This night
You're mine
It's only you and I
I'll tell you
To forget yesterday
This night we are together
("This Night," Billy Joel)
Chapter 25: A Minor Setback
Ring. Ring. Ring.
I groaned, opening one eye to try to make out the time. Once my vision focused, I realized it was a little after eight in the morning. On a Saturday, my sleep-filled brain reminded me. This was my one day to sleep in.
Whoever was calling was just going to have to wait, I thought as I snuggled closer to my husband.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Are you going to answer that?" he asked me, almost groaning.
"No," I replied, almost burying my face in his neck as I wrapped my arm around him. "They can just call back later."
The phone stopped ringing and silence filled the room again. I sighed, letting myself get pulled back toward sleep for hopefully another hour, if I was lucky.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
We both groaned as Robin rubbed my back. I lifted my head as he reached for the phone, saying: "I'm sorry, sweetheart, but I think we need to get that."
He picked up, pressing the phone to his ear. "Hello?"
I watched as his eyes met mine again and he smiled. "I take it the date went well then, Charming?"
"Let me listen," I said, trying to turn the phone so I could share it with him. "Charming? It's Regina. What happened?"
He chuckled. "Hi, Regina. And it went really well. We sat and talked for hours. Granny had to ask us to leave because the dinner rush was coming in."
"That's a good start," I replied, feeling giddy.
"We're having dinner tomorrow night," he then said.
I sat up, pulling the phone away from Robin as I gasped. Joy and hope filled me. "That's great!"
Robin sat up as well, letting me lean against him as Charming asked: "So what do I do now?"
"Well, what would you consider the most romantic place in Storybrooke?" I asked him.
"Umm, I don't know," he admitted. "What should I do? I don't think I can just take her to Granny's."
That was absolutely true but it did give me an idea. "Maybe you should ask Granny or Ruby for a suggestion."
"What?" he asked, sounding confused.
"If anyone is going to know the other options, it's going to be them," I told them. "Granny will want to keep up with the competition and Ruby probably has been on a few dates herself."
He was silent for a few moments before sighing. "You're right. I just feel so awkward talking around them because I know who they really are and they don't. And because Red as Ruby constantly flirts around me and I know she would feel bad if she knew who we really were."
"I know," I replied, thinking of my past interactions with Ruby. "She's openly flirted with Robin too. But she's probably our best bet right now."
"You're probably right," he admitted with a sigh. "I'll pop over to Granny's for lunch then, see if she's working. Thanks, Regina."
I wished him luck before we ended the call. Robin took the phone from me and hung it up. "So, everything is progressing."
"Yes," I replied. "And it seems to be progressing well. We just have to see how they get through their second date."
He nodded before looking around. "So, I guess we should just start our day?"
I sighed, knowing it was a good idea. But I was reluctant to get out of bed and it didn't seem the children were up yet. So I scooted closer to him. "How about we just snuggle instead?"
"Snuggling sounds good," he replied with a smile. He laid us back down, holding me close as I curled around his body. I rested my head on his chest, sighing contently.
Robin played with my hair as we enjoyed the peace and quiet. After a few moments, he asked: "So, should I plan our second date?"
I chuckled. "We're married, Robin. We don't have to count our dates. We just have date nights."
"Date nights," he mused. "I like the sound of that."
"And I think I should plan the next one," I continued, my mind starting to go into planning mode.
He frowned. "Why? Was something wrong with the last one?"
"Oh no," I assured him. "I enjoyed it a lot. I just don't think it's fair to expect you to plan all our date nights. We should take turns."
"That does sound fair," he replied. "Alright, you plan the next one and then I'll plan the one after that."
With that settled, we laid there together until a soft pop sound filled the room and something weighted down the blanket. I raised my head to find Rachel sitting there, her arms outstretched toward me. "Mama!"
"Good morning, sweetheart," I cooed, leaning over and gathering her into my arms. I kissed her cheek. "I hope you had a good night."
She laughed before crawling over to her father. He kissed her cheek as well. "Good morning! Were you missing us?"
"Mama!" she declared, though she patted his chest before letting out a laugh as if she had just told a joke. I was starting to think she was and that she probably was closer to saying "Papa" then we thought. She just enjoyed Robin's face whenever she called him Mama.
He sighed, rubbing her back. "I'll take that as a yes."
I snuggled against him as I looked up at Rachel. "Do you want to snuggle with Mama and Papa?"
"Mama!" she replied, falling over until she was lying between us. We curled around her and snuggled with her.
