Ch. 17 Date Plan

Diego walked through the streets of Gateway, accompanied by one Jaune Arc. He really didn't know what to think of Jaune. Other than having helped in retaking The Outback, he hasn't had many interactions with the man. Currently he was helping Jaune planning his date with Misty, his ex. Diego wasn't resentful of Jaune. He had come to accept that Misty didn't want to live a life with someone involved in a gang, then again dating a merc is somewhat hypocritical but hey, what can he do?

"So, Jaune. Have any idea what kind of date you want to do?" Diego asked

"...I guess anything would do" Jaune shrugged

Diego facepalmed "Look, I don't want to be mean, but I think Misty wouldn't just accept 'anything' "

"Ok, ok...maybe a dinner date?"

"That's a good first step. Do you know what kind of place you want to go?"

"No"

"Ok...you know, this is a lot more difficult than what it should"

Jaune sighed "Ok, maybe it is. But what am I supposed to do?"

"Plan a date"

"I hate you"

"Suck it up and start planning, when is this date exactly?"

"Tonight…"

Diego stared wide-eyed at Jaune, he felt his forehead scrunch up and sighed into his palm "You. Are. Hopeless"

After a bit of walking the two passed by a large building, Diego looked at it and sighed. However he noticed Jaune had stopped and decided to look at it. Walking back Diego nudged his shoulder.

"Yo...you good?"

"Huh, oh yeah. Just wondering if this place could work?"

Diego looked at it and scoffed "Yeah, no. First off this place is one of, if not, the most expensive restaurant in Vale. not only that but reservation is planned 6 months in advance, like hell you'll be able to get a spot he-"

"Jaune, is that you"

Diego turned his head and saw a man exit the building. Immediately he noticed that he was the definition of rich, how he and Jaune knew each other was beyond him.

"Zac, hey. How's it going?"

"Not bad. Who's this?"

Diego extended his hand "Diego, Diego Browne"

"Nice to meet you. The names Zac Snowden, owner of this establishment-"

"Owner?" Jaune cut him off

"Yes, Jaune. Why'd you ask?"

The boy looked a bit sheepish at the older man "you wouldn't mind having an open table for tonight, would you?"

The man looked at him "May I ask why?"

"Jaune is going on a date tonight. Saw the establishment and was like 'hmm, sure would be nice to bring my date here' "

He saw the older man's face lit up "A date? Hmm, well I could give you a spot, but there is a fee"

Diego saw Jaune walk up to the man and whisper something in his ear. The man blushed and cleared his throat "err- what time works for you?"

"7"

"I think we can manage that"

"Awesome, see ya Zac"

The duo walked away from the man. Facing Jaune his dingo ears flickered at attention. "If I may ask, what did you tell him?"

"Secret"

"What kind of secret"

"The embarrassing kind"

"Ahh, ok. Anyway you should probably tell Misty about the dress code for the evening"

Jaune nodded and pulled out his...scroll? Diego didn't really know what to call it. After a bit of typing he saw the message was sent and Jaune smiled. There was a ding and he smiled at the response. "That settles that"

"Yep. Now, what are you going to be wearing tonight?"

"Hmm...I don't know?"

"Well then we better get to shopping"

Jaune exited the store, his head drooped low. His company had ditched him due to the fact that he got a call from his boss. The man needed help and Diego wouldn't give a reason as to why so he just up and ditched him. Walking through the area, he had come to learn that the small area he was in was basically a massive shopping strip.

"Great, now who am I going to find to help me"

"Well, well, well, who do we have here"

Jaune sighed, turning around he saw a brown hair and a pair of sunglasses "Hey mocha. Shouldn't you be giving out tickets?"

She laughed and walked towards him "nah, I got a day off today. Originally I was supposed to help my sis find a dress for her coming dance but she's out of town. And since I had already booked this day I thought 'well might as well find something for myself'. Turns out lady luck has decided to have me find you here huh?"

"Yep"

Jaune turned around and tried to walk away but the clacking of heels reassured him that Mocha was staying. "D'aww, why the long face? Not happy to see me?"

"Not that"

"Then what is it?"

Jaune didn't respond. Mocha, however, wasn't ready to give up just yet. "Come on. I got no one else to talk to today, so might as well spend some time with you. Now, what's eating you up?"

"Uhh, fine. I've got a date tonight and have nothing to wear. Happy?"

Her eyes lit up "what kind of date?"

"What's it matter to you?"

"well...I got to know exactly how I can help you out"

"With what?"

