Chapter 25: Chaos magic
Wundagore-Years ago
"Is she a mutant?"
Agatha Harkness had to roll her eyes as she and Herbert Wyndham did what Erik Lensherr hired them to do, analyse his little girl. Wyndham's bestial scientists, the goat Ram and the cow Bova had been carrying out numerous tests on the girl. Her brother was pressed against the glass apprehensively, his fingers and toes vibrating so much they released sparks. Erik was the statue of stoic, but inside Agatha knew he was filled with anger. He was by his nature a man led by his rage, no one but him was right, and he was entitled to do whatever he wanted. Twice he'd threatened Jonathon Drew; he would have done the same with Wyndham if the man wasn't enhanced himself. Agatha however had a different gift, the dark haired woman may have worn a red jacket and black skirt, all of the finest western make, but she was still a woman of Wundagore, descendent of gypsies and a woman of many years despite her young appearance.
"Pietro's enhanced metabolism and speed have been apparent and growing since he was twelve years old, Wanda however, at first I thought it was telekinesis, then she seemed to be able to bring out the nightmares boys in the camp had, then as if through magic she conjured dinosaurs within the Savage Land, I had to quell the local outrage," Erik explained.
"You'll be pleased to know Mr Lensherr your daughter is indeed a mutant," Herbert stepped into the room, still in his surgical gear.
He'd gleefully cut open Wanda's wrists for samples, at the same time testing Bova's healing ability. Unlike Ram, whom shared his creator's sadism and love for science, Bova was kind and comforted the girl. Jonathon Drew, Wyndham's colleague from the states confirmed it, a pure mutant strain.
"What she was able to do, is it possible she inherited Magda's magic?" Erik asked.
He didn't even trade a second glance at the child, choosing instead to glare at Wyndham.
"It is true that she could have inherited her mother's potential for magic, but the real power comes from her mutant ability," Wyndham said.
"Chaos magic," Agatha muttered.
"What is that woman?" Erik demanded.
"Something beyond the understanding of science, but if you still require a logical explanation then perhaps it would be better if Wyndham explained," Agatha stated and Wyndham smiled.
"Her hex abilities, manipulating probabilities, the telekinesis for her flight, the mind tricks, none of them are individual abilities, they all stem from her central power," he explained.
Now
"Dormammu," a voice called out.
Aeon felt his vision blur slightly, something was wrong with his powers in the Dark Dimension. He looked up as Wanda suddenly landed in front of them, her eyes and hands glowing red as she faced Dormammu.
"I've come to bargain," she said.
Dormammu narrowed his eyes, before roaring at Wanda. Shards of purple diamonds appeared around Wanda and shot towards her. Aeon stretched his hands out, but he was too late, the shards pierced through Wanda's chest and back and her eyes froze in horror.
"WANDA!"Aeon yelled.
Croatia-Then
"Don't burst into tears just yet Cyclops," Logan shouted into his comm.
The newest X-man drove in a police car through the streets of Croatia, his foot pushed down on the pedal. In the seat next to him was a brown haired girl, the president's daughter.
"She's alive and well and only hours away from worrying about boys, zits and trigonometry again," he stated, swerving the car slightly when red sparks began appearing on the road.
"Unless of course the Scarlet Witch up there fries us with one of her hex bolts," Logan snarled.
Above the streets, Wanda flew, hex energy glowing in her hands. As a member of the Brotherhood of mutants, she wore a red bathing suit, pink tights, red boots and gloves and had her M tiara and red cloak fluttering like her father's would. She prepared another flurry of hex bolts when something slammed into her side. It was wearing a white and red jacket, its hood over its head. It also wore plates on its sneakers and gloves. He, Wanda realised it was a guy, trying to grab her hands. She flipped, slamming him back first onto the ground. The force of the blow through his hood off, revealing he had a mask on his lower face. A young man with grey eyes looked up at her, before flipping her onto her back.
"Did you clear it Wolverine?" the boy asked.
"Reaching a hundred and twenty…I hope…NOW!" Logan yelled.
He drove the car off of a cliff, crossing a distance and crashing into the X-jets cargo area.
"You'd do anything to impress a seventeen year old in a tight sweater wouldn't you?" Jean asked over the radio.
"Actually, I've kind got my eye on a telepathic nineteen year old, but I'm worried she's gonna waste her life waiting on a loser who brushes his teeth six times a day," Logan explained.
"Maybe you should give it a try then Logan, I mean it might improve your breath," Sven said.
"When did you smell my breath kid?"
"Lose the cigars Wolverine and you never know your luck," Jean smirked.
"Cyclops to Marvel girl, give yourself a pat on the back and rendezvous five miles west as planned. Oh and Wolverine, Aeon, nice work," Scott said.
Aeon jumped as Scarlet Witch fired a hex bolt at him. She raised her hands, influencing Sven's abilities. He lost his enhanced mobility from fusion with the wind, and when he landed, he lost his balance. But he was able to tug on Wanda's cape, pulling her down on top of him. She threw her legs at him and he caught her heels.
"We're done here, I don't want to fight you," Sven said.
"Bad news people," Colossus's voice suddenly came over the radio. "The Brotherhood's plane just touched down for the savage land trip, with a guy in a purple cape who looks disturbingly familiar," he explained.
Sven widened his eyes for a moment, a sudden fear gripping his heart. Magneto, the master of magnetism had arrived. Taking advantage of his distracted state, Wanda brought her hand around, hitting Sven with a hex bolt that threw him back. His ears rung from the blow, barely hearing Cyclops's order to retreat, but he still didn't give up. Wanda released another hex bolt and Sven jumped, sweeping his leg around and striking the bolt. At that moment, he fused with the effects of Wanda's magic. The same light that glowed around Wanda, glowed around him. She widened her eyes as he flicked his finger.
