The gang were chasing a Beedrill in Viridian Forest, but they somehow lost it.
"Dang it, I lost it." Ash sighed in disappointment
"Cheer up, Ash, there's always another chance for you to catch a Beedrill." Mallow said
"Yeah, you're right, thanks for the vote of confidence." Ash smiled
"What a relief." Misty sighed, happy that Ash didn't catch a Beedrill
The gang continued their way through Viridian Forest
"Wah!" Mallow exclaimed as she slipped on a banana peel & fell on her back
"Whoa, Mallow, are you okay?" Ash asked
"Yeah, I'm fine." Mallow said
"Aipom Aipom!" A voice laughed
The gang looked up & saw a purple monkey-like Pokémon with a three-fingered hand at the end of its tail.
"What's that?" Ash said as Dex scanned the Pokémon
Aipom, the Long Tail Pokémon, a Normal Type. Aipom's tail ends in a hand-like appendage that can be cleverly manipulated. However, because the Pokémon uses its tail so much, its real hands have become rather clumsy.
"Aipom Aipom Aipom!" Aipom laughed
"Hey, that wasn't funny, someone could've gotten seriously hurt." Ash called out
"Pom." Aipom said as it stuck out its tongue
"So, that's how you wanna play? Aura Anubis, I choose you!" Ash said as he sent out Aura Anubis
"Riolu!" Aura said
"Use Vacuum Wave." Ash said. Aura fired a beam of wind from his hands
Aipom jumped, dodged the attack, & kicked Aura. Then It charged with its hand-like tail became surrounded by yellow electricity
"Use Ice Punch." Ash said. Aura's fist become surrounded by icy blue aura & clashed with Aipom
"Now, Force Palm." Riolu's other paw turned light blue & struck Aipom's chest, releasing a burst of blue energy
Aipom fired an orb of blue water from its hands
"Dodge that Water Pulse & use Copycat."
Aura dodged the attack, became surrounded by blue aura, & fired Water Pulse
"Aipom!" Aipom said as it glowed white, created multiple copies of itself, & avoided the attack
"Here's a move that won't miss, use Aura Sphere." Ash said. Riolu fired a blue sphere of aura & hit the real Aipom.
"Now, Go Level Ball!"
Ash threw a Level Ball at Aipom & caught it

"Eek! Another Bug!" Misty shrieked as she ran away
Ash & Mallow looked & saw a tan worm-like Pokémon with a pink nose & a stinger on its head
"It's a Weedle." Ash said as Dex scanned the Pokémon
Weedle, the Hairy Bug, a Bug & Poison Type. Weedle has an extremely acute sense of smell. It is capable of distinguishing its favorite kinds of leaves from those it dislikes just by sniffing with its big red proboscis
"It may not be a Beedrill, but it's close." Ash said "Valiant, I choose you!"
Ash sent out Valiant
"Pidgey." Valiant chirped
Meanwhile Misty was walking to find a way out of the forest
"Geez, what's with all the bugs in this forest?" Misty said frustratingly
"Hiyah!" A boy with a samurai outfit & a bug catching net yelled as he stuck a sword in front of her face
"Hey! Watch it with that sword!" Misty exclaimed
"Greetings, young maiden, are you by any chance a Pokémon Trainer that comes from Pallet Town." The boy asked
"N-no." Misty stuttered
"My mistake." The boy said as he walked away
"First bugs, now a samurai, this day keeps getting weirder." Misty said before realizing "Wait a minute, oh no, Ash!"
(Back with Ash & Mallow)
"Valiant, use Aerial Ace." Ash said. Valiant became surrounded by light blue streaks & tackled the Weedle "Go Poké Ball!"
Ash threw a Poké Ball at Weedle & caught it

Known Moves: Poison Sting, String Shot, Bug Bite, & Electroweb
After Weedle got sent to Cerise
"Pidgey!" Valiant said as he glowed bluish white & evolved into Pidgeotto
"Awesome, now I have two Pidgeottos" Ash said amazingly
After Valiant evolved into Pidgeotto, Ash decided to switch out Valiant & Fist Tail for Blue Cerberus & Boss Crow.
"Hiyah!" The boy from before yelled as he stuck his sword in front of Ash's face
"Whoa!" Ash shouted
"Greeting, are you a Pokémon Trainer from Pallet Town?" The boy asked
"Uh, yeah." Ash replied
"Ah, I have found you at last, I'm Samurai & I've been searching for you to challenge you in a 6 on 6 Pokémon Battle." Samurai said
"Oh, okay." Ash said
"Ash!" Misty called out as she ran towards them "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, this guy just challenged me to a Pokémon Battle." Ash said
Ash & Samurai got into battle position
"Go Kakuna!" Samurai said as he sent out a yellow cocoon-like Pokémon
"Kakuna?" Ash said as Dex scanned the Pokémon
Kakuna, the Cocoon Pokémon, a Bug & Poison Type, & the evolved form of Weedle. Kakuna remains virtually immobile as it clings to a tree. However, on the inside, it is extremely busy as it prepares for its coming evolution. This is evident from how hot the shell becomes to the touch.
