Summary: The VKs' first Halloween has arrived and their friends are excited to show them exactly how the day should be. But with the Core Four, you can guarantee that the holiday isn't quite going to go as planned...well, at least for the AKs.

I guess this could count as the first story in my series of holiday one-shots. Each of these are always side stories to series or stories that I'm writing. This one is for my With a Twist series. If you don't know what that is, it's a series I'm working on where I take certain scenes in Descendants and change them a bit.

Anyways, now that that's all clear I just want to say I hope you enjoy the story!

Maleficent Bertha - or Mal - walked into the Auradon Prep ballroom and gasped. Now, you may be asking yourself why a high school would have a ballroom? But Auradon Prep wasn't just any high school.

It was a high school for the sons and daughters of famous Disney heroes. Seven months ago, Mal and her friends had been sent to Auradon as part of a program started by Prince Ben - future king and Belle and Beast's son. Mal's mother, Maleficent, had told her to steal Fairy Godmother's wand and bring down the barrier to set the villains free, but along the way Mal fell in love with Ben. At his Coronation, Audrey had accidentally brought down the barrier and Maleficent escaped, but Mal managed to stop her.

Their troubles weren't over, however, because as Cotillion approached Mal started to lose who she really was more and more. Finally, a fight with Ben was the last straw and she ran back to the Isle. Ben, Evie, Carlos, and Jay went after her, but Ben was kidnapped by Uma and her pirate crew. The Core Four eventually got Ben back and Mal returned to Auradon, but at Cotillion Uma put Ben under a love spell and tried to get the barrier down. Mal managed to stop her though, and break the spell on Ben with True Love's Kiss.

Now, she and her friends had lived peaceful and happy lives in Auradon but still weren't quite used to the strange customs yet. This was why Mal was so shocked to enter a room decorated with carved pumpkins, orange and black decorations, and candles.

"What's going on?" she asked the four other people in the room in confusion. These people were Jane - daughter of Fairy Godmother, Lonnie - daughter of Mulan, Doug - son of Dopey, and Prince Ben himself.

"Halloween of course!" Lonnie exclaimed happily. It was her favorite holiday.

Mal frowned.

"And that is..."

The others stared at her in shock, but before they could answer Evie, Carlos, and Jay walked up to them.

"Hey, Mal. What's-" Evie started, but was interrupted by Carlos.

"What's going on here?" he asked suspiciously, staring at the decorations as though they were a trap. Even after months of being off the Isle, some things - such as the VKs suspicious of new things - hadn't changed.

"We're decorating for Halloween. It's a holiday where you dress up as something and get candy. It's usually considered a scary holiday, and we always throw a party at school. Want to help us set up?"

The Core Four looked at each other for a moment before reaching a silent agreement and moving forward.

"So, tell us more about this 'Halloween,' " Mal said, the new words feeling a bit strange.

"Like how we get the candy," Jay added, shooting Carlos a grin. The two boys loved and would do anything for candy.

"We do something called Trick-or-Treat. Or we used to. It's mostly younger kids that do it, but Lonnie has to go every year because of her little sister," Jane explained.

"And what's Trick-or-Treat?"

"You go up to houses and knock on the door. Someone opens and gives you candy. It's pretty simple, actually," Doug shrugged.

"Is the Trick thing an actual option?" Mal asked, raising an eyebrow. Ben didn't answer, sighing instead, and even though she knew exactly what that meant, Mal still grinned.

"I'll take that as a yes," she said, smirking widely, as she hung up another orange streamer.

Ben exchanged nervous looks with his friends, wondering what exactly Mal was planning.

Mal and Evie sat in their room, putting together their outfits for the night. They had agreed to dress up like their parents, and it was actually pretty easy.

Mal picked out a black and purple robe that she would wear over a long black dress. She turned a headband into a horn headpiece and a stick into a scepter like her mother's. As for Evie, she was going to wear a black cape and long purple dress. She pulled her long, blue hair into a bun and added the large, stiff, white collar. Mal turned one of her golden tiaras into a crown.

