Chapter 11: Peaceful Moments and Confessions

One week had passed since the incident with the White Fang and things are starting to calm down a bit. Now Team NFSS dorm Fū starts a conversation.
"Man last week was crazy!" Fū says.
"It had a lot of drama." Sasuke says.
"That you missed. I swear you are becoming more like Kakashi-sensei." Naruto says.
"Shut up." Sasuke says.
"Still I think one of the more surprising things to come out of the past week is learning you had a brother Naruto." Sai says.
"Really?" Naruto asks.
"Yes." Sai begins to explain. "The way you act it made it seem you were an only child."
"So why did you never bring it up before?" Fū asks.
"Between homework and training it just never came up." Naruto explains. "But that does sound like a good think to talk about. Sasuke you go next."
"Why do I need to say anything?" Sasuke asks.
"I already know your brother Itachi, so explain away!" Naruto says.
Sasuke sighs. "Fine. Itachi is a Specialist in the Atlas Military." Sasuke says.
"He must be quite skilled if he has that rank." Sai says.
"He is." Sasuke confirms.
"What about you Sai any siblings?" Fū asks.
"I have a brother named Shin, though we're not related by blood." Sai says.
"You too must have a really close bond despite not being related." Naruto comments as Sai simply nods his head.
"What about you Fū any siblings?" Sai asks.
Fū pauses for a moment looking sad. "I have a sister that I called Em. But I don't know where she is right now." Fū admits.
Sai raises an eyebrow. "Why not?" He asks.
This is when Naruto jumps in noticing Fū's discomfort. "You see Sai, roughly seven years ago Fū and I where basically kidnapped for about six months." Naruto begins to explain as Sai's eyes widen. "It was most likely because of the Grimm inside us, not that we knew at the time, at least I assume so. Unfortunately I'm not sure how the kidnapping actually occurred, in my case I was asleep one night and the next thing I knew I woke up in a weird room away from my family."
"The same thing happened to me. The difference is that she and I are orphans, so finding information about her isn't easy." Fū says.
"I'm sorry." Sai says. "So this happened to others." Sai asks.
"Yeah, though I would say that Naruto, Fū, and Sha were pretty lucky to come out somewhat normal." Sasuke says.
"Sasuke." Naruto says looking at with a slight glare.
"It's true." Sasuke begins explaining. "You remember how crazy Gaara was before you beat some sense into him."
"Is Gaara the Number 1 you mentioned before Naruto?" Fū asks.
"Yes." Naruto begins to explain. "He's better now, so don't worry about it."
"So we have Naruto as 9, Fū as 7, this Gaara person as 1, and Sha is an unknown." Sai then get questioning look. "If you were all kidnapped together how come you all acted like strangers to each other?" Sai asks Naruto.
"Its because none of us have met until now." Fū now decides to answer. "I think they kept us separated to limit the damage from our Grimm should we go out of control."
Sai nods as that explanation makes sense to him. At first he though Naruto was exaggerating a bit when he said if the Grimm inside them got out Vale could be destroyed. But having witnessed the power Naruto obtained from that cloak, the damage it did to the port, and if his assumption was correct that was only a small piece of the power. Then it could certainly destroy Vale, perhaps even more.
"So what's does our schedule look like today?" Naruto asks. Despite this being a Saturday all of the students have to take at least one class on today.
"Well me an Fū have Port, while you and Sai have Greene." Sasuke says.
"Yes!" Naruto cheers.
"Why are you so happy?" Fū asks.
"Professor Greene is the best teacher here." Naruto explains. "Her lessons are awesome."
"Her lessons are very practical." Sai says also approving of her class.
"Don't you and Sai still have a project to do for her?" Fū asks while Naruto raises an eyebrow in confusion.
"Fū's right." Sasuke begins to say. "It's May 1st, the semester is almost over. We all need to get our school work together."
"The topic was identifying weaknesses of existing buildings and how to later improve on them." Sai reminds Naruto.
