Chapter 12: A New Meeting

In Vale we see the owner of the Dust shop "From Dust Till Dawn" is hanging a sign declaring the re-opening of the store. As he climbs down from his ladder, he stumbles and falls. The old man looks up to see the person he crashed into.

The stranger is a young woman who looks to be around 17 years old with medium-brown skin and dark-red eyes. Her hair is a light, mint-green with a straight fringe and bangs as well as two long locks on each side in the back. She wears two bronze-colored rings on her middle fingers as well as a pair of strappy high-heeled pumps (as a result she has a height of 5 feet 8 inches). Her attire consisted of an intricate white top and an olive-colored crop top, on the back of which is her personal emblem, which is in the shape of a cut gem. This accompanied by white shorts, decorated with what appears to be a gold coin-plated belt with four gold chains draping around her back from two of the coins and what seems to be a green loincloth. This is Emerald Sustrai.

"Excuse me, sorry. I'm not really from around here." Emerald says before helping the old man to his feet. "Would you mind pointing me in the direction of this shop?" She asks showing a piece of paper with writing on it and the shopkeep looks it over and gives her directions. Emerald walks away from the shop owner as both wave goodbye and passes another person on the corner.

The new person is shown to be a pale, young man with gray eyes and gray hair, partially slicked back while unkempt at the front. He looks around 17 years old. He possesses an athletic yet slim physique measuring 5 feet 10 inches. His attire has a slate gray and black two-tone partial-zip jacket that covers his upper body. He also wears a single notched belt with what appears to be a sash or bandana draped over it. Protecting his arms is a set of rerebraces and vambraces. This is Mercury Black. "I knew you were lost." Mercury says to Emerald.

Mercury, I will seriously pay you to shut up. Emerald says as she shows a wallet with Lien and waves it in Mercury's face.

"That's not your money." Mercury says.

"But it can be yours for 5 minutes of silence." Emerald says in a persuasive voice.

"Mmmm." Mercury thinks for a second. "No deal."

"Fine." Emerald says taking the Lien and tosses the wallet, turning to walk away.

"Whatever. You want me." Mercury says tauntingly and Emerald rolls her eyes at this.

With Naruto and Fū

Here we find Naruto and Fū walking around Vale after Sasuke kicked Fū out of the dorm. Fū laughs before talking. "Did you see his face when I walked in?" Fū says.

Naruto laughs too. "Yeah it was funny to see him blush like that!" Naruto begins saying. "You wanted to join us in the bath again and he freaked out when you came in unannounced."

"Yeah. Though I wonder why Sasuke wanted to kick us out." Fū says.

"Well Sai is hanging out with Velvet today and Sasuke wanted to talk with Sakura today." Naruto says.

"Sakura is your old teammate right" Fū asks.

"Yes and she is Sasuke's girlfriend. Though do to a miscommunication they are in a more long distance relationship then they would have liked." Naruto explains. After walking a few more minutes of walking they see Ruby.

"Hey Ruby!" Fū yells as they catch up with her.

"Hey Fū! Hey Naruto! How are you two doing?" Ruby asks her friends.

"I'm doing well Ruby." Fū says.

"Though Sasuke kick us out of the dorm." Naruto tells Ruby.

Ruby then looks Fū in the eyes. "You came into the bath unannounced again didn't you." Ruby says.

"Yep!" Fū says.

Ruby sighs. "You have hanged around Yang too long." Ruby says as Fū just laughs.

"So what are you doing out in Vale alone Ruby?" Naruto asks

Ruby gets a bit sad. "I accidently got my team grounded this weekend." She tells them.

They are shocked. "How did that happen?" Fū asks.

"Cardin insulted Weiss, I got angry, I pulled out Crescent Rose, Professor Goodwitch found us and that's it." Ruby says.

"That's harsh." Fū says. "It's only Tuesday, do you think it's possible to appeal the decision?" She asks.