Now
"Dormammu," a voice called out.
Dormammu smirked, laughing at the futility of the witch's actions.
'Wait, what is this sense of Déjà vu?' he wondered.
Savage Land
Wanda enjoyed the sight of the streams, the trees, though she disliked the name her home and where Magneto was building his mutant community, was a place that hadn't been affected by the reach of humanity. The air was cleaner, the weather stable and predictable enough to grow crops and the plans Magneto composed for his citadel wouldn't harm the eco system. New mutants were being brought to the Savage land to join her father's cause.
"Nice to meet you James, I look forward to getting to know you better," she said with a friendly smile to the feral looking man in tactical gear.
"It's just Logan miss, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you as well," the man's gruff tone did nothing to conceal his flirtations.
Pietro stood taller than the man, crossing his arms in an attempt to intimidate him. He certainly mirrored their father, particularly with the purple suit he wore. It was Pietro's attempt to emulate and please his father.
"Pietro!" the man called from his tent. "Logan is our guest," he chided the boy.
Wanda patted Pietro's shoulder and motioned for them to leave, to let Erik discuss Logan's living arrangements and role in the community. Pietro still held his head low as they walked through the jungle, taking the safe route as always.
"Why is it father despises me so? No matter what I do, it's never enough," Pietro said.
She offered a sympathetic look, she couldn't think of anything that might relieve the burden on her brother. He wanted to please Magneto, to be praised by him and to see looks of pride rather than shame. It wasn't as if she didn't understand, she too didn't get praised, in fact rather than be proud of her powers Erik seemed ashamed.
"It doesn't matter, we still have each other," she said.
"I wish we could return to the Balkans, to mother…" Pietro's voice drifted as he touched Wanda's hand. "You look more like her everyday," he added, with a voice that made Wanda feel uncomfortable.
Even if a part of her felt the same, who else but her brother could understand what it was like to be in the shadow of a parent. Just as she was about to grasp his hand however, Logan came down from the trees. With a feral yell, he drove his claws through Pietro's shoulder. He shoved Wanda aside, even as Logan pinned him to the ground.
"If you try and move as quick as you are, the blades will slice through your chest," Logan stated.
"Wanda…run," Pietro whispered.
She got off of the floor, looking at Logan, the fury welling inside her. All of her fear was replaced with need, a need to save her brother, a need to punish their attacker and above all the need to be what she was.
"James…" she seethed, her eyes glowing red.
Logan turned his head just as Wanda unleashed a storm of scarlet energy. The ground shook and it was then that Logan realised who the most powerful of Magneto's children was. If anything he realised Pietro was protecting the world from Wanda.
"YOU WILL LEAVE MY BROTHER ALONE!" she screamed.
With crimson eyes they appeared, ripped from time, Wanda's imagination and will giving them form. Logan considered himself a predator, an apex, so she called forth animals to hunt him. The shockwave echoed across the Savage Land, species long extinct suddenly rose. Like a goddess she gave the Dinosaurs a second chance at life. And one particular red scaled T-Rex chased Logan until the man jumped off of a cliff. The glow faded from Wanda and she looked at her hands in horror. Then she ran to her brother's side, helping him sit on a nearby rock.
"I should've been faster, letting that maniac anywhere near you," he chided himself.
"Are we going to talk about it, or just pretend it didn't happen?" Wanda asked.
"What the dinosaurs, we'll tell everyone it's one of father's experiments gone wrong," Pietro said.
"I didn't want to conjure anything like that Pietro, I just got so angry, if I can't control this power then how do I know it won't control me?"
There were tears in her eyes, but as always Pietro wiped them away.
"Because I won't let it, we'll look after each other Wanda like we always have," he leant towards her, taking hold of her hand. "And nothing will ever split us apart," he said, looking at her with affection.
Wanda closed her eyes, stroking Pietro's cheek. But to his shock, she turned away, hugging her arms.
'No, not with Pietro, how could I...' he thoughts drifted, knowing for a moment she was tempted.
Croatia
Wanda looked at Sven in shock; he had deflected the effect of her power. More than that he had fused with the chaos magic, it was temporary, it had been for just a few seconds. But it was a spectacular sight as Sven landed, his bruises healed, and his eyes burning red. He extended his hands as grey armour began to wrap around his body. Gauntlets slammed over his red gloves, and a familiar finned helmet formed around his head. Through the darkness of the knight's visor, his eyes glowed. He tilted his head in the direction of gunfire, and the feeling that someone needed help.
"They hate us Cyclops, as far as ordinary people are concerned, we rank somewhere between athlete's foot and child molesters," Storm explained.
The cold she had tried to summon froze her tears. She tended to Beast's wounds whilst Colossus tried to protect them.
"Even Professor X was ready to sacrifice all seven of us, just to save some spoiled little white chick with an old money surname," Ororo said.
Suddenly, Aeon crashed into the ground in his new armoured form. For a moment Colossus didn't recognise him, but the way Sven raised his arms was familiar to him.
"You might want to take some parts of what you said back Ororo," Piotr chuckled.
Aeon began walking towards the militia riflemen, their bullets slamming into his armour. He raised his hand, motioning his hands for the Croatians to go. He had no idea if they understood, but they kept shooting anyway. Digging his heels into the ground, he built up some more power, going on the old saying.
'Steady as the mountain, swift like the wind,' Sven thought before launching himself forward.