The two had also helped Carlos and Jay recreate their parents' outfits. Jay wore the classic robe and Mal also helped him make a scepter, but he let his hair down and wore a black, red, and gold crown over it instead of the turban. Carlos was a bit tricky since he was a boy while his mother was a woman, but Evie and Mal managed to make a white fur coat of his much bigger (with magic, of course) and gave him black pants and a black suit with a white collared shirt under it. He wore his usual red leather gloves and they gave him a fake cigarette.

"There," Mal said, handing Carlos the "cigarette," which he pretended to smoke. Real smoke came out of it, and he gave Mal an impressed look.

"You've been practicing," he said.

She smiled proudly and nodded. The purple-haired Fae was really getting the hang of magic, she'd started using the spellbook less and less.

"This reminds me a bit of the magic mirror we saw when we were getting your mother's scepter," Evie said. "You know, the one that made us turn old?"

Jay nodded.

"I remember. We all looked a lot like our parents. We kind of do now, but we're hot," he added, smirking.

Mal chuckled and asked, "Now, are we all clear on the plan?"

Since all of them looked a lot like their parents, with the right effects they could definitely fool everyone.

But that wasn't the only trick they had up their sleeves.

The night of the party came faster than anyone could have guessed. The others all arrived in their costumes and were having fun when Ben expressed his nervousness that the VKs weren't there yet.

"Do you think something happened to them?" he asked. "Like their parents? Maybe Maleficent found a way to free them?"

"Don't worry, Ben," Jane said, chuckling. He had been very worried about Mal since the whole mess with Uma, and while they understood he was worried, it was a bit amusing to watch.

"Oh, but he should worry," a booming voice said. All the lights were extinguished, and four swirls of flame appeared in front of them. The flames were black, blue, white, and red. The shadows made it hard to see the people that arose from them, but they were unmistakable.

"Maleficent!" Lonnie gasped. "The Evil Queen!"

"What are we, chopped liver?" another silhouette said in a deep offended voice.

"Jafar," Doug breathed. "And Cruella."

Jane squeaked in fear.

'Maleficent' cackled and said, "That's right, and we've hidden those precious traitors where you'll never find them!"

"Where are they?" Ben demanded angrily. "Where did you put Mal?"

"In this room," 'Maleficent' said in a different voice. All the lights were turned on and the AKs stared at Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos, who were all roaring with laughter.

"Your faces were priceless," Jay said, struggling to catch his breath. Mal was breathless and leaning on Evie for support, so all she could do was nod. Eventually, when they realized it was a prank, everyone else started laughing too (but not before Ben hugged Mal in relief, and Lonnie punched Jay in the arm).

"Did you guys ever realize how much headwear out parents had?" Evie mused, later that night. "I'm glad we were able to get rid of some of it."

Jay chuckled, then glanced at the dance floor. He saw Lonnie and she turned and met his eye. They exchanged a quick smile before Evie interrupted.

"Go talk to her!" she said, rolling her eyes a bit. Jay's crush on Lonnie was the most obvious thing in the world, and it was clear she felt the same. But they were both too chicken to admit it, so their friends decided to take it into their own hands.

"You sure?" Jay said, a bit nervously. Very out of character for him, but maybe it was different with a girl he actually liked. The only response he got was Mal shoving him towards her.

Jay slowly walked up to Lonnie, as though breathing the same air as her scared him. Still, he tried (and failed) to play it cool.

"So, um, what else happens at this party?" he asked her. Really? Was that all you could come up with? Up your game, Jay! he thought.

Lonnie didn't seem to notice though, and smiled.

"We have a huge cake and share ghost stories. Oh, and dancing," she pointed to the few people already on the dancefloor, but more were quickly joining them.

Suddenly, Jay had an idea.