"Oh that's what you are talking about." Naruto says. "We finished that a month ago and handed it in."
"WHAT!" Sasuke and Fū shout.
"What did you do for that project?" Fū asks.
Naruto then smirks. "We did Beacon Academy as our topic." Naruto clarifies.
"How and when did you have time to do something against Beacon? There's no way you did this with out me or Fū knowing." Sasuke asks sill not comprehending how his friend did something that grand a scale with out his or Fū's knowledge.
"Who says you didn't know?" Naruto says to Sasuke and Fū's confusion. "My pranking spree last month wasn't just for fun, it was the foundation for my project. Though it was still fun to mess with everyone!" Naruto clarifies to Sasuke and Fū who have their mouths open in shock.
"B-but you pranked Sai as well!" Fū says not believing what she was hearing.
"Sai was in on it as well. That's why all he got was his pens being replaced with crayons." Sasuke figures out.
"Guilty as charged." Sai says with a smile.
"If that's true then you two could've gotten expelled. How did you manage to avoid that?" Fū asks.
Naruto smirks. "We actually played around the rules a bit. Since this was for an assignment and I think it would help Beacon in the long term Professor Greene probably defended me and Sai." Naruto explains.
"You two are crazy." Sasuke says.
"Well our break is almost over time to head to class." Naruto says as they exit the dorms.

Team RWBY Dorm

At end of the day in Team Ruby's dorm we have Ruby resting, Blake nowhere to be seen and Weiss who is sitting on a desk by the window starting a conversation with Yang.
"Yang." Weiss says to get Yang's attention.
"What is it Weiss? You look so serious." Yang asks.
"I wanted to talk to you about something. You're the only one I can talk to about this." Weiss says.
"What is it?" Yang asks.
"It's about Blake." Weiss begins saying. "I feel like Blake has been avoiding me. In fact I feel certain of it."
"Weiss." Yang says listening to Weiss.
"She would stay in the room before. But now she's out all the time." Weiss begins explaining. "We see each other in class, but that's it. I don't even know when she comes back at night. Ever since last week I feel like she has changed. If she doesn't like me I wish she would tell me."
Weiss takes a few moments before talking again. "I'm sure you know that I can be a little difficult sometimes. That's why I wanted your advice. Do you think I should be direct with her?" Weiss asks at the end.
"Hmm." Yang hums thinking.
"I'm sorry to lay this on you so suddenly. I know it's not such an easy issue." Weiss says.
"No that's not it, I just think you have it wrong." Yang says.
"What?" Weiss says.
Yang explains. "Blake hasn't changed. She's always preferred being alone. She wanders off all the time. It's not Blake that's changed it's you Weiss."
"Me?" Weiss questions.
"Yeah." Yang begins saying. "It's not that Blake's become more aware of your presence. I think you've become more aware of hers." Yang says to Weiss's surprise. "Maybe you're noticing things you didn't before because you're overly conscious of her. Last week must have made you really consider different things, but you will have to thing carefully about how you answer those feelings."
Weiss smiles at Yang's explanation. "Thank you Yang."
Normally this would end a conversation but Yang seems has something else in mind. "That is what I would've liked to say but…" Yang says as she moves to a closet.
"Huh?" Weiss says not understanding Yang's actions.
"I don't know if the timing is good or bad, but I was actually just talking to Blake about you." Yang tells Weiss as she shows Blake in the closet.
"Blake!" Weiss says not expecting Blake to be hiding there.
"Weiss." Yang says. "Blake said she feels like she's being watched by you lately. Now that you're both here how about you both talk about it?"
Blake then moves in front of Weiss. "Can I ask why you're more conscious of me?" Blake asks.
Weiss takes a breath before answering. "My feelings about Faunus have been at the very least complicated. So I never had a clear look before now." Weiss says as Blake grips her arm nervously. "So I guess I must've been following you with my eyes. Those ears you keep hidden all the time, may I take a look?"