"Boss Crow, I choose you!" Ash said as he sent out Boss Crow
"Murkrow." Boss Crow cawed
"Now, let's see who triumphs." Samurai said
ASH VS SAMURAI
"Use Poison Sting." Samurai said. Kakuna fired multiple light purple darts
"Use Night Shade." Ash said. Crow fired a dark crimson beam from it eyes which collided with Poison Sting
"Now, Aerial Ace."
Crow became surrounded by light blue streaks & tackled Kakuna which caused it to faint.
"Return." Samurai said as he returned Kakuna "Go Metapod!"
Samurai sent out his Metapod
"Metapod." Metapod said
"Boss Crow, return." Ash said as he returned Boss Crow "Cerberus, I choose you!"
Ash sent out Blue Cerberus
"Houn." Cerberus barked
"Metapod, Harden." Samurai said as Metapod briefly turned light blue
"Use Flamethrower." Ash said. Cerberus shot blue fire from his mouth & hit Metapod which caused it to faint
"Metapod, return." Samurai said as he returned Metapod "You're good, but that was just a warm up. How about we change it up & make it a double battle?"
"Now, we're talking." Ash said excitedly as he returned Blue Cerberus
"Go Scyther & Pinsir!" Samurai said as he sent out a a green mantis-like Pokémon with scythe-like arms & a dull brown insectoid Pokémon with a large pair of gray, spiky pincers on top of its head
"Scyther." The first Pokémon said
"Pinsir." The second Pokémon said as Dex scanned the Pokédex
Scyther, the Mantis Pokémon, a Bug & Flying Type. Scyther is blindingly fast. Its blazing speed enhances the effectiveness of the twin scythes on its forearms. This Pokémon's scythes are so effective, they can slice through thick logs in one wicked stroke.
Pinsir, the Stag Beetle Pokémon, a Bug Type. Pinsir has a pair of massive horns. Protruding from the surface of these horns are thorns. These thorns are driven deeply into the foe's body when the pincer closes, making it tough for the foe to escape.
"Hesper, Lyca, I choose you!" Ash said as he sent out Hesper & Lyca
"Metapod." Hesper & Lyca said
Suddenly they heard buzzing
"Oh no, our match must end" Samurai said as he returned his Scyther & Pinsir
Just then, A group of Beedrill appeared
"It's a Beedrill swarm." Ash said as Dex scanned the Beedrill
Beedrill, the Poison Bee Pokémon, A Bug & Poison Type, & the evolved form of Kakuna. Beedrill are extremely territorial. If angered, they will attack in a furious swarm. It has three poisonous stingers on its forelegs and its tail. They are used to jab its enemy repeatedly.
"The Beedrill we were chasing must have told its friends." Mallow said
Two of the Beedrill swooped down, took Lyca & Hesper, & flew away.
"Lyca! Hesper!" Ash exclaimed before the swarm surrounded them "Pikachu, use Electroweb."
Pikachu released a web of yellow electricity which surrounded the gang, protected them from the Beedrill, shocked the Beedrill, & caused them to faint
"We've gotta get outta here." Misty said as the Electroweb disappeared
"Bee!" A giant-sized Beedrill with a scar over one eye confronted them
"Aaaagh!" Misty screamed in fright
"Wow, that's the biggest Beedrill I've ever seen." Mallow said surprisingly
"It must be the leader." Samurai said
The giant Beedrill hit Pikachu with Aerial Ace.
"You alright, Pikachu?" Ash asked
"Pika." Pikachu said as he shook it off
Then the Giant Beedrill charged at Pikachu with X-Scissor
"Dodge it, & use Iron Tail." Ash said. Pikachu dodged the attack with its tail glowing white & hit the Giant Beedrill
The Giant Beedrill fired Pin Missile
"Use Thunderbolt."
"Pika CHUUUUUUU!" Pikachu said as he fired a bolt of yellow electricity which collided with the Pin Missile
The Giant Beedrill charged at Pikachu with Poison Jab
"Surf." Ash said
"Pikaaaaa!" Pikachu said as he summoned a huge tidal wave & wiped out the Giant Beedrill as it became wet & had trouble flying
"Volt Tackle."
