonna do anything Carlisle but she is my mate. If she's unhappy or worse bring abused there, and I could have done something.." Jasper said, slowly raising his voice as Major fought his control.

"I know this is difficult son, but we have no sway in regards to Dahlia. All we can do is wait." Carlisle said in a gentler tone. Jasper glared at them before taking off into the Forest. He needed to be alone to work out his anger.

"He'll be okay." Alice assured them, as they entered the house.

"I know how he feels. He feels powerless that he can't be there for her no matter how much I don't want her to date until she's forty... but I can't stop mates I know that. And I feel as powerless as him. She's my little girl. I love her as if she was my own daughter and I would do anything for her and I can do nothing." Sirius sighed, flopping down on to the sofa watching through the large windows as Buckbeak rummaged around the Forest asserting his territory.

'I'll be with you soon, Dahlia. I promise.' Sirius thought, as he was led upstairs so he can wash off the grime from Azkaban.