"We need to plan your first birthday," I told her. "We're going to have a big party and celebrate!"
Robin rubbed her stomach. "I can't believe you're going to be a year old already. Time is flying by so fast."
"I know," I said. "But in some cases, not fast enough."
"As much as I want our friends back, I don't think I want to lose any time with our children," Robin replied, letting Rachel grab onto his finger. "They are only young once. I don't want their childhoods to just pass us by."
I softened, knowing he was right. Before we knew it, they would be adults and off to live their own lives. So we needed to cherish all these moments while we could and I nodded. "You're right."
"Now, what should we do for Rachel's birthday?" he asked, kissing her forehead. She laughed, reaching out to grab his nose.
I laughed as well before saying: "I was thinking we could have a picnic in the yard. Invite a few people over and just have some fun in the spring weather."
"That sounds perfect," he said, his voice slightly nasally as Rachel continued to hold onto his nose. "I'll do whatever you need me to do."
"Ah, my favorite words," I teased him, leaning forward to kiss him before gently prying our daughter's fingers off his nose. I kissed them too before pulling her into my arms. "You're going to have a great birthday, sweetheart."
Robin nodded as Emma started to call for him. He sighed. "Well, it seems it's really time to start the day."
As he climbed out of bed, I held Rachel closer and did the same. "Come on, sweetheart, let's go get you and your sister changed. Then we'll check on your brother."
"I'll make breakfast once we get everyone up," Robin offered. "Anything you want in particular?"
"Whatever you feel like will be good," I replied, placing Rachel on my hip as we headed out of the room together.
It was time for the day to begin.
The phone rang again that afternoon as I was watching a movie with Roland. I told him I would be right back and slipped out from under the blanket, heading into the kitchen. Picking up the phone, I said: "Hello."
"Regina, hi," Charming said, sounding out of breath. "Okay, I think I figured out where to take Snow on our second date."
"You did? Where?" I asked, eager to help him.
He paused, no doubt catching his breath. "Red – Ruby – suggested that if I wanted to take someone special out for a nice dinner, I should go to Tony's. I checked it out and it looks like a nice place."
"I'm sure it is," I said, dimly recalling The Lady and the Tramp. I was pretty sure the restaurant the dogs ate behind had the same name. "It's probably very romantic."
"I hope so. So, what do I do now?" he asked me, sounding very lost.
Chuckling, I said: "You need to call up and make a reservation. Set up a date and time for you and Mary Margaret to go eat there."
"You can't just walk in like you can with Granny's?" he asked, sounding confused.
"I'm sure you can," I replied, "but it's better to have a reservation. That way you're guaranteed a table there."
He paused and it sounded like he was writing it down. "Alright. What else?"
"Do you own a suit?" I asked.
"A what?" he asked in response and I sighed. It seemed I was going to have to plan a visit to Storybrooke to take him shopping and I told him so.
David was quiet for a moment before asking: "So aside from this suit, is there anything else I need? Should I give her flowers?"
"Yes," I replied. "Flowers are always a safe option."
"So I need to see if the florist has snowbells," he said excitedly. "Those are her favorites."
I hesitated, not sure if Mary Margaret would have the same taste in flowers as Snow White. "Maybe mix them with some roses, just in case," I told him.
"Oh, because Mary Margaret may not like snow bells," he realized, sounding sad.
"Yeah," I told him. "But this would be a good way to start jogging her memory. I'm sure part of her remembers being Snow White."
He sighed. "I hope so."
"It's going to take time," I said. "You're just going to be patient. But she fell in love with you once, she'll do it again."
"Thanks, Regina. I appreciate all the help you and Robin have been giving me," he said. "It means a lot."
I smiled even though he couldn't see me. "You're welcome. We're happy to help you. You're not alone in this, remember that."
"I will, Regina," he promised.
"Mama?" Roland called out, reminding me that I had left him alone. "Are you coming?"
Covering the phone's speaker, I turned my head from it and toward the door. "I'll be right there, sweetheart."
"You go," Charming told me before I even uncovered the phone. "Spend time with your son. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"Okay, Charming," I replied. "Take care of yourself. Goodbye."
I hung up the phone and returned to the living room. Roland crossed his arms as I approached. "You took forever, Mama."
"Sorry, sweetheart," I said, joining him on the couch again. He cuddled against my side as I pressed a kiss to him. "Why don't we watch another movie to make up for it?"
He nodded. "Okay."
I pulled the blanket around us together and we found another movie to watch. Snuggled together, I let out a soft sigh and settled in for the rest of my afternoon with my son.
