The Sunrise Surf Shop

The Surfer and the Superstar

"Holy shit, you really weren't kidding about your dad, Will" Piper raised her eyebrows.

"Why are you surprised? Your dad's Tristan McLean," argued Will.

"Yeah, but... that's my dad. I know him as a person. This is your dad. And he's literally like the biggest pop musician alive, countered Piper, elbowing Will slowly.

Will huffed and rubbed his ribs, while Mike on his other side cleared his throat. "All I know is that that was the last time I paid for rounds when we went out for drinks. Spoiled rich kids."

"I literally work at the same surf shop as you do and I don't do it for fun," pointed Piper out. "I am financially independent from my father, that's the point of that!"

"That's your own dumbassery, girl, my point still stands," Mike snorted softly.

"Can you like... shut up? All three of you? You're ruining the moment."

"Sorry, Percy," chorused all three of his friends.

"No, wait, I take that back," tagged Will on with a frown. "What moment? You're not having a moment with my father, Percy. Stop having a moment that involves staring at my father."

Percy shrugged unapologetically and kept staring at Apollo from afar. This was Apollo. The Apollo. Truly one of the greatest musicians of all time – not just the greatest pop musician alive, but seriously one of the all time greats what would be talked about in a century or more. Not to mention, damn, he was fine. Will was cute, pretty even, with the long, blonde hair, the freckles, the sunshine smile. Apollo had all that, plus twenty years and sharper edges and a certain... dirtiness to his smirks. Like he was trying to charm your pants off at any given moment. Case in point, right now, as he turned toward them to smirk directly at Percy. Oh boy. Swallowing hard, Percy shifted a little, because he felt as though his pants did want to come off immediately.

"Can't," Percy's voice dropped to a whisper. "He's too hot."

"I hate you and I regret bringing him here to meet you guys," Will glared viciously at him.

"I set you up with your fiance, you owe me one," countered Percy.

"But not my father! Sure, you introduced me to Jake because he worked with your friend Leo, but this is just... no. No, my fiance does not equate to you shagging up my father."

Percy turned to grin very aloof at Will. The two had been friends for years now, ever since Will had moved to Kaua'i. He was a paramedic and with Percy owning a surf-shop, they had frequent run ins – tourists with heat-strokes, dumb injuries or nearly drowning. They became quick friends and Will consequently also befriended Percy's staff-slash-friends, Mike and Piper. And sure, Will had mentioned that his father was Apollo before, but somehow the other three hadn't entirely... bought that. Not that they thought Will had lied, but... it just sounded so surreal?

"He's so much hotter in person," whispered Percy beneath his breath.

"I hate you. If you sleep with my father, I will hate you forever," warned Will with a deadpan.

"Kay, but like, just how serious are you with that threat?" Percy turned to grin at him.

"Why are you like this, Percy?" Piper heaved a sigh, shaking her head.

"Charming and lovable?" Percy blinked innocently.

"Horny on main," muttered Mike amused.

"That's... Are you slutshaming me, Michael?" Percy gasped and grasped his heart.

"Absolutely not. You do you, boo," Mike chuckled a little. "You're single, hot, young, go and get it. But don't get us in trouble with it, okay? This... smells like trouble."

Percy grinned and shrugged. He spent a lot of time shirtless, covered in sweat and oil outside and he did look fine. So he attracted a lot of attention and he enjoyed engaging in it. He'd always had a thing for older guys and also for blondes. His first boyfriend, Luke, had been seven years older than him. Older guys were more experienced and also just... hotter. Now, Percy was twenty-five and running his own shop in Kaua'i, being an established, serious adult. Who still liked older guys.

"Okay, okay. I will not flirt with your dad, I promise," Percy sighed with a pout.

"I'll believe it when I see it," Will raised one doubtful eyebrow.

"Sonny boy! I found a board that speaks to me. Which one's the super talented teacher you said I should get? Tell me it's the pretty one with the tattoo on his pecs."