He snatched one of the rifles and lifted the man into the air, the others around him aiming their weapons at him. Sven turned his head, making sure they all saw the fury in his glowing eyes. Then, he dropped the man he was holding and bent their rifle, pointing again for the men to leave. They were afraid, and that was what Sven wanted. He wanted them to scared that they would take the better offer, and go back to their families.
But just as the militia got far, train carts suddenly slammed on top of them.
"NO!" Sven yelled.
The carts exploded, creating more chaos and death. The top corner of Sven's helmet shattered and he looked towards the smoke. He saw the silhouettes of the Brotherhood members, and floating above them was Magneto himself.
"Actually, I can hardly believe Charles sent you here myself," he said.
"BACK OFF MAGNETO!" Cyclops yelled.
"THAT'S ENOUGH ALL OF YOU!" Aeon yelled, stomping his foot into the ground.
Even his exposed eye was still glowing. He lifted off pieces of debris from Beast's body.
"There's been enough violence today, we need to get our people out of here," Sven said, remaining confident and defiant even as the armour on his right shoulder shattered.
"Don't talk to me about your people young man. Your people are being executed on the streets of so called civilised society every day, and what are you doing you treacherous little lapdog?" Magneto asked.
"Keeping you from potentially killing a girl whose only crime is that the president is her father," Aeon retorted.
He and Magneto's eyes met for a moment, both glaring at the other, neither conceding to the other. To Storm's shock, Magneto lifted the metal off of Beast with his powers, and even tipped a van for them.
"Sabotaging a simple kidnap plot which might have ended the presidents sentinel initiative at a stroke. How could you come here and risk your lives to defend the state-sanctioned murder of your own species?"
"Maybe some of us think less about species and more about people, this wouldn't have ended a thing Magneto, you and the president are both at fault," Sven explained.
"Doesn't it bring a tear to your eye that you might have sacrificed a friend in your bid to ingratiate yourselves with your persecutors?" Magneto asked.
Finally Sven's helmet shattered as Blob and Colossus loaded Beast onto the van.
"You weren't trying to stop the Sentinel initiative, you were trying to justify it and your actions. But you've already got plenty of self righteousness Lensherr, and plenty of irony too," Sven quipped.
"JUST GO!" Magneto yelled.
Wanda watched the van leave with the X-men. Her eyes had been on Sven, intrigued by his power and his demeanour. When she looked over at her father, beneath the rage she could see the same intrigue as well.
Now
"I've come to bargain," Wanda smirked.
Dormammu roared, unleashed a breath of fire that consumed the Scarlet Witch.
"WANDA!" Sven yelled.
Dormammu widened his eyes as red energy filled part of the dark dimension.
Then
Beast was out of action, currently undergoing treatment whilst Logan made moves on Jean, and Magneto was a self righteous stupid face. At least that was the summary James Crowner got from Sven. He was an energy manipulating mutant with a penchant for invention, and had been looking over the X-men uniform that Charles had given Sven. James, or Tito as he was sometimes called had become fascinated with the technology behind the suit. Fancying himself as a super hero, he wore a dark blue suit with light blue swash buckling boots and gloves.
"Fascinating," he mused.
"I know, it just baffles the mind how someone like Magneto could think his actions would actually have some kind of positive outcome," Sven said.
"Well one could say the same thing about putting on a costume and fighting crime, but that wasn't my point, my point Sven is that for all the X-men's separation from human kind, they're actually dependent on making the Sentinels believe they're human," James explained.
"So how do the suits work Tito?" Sven asked.
"Avoiding the complicated and possibly even made up scientific lingo, the suits basically fool scanners into believing that the wearer has no X-gene," James stated.
"So it may be possible to reverse the process and trick scanners into believing you're a mutant," Sven said.
"What do you think I've been doing for the past hour?" James asked, putting on his glasses and turning to the suit on his bench. "I didn't need to cut the suit open to figure out how it worked," he boasted.
Within days, James had created a new uniform for Sven. It was a variant of the type of uniform Cyclops wore, but the utility strap was converted into a bigger belt. In place of the suits black and yellow colour scheme was grey and red. He added armoured padding to Sven's knees and boots and made the gloves longer, putting padding on the elbows. Then he added a cowl, that would go along with a mask Sven wore over his mouth and chin.
"Impressive work Mr Crowner," Xavier said when James and Sven presented their work to him. "There is a place for you at the institute, you'd make a fine addition to the X-men."
"Thanks for the offer Professor, but I prefer self employment," James said.
"I'm going to be playing things a little close to the chest Professor, so I can't really afford to explain myself," Sven said.
"I understand young man, be careful though, Magneto always had his angry side and I fear his sense of superiority has degraded into full on megalomania," Charles explained.
"Oh I'm sure he's great, he certainly didn't give that impression in Croatia," Sven chuckled.
Scott taught Sven how to use the jet, they both had father's who had been in the air force. Christopher Summers later went into commercial flying, Slade Reilly became an MP and then a S.H.I.E.L.D. investigator. Sven pulled his mask over his face when he reached the Savage Land, knowing that Magneto would respect the persona he had built more than the face beneath it. Whatever scanners Magneto had for detecting mutants, reacted to the upgrades James made to the suit. He landed and waded through the muck towards Magneto and his party, trying not to get lost in the awe of the mutant Citadel.
"I'm interested Magneto, let's hear about your solution to our predicament huh," Sven said.
Magneto looked at the boy, his brow bent into the same frown he had in Croatia. But then Magneto smiled and placed his hand on Sven's shoulder.
"Welcome to the Savage land brother Aeon," he said.
Now
"WANDA!" Aeon screamed.
To Dormammu's confusion however, Wanda landed in front of him again.
"Dormammu, I've come to bargain," she said, flicking her wrists and releasing hex energy.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!" Dormammu yelled.