"This seems odd," I said, resting my chin on Robin's chest as we laid in bed together that night.
He played with my hair as he asked: "What does?"
"Helping Charming woo his wife," I replied. "They are the ultimate love story. What if I screw it up?"
"You won't," he assured me.
I sighed. "How can you be so sure?"
"Because you're amazing," he replied. "And you'll have me there to help you as well. I like to think I'm something of an expert on wooing women."
"Oh, really?" I asked, teasing him gently as I smiled.
He nodded, brushing the hair he had been playing with off my shoulder. "Well, I wooed you and Marian."
"You did," I agreed, thinking about to the early days of our relationship. "Though while I can't speak for Marian, we did have a connection almost from the moment I fainted into your arms."
"We did," he agreed, brushing some hair away from my face. "And I really wasn't focused on wooing you because you were married. Romancing another man's wife is not very honorable."
I nodded, thinking of how torn I had been as my feelings for Robin had deepened and grown while we were "married" back in the Enchanted Forest. Moving closer to him, I smiled. "True. But I still fell in love with you."
He smiled. "You did. And I am so glad you choose me."
"I am too," I replied, kissing him. "I can't imagine not being your wife or raising our children together."
"Neither can I," he said, pressing his forehead to mine.
We lay there like that for a few moments, just drinking each other in. I closed my eyes, watching our relationship play out again in my mind. And while it wasn't a traditional fairy tale, it certainly was my fairy tale.
"So," I said, breaking the silence. "How do you propose Charming romance his wife who doesn't remember she's his wife?"
"Well, Charming needs to romance the woman is wife is now," he replied. "Not the woman he remembers or wishes she was. He needs to make Mary Margaret fall in love with David Nolan."
I sighed, knowing he was right but worried it wouldn't work. "Do you think he can do that?"
He nodded. "I think so. Mary Margaret reminds me a lot of Snow White."
"You think so?" I asked. "She seems…softer…than Snow White. More timid."
"I don't know," he replied. "I just think Mary Margaret hasn't had a chance to show the world – and herself – what she is made of."
I paused, thinking it over. There really was nothing to challenge Mary Margaret in Storybrooke. So it was likely Robin was right and I nodded. "I'm sure she's stronger than even she realizes."
"I think the main issue will be that Mary Margaret is going to expect modern dating traditions," Robin replied. "And Charming will be clueless."
"You think he'll be clueless?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Robin nodded, looking sheepish. "Because I'm clueless when it comes to this world's dating traditions. That's why we'll be a great team."
I smiled, leaning against his chest again. "We're already a great team."
"Yes, we are," he agreed, playing with some of her hair. "So, what do you suppose we do now? Get some sleep and figure out our game place in the morning?"
"We could do that," I replied. I then leaned closer, lowering my voice as I said: "Or you could show me how romantic you are."
He grinned, biting his lip as his eyes swept over my body. "I'm not sure this is romantic as much as seductive."
"Well, seduction is part of romance," I told him, wrapping my arms around him. "I think we know that very well."
"True, though I do believe I romanced you before seducing you," he pointed out, rubbing my back.
I nodded. "You did. Because you are an honorable man."
"I am," he replied, "though I will admit it had some very dishonorable thoughts about you many times during our fake marriage."
That made me laugh before I admitted. "Don't worry. I had some very dishonorable thoughts about you too."
He raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
I nodded, moving even closer to him. "Oh, yes. I was married, not blind. It was hard not to see how sexy you are."
"I couldn't help but notice how sexy you were as well," he replied.
"I certainly didn't feel sexy in some of those clothes back in the Enchanted Forest," I told him, laughing. "I felt somewhat shapeless."
He shook his head. "I can assure you that you were certainly not shapeless."
I gently pushed his shoulder. "You got to see me in my shift and how do I know you didn't sneak a peek of me when I was naked?"
"I would never violate your trust like that," he told me, frowning. I could see hurt in his eyes and my heart broke as he added: "I hope I never gave you the impression I was trying to take advantage of you."
"You didn't," I assured him, rubbing his arm. "I always felt safe in your presence and I trusted you to respect me. I was just joking."
He relaxed a bit and his eyes softened. "Sorry. I just sometimes still worry that I wasn't as honorable as I tried to be when we were only fake married."
"You were," I replied, kissing the end of his nose. "I couldn't ask for a better fake husband. Now, I can't ask for a better real husband."