"I don't know and I think Weiss is a bit angry with me. She had plans this weekend and now she has to cancel them." Ruby says. "I feel bad so I want to get her something as an apology."

"Yikes." Naruto says knowing how Weiss dislikes altering certain things. As he remembers a certain thing about this weekend, but decides to deal with it later.

"Oh Yang told me what happened the other week." Fū begins saying. "I hear you are reading some questionable things." Fū says in a teasing tone.

"It's not like that." Ruby begins explaining. "I wanted to get to know Blake better so we exchanged books so I can learn more about her. As a result I've been reading a few of her romance novels. Yang only argued with Blake when she found one book that she deemed questionable. Though I didn't read it yet."

"What book was that?" Naruto asks.

"Ninjas of Love Violence." Ruby says innocently as Naruto walks into a stop sign holding on to his face in discomfort. Ruby quickly goes to her friend. "Are you alright Naruto?!" Ruby asks her friend.

"I'm fine. I was just caught off guard by what you said." Naruto says.

"Did I say something wrong?" Ruby asks unsure.

"Do you want to read that?" Naruto says, as he isn't sure if Ruby is messing with him or not.

"Well yeah." Ruby begins saying. "I don't know about the love part, but it sounds like it has a lot of action."

Naruto's eyes widen at Ruby's description and looks towards Fū to be sure if he heard that right.

Fū laughs and smirks. "Ruby you are still as innocent as ever." Fū tells her friend.

Ruby then pouts. "Will you stop treating me like a child." Ruby says getting a bit annoyed.

"Were not treating you like a child Ruby. In fact you are pretty mature for your age." Naruto begins explaining. "It's just that book you described has a bit more explicit sexual content then your average book."

Ruby blushes at the implications now that she understands. "So I shouldn't read it." Ruby asks. While she finds those kinds of things a bit on the uninteresting side, but with a sister like Yang and a friend like Fū even she has some curiosity.

'I might regret this later.' Naruto thinks and sighs. "Ninjas of Love Violence is the second book in the series." Naruto begins explaining. "If you are really interested in reading this I suggest you read the previous book Ninjas of Love Paradise first. Paradise is tamer then Violence as it has a more romance novel tone. If you are still interested then go for Violence, though in your case I would wait a year or two for that." Naruto tells Ruby. "Please don't tell Yang I told you about this."

"Sure." Ruby says as she has some things to think about. Though she is feeling a bit embarrassed.

Naruto then looks towards Fū. "You don't say anything either." Naruto tells his teammate.

Fū giggles. "No problem. I personally think Ruby should get a bit more exposed to stuff like this. Even I admit Yang can be a bit over protective at times." Fū says.

Naruto decides to change the topic. "Ruby, what exactly do you want to do want to get Weiss?" Naruto asks remembering the previous conversation.

Ruby starts thinking. "Well me and Blake started sharing books so maybe I can get her something that she might like." Ruby says. Naruto smiles and rubs Ruby's head for a moment as she blushes.

"Well we have the whole day so lets start with a book store." Fū says.

"I know a place called Tukson's Book Trade, it has a lot of options." Naruto says and he leads them to a bookstore he is familiar with.

Tukson's Book Trade

The trio then arrives at Tukson's Book Trade and notice a sign that says everything is for sale. The trio entered the shop full of books. The shop owner can be heard humming a tune. Naruto approaches the counter and rings a service bell.

"Be right there!" The shop owner is seen through a set of double doors carrying stacks of books as he walks backwards and out toward the counter. He sets the stacks down and turns around. "Welcome to Tukson's Book Trade, home to every book under the sun! How may I help you?" The owner wore a short-sleeved quarter-zip burgundy and black shirt with a visible white undershirt. His hair was cleanly cut, and he had noticeable sideburns, along with hairy, muscular arms.

"Hey Tukson long time no see." Naruto says.

Tukson smirks. "Glad to see you didn't get expelled Naruto." Tukson says.