"Done what I do best, what Agatha Harkness taught me to do, created a little chaos. Even in a place like this I was able to control my reality manipulation ability just enough to alter the dark dimension, into a hex dimension…a hex dimension that exists in a loop," Wanda explained.
"Dormammu, I've come to bargain," she suddenly appeared again, jarring Dormammu's senses.
He summoned spikes from the ground and impaled the Scarlet Witch.
Then
"We were supposed to go to London Aeon, not Washington," Pietro snarled at Sven.
Mastermind provided them with the disguise, but Sven was the pilot. He led them to the Washington monument, where a great many people were already gathered.
"Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding," Sven said.
"What idiot said that?" Toad huffed.
"Albert Einstein…idiot…the biggest idiot in the world," Wanda said, rolling her eyes.
"Keep up a disguise Jason, but make it obvious that we're mutants," Sven said to Mastermind.
"I don't answer to my slave name," the man retorted and Sven rolled his eyes too.
"So you suffered from modern slavery? Held against your will? Forced to do things you didn't want to do whilst another profited? We're all human guys, you all had names, maybe not the best of family but human identities," Sven explained.
"Father will not be pleased that you did this," Pietro said.
"I know, but bombing parliament isn't going to stop them from turning up to work next week and discussing the same issue we're trying to prevent. The Sentinels are wrong, there is a large of the world that believes that, they just aren't as loud and idiotic about being heard as other people are. Politically speaking, what did terrorists ever achieve from their attacks, bloodshed and fear, nothing more. They didn't save their countries or their religion, Muslim American citizens had their troubles, but it got worse after 9/11, after the July underground bombings in London, it didn't help their causes," Sven explained.
"Our cause is evolution Aeon," Pietro said.
"Our cause is nothing if fear is all we have, when fear is all you have then it is nothing, because fear is something to be beaten with courage and hope. In the face of tragedy and bloodshed, people come together. Magneto will only succeed in making enemies, so why not make a few friends whilst we can?"
He turned to one of the rally members.
"Diaz right? Nice to meet you, are you keeping safe?" Sven asked.
"There are humans in this rally, Sentinels don't attack mutants when humans are in the crossfire. I'm glad you came, we're aiming to show the world what mutants are all about," the man explained.
"What are you aiming to do?" Wanda asked.
"There are twenty five mutants in this crowd, and ten humans, we wanted to emphasise the mutant part. We're all gathered here, to do nothing, the humans can fear us, but here we are doing nothing. We just want a place in the world, the same rights everybody else has," Diaz explained.
"You're not out to make or break the world, just to live in it," Sven said and Diaz nodded.
"A lot of these mutants have human parents," Sven added, turning to Pietro and Wanda. "Are they less worthy of life and a place in the world in your eyes?"
It was a question that haunted both siblings when they returned to the Savage Land. Magneto was angry, but it turned out that in Parliament, a member by the name of Peter Wisdom came out as a mutant and made clear his intention was to serve his country, not take it over. Radio 1 DJ Scott Wright also came out as a mutant, leading to his dismissal from the BBC but a twitter movement supporting his degrading the Sentinel project. Parents and focus groups posted blog after blog calling the Sentinel Initiative inhuman and hypocritical of the American government.
"My brother and I are mutants, growing up in a reservation, it didn't surprise us that the government approved the Sentinel project," Magneto scoffed at the interview with a man named John Proudstar.
"I was honestly disappointed by the Sentinel initiative, I understand the need for a defence against mutants like Magneto, but when you implement the detection system of the Sentinels it becomes nothing but legalised racial profiling," he frowned when former President Obama came on.
"The technology of the Sentinels is beyond what we are capable of…they're alien in origin," he skipped past Tsoukalos's interview.
"It is an utter barbaric system, but this gene detection, what if the mutants did the same for us?"
The last part from some random inferior on the street intrigue Magneto. He looked down from his balcony as Sven spoke with a few of the mutants in the community. Even Pietro seemed to get along with him, and Wanda looked at him with a smile that Magneto favoured. As disgusting as it was for him to admit, the affection Pietro had for his sister, and he for him, existed. Their happiness was nothing to Magneto's plan for an heir, and he didn't want some inbred freak inheriting the future. He looked down at Sven unsure of whether to glare at him or try to embrace him.
'He's like you Charles,' he tightened his fist.
Pietro ran up to Magneto, bowing his head.
"There has been no word from Wolverine father, it may be possible that he has fully converted to Xavier's cause," he said.
"More like the woman he wishes to sleep with is playing hard to get," Magneto huffed.
"Actually according to Sven, Wolverine and that red haired girl are already a couple," Pietro said.
"A cold blooded killer like Wolverine falling for a barely legal student of Xavier, listen to yourself Quicksilver, and refer to him as Aeon," Magneto stated.
"Father, he knows the location of a mutant detention facility, only many of the mutants imprisoned are children whose powers caused damage when they awakened. A great many of their parents have already made campaigns for their release if we…"
Magneto swung his hand around, smacking Pietro's cheek. It was a slow blow to him of course, and Pietro felt the slap as slowly as he had seen it coming. He closed his eyes and let out a yell, a scream of depressed agony that he could only let out at super speed. Then he recoiled, his outburst unseen by his father.
"We do not need the assistance of our inferiors boy, is that understood?" Magneto asked.
"Yes father, yes," Pietro whispered.
"Aeon is good for rallying others, he has been beneficial to our cause, but he doesn't understand yet the things that need to be done, do you understand what needs to be done?"
"I, I think I do father," Quicksilver said.
Magneto shook his head in disappointment.