Pikachu became surrounded by golden electricity & tackled the Giant Beedrill
"Go Timer Ball!" Ash said as he threw a Timer Ball at the Giant Beedrill & caught it

After the Giant Beedrill got sent to Professor Cerise, another swarm of Beedrill appeared
"More Beedrill are coming!" Dex exclaimed in panic
"this way!" Samurai said as he & the gang ran away
Everyone ran from the Beedrill & hid in the bushes
"I think we're safe." Mallow said
"Not yet." Samurai said as he pointed at a hive of Kakuna
"Uh Oh." Misty said as she shivered in fear
"Be quiet, if they catch you they might evolve into Beedrill." Samurai said
"Ash, look." Mallow said
Ash looked & saw a Shiny Kakuna in front of him. He pulled out a Premier Ball & caught it
Gender: Female
Ability: Shed Skin
Known Moves: Poison Sting, String Shot, Bug Bite, Electroweb, & Iron Defense
Then he noticed Lyca & Hesper at the tree with the Kakuna
"Lyca & Hesper are there, I'm gonna go get them." Ash whispered as he snuck towards Lyca & Hesper
When Ash got close to Lyca & Hesper
"Achoo!" Mallow sneezed
The Kakuna noticed the gang after hearing Mallow sneeze, then the Kakuna's backs slitted opened & a bluish white light came out as they evolved into Beedrill
"We gotta go now!" Samurai said as he & the gang ran off again
Soon they made it to Samurai's cabin
"I hope you're happy with what you've done, novice." Samurai said in disappointment
"What? What are you talking about?" Ash said
"You almost cost our lives, letting that Beedrill escape & you abandoned your own Metapod." Samurai said
"Hey, at least I tried to save Lyca & Hesper." Ash argued
"That's right, he didn't mean to leave them there." Mallow said
"Also he wouldn't purposely abandon his Pokémon." Misty said
"Lyca & Hesper will pay for your inexperience." Samurai said "The other Trainers from Pallet Town would never have been so irresponsible."
"You mean you fought Gary & Ritchie?" Ash asked
"Yes, they really knew how to raise Pokémon. I've been inspired to redouble my training & prepare to beat the next trainer from Pallet Town. Compared to those two, you are a joke." Samurai said
THUD!
Mallow & Misty became surprised as Ash lifted Samurai by the shirt & pinned him against the wall
"You think you know me, Samurai? Guess what, you don't know anything about me. I would never ever hurt my Pokémon & I would always come back for them if they've left behind. So don't ever jump to conclusions & call me a bad trainer" Ash glared angrily at him as dropped him on the ground & walked away
At night, everyone was asleep as Ash was sad about his Metapods, he then leaves the cabin
"Ash?" A voice said
Ash turned & saw Mallow & Dex
"Where are you going?" Mallow said
"I'm going back to rescue Lyca & Hesper." Ash said
"Well, let me help you." Mallow said
"No, this is something I have to do on my own, I'm the one who left them behind & I'm coming back for them." Ash said
"Okay." Mallow understood as she hugged him "Be safe out there."
"Don't worry, I will, thank you for sticking up for me." Ash said "You're the best girlfriend."
"I try." Mallow smiled before kissing his lips as he left with Dex
Ash & Dex were one their way to find Lyca & Hesper.
"They've got to be around somewhere." Ash said
"Hoothoot." A voice said
"Huh?" Ash said as he looked up & saw a small brown owl-like Pokémon with red eyes. "What's that?"
Hoothoot, the Owl Pokémon, a Normal & Flying Type. Hoothoot has an internal organ that senses and tracks the earth's rotation. Using this special organ, this Pokémon begins hooting at precisely the same time every day.
"Hoothoot is a nocturnal Pokémon, maybe it can help us find Lyca & Hesper." Dex said
"Good idea." Ash said "Hoothoot."
"Hoot?" Hoothoot said as it looked at Ash
"Have you seen two Metapods at a tree with a hive of Kakuna?" Ash asked "If you do, can you take us there?"
"Hoothoot." Hoothoot nodded
The next morning, Misty, Mallow, & Samurai woke up
"Morning." Misty said as Samurai noticed Ash was gone
"Where is your friend?" Samurai asked
"He went back to get Lyca & Hesper back." Mallow said
Meanwhile Team Rocket were in a paper cardboard tank
"Jessie, remind me why we're dragging this talk around." James said
"I told you, it's to protect us from Beedrill, ever been stung by one?" Jessie sad
"Smoochum." Smoochum agreed as she was on Jessie's shoulder
"No, but I heard it hurts like heck." James said "Meowth, would you mind helping us?"
"I would, but I'm hitching a ride." Meowth said
"Well quit hitching & get off, you're putting weight on the tank." Jessie said irritably as they knocked Meowth off
"Hey!" Meowth called out as he went after them
Meanwhile, Ash, Dex, & Hoothoot found the Kakuna along with Lyca & Hesper
"There they are." Ash said as he slowly went to the Metapod "Hesper, Lyca, come one you two, let's get you out of here."