"What?" Blake says with a light blush as she removes her bow and bends down to show her cat ears to Weiss. Weiss looks at the ears and sees them twitching. "Do you want to touch them?" Blake asks.
"May I?" Weiss asks as well.
"I like having my ears touched." Blake admits as Weiss begins to touch them. "I'm happy that all the staring was just about an interest in me."
'Yang was right. It wasn't Blake that changed, it was me.' Weiss thinks as she smiles. "I never knew they're so soft and warm all the way to the edge." Weiss says touching Blake's ears. Yang then laughs at the sight much to embarrassment of Weiss and Blake.
What's so funny Yang?" Weiss asks.
Yang smiles. "We should go get pizza tonight." Yang says.
"Pizza?" Weiss says in confusion.
"What brought that up?" Blake asks?"
"That's the slogan for Vale's best pizza parlor 'Soft and warm all the way to the edge'." Yang says.
"Pizza sounds great!" Weiss, Blake, and Yang turn to see that Ruby woke up.
"When did you wake up Ruby?" Yang asks.
"I was up for the ending part of the conversation and seeing Weiss pet Blake." Ruby admits much to the embarrassment of the mentioned two. "Through the whole ordeal last week and what Weiss said now has made me think about something."
"What is it?" Weiss asks.
"How exactly did you become friends with Naruto to begin with?" Ruby asks.
"That's an interesting topic." Yang begins to say. "You two seem very close."
"I've been questioning that for awhile as well." Blake admits.
Weiss is silent for a moment. "That is quite the story, considering under normal circumstances I should have never met someone like Naruto to begin with." Weiss says.
"So what happened?" Ruby, Blake, and Yang ask.
Weiss starts her story. "Well it happened when I was 12 and it was a about two weeks before my 13th birthday. My mother who wasn't feeling the best so she couldn't show up. On the other hand my father wanted to use my birthday as a way to talk to more business associates, so he wouldn't watch over me."
"That's terrible." Ruby says worrying about Weiss's mom and about Weiss.
"That's disgusting. What kind of father does that?" Yang says already having distain for Weiss's father considering how she and Ruby were basically raised by a single father with some assistance from their uncle.
Blake has an angry look in her eyes but doesn't say anything knowing it would interfere with the story.
"I know." Weiss says before continuing with the story. "Anyway, as insurance my father wanted Sasuke's brother Itachi to guard me during that time in case something happened. However, Itachi wasn't able to come over due to having a mission from the Atlas Military. Afterwards they tried to get Obito Uchiha to help watch over me."
"Obito Uchiha. Is he related to Sasuke and Itachi?" Ruby asks.
"They have the same last name, but the relation isn't a close one like a father or an uncle, he's more of a distant relative." Weiss begins to explain. "He's an old friend of my mother and I have interacted with him in my childhood on an infrequent basis. Though if I'm being honest he has been more of a father figure then my actual one." Weiss admits
"I take it he wasn't able to show up either." Blake says.
Weiss nods. "Unfortunately, but he had his own issues do deal with being in charge of a tech company. So with great reluctance my father had to pay a big sum of Lien to Vacuo in order to get Sasuke to come back to Atlas. In the end Sasuke did come back, but he came back with his Team at the time. Their leader Kakashi, Sakura, and Naruto."
"So that's how you two meet." Yang says.
"Yes. However, back then my attitude towards Faunus was worse then it was now and I down right hated them." Weiss pause the story to look at Blake. "I was a bit of a brat then so when I give descriptions of my past interactions with Naruto please don't get offended too much." Weiss asks Blake.
"I'll try." Blake says knowing that this might be difficult to hear.
"Anyway for a majority of the time despite calling Sasuke being the intended guardian it was Naruto that interacted with me the most and he was persistent. I never interacted with a Faunus before so when I met Naruto I was a bit curious, but at the same time he really tried to get closer to me. He would call me Princess, he would prank me, and he had almost no self-control over his actions."