"London boy, get there now and do not fail me," he commanded.
The next day, Sven looked at the news in horror. London had been bombed, both the Parliament and MI6 had been destroyed. He grit his teeth together, hands shaking as the markings glowed across his body. He found Pietro sitting with Wanda, the latter rubbing his shoulders. Sven rushed forward, and again Pietro saw him move at a snail's pace. He read every microbe of anger spreading across Sven's face, the forming of his fist, the tears in his eyes. And like with Magneto, Pietro was prepared to take the punch. But Sven stopped and instead grabbed the sides of Pietro's head.
"Did you at least look at what you did, at the children?" Sven demanded.
Pietro lowered his head as Sven walked away. Wanda comforted her brother with a hug before flying after Sven.
"What happened in London Sven…" she began.
"Was like what happened the day my father died Wanda," he said.
They walked into the jungle, looking at some of the wild life.
"I find it beautiful here, although I always preferred the snow of the Balkans," Wanda said.
"Snow, we took a holiday to Canada once, the snow was my favourite part, it certainly beats this humidity," Sven pulled on his collar and chuckled.
"Pietro, he wasn't proud of what he did Sven," Wanda said.
"I know Wanda, I know, I know that Pietro is good just like a lot of the other people here," Sven said.
"Good?" Wanda looked at him in confusion. "I don't think the world is as clear cut as good and evil."
"But there are things in the world, decisions, choices, situations, where the situation really is that simple, good or evil, right and wrong, your father thinks it's a moral responsibility for mutants to replace humanity…he keeps trying to make you all forget that yes you are mutants, but you're still human. Or if that's too hard, at least remember that you came from humans, your mother, is she not worthy of being remembered?" Sven asked.
Wanda sat on a tree log and hugged her knees.
"She looked like me, it's funny, I took after mum and Pietro inherited father's hair. I remembered how it would be in the snow, she'd give me her cloak to keep warm and we'd make angels and snowmen. One day she disappeared, and father was there to take us in, we travelled here, to this beautiful place, where the snow never falls," Wanda explained.
Sven sat beside Wanda.
"I'd offer you a cloak, but I'm surprised you'd wear one out here," he said.
"Mutant style, father is thinking of everything for his mutant world," Wanda shrugged her shoulders as Sven's eyebrow twitched.
"He did tell me about this 'mutant alphabet', right after he asked me to call him father in front of Pietro," Sven said and Wanda widened her eyes in shock.
"Oh Pietro," Wanda whispered.
"He doesn't deserve either of you, as for his insane request…I had a father, his name was Slade Reilly and he was the best man I ever knew," Sven explained.
"Was he really so good?" Wanda asked.
"He had his flaws like anyone, he was tolerant of others but he hated it when people turned social justice into a harassment tool. He was a great investigator but sometimes could be pretty naïve sometimes. He'd swear when he'd get angry, he loved mum but wasn't afraid to look at other women, he loved comics and books but hated adaptations…can you believe he hated Lord of the Rings?" Sven chuckled, wiping his eyes slightly. "And whenever he went out there to save people, he always saved as many people as he could, he said heroes had to do everything they could to save others, even if it meant sacrifice," he explained, smiling for a moment before he looked at the ground.
"Sacrifice, you mean you'd be willing to die for a complete stranger?" Wanda asked.
"With a little hesitation, but if necessary, yeah I would," Sven said.
Wanda turned away, unsure of herself, unsure of her father and his cause and still reconciling the feelings she had for the young man next to her. She allowed a slither of hex energy out of her fingers.
"I have all this power, but I don't know what I'm meant to do with it, I know what my father would rather have me do, give him grand children," she explained.
"Yeah, he did kind of say you had intentions to seduce me, I think he's already picking names," Sven said.
Wanda bashfully shook her head.
"Oh my goodness, I am so sorry," she said.
"Whatever your power is Wanda, it's yours to use, I think both you and Pietro can be a hell of a lot more than just Magneto's children," Sven said.
Now-Dark Dimension
'I think both you and Pietro can be a hell of a lot more than just Magneto's children.'
His words ran through her mind, drove her to push her powers. Wanda stood surrounded by the full brunt of her power, confident in it and herself, she looked up at the lord of the dark dimension with a smile that emphasised that new confidence.
"I've come to bargain," she said.
"FINE! FINE!" Dormammu screamed. "WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT! JUST MAKE IT STOP DAMN IT! MAKE IT STOP!"
The heroes returned to their world, welcomed by their gathered comrades. Wanda was leading Aeon and two British heroes, Strange supported by Union Jack.
"The Mindless Ones, they all of a sudden began to run through," Valkyrie said.
"Aye, twas clear that it was not our might alone that quelled them," Thor added.
"But how, Dormammu is one of the most powerful beings in the Multiverse, how did you stop him?" Strange Junior asked, his costume dishevelled and frustration clear.
"Chaos magic and the power of reality manipulation," Strange said.
"Wanda, you used your power?" Pietro asked, going to his sister's side.
"I did, I created a loop, a loop of Dormammu and myself fighting. He killed me so many times, but he was aware of the loop, aware that I could keep it up forever," Wanda explained.
"Could you have maintained that though?" Wasp asked.
"Let's just say Dormammu didn't know that I knew," Wanda grinned.
"You gambled," Spider-man said.
"You basically made Dormammu rage quit," Ice-man said.
Dr Strange looked towards the cloak of levitation; it seemed to flutter in the wind. But at the moment he tried to grab it, it flew around his father. Strange Senior simply smiled before he turned to Wanda.