"Well, I can't ask for a better wife," he told me, kissing me. We laid there for a while, just sharing slow, languid kisses as the night deepened outside the walls of our house.
I broke the kisses and snuggled against him. "Maybe we're overthinking this," I said.
"What do you mean?" he asked, rubbing my back again.
"I think we're putting so much pressure on getting Mary Margaret to fall in love with Charming that we may be self-sabotaging ourselves," I replied. "We just fell in love. They just fell in love as Snow and Charming."
He nodded. "Que sera, sera?"
"Yes," I replied, recalling the words I told him when we decided to pursue the feelings between us. "Exactly that."
"You're right," he agreed. "So we'll give Charming advice but try not to push too hard. And we should advise him to do the same."
I nodded. "Then I guess we have a gameplan."
He smiled, kissing my forehead. "Yes, we do. And not even a curse can stop us when we put our minds to something."
"After all, it couldn't keep us apart," I told him, wrapping my arms around him and kissing him. He responded eagerly, leading to another round of slow and languid kisses as we laid entwined under the blankets.
Robin broke the kiss and nuzzled me. "You know, I sometimes wonder about that fairy who saved Roland and me from the curse," he said.
"I do too," I replied, certain the fairy who saved them had also led me to the Enchanted Forest in the first place. "What do you think her plan was? Or is?"
"I don't know," he answered, shrugging. "But it must be something. Do you think she's here in this realm?"
I frowned. "I don't know. Why?"
"I was hoping maybe she could help," he replied. "Even if she doesn't have her magic, maybe she also has her memories."
"That could be possible," I agreed, thinking about how Rumple clearly had his memories. "She might be able to point us in some direction that could help."
He grinned. "So are we going to find the fairy?"
"First things first, let's help Charming get through his next date with Mary Margaret," I said. "Then we can go find the fairy."
"Sounds like a good plan," he replied, kissing me again. "So, um, I believe we were talking about seduction earlier…?"
I wrapped my arms around him, smiling. "Yes, we were. I believe you promised to seduce me, Lord Locksley."
He chuckled, pulling me flush against his body. "I believe I did, Lady Locksley. Shall I start?"
"You shall," I replied, feeling giddy. I reached up and snapped my fingers, plunging our room into darkness as we got ready what promised to be a very good night.
"How do I look? Do I look okay? Is this good for a date or should I be more formal?" A panicked Charming stepped out from his bedroom, clearly nervous. I looked him over. He wore a nice navy suit with a light blue shirt and matching tie, all of which made his eyes really pop. Not only did it make him look good but it was perfect for an establishment such as Tony's Restaurant.
I smiled, straightening his tie. "You look very handsome. Snow is going to swoon when she sees you."
"I hope you don't mean that literally," he said, frowning. "I wouldn't want to have to rouse her for our date."
"It's just an expression. I don't think she's going to literally swoon. But she is absolutely going to be impressed by how well you clean up," I told him, stepping back.
Robin stepped up to us, holding out the bouquet of roses and snowbells Charming had gotten for Mary Margaret. "Go woo your wife, Your Highness."
"Thank you both for your help," he said, taking the bouquet. "Please, make yourselves comfortable while I'm gone."
"We will," Robin assured him. "Don't worry about us."
I gave him a thumb's up. "Good luck!"
He left the apartment. We followed, hanging around the door and leaving it open a crack so we could hear how it went. After a few moments of silence, we heard Charming greet Mary Margaret before asking: "Are you okay?"
"Oh no," I whispered, my stomach sinking. I had a feeling plans were about to change – drastically.
We were unable to hear Mary Margaret's response but could at least hear that she was talking. After that, Charming said: "No, I understand. It's okay. You just focus on getting better. We can have dinner another night."
I glanced up at Robin, who grimaced. We had not considered that Mary Margaret could get sick and I wanted to hit myself. She was a teacher in this world, meaning she was surrounded by children almost every day. And I knew how children were essentially walking germ factories. We probably should've prepared for this.
Hearing footsteps on the stairs, I pushed Robin away from the door and closed it. We hurried to the couch and pretended that we hadn't been listening in as Charming entered the apartment. While he looked absolutely dejected, he didn't have the flowers anymore and I took that as a good sign.
"She's sick," he said flatly. "Apparently, she has a stomach bug, whatever that means."
I groaned, knowing that was no picnic. Beside me, Robin made a face as well. "It means that she's unable to keep anything down. And will likely be able to do so for several hours."
"Oh," Charming replied. "Is it serious?"