Weiss pauses before continuing. "I thought he was completely annoying. I compared him to a parasite and called him names like a filthy beast." Weiss pauses see Blake's momentary glare before continuing. "But even then he stuck around and wanted to get close. It was very weird and I didn't understand his reasoning. Then it was a day before my birthday party and I thought he was being particularly annoying or perhaps it was just my feeling of annoyance getting pushed over the edge. Either way it lead me to say a particular insult to him and that's when things got tense. Gone was the energetic happy boy and in his place a calm angry teen that looked ready to hit me. It was the first time I was actually afraid of him. He placed his wrapped gift for me on the floor said something and ran away."
"What did you say to him?" Ruby asks.
"I'd rather not say, but it involved his family." Weiss says wiping a tear from her eye recalling the regret. "I didn't realize my why insult hurt him so much until Kakashi told that his mother died three years ago, though now it would seven or eight years ago." Weiss said to the surprise of her teammates.
"Whoa." Was all Yang could say.
"I wanted to apologize, so I searched for him, eventually I found him near a tree outside my house. I believed I heard him crying and I wanted to talk to him, but I didn't."
"Why didn't you?" Blake asks.
"It was because he still had that fierce felling around and back then I saw wisps of red Aura or whatever that was." Weiss says as her teammates eyes widen. "So out of fear I ran away. Then my birthday arrived and well I haven't had a happy birthday in a long time, but it was the first time I had a feeling that I knew I did something wrong and I wasn't sure how to make it right."
"What about the gift Naruto gave you?" Ruby asks.
"I was getting to that." Weiss said. "I unwrapped Naruto's gift and it was a necklace."
"Naruto got you jewelry for your birthday." Yang says not expecting that.
"Where is that necklace now?" Blake asks.
Weiss smiles. "I'm wearing it now." She says touching the jewelry on her neck.
"Really, it's more normal then I thought." Blake says surprised.
"I understand what your saying Blake." Weiss says before continuing. "I grew up surrounded by wealth and many people had given me more expensive gifts trying to impress my family or me. Naruto got me this necklace simply because he thought it would look nice on me. So I wore it during the party and when we saw each other he looked surprised then looked happy afterwards and when he and his team had to go back to Vacuo he just smiled and waved to me like he forgave me. Then before I knew it this necklace became one of my most important possessions and part of my daily attire. That's how we met and how Naruto made me question my initial thoughts on Faunus." Weiss finishes her story.
'That story sounds like something from a romance novel.' Blake thinks.
"That's a great story." Ruby says.
"Wow." Yang says with a pause. "That sounds like one of those movies with forbidden lovers." Yang says with no restraint.
"Don't be stupid Yang!" Weiss says as she blushes. "Naruto is just a good friend."
"Right." Yang says having some doubts.
Knock
Knock
Team RWBY hears a knock on their door. They open the door to see Teams NFSS and JNPR in the hall.
"Hey guys what are you all doing here?" Ruby asks
"Well everyone on my team had a bit of a pizza craving tonight so I figured lets invite our friends to join us to Vale's best pizza parlor. Are you all interested?" Naruto asks.
"Huh, that's an interesting coincidence we were planning to get pizza too." Yang says.
"Sure we'll join you." Weiss says before the three teams leave to have a pizza night.

Team NFSS Dorm

After the pizza night Team JNPR went back to their dorm while Team RWBY decided to go to Team NFSS's dorm. It was time to get some answers about what happened last week.
"So any particular reason you wanted to be in our dorm?" Sasuke asks.
"Naruto it's time you kept your promised to tell us what happened last week." Weiss says as the rest of Team RWBY also looks with interest.
"I guess I did promise." Naruto sighs. "So what do you want to hear?" He asks.
"What happened to you during that fight? What was with that Cloak?" Weiss asks.
"That makes sense." Naruto says. "But before I tell you four this I need you all to promise me that whatever is said in this room must a secret. I mean it, you can't tell anyone without our permission. That's how important this is." Naruto says in the most serious voice Team RWBY has heard from him.