Pointlessly, Percy turned to look at his friends. Piper didn't have any tattoos and Mike only had one up his arm to his shoulder. Percy's all the while reached down his collar-bone and covered his left chest too. It was a beautiful, traditionally made Hawaiian tattoo, symbolizing the sea. He'd gotten it when he turned eighteen and had moved out here to connect to his father's roots. He'd been a summer fling for her mom, who had returned to New York pregnant and alone. Percy was twelve when he reached out to his biological father and started visiting Kaua'i every summer, learning how to surf from his dad and half-siblings. He'd moved here to be closer to them and because it felt like home. Not even necessarily for the sake of his family here, but because of the ocean. Being in the water felt like home, the ocean felt like home and this, here, he was finally one with it. With a bit of help from his dad, Percy managed to open his own surf-shop, after getting his teaching license. He didn't take his dad's charity though, he had accepted Poseidon as a partner and thus, Poseidon got a cut of the profits. The two still weren't the coziest, but they got along.

"Apollo thinks I'm pretty," whispered Percy with a triumphant smile.

"Apollo's bisexual and also not blind," countered Mike dryly. "You're pretty. You know that. I know that and I'm asexual, not the least bit attracted to you, but also, again, not blind."

"You live to wound me," Percy pouted a little.

"I just changed my mind, father. I think you should take classes from Piper," Will groaned.

"Also very pretty," noted Apollo with a shrug. "I don't mind."

"I don't know why I invited you to come here," Will tilted his head back with a sigh.

"Because your sister Kayla begged you to take me off her hands because I was driving her up the wall. I'm just trying to be a good dad to all of my children," Apollo shrugged unapologetically.

"How many siblings do you have?" Piper's voice was a curious whisper.

"TBA," replied Will with a deadpan.

"That's not an answer," Piper's voice rose just a little.

"I tell you, the eighties and nineties were wild and I don't remember about 72% of them so Will's pretty right with that assessment," Apollo laughed, throwing his head back. "There were very many adoring fans and wild nights in tour busses and hotels."

"That feels like one of those things famous people shouldn't just casually say," noted Mike.

"I own up to my mistakes," Apollo shrugged, before lifting a hand. "And Will and his sibs are not the mistake here. The mistake was being shit-faced drunk and on other... substances and not being around. I sobered up. I have been paying all the alimony of all the kids that are actually, you know, mine. And I'm trying to be involved in their lives. Like right now. Trying really hard."

There was something exasperated and fond in Will's gaze as he looked at his dad. Percy grinned a little. He could relate to that. That was how he felt about his own father, who had had irresponsible intercourse with his mom and then been an awkward mess when he actually tried being a dad.

"You know what would constitute trying really hard?" Will raised his eyebrows. "Not hitting on our friends. The reason Kayla sent you off was because you were trying to flirt up her friend."

"It's not my fault you have attractive friends!" Apollo raised his hands. "We have established that I am weak-minded and give in easily, as proven by your existence."

Will covered his face with his hand and shook his head. "Two weeks. And then I'm calling Austin."

Apollo huffed with a pout and Percy concluded that Austin was another half-sibling of Will's. The pout was very cute on Apollo. Percy stepped forward with a charming smile.

"So, those two weeks, you wanna learn how to surf?" Percy walked over toward the boards. "Show me which one you like. I'll tell you if it's even suited for a beginner like you."

Will had very vocally opposed to Percy being horny for his dad and to Apollo flirting back. He was, however, also aware that both were consenting adults who could make their own mistakes. For which both were very well-known. Both had a track-record of getting their hearts broken and the last thing Will wanted was for his best friend and his dad to break each other's hearts. The problem was that with every passing day, Will could see Percy and Apollo growing closer.

In an attempt to monitor not necessarily them, but definitely Apollo, he stuck around. Watching. Apollo seemed to have a lot of fun with the surfing and him and Percy actually bonded. They laughed a lot. There were lingering touches, flirtatious smiles.

"They look good together," noted Piper with a crooked grin.

"Shut up," countered Will unimpressed.

"Don't boo me, I'm right and you know it," Piper chuckled. "You know the internet agree."

They did. Pictures of Apollo surfing were just all over the internet and newspapers. Everyone speculated why he was there. Some concluded rightly that Will was his son – golden-blonde hair, blue eyes, Will looked a lot like his father. Others speculated on flings. Many names – or rather pictures – were thrown around. And a lot of them suggested Percy.

"In my experience," started Piper slowly. "Is it impossible to dictate who your parents are seeing. You'll just alienate them. Hurt them with your disapproval. And it's not like Percy doesn't know the stories about your dad. He's not going to get his heart broken."