"Well, in that case, will you dance with me?" he asked with a grin, gaining some of his flair back.

Lonnie smiled back and rolled her eyes a bit before nodding, then grabbed his hand and dragged him onto the floor.

Mal, Evie, and Carlos watched with satisfaction.

"He finally did something," Mal said, nodding with approval.

"Well, since everyone else is dancing..." Evie turned to Carlos, who shook his head.

"Come on! Please! It'll be fun!" Evie gave him her puppy-dog eyes, and Carlos caved. He could never resist those.

"Fine," he said, allowing Evie to drag him onto the dance floor.

Mal grinned as she watched them. They had more plans for fun things this night, but for now it was nice to see her friends dance with the people they liked. It was incredibly obvious to Mal that Carlos and Evie had huge crushes on each other but probably wouldn't admit it for a long time.

Well, after being in denial for two years it would be difficult for anyone to admit something like this, she thought with a chuckle. Gods, her friends were hopeless.

"Well," a voice said suddenly behind her. "If everyone else is dancing, I guess we should too."

Mal didn't even jump, just chuckled and turned around to face her boyfriend.

"Eh, not like I have anything better to do," she said casually, although her smile betrayed her emotions and she pulled him onto the floor.

"Do you think he'll make a move?" Evie asked, glancing over at Jay before turning back to Carlos.

"Hopefully soon, sometimes it's hard to believe how oblivious some people can be," Carlos chuckled, and Evie grinned.

"Yeah," she said, looking back at her oldest friend. By now he was nearly as tall as her, and probably would be if she wasn't wearing heels. She hadn't realized how much he'd grown since Auradon. Not just in height, but also confidence-wise. It was nice to see.

Little did she know Carlos was thinking the exact same thing about her. She'd grown so much out of the mold her mother set for her, and was truly her own person. Yes she still liked makeup and clothes and boys, but that was just Evie - not her mom.

He glanced behind her and smiled widely.

"Look," he nodded towards the floor, where Lonnie gave Jay a quick kiss, leaving the other teenager looking a bit dazed.

"He finally did it," Evie grinned, looking across the floor at Mal, who gave them a victorious smile.

Next, it was time for scary stories - much to Mal's excitement. But she managed to hide her eagerness and wait patiently for her turn.

(I'm not going to tell Mal's story, mainly because I can't write horror stories, so let's just say it's some sort of ghost story.)

But in the middle of her story, the lights started flickering for a moment before the room went dark. Then, a ghostly white woman appeared in front of them and reached a hand out, beckoning them forward.

All the AKs screamed, and Mal yelled in 'fear,' "She found us! Hide!"

If anyone had been paying attention, they would have noticed that Carlos was missing. They would have noticed the way the woman flickered for a moment as they ran before becoming a solid image again.

Mal silently cursed the fact that they didn't have much time to prepare.

But the AKs all bought it, and huddled in fear. The woman suddenly opened her mouth, but instead of moaning or saying something creepy like a normal ghost-

"Gotcha," she said in a teenage boy's voice. She flickered out of existence, and Carlos stepped out from where he was hiding, smirking.

Mal laughed and high-fived him.

"We did it!" she said cheerfully.

Evie and Jay glared at them.

"You didn't tell us about this," Evie said accusingly. Mal shrugged, grinning.

"Sorry, E, but it was about time you were pranked too," she smirked.

That night, Mal and Evie lay in their dorm room beds, ready to sleep (and also recovering from the punch that Jay and Mal may or may not have spiked).

"Evie?" Mal said quietly. Her friend answered with a simple, "Hmm?"

Mal grinned widely as she said, "I can't wait for next Halloween."

Please review and tell me what you thought about this story and the couples. It was fun to write and I really hope someone liked it. I know it's not a horror story or something, but while I could write one if I tried, it probably wouldn't be as good and I wouldn't enjoy writing it as much.

Still, I hope you enjoyed!

Happy Halloween!