"I'll keep it a secret." Ruby says.
"I promise to keep it a secret." Weiss says.
"I won't say a word." Blake says.
"My lips are sealed." Yang says.
"Thank you." Naruto says. "I guess there is no easy way to say this, but for some reason there is a Grimm inside my body." Naruto says.
Team's RWBY's eyes widen at the statement.
"What." Ruby says
"In the." Yang says.
"World." Weiss says.
"How is something like that possible?!" Blake asks in a slightly louder voice.
"Honestly, I have no idea. I wasn't even aware of it until I was 10 years old." Naruto admits. "The only things I know for a fact is that the Grimm inside me is very powerful and it's power leaks out of me if I get too angry. That's the cloak." Naruto explains. "The power I get from it amplifies all my abilities like crazy, but it goes on for too long I could lose my sanity. Fortunately I was still at a stage where I could calm down on my own."
"I thought that was part of your Semblance." Ruby says.
"No it isn't. Unfortunately my Semblance can make this condition worse. Depending on the situation." Naruto says.
"Are there people more like you?" Yang asks.
"Including me there is nine of us." Naruto says.
"Do you know any of the other 8?" Weiss asks as a silence in the room follows at her question.
"Well there's Gaara who's a friend of mine and I recently met a guy named Sha who happens to be Sun's cousin." Naruto says the last part to Blake's surprise.
As Blake was about to speak Fū interrupts her. "Actually you missed one Naruto." Fū says in a more subdued tone then Ruby and Yang have ever heard.
"Fū are you okay?" Ruby asks worrying about her friend.
"You know another one of them Fū?" Yang asks.
'Here goes nothing.' Fū thinks. "I'm one of them too. I have a Grimm inside me too." Fū finally confesses to her longest friends.
"Why did you keep something like that hidden from us?" Yang asks completely shocked at her friend's secret, while Ruby remained silent and equally surprised.
"I was scared." Fū said. "Growing up wasn't the easiest for me and after I got separated from my sister it got even harder." Fū said as her eyes start watering. "I was tried to avoid people to keep my secret safe. Then I got accepted into Signal and met you two and you became my closest friends. I was happiest I've been in a long time, but I was still afraid that if my secret got out then I would be alone again. So I intended to take this secret to my grave. But then I met Naruto and realized that I couldn't keep it a secret forever. So now seems like the best time to say this." Fū says.
Suddenly Ruby and Yang ran and gave Fū a hug much to her surprise. "Don't be silly Fū. I don't care that you or Naruto have Grimm inside you. It's certainly a shock but both of you are still my friends regardless." Ruby says.
"I'm sorry that I didn't notice Fū." Yang says. "I'll try to be a better friend from now on."
Fū hugs her long time friends back and cry out of happiness knowing her fears have disappeared. Everyone smiles at the scene. Now Naruto doesn't need to ask how Weiss and Blake feel after seeing them act that way. "So is there anything else anyone want's to know?" Naruto asks after the emotional moment comes to an end.
"What happened with Mizuki? How did he become Grimm-like?" Blake asks.
"Truthfully I'm not really sure." Naruto says. "But based on what I saw after that Mizuki guy's Aura disappeared he drank Grimm Liquid and then transformed into something Grimm-like as you put it. Though something like that shouldn't have been possible." Naruto says.
"What do you mean?" Blake said.
"Mizuki should have died from that." Naruto says bluntly. "So that just adds to the mystery."
Satisfied with the answers Naruto gave Team RWBY said goodnight to Team NFSS and both teams went to sleep.

Team RWBY Dorm

Another week has passed since the pizza night and we have Weiss is taking a shower while Yang is looking at an unusual scene of Ruby and Blake (who is still wearing her bow) reading books in silence.
"What's going on? Did you two get in a fight?" Yang
"Huh/What?" Ruby and Blake ask respectively.