"You took a great risk, tampered with powers far beyond what humans should have, but it is clear you've learned the mystic arts well and have been able to fight the darkness and temptation," Strange said. "Wanda Maximoff, from now on…"
The cloak suddenly wrapped around Wanda, and an eye shaped symbol appeared on her neck.
"You are the sorcerer supreme," Strange declared.
"Now that's a promotion," Nighthawk muttered.
"Luke is gonna kick himself for missing this," Hell Cat said.
"Congratulations Wanda," Wasp slapped Wanda's shoulder and Pietro smiled in approval.
"No, no, not congratulations, no congratulations at all!"
The heroes turned to Reed, who was grinding his teeth together and glaring at Wanda and Aeon.
"I've seen how this goes, throughout the Multiverse, Wanda Maximoff's evolving abilities cause nothing but disaster. Then there's what I talked about before Aeon, how fragile reality is, the changes to history, to the timeline itself and you went and added Wanda's power to the mix," he explained.
"Hey Reed calm down, we saved the day," Ben said.
"There will always be consequences to toying with reality, to trying to play god," Reed said.
The heroes looked to Aeon as he suddenly yelled, falling to his knees. Purple marks were glowing across his armour, both Steve and Tony's voices screamed as Sven's armour shattered. The two men returned, but not as they once wore. They looked over their bodies in confusion, but also intrigue. Tony carried a shield and filled out a red tactical suit with a yellow circle on the chests and highlights. His hands were covered by yellow fingerless gloves and he wore combat boots. He pulled off the cowl/helmet he wore and looked at the A symbol on it.
"I feel full, and not the 'I just ate shawarma full', what about you Cap, how are you feeling?" Tony asked.
"Lighter Tony, but heavier at the same time," Steve's voice echoed out of the helmet he wore.
He stood in a bulky suit of armour, an Iron man armour based on his star spangled colour scheme. The helmet slid apart, revealing a much thinner Steve Rogers.
"Aeon, what did you do?" Steve demanded.
Sven clutched his arm, kneeling on the floor with purple energy sparking intensively over his body.
"My powers, something's wrong with my powers," Sven said.
"Just like I said, you've both recklessly used your powers and now there are consequences," Reed said.
"Shut up Reed," Sue snapped.
He was surprised by her glare, his glasses misting up for a moment. But when he pushed them back up his nose, they revealed eyes of bitter disappointment.
"You guys don't understand the science like I do, when you toy with reality you send out ripples affecting history, affecting the barriers between worlds…and sometimes something gets through!"
Elsewhere
Disaster, it was a disaster, the volcano had gone active. Abner and his Mach team of Thunderbolts had been deployed to assist in evacuations. Zemo had the rest of the Thunderbolts on a mission in space of all places. That wasn't a great justification to the people on this island, not that the old S.H.I.E.L.D. would have bothered to help them.
"Mach 1, Mach 2, report in, why aren't you on the field?" Abner demanded.
"Mach Leader we're currently undergoing repairs, will return in five minutes," they said.
"That's five minutes some of these people don't have," Abner said.
This was a new world to him, he'd once been a thief, the first man to wear the Beetle armour. But now he was a rescue worker, leading the old Rocket men in their superior Mach suits. He had gone from a world of espionage and war to…
"What the hell," he muttered, feeling something rush past him.
There was a blur of some kind, rushing across the sea, carrying people with it. His scan of the region showed electromagnetic signals, followed by civilian heat sources disappearing. Abner flew over some of the trees, just as something teleported several people off of the island. The crowds of people were calmer now, not pushing one another to get onto the escape ships. He recognised the look in their eyes, some kind of telepathy was at work here. Then a shadow was cast over the evacuation site. Abner looked up and widened his eyes, an entire landmass of people was floating in the sky, a chunk of the island. This chunk of the island was being carried by one man, a dark haired man in a white suit. He also had a red cape and a gold belt with a 'U' symbol on it.
Abner's eyes were then drawn to the red shield on the man's chest, it was decorated by a gold bird with a halo over its head. Five more figures floated beside the man carrying his island, clearly his team mates. There was a man in a blue and silver suit, holding a rod shaped device. Then there was a man in an orange and yellow suit, his head protected by a helmet with an orange visor. Closest to the man in white was a woman with a red cape, the blue chest area of her uniform had the same symbol as the man in addition to white boots and gloves. On the leader's right was a man in a blue suit with red gloves and a cape, a domino mask covering his eyes. Finally there was the member whom floated furthest from the group, a man in a blue suit with a purple cowl, cloak and a fox pattern on his chest.
It was clear to Abner then that he was now in the world of Gods.

Ultimate Sentry
"Remember Robert, there is no Void!"
The incident occurred at the same time that the Ultimates, X-men, Defenders and Fantastic Four were in New Orleans. A separate attack on New York occurred just as the Thunderbolts were on their own mission. Streets had been flooded by creatures that police first thought were related to Venom. But when touched, the people attacked would suddenly experience their worst fears. Mariah Perry experienced a swim in shark infested waters, Daniel Caine imagined himself covered in scorpions and a great deal of other horrors flashed before the attacked eyes.
Bob Reynolds however was at work, and already experiencing his worst nightmare. The burgers were burning, he'd have to start the order again, only this was the second lot of burgers he had added to the grill.
"Hurry up Reynolds," his boss Bill told him.
Bill offered a smile to the customers in an attempt to placate their complaints. Everyone loved Bill, he was former army, lost his arm during Afghanistan. Bob had lost count of the number of times people had said 'thank you for your service', it was a double meaning and a joke he'd become tired of hearing. Bob wished he'd join the army, maybe then he'd have some respect from people.
"Reynold's focus man," Bill egged him on.