"Metapod." Lyca & Hesper refused
"What? But you guys, I—." Ash said
"Well, hello there, twerp." Jessie said
"You guys again?" Ash said
"Why yes, we're back for your Pokémon." James said
"Look, I don't have time for you guys, could you please keep it down before you wake the Beedrill?" Ash said
But it was too late, the Beedrill woke up & prepared to attack
"Oh no." Ash said as he grabbed Lyca & Hesper & ran off with Dex & Hoothoot "Sorry, but we gotta go."
"So do we." Meowth said as Team Rocket put their tank on & ran off
(With Ash)
"Listen, you two, I know that you're upset, but I didn't mean to abandon you." Ash said before he tripped & fell on the grass "It's my fault, if I was a better Pokémon Trainer I wouldn't have left you. I'm sorry, I promise I'll never run away & leave you guys behind."
"Ash, watch out!" Mallow cried as she, Misty, & Samurai were in a protective net
A Beedrill came & was about to attack Ash, but Hesper & Lyca tackled the Beedrill breaking its stingers & getting gashes.
"Lyca, Hesper, are you two okay?" Ash said worriedly
Just then bluish white lights came out from the gashes as they evolved into purple butterfly-like Pokémon
"Free Free." Lyca & Hesper said
"They evolved." Ash said as Dex scanned Lyca & Hesper
Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokémon, a Bug & Flying Type, & the evolved form of Metapod. Butterfree has a superior ability to search for delicious honey from flowers. It can even search out, extract, and carry honey from flowers that are blooming over six miles from its nest.

Learned Moves: Confusion, Stun Spore, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, Psybeam, Silver Wind, Safeguard, Air Cutter, Aerial Ace, & Signal Beam
"The female Butterfree has black spots on her lower wings." Dex said
"Wow, they're so pretty." Misty said
"Here comes more." Samurai said as more Beedrill came
"Lyca, Hesper, Sleep Powder." Ash said
"Freeee." Lyca & Hesper said as they released blankets of light green spores from their wings which put the Beedrill to sleep
After they got away from the sleeping Beedrill
"Ash, I'm sorry for what I said to you, I was wrong, you're a great trainer." Samurai apologized
"It's alright, sorry I was rough on you yesterday." Ash said before he was tackled to the ground in a hug by Mallow
"I was so worried about you." Mallow said
"It's okay, take it easy, Mallow." Ash said
Misty smiled, but then she noticed a female Buttefree flying by. She stuck out her arm & the Butterfree landed on it
"Hello there, beautiful." Misty said
"Free." The female Butterfree said
Misty pulled out a Net Ball & caught the Female Butterfree with it
"Misty, you caught a Butterfree." Ash said amazingly
"I did, like I said, I like Water Type & cute Pokémon." Misty smiled
"Ash, I have a request." Samurai said
"What's that?" Ash asked
"I wish to travel with you on your journey." Samurai said
"Why's that?" Ash said surprisingly
"I want to learn from you about taking care of my Pokémon & become a great Bug Type Samurai Trainer, so I think it's time for me to leave Viridian Forest & travel." Samurai said
"In that case, welcome to the gang." Ash accepted
"Thank you, If it helps, I'll be honored to be your training partner & advisor." Samurai said
"That sounds good." Ash said
"Great, more Bugs." Misty groaned as everyone laughed
"Hoothoot." Hoothoot said as it flew & landed on Ash's head
"Thanks for helping us out, Hoothoot." Ash said
"Hoot." Hoothoot said as it went to Ash's bag & pulled out a Poké Ball
"Oh, you wanna come with me." Ash said as he took the Poké Ball
"Hoothoot." Hoothoot nodded
"Welcome to the team." Ash said
"Hoot." Hoothoot said as it tapped the Poké Ball & became captured

After Hoothoot got transported to Cerise, the gang continued their way to Pewter City as the Pokémon who was spying on Ash in Viridian City was still spying on them
"Cleffa." The Pokémon said

"I think we lost them." Jessie said
"Hey, look." Meowth said as he pointed at a Butterfree & Beedrill flying by
"We capture those two for ourselves." James said
"Smoochum, Sing." Jessie said
"Smoochum Smoochum." Smoochum sang as multicolored music notes came out of her mouth & the Butterfree & Beedrill fell asleep
"Go Poké Balls." Jessie & James said as they threw 2 Poké Balls at the Pokémon
Jessie caught the Butterfree & James caught the Beedrill
(At George's Island Prison)
George had just finished building a raft
"Now, I can escape this island & get my revenge." George smirked evilly
He pushed the raft into the water, but when his feet touched the water
"Hold it right there!" A guard shouted as several other guards surrounded George
"Oh no." George said as the guards began to pummel him
(At Pewter City)
A girl with dark blue hair & dark blue eyes, wearing a leather jacket-styled outfit was waiting at the Pewter City Pokémon Center with a blue Penguin-like Pokémon
"Won't be long til they're here, Piplup" the girl said
"Piplup." The Pokémon chirped