"You're both just staring at your books and not talking." Yang clarifies.
"Talking isn't the only form of communication." Blake says.
"Blake and I are swapping books." Ruby says.
"Swapping books?" Yang says in confusion.
"Yup. We borrowed our favorite books from the library and we're sharing them with each other." Ruby says.
"I see." Yang begins to say. "Since when have you two been so chummy?"
Ruby smiles. "Your little sister has always maintained communication with her teammates. Even when you weren't looking."
"Ruby." Blake calls out. "I'm done with this one."
"What did you think? Ruby asks.
"It was good. The ending was surprisingly exciting for a children's book." Blake says handing the book back to Ruby.
"That's good." Ruby says.
"Was it your typical adventure story, one where the hero defeats a monster?" Yang asks Ruby.
"Yeah. I got the feeling Blake doesn't usually read books like that, so I was worried she might not enjoy it." Ruby says.
"Not at all." Blake begins to explain. "There was a time when all I read were books like that. I think I was a bit younger then Ruby though. Not that there's anything wrong with still enjoying them." Blake says.
"What about you? Most of your books are love stories for teenagers." Ruby says.
"P-perhaps. Is that a problem?" Blake asks a bit embarrassed of Ruby's description.
"No, not really." Ruby says with a smirk.
"I'm actually worried you might not like the book I chose." Blake says.
"I'm still in the middle of it. Some parts are pretty slow. I don't read books like this that often, so it's kind of refreshing." Ruby tells Blake.
"Good, tell me what you think when you're done with it." Blake says.
"Okay." Ruby replies.
"Hey Blake, when did you stop reading the kind of book I chose?" Ruby asks after a few moments of silence. "I wonder if I'll eventually start reading more romance novels. There's a lot I still don't understand about them." Ruby tells Blake.
"Well," Blake pauses for a moment. "I think it's up to the individual. Things could change if you find somebody that interests you." Blake tells Ruby.
"Ruby's not quite ready for that type of thing yet." Yang says. "Do you have somebody like that in your life?" Yang asks.
"That's not what I meant. I'm speaking hypothetically." Blake says. "Fiction is different from reality so it's appealing. The opposite is true too." Blake begins to explain. "If it ends with the hero defeating the monster like in that book, it's not a happy ending for somebody."
"Who would that be?" Ruby asks interesting in Blake's perspective.
"The monster." Blake says remembering a moment from her time in the White Fang. "The monster isn't always what it seems though. I couldn't see a happy ending with the White Fang. No matter which side won. That's why I ran from them. Since then the world of romance books has provided an escape for me." Blake says revealing why she reads romance books.
"So, the books I lent you didn't upset you?" Ruby asks.
"Not at all." Blake begins to say. "I'm not…we're not monsters. Even with our ideas and principles are different. We can compromise and understand each other. My place in Team RWBY proved that to me. That's why a Faunus like me gets along with that Princess."
Blake takes a moment to take her breath before talking again. "Our first night here I said 'The real world isn't the same as a fairy tale' and you said 'we're here to make it better'. Do you remember?"
Ruby laughs before answering. "It's kinda embarrassing hearing that now."
Blake smiles. "Life isn't always about happy endings. But I want to know more about the world you grew up in, Ruby and I want us to make that world, as a team."
Ruby smiles at Blake. "I want to know more about the world you like too."
"Looks like I need to read up and get to know my partner a little better." Yang says. Things turn peaceful until. "Hey! What are you making Ruby read?!" Yang shouts discovering a questionable book in Ruby's selection while Blake has a blank look on her face.

What did you think? Was it good, bad in between?
My goal for this chapter was to show more bonding between the characters by revealing things like siblings and do other activities. I also wanted to show Ruby and Weiss to have more proactive bonding with Blake. I also wanted show the back story for Naruto and Weiss.
1. When Weiss described the red wisps think of the end of the Naruto vs Neji fight where Naruto calls on Kurama's Chakra but less intense.