Will heaved a sigh, leaning heavily onto the table. Mike finally arrived with their hot dogs. Near the water, Percy and Apollo were laughing with each other. Objectively, they did make a good couple. The first week of Apollo's stay was over. It had gone without a hitch. He hadn't slept around with anyone so far. Which was what had Will thoughtful. Usually, at this point, Will would have found at least two different people in Apollo's hotel room. Instead, all of his dad's attention seemed to go to Percy. Which indicated he might have actual interest in Percy. Which made this more complicated.

"You... think I should... give them my blessing?" Will furrowed his brows.

"They seem really into each other and what's the worst that can happen? They hook up, have fun with each other, you won't have to hear the details," Mike shrugged.

Will slowly turned to give Mike a deadpan look. "Two different worst case scenarios. One, they break each other's hearts and I'm stuck in the middle, picking up all of the pieces. The other, they are each other's one true love and Percy Jackson ends up my stepfather."

"...Okay, that last one, I hadn't considered that," Piper blinked slowly and winced. "Yeah, okay, I might have a problem if Percy started hooking up with my dad..."

Will huffed and shook his head, though a little fondly so. He felt out of his mind here, but he was actually considering giving them his blessing. They did seem to hit it off, mutually so.

Apollo loved his kids. He had regrets about the years he had missed out on, he had regrets that he didn't have a married partner he was raising his kids with. But he loved his kids. Will was impressive, he was a paramedic. Had worked hard for this. He was engaged to a kind mechanic who seemed to be worshiping the ground Will was walking on, which Apollo found himself slightly envious of. He'd never had that kind of love before in his own life, which was why he was chasing the high of one fling after the other, never finding love.

"One date," stated Will seriously on day eight during breakfast. "I will allow you and Percy one date. If it does not go absolutely perfect, you call it off before anyone can get hurt."

Apollo raised his eyebrows in surprise. Usually, his twenty-plus years old kids minded when Apollo flirted with their friends. Honestly, for the most part, he flirted because it was part of his nature, it didn't always have to lead to anything. Sometimes, he flirted to specifically annoy his children.

"What made you change your mind?" Apollo grinned and leaned back.

"The way you look at him," Will sighed in defeat. "You don't look at him with lust, you look at him like he... like he's your muse, like he inspires you. I've noticed that you've been riding far more music in the past few days now. Kayla said you've been in kind of a slump, creatively. That that's why you're on this dad tour here, as a distraction, maybe to find inspiration somewhere. Clearly, something here inspired you. The sea? The nature? The people? Or the man you've been staring heart-eyed at for a week now? My guess is the latter. And I will not be responsible for ruining the next hit album of the great Apollo by denying you your muse."

Apollo blinked slowly, staring at his son in surprise. Huh. That was a very good deduction. It put a slight blush on Apollo's cheeks as it was put this bluntly. Yes. Percy Jackson had been very inspiring. His abs, his ass, his tattoo, his smiles, his eyes, his life-story, his kindness. Everything.

Percy couldn't really believe that this was actually happening. Not on the first date. Not on the third date either. Apollo, the Apollo, was taking him out to the fanciest restaurants, helicopter flights around the island, taking a boat to the other islands. But the best were the quiet moments, when it was just the two of them and Apollo would play the guitar and sing softly to him. Beautiful songs. At first, Percy's favorites, but lately, songs that Percy had never heard before. New ones, that Apollo was currently working on. With every song, Percy felt himself falling more in love. Not because they were a reminder that Apollo was a billionaire superstar, but because these songs were raw, came directly from Apollo's heart. They made Percy feel so many things.

"I love... uh, spending time with you," offered Apollo as they laid together at the beach.

They were just outside the Sunrise Surf Shop, Percy had just closed shop, finding his... boyfriend... waiting in front of it to pick him up. Instead, the two had started kissing and then sat down, because the sun was setting and it was both their favorite sight. The sun disappearing into the sun. Percy smiled as he tilted his head, leaning it against Apollo's biceps.

"I love spending time with you too," whispered Percy, nuzzling into him.

Author's note: I do love Apercy a lot. And celebrity!Apollo is always good, isn't he. But I wanted some fun with Will being annoyed by Percy hitting on his dad. Should play with that more often ;D