"It's pretty common and usually passes within twenty-four hours. She might need another day to recuperate but she'll be fine pretty quickly," I told him. "Nothing really to worry about."
He nodded, looking relieved. "Is there anything I can do to help her? I don't think I can stay down here knowing she's sick and miserable."
Well, does she need any medicine? Perhaps you can run to the store to get some for her?" Robin suggested, glancing at me.
I frowned, knowing that there was no medicine for a stomach bug. It just had to run its course. But there were things he could get to help her. "Well, not medicine, but she's probably going to be dehydrated. You can get her some Pedialyte to help her stay hydrated."
"Don't you give that to the children?" Robin asked me, looking and sounding confused.
"Yes," I replied, "but adults can drink it too. We all need electrolytes, no matter how old we are."
Both men tilted their heads at the same time and I chuckled. "All you have to know is that they are important."
"Alright," Charming said, jumping up. "I'll go get her that Pedialyte and then go upstairs and take care of her."
I stood as well. "Whoa, whoa. Slow down. No woman is going to want the man she's interested in seeing her when she's a complete mess. And I will remind you that in this realm, you are not her husband."
Robin paused before nodding. "I have to agree with Regina. I think it's admirable that you want to take care of her but you need to respect her boundaries or you'll scare her off."
"Getting the Pedialyte and reminding her that you're downstairs if she needs anything is a good start," I continued. "It shows you care but you're not being pushy."
He nodded, determination in his eyes. "Right. Caring but not overbearing."
"Look at you, Dr. Seuss," I teased him. "I think you've got it."
"Yes!" he exclaimed. His smile then fell as he tilted his head, asking: "Who is Dr. Seuss?"
Robin chuckled, clapping Charming on the back. "You'll find out in good time. For now, why don't you go to the store to pick up the supplies for Snow?"
"Right," Charming replied. "Should I pick anything else up while I'm there?"
I nodded. "I'd also get some crackers and ginger ale. That will also help settle her stomach."
"I should probably write this down," he said, heading to the kitchen. "I don't want to forget anything."
"Good call," I replied, following him. I watched as he pulled out a pen and a piece of paper. Once he was ready, I spelled out Pedialyte for him and watched as he finished his list.
He nodded, writing it all down. "Anything else?"
"I think that's good," I said. "Unless you want anything for yourself."
"Maybe I will pick up a few things, since we won't be going to dinner," Charming replied. He then grimaced before: "I forgot about the reservations."
I had forgotten about them too and I glanced at the clock, knowing that they were supposed to be at the restaurant soon. Biting my lip, I sighed. "You should call the restaurant and tell them you won't be coming. That way they can release the table to someone else."
Charming tilted his head, his eyes looking between me and Robin. "Or do you two want to take the reservation instead?"
"What?" I asked, surprised. Turning to Robin, I asked: "What do you think?"
He rubbed his chin. "We do have the babysitter until later tonight. And we were just going to get Granny's anyway. It would be nice to go out to eat at a restaurant. Another date night."
"That does sound nice," I replied. I then glanced at our jeans and frowned. "But we're definitely not dressed for a nice restaurant like Tony's."
"I think you can easily fix that," Robin said, flicking his wrist to mimic a move I did when I used my magic.
Charming jumped in then. "Mal did enchant my apartment so that Zelena couldn't sense the use of magic in here. You could do it safely."
"Fine," I said, crumbling from my desire for a romantic night out with my husband. I turned to Charming. "You'll be fine?"
He nodded. "I think I've got it. Get these items, drop them off and express my concern but keep my distance."
"Alright, then," I said. I motioned to Robin. "Come closer so I can magic us date outfits."
"Gladly," he replied, stepping closer to me. "I'm ready."
I raised my hand and flicked my wrist, imagining the perfect outfits for a lovely dinner date at a nice restaurant. My clothes changed from a shirt and jeans to a dress and my sneakers became heels. When I opened my eyes, my familiar cloud of purple magic dissipated and I took in the dress I had created for myself – it was blue and had lacy long sleeves, matching the lace pattern on the bodice that lay over the satin material that matched the A-line skirt. Blue heels completed my outfit.
"You look beautiful," Robin said, taking my hand and kissing it. "Stunning, in every way."
"You say that when I'm in my pajamas and have some serious bedhead," I teased him.
He shrugged. "Because it's always true. But you look especially stunning right now."
"You look pretty good yourself," I said, straightening his blue tie and then tugging on the navy suit jacket he wore. "You clean up nicely, Lord Locksley."