He put the burgers together, dispensed the fries and gave them to Lindy to give out.
"Rest room break boss?" he asked.
"Again…fine, but no more for the rest of the day I've got more orders to get out," Bill said.
Bob took off his apron and went to the staff toilet. He spread water across his bearded face and took a few deep breaths.
"You can do this, you can do this, just four more hours, just four more hours, you can do this, you can do this," he said.
His hands trembled, his heart was pounding and he tried to recall what his therapist said.
'Don't feed it, don't feed it, but oh god, you're such a failure, stuck here, unable to go after what you want or to live your dream, Jesus you're such a freak, go to the place, go to the place, go to your zone,' he took a few more deep breaths and closed his eyes
Figures dashed across the city, pulling people out of harms way. The dark creature's were suddenly punched so hard that they were obliterated by the sheer power of blows. Light consumed them and those saved looked towards a new hero. He flew fast and struck hard, ripping the dark creatures apart with his hands. The man shined, his long blonde hair waved with the effects of his flight. He wore a yellow suit with a blue S on the chest, a blue cape and blue boots and arm bands.
"Don't worry, the Void will not take any of you today," he said.
"Hey Sentry," a voice called.
A boy suddenly flew through the creatures, tearing through them with the speech of his flight. He wore a blue suit, yellow gloves and a yellow cape attached to a cowl that left his blonde hair exposed. Next to him though was a corgi with a yellow collar and blue cape.
"Scout, Sentry Hound, blaze a trail through the Void, my light vision has detected the Void gathering at Stark tower," the hero, the Sentry explained.
"Oh boy, are we going to team up with the Ultimates?" Scout asked and his dog barked.
"Unfortunately Earth's mightiest heroes are elsewhere, but don't worry, the Sentry family is here to protect our fine city," Sentry said.
"And the fine people in it beloved husband," a third, feminine voice signalled the new arrival.
She flew down from the sky, crashing into the void creatures and burning them. Looking as if she had come from an old comic book, she wore a yellow dress with blue gloves and a blue cloak, her eyes covered by a blue mask.
"Mrs Sentry," Sentry smiled.
"Hey stay focused love birds," Scout said.
The four shining figures flew around the city, destroying the creatures. They separated, forming lines of light across Stark tower, burning away the dark tendrils that had surrounded it. The city went dark as a creature appeared at the top of Stark tower. It roared, growing out of its back more tendrils of dark energy.
"Now beloved, you have a path," Mrs Sentry said.
"Yes, for whilst I command the power of a million exploding suns, the Void and evil itself…"
Sentry flew towards the creature grabbing it.
"WILL NEVER TRIUMPH!" with that yell he ripped the creature in two, both sides of it burning as daylight returned.
That was when Bob opened his eyes and smiled, the anxiety was buried, and he could get on with the day now. But he had a new idea, reaching into his bag he took out his notepad. Then he wrote the question to get him thinking of the next story:
Wouldn't it be great if the Sentry family teamed up with other heroes?
Spider-man: The Master of Evil
Sven looked out of the window of the Quinn-jet, feeling uneasy about the whole situation. He looked at the pad that the Ultimates had given him. It provided limited information, the biggest red flag of all. His instincts told him that there was more to the Ultimates of Amerika than they let on. Wanda was cold, Zarda was overly aggressive and Ultron was in no way similar to Vision despite basing his appearance on the android. Sven tried to access political information, free press blogging and more articles on history, but that was when the pad would block him. The only thing he could access was the information on Peter Parker and his Masters of Evil.
Porcupine, Roger Gocking, purchased the porcupine armour after the execution of the original Porcupine Alexander Gentry.
Blizzard, Donna Gill, formerly a Nova labs scientist and doctor, provided medical help to Quicksilver before she manifested Meta-magic abilities. Sources claimed that Blizzard was a split personality.
The Spot, Johnny Ohm, a scientist who worked for Fisk industries on a method of dimensional transport. His project was a life boat contingency for a potential apocalypse. But something went wrong, and he was turned into the Spot, capable of creating portals from his body.
He fascinated Sven the most, as a possible method of getting home.
Abomination, Emil Blonsky, formerly of the Russian military before he was experimented on by Gamma labs. He notably looked like the traditional green Hulk.
Jocasta, an illegal AI occupying a gold android body.
Red Cat, Natasha Romanoff, traitor of the Ultimates, traitor to Amerika, princess of Russia and a thief stealing from the lords of Amerika.
Finally there was their leader, Spider-man, Peter Parker, freed and bonded with a symbiote scheduled for termination and organised strikes against Amerikan research facilities in the West Coast.
And that was where the Ultimates were going, to the West Coast where Hawkeye's West Coast Ultimates operated.
"I see this world split the Avengers into different teams too, I'm glad Hawkeye lived up to his potential here," Aeon said.
"Potential? HA! Hawkeye's a loser in any reality, and a leader? The West Coast Ultimates were formed by Simone Williams, the Wonder Woman," Ultron said.
Aeon tilted his head in confusion, then realised it was simply another difference of the Multiverse. Maybe there were universes were Hawkeye was just a parody hero to be made fun of. Or maybe the Ultimates of this world were just pricks.
"How far are we until we reach the facility?" Aeon asked.
"Five minutes," King Amerika said.
Nova Labs facility
The air in the laboratory had gone cold. Armed guards had been reduced to shivering messes, or were nursing barb wounds. But the more aggressive protectors of the lab were still fighting. Moon Knight was a literal knight, wielding a sword and blocking ice shards with a shield. He stabbed his sword through one of Spot's portals, narrowly missing him. Above him War Machine fired multiple magical blasts from his shoulder cannons. His target, an Amalgam of Black Cat and Black Widow, dodged the blasts whilst Porcupine released a flurry of barbs that hit the armoured joints of the Ultimate. A cheetah woman roared as she ran on all fours, going towards Red Cat. Porcupine fired some of his barbs at her, but she pounced and slashed him across the throat.