"Why do people keep saying that?" Naruto asks.

"Considering the last books you bought had a spy based theme to them I figured you were doing something that could get you in trouble." Tukson says as Naruto laughs.

"Are you going out of business or something?" Naruto asks.

"Not exactly I'm selling my shop and moving my business to Vacuo." Tukson tells Naruto.

"Well I hope everything goes well for you." Naruto says.

Tukson then notices the girls though he gets a bit tense looking at Fū. "Who are your friends Naruto?"

"The girl in the red cape is Ruby." Naruto says.

"Hi." Ruby waves her hand.

"And I'm Fū!" Fū introduces herself.

Tukson now relaxes. "So what can I do for you all?" Tukson asks.

"I'm looking for a couple of books on Dust." Naruto says.

"There are some books to the right." Tukson says.

"I'm looking for some comics." Fū says.

"The comics on the front right bottom self." Tukson says.

"I'm just going to browse a bit." Ruby says.

"Of course take your time." Tukson says.

The trio then looks around the shop and after a few minutes they finding the books they were looking for. Naruto found his Dust books, Fū found a comic called 'Camp Camp', and Ruby found a book on fencing for Weiss.

"Is that all you will be buying?" Tukson asks.

Ruby now blushes. "Umm, there is one more." Ruby says pulling out Ninjas of Love Paradise much to the shock of those around her.

'Ruby's trying to grow up more.' Fū thinks.

"How old are you?" Tukson asks.

"I'm 15." Ruby says.

"Just don't read it in public." Tukson warns Ruby as they finish their purchases.

"Is there a bathroom somewhere?" Fū asks.

"In the back." Tukson says as they three of them go to the bathroom. A few moments later Tukson hears the door open. "Welcome to Tukson's Book Trade, home to every book under the sun! How may I..." he gasps and hesitates upon seeing Emerald and Mercury who is now holding an open book. "How may I help you?"

"Just browsing." Mercury says looking at Tukson as he shuts the book.

"Actually, I was wondering, do you have any copies of 'The Thief and The Butcher'?" Emerald asks.

"Yes we do." Tukson says

"That's great." Emerald says 'excitedly'.

"Would you... like a copy?" Tukson asks

"No, just wondering." Emerald says as Mercury closes another book. "Oh, oh! What about 'Violet's Garden'? In paperback?" Emerald asks

"He's got it. Hardback too." Mercury says showing a book.

"Ooh, options are nice." Emerald says

"Eh, no pictures." Mercury says closing the book. "Hey! Do you have any comics?" he asks.

"Near the front." Tukson says

"Oh, no, wait! What... about... 'Third Crusade'?" Emerald asks.

"Um...I..." Tukson hesitates, visibly unnerved as Mercury and Emerald are shown to be eyeing him carefully. "...don't believe we carry that one."

Mercury slams another book shut. "Oh." Mercury says.

"What was this place called again?" Emerald asks.

"Tukson's Book Trade." Tukson says.

"And you're Tukson?" Emerald asks.

That's right. Tukson says.

"So then I take it that you're the one that came up with the catchphrase?" Emerald asks.

"Yes." Tukson says.

"And, what was it again?" Mercury says

"Tukson's Book Trade, home to every book under the sun." Tukson says.

"Except the Third Crusade." Mercury says.

"It's just a catchphrase." Tukson says.

"It's false advertising!" Mercury says.

But before anything else can happen the trio of Naruto, Ruby, and Fū walk out of the bathroom.

"You took a long time Naruto." Ruby says.

"Hey I can't help it if nature calls." Naruto says.

"Well maybe you shouldn't have eaten…" Fū begins to say but she stops talking, her eyes widen, and she drops her bag the moment her eyes land on Emerald. That's when all parties got involved.

'Who is this girl and why does she look like Emerald?' Mercury is surprised to see a girl that looks identical to Emerald.