"Thank you, milady," he replied, holding his arm to me. "Shall we head out then?"
I nodded before looking at Charming. "Thank you so much. What name is the reservation under?"
"David," he replied. "It's easier to remember than my last name here."
"Thank you," Robin said, shaking Charming's hand. "We'll check in once we're home. Have a good night."
Charming grinned. "You too. I'll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck, though."
"Good luck," I said, reaching out to squeeze his arm. "I'm sure it will all work out. You just have to stay positive."
He nodded. "Thanks, Regina."
Robin then escorted me from our friend's loft and to our car. Soon, we were on our way to our date night at Tony's. I bit my lip, eager to have a romantic evening with my husband.
"That was absolutely delicious," Robin said, setting down his fork and knife as he leaned back in his chair. "This place is amazing."
I nodded, feeling like I could explode from how much I had eaten. Picking up my glass, I sipped my wine. "Snow and Charming are going to love it here when they can come."
He reached out, taking my hand and rubbing it with his thumb. "I can't think of a more romantic place. She'll fall in love with him in no time."
"It takes a lot more than good food," I reminded him. "I'm sure you know that."
"Yes, I do," he said. "Thankfully they already have the same attraction we did toward each other. That goes a lot further than a good meal at a nice restaurant."
I nodded. "It does."
He bit his lip before saying: "Well, enough about Charming and Snow. This is night is now about is."
"Indeed," I agreed. "So what do you want to talk about?"
"Whatever you want to talk about," he replied, once again rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb. "Just not about Snow and Charming or the children."
I tilted my head, debating what I wanted to talk about then. "You know what we should do soon?"
"What?" he asked.
"We should go to the movies," I said. "Not just watch them on TV."
He leaned forward, intrigued. "So there really is a place you go to and watch movies? And eat popcorn while doing it?"
I nodded. "There is. The seats are barely padded and the floor is always sticky but it's magical."
"Even more magical than you?" he asked, sipping his wine.
"Well, maybe not that magical," I replied, deciding to have some fun with it. "But pretty close to it."
He hummed, looking over with a hunger in his eyes. "I guess I'll have to just see for myself. But definitely another night. Tonight, I have other plans for you."
"Is that so?" I asked, swirling the last of my wine around my glass. "Care to elaborate?"
"You know me," he replied, smirking at me now. "I'm more a man of action than a man of words."
I bit my lip as something hot burned deep inside me. "Yes, you are."
"So what do you say to me getting the bill and for us to head home?" he asked, eyes already searching for our waiter. I was about to agree when music started to play. Couples started to head to a small dancefloor and an idea washed over me.
Before I could say anything, Robin looked back at me and asked: "May I have this dance?"
"You may," I said, watching as he stood. He held out his hand to me and helped me up. We walked to the dancefloor, joining the others there.
Robin placed his hand on my hip as he held my other hand. I rested my free hand on his shoulder as we swayed in time to the music. "It's been far too long since we've danced," I said.
"I know," he replied. "We should do more often."
"Where?" I asked, wondering if there was any place in our small town where we could go dancing.
He shrugged. "We can always just dance in our living room."
I imagine us just swaying around our living room after the children had gone to sleep, the two of us holding each other close as we smiled. Biting my lip, I nodded. "That sounds wonderful."
"I should thank whatever kid got Snow sick," he said, smiling and revealing the dimples I loved so much. "If not for whoever they were, we would be sitting in Charming's loft and not dancing here now."
"We still would've made the most of it," I told him, certain of that fact. After all, we would've been alone without the children. We just would've had to be careful to avoid a repeat of the time Charming had walked in on Robin and me in a rather compromising position back in the Enchanted Forest.
Honestly, I was impressed he could look us in the eyes again.
"I'm sure," he said, nodding. "But isn't this much better?"
I laughed as he dipped me. When he righted me again, I said: "Yes, this is much better. I guess we do have to thank that kid. But I hope she feels better soon."
"Me too," he replied, holding me even closer. "I hope she and Charming get to have this moment. But for now, it is ours."
"Yes, it is," I agreed, laying my head on his shoulder as another song started to play. He gently placed my chin on my head and we just swayed together as I closed my eyes. Robin's warmth and love enveloped me and I let out a contented sigh.
We would help Charming woo his wife again another night. Tonight, the only love that mattered was the one I shared with my husband.
A/N: Here's the newest chapter of Once Upon a Time! Poor Mary Margaret got knocked out by a virus but it certainly gave Charming to step up! And it allowed our favorite couple some time to themselves.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