"NO!" Natasha yelled.
Blizzard grit her teeth together before creating an ice sword. She clashed her weapon multiple times with Moon Knight, whilst Abomination jumped towards War Machine and clothes lined him. The female version of Williams covered herself with ionic energy, swooping towards Red Cat. A black tendril however wrapped around her, diverting her flight into one of Ohm's portals. Red Cat delivered a kick to the Cheetah woman's face, and then swept her legs up to trip her. Blizzard finally managed to knock Moon Knight's sword out of his hand, and then finished him off with a fist encased in ice.
"Roger, Roger answer me," Red Cat said.
"I'm sorry Natasha, but we have to focus on the mission, we'll see to Roger's body later," Spider-man said.
"Unlikely," a voice said from the doorway.
King Amerika led his Ultimates into the chamber, followed by Aeon. The lenses of Spider-man's mask widened as they often did when he was shocked. Aeon looked towards the dead Porcupine, and noted the care Red Cat was putting into him. He then looked between the Ultimates and the Masters of Evil. Spider-man glared at King Amerika, shaping part of his costume into a shield. Blizzard gathered ice in her hand whilst Green Sorceress created glowing hex symbols.
"Take them down hard," Rogers commanded.
Ultron fired his eye beams, and Black Cat jumped out of the path. Abomination rushed forward, punching Ultron through the wall. Blizzard and Green Sorceress unleashed their powers, the beams they created collided and spread shards of ice and sparks of electricity through the lab. King Amerika and Spider-man ran towards one another, Peter pulling himself into a jump with his webs, Rogers dragged his sword against his shield. As soon as Peter landed he tried to whip Rogers with one of his tendrils, but the king slashed it apart and began swinging his sword at his enemy.
"Johnny, Natasha, focus on the mission," Spider-man called to his allies.
The Spot created a portal through the armoured door behind him, a door Natasha quickly jumped through. Warrior Woman jumped through after her, brandishing her swords. Natasha narrowly avoided a slash and jumped back, avoiding blows that would have crushed her. Aeon watched the fight between King Amerika and Spider-man, noting the differing fighting styles. One was savage and cruel, the other disciplined and careful. The symbiote was not monstrous or berserk, Peter still retained his nimble and thin form. King Amerika slashed Peter across his shoulder and tried to stab him with his sword. Peter however was able to wrap his tendrils around the hilt of the sword. He pulled the blade from Rogers's grip and then punched him in the face.
"Surrender," Peter said.
"We never surrender, that is why I am king now," Rogers spat.
A blast suddenly slammed into Peter's back. Vibranium Man hovered over the floor, and then released a sonic blast from his chest. The symbiote and its host screamed, Peter fell to his knees and released Rogers's sword. King Amerika picked up the blade and swung it, hitting Peter's face with the flat of it.
"Help me," Peter said to Aeon.
"They're planning on enslaving us all," King Amerika said.
"They're refugees," Peter retorted before Rogers threw him against the wall.
Aeon looked to the blast door, just as it was broken off of the wall. Red Cat was back first on top of it, clutching the slash wound on her side. He looked past Warrior Woman's shoulder, there was another blast door behind her. Moving forward in a burst of speed, he went past Zarda and pushed his hand against the door. Red markings spread across the door and he closed his eyes, feeling the souls trapped on the other side. There was fear in their hearts, some anger too, but not the ambition that King Amerika claimed. Aeon's eyes widened as he saw inside the cell, huddled together in a cramped condition were Skrulls, Kree, Shiar and even Brood, aliens of different species. With glowing red eyes he turned to King Amerika, who raised his blade at Peter.
"Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," he suddenly said and both Peter and King Amerika blinked in confusion.
"Personally I hated both films, taking characters of old and putting them in different directions, I mean sure it added some humanity to the character, that I liked…I thought the second film would see her finally take up her old moniker of Mistress of Evil, one of the worst of the worst of Disney villains," Aeon explained.
"Reilly, what are you babbling about?" King Amerika asked.
"Don't worry, there is a point to this, after I watched the film I realised what they had done, made her the hero of course. The title of the film had a different meaning, she was called Mistress of Evil because she shackled and defeated it. Which brings me to Spider-man and his merry band, the Masters of Evil; not because they are evil, but because evil fears them doesn't it?" Aeon demanded, pointing his finger at Rogers.
The king glared, lowering his sword and turning to face Aeon.
"So you're just like this world's version then, a bleeding hearted fool sympathetic to disgusting aliens," he spat in disgust and then raised his sword in a stance.
"Thanks for not putting much effort into the deception, your majesty," Aeon slammed his fist into the palm of his hand, and prepared to fight.
Next Civil War of Amerika
Hope everyone enjoyed the chapters. So developments: Wanda is (for now) the new Sorcerer Supreme, with Dr Strange Junior's fate being the point of future chapters, Iron man and Cap have switched power sets leading into a story arc to further explore and develop the two characters. And exposure to the Dark dimension has altered Aeon's powers, leading into the next chapter.
And the final development, the members of the Union, of the Jupiter's Circle series (spun off of Jupiter's Legacy). An upcoming arc will see the Union and the Ultimates (both being creations of Mark Millar) face off.
Ultimate Sentry: The Sentry family will appear again, the idea coming from the most recent Sentry series, with a mind bending twist.
Next time Aeon's adventure in Amerika continues.