"With what you're wearing. Gods, try and stay with the program. First, what kind of establishment are you going to?"

" a restaurant called Soumrak"

Jaune noticed how her eyes widened and her jaw dropped "Y-you're joking?"

Jaune shook his head, he noticed how she looked at him over "h-how, that place is so hard to get a spot, a-and the price as well?"

"I know the owner"

She stood staring at him, Jaune sighed "look, are you going to help me or are just going to stare?"

She stood up straight, grabbed his arm, and smiled wickedly "I may not be as fashion savvy as my sister, but I can still make things look good. Now come on, we got some stores to hit"

With that, Jaune was yanked by the brunette and the two sped off into the next stores

Mocha hummed to herself, she eyed Jaune and the dark suite he was wearing. Something wasn't right about it...ah-hah, now she knew.

"Mind if we swapped that black tie for this golden one?"

"Sure, I don't mind"

Mocha walked over to Jaune and tied the tie for him. She blushed while she did it, to think that the kid didn't even know how to tie a tie. She didn't mind it really, after all she was helping him choose what to wear for his date. Standing back, she looked him over and smiled.

"Yup, perfect"

"Really? Didn't think a tie would be the thing that was missing"

"Well, that's just how things are. Now go change so we can purchase it"

As he disappeared into the changing room she couldn't help but think about him. He was, by definition, her type. Tall, blonde, handsome; also kind, charismatic, but a bit of a goof. During the past 3 hours she was able to get to know him better, it was obvious he held Misty in high regard. The way he talked about her made Mocha wish she was in her place.

But, he's with her and there really wasn't anything she could do. Mocha eyed Jaune and saw him exit the changing room. Standing up she walked over to the younger boy.

"Got what you wanted?"

"Yep"

The two waited in line and paid for the clothing. Exiting the store they walked together for a bit. Jaune talked animatley to Mocha about his friends, specifically Richter.

"So this Richter fellow, he studied in Atlas?"

"Yup"

"And what does he do exactly?"

"He's currently trying to start up a business. He also does technology stuff and robotics"

"What kind of robotics?"

"He helped me made a prosthetic arm"

Mocha's eyes widened "No way! Really?"

Jaune looked at her and she blushed, she pushed her index fingers against each other "I like robots and stuff"

He chuckled "I can tell...want me to give you his number"

Her eyes lit up "Um, that would be greatly appreciated"

Jaune chuckled and pulled out his...scroll? Mocha didn't know what it was but she felt a ping in her scroll. How did he...oh right, when they met up at night that one time.

"Anyways, I should get going. Don't want to hold Misty up for long. Thanks for everything Mocha"

She was about to say the same thing but froze when Jaune hugged her. It was awkward at first and she simply hugged him back. When they separated she saw Jaune walk away, his legs didn't bend and he trembled in doing so. She chuckled to herself, opening her scroll she opened the message from the blonde goof.

Reading it she noticed that Jaune also left directions to his store. She might visit it someday.

Jaune adjusted his tie and looked at himself in the mirror. He smiled and did a small pose in front of it. Chuckling to himself he had a solemn look on his face. Jaune wondered what his friends would say to him. What sagely advice Victor would give him, how Jackie would poke fun at him but still congratulate him, how V would simply nod and smile. He missed those times; looking over himself once more he nodded in reassurance.

Jaune knew this was the first step towards him leaving the life of an edgerunner, after this he could maybe live a somewhat normal life. Walking out of his room he noticed Misty was already waiting in the living room. He froze and felt his jaw drop.

"Well, aren't you handsome. How do I look"

Jaune couldn't put into words what he saw, she wore a dark navy blue dress that clinged to her figure. A fur scarf that accentuated her tail and made her even more beautiful. Her hair was done up and cascaded down her back. "Uhhh…"

Misty giggled into her palm and simply walked up to Jaune, she wrapped her scarf around his neck and looked at him coyly. "I'm so beautiful I left you speechless?"

Jaune nodded dumbly. Just as he had rebooted himself, Misty leaned in and planted a soft kiss.

"Well then, shall we go?" she asked, a deep allure added to her voice

"Y-yeah, let's get going"

Exiting the room the two made their way to their car. Thinking back on it, Jaune was glad he asked for the luxury SUV from Zac. As Misty buckled in she looked at Jaune.

"So? Where are you going to take me out?"

"It's a surprise"

MIsty glanced at him and smiled "Hmm, well guess I'll have to wait and see"

As Jaune drove the car out, he made way for their destination.