'Could she be…' Were Naruto and Ruby's thoughts having an idea of who the other girl might be.

Fū just walked slowly not believing what she was seeing. "Em." Was all Fū could say at the moment.

"Fū." Emerald with her eyes widened couldn't stop herself from saying Fū's name.

Fū's eyes start watering as she dashes over to Emerald and gives her a hug and starts crying. "I finally found you Em. I missed you." Fū says.

Emerald starts crying too and hugs Fū back. "I missed you too Fū." Emerald says.

Naruto and Ruby (who picked up Fū's bag) smile at the reunion between sisters. Tukson is happy but is still a bit tense because of what could happen. Mercury on the other hand is surprised and confused because he doesn't know what is happening.

Tuskon doesn't want to ruin the moment he uses his had to tell Naruto to get over here as Naruto walks over. "Friends of yours Naruto?" Tukson asks quietly.

"Never seen them before. But if my guess is right I think we just found Fū's missing sister." Naruto says quietly.

"I see." Tukson says now knowing that this wasn't staged or anything.

Fū then moves back a bit to look Emerald in the eye. "There is so much I want to talk to you about. Lets go to the Pizza parlor." Fū says now dragging Emerald away as Emerald has no response.

Naruto and Ruby soon follow the sisters to the Pizza parlor wanting to know more about the sisters and exit the door.

"Shit." Mercury says as he also goes out the door. He can't kill Tukson now as there were witnesses who saw them in the store today. He will have to come back another day and he exits the store taking a copy of X-Ray and Vav with him.

Tukson sighs feeling like he just dodged a bullet. "Looks like I have to close up early today." He says knowing it was time to go.

After arriving at the Pizza parlor Naruto, Ruby, Fū, and Emerald settle down and wait at a table.

"So you're the Em that Fū talks about." Naruto says.

"Actually my name is Emerald. Emerald Sustrai." She introduces herself.

Fū then raises an eyebrow at the last name. "Sustrai, that's the last name you came up with?" Fū asks.

"Is that a problem?" Emerald asks.

Fū smiles. "Nope! I guess that make me Fū Sustrai now." She says.

Naruto and Ruby raise an eyebrow. "I thought you didn't have a last name." Naruto says.

"We didn't." Fū says. "Em and I were going to discuss it further, but we got separated before we could decide anything."

"I'm glad you finally found your sister Fū." Ruby says.

"So Fū, who are these two?" Emerald asks.

"Well the girl is Ruby. She has been a friend of mine since I went to Signal Academy."

"Hello." Ruby says to her friend's sister.

"And the boy is Naruto. He has been my friend and team leader since coming to Beacon Academy." Fū says.

"Nice to meet you." Naruto say.

"Nice to meet you both." Emerald says glad that her sister was able to make friends considering the life they lived before the separation. "Thank you for putting up with Fū's antics. She must be a handful."

"EM!" Fū says with a blush.

"It's true, you were always the more energetic and crazy of the two of us." Emerald says.

"Fū is a great friend." Naruto and Ruby say.

"So what have you been doing since we got separated Em?" Fū asks.

Emerald sighs. "Well, since I was alone things got more difficult. I had to use my Semblance more as a result I got a lot more headaches." Emerald says. "I was then fortunate to meet someone from Mistral who helped me and here I am as a Haven Academy student." Emerald says.

"I see." Fū says. "No wonder I couldn't find you. I was still looking in the Vale/Sanus area while you were in the Mistral/Anima area."

"Don't blame yourself Fū. There was no way you could have know." Emerald says.

After a few more minutes Mercury shows up. "So Emerald who is your friend?" Mercury asks referring to Fū.

"I'm Em's sister Fū Sustrai." Fū introduces herself. "Who are you?" she asks.

"I'm Mercury." He says raising an eyebrow looking at Emerald. "You never said anything about a sister." Mercury says.

"You never asked." Emerald say.

"So is he your boyfriend or something?" Fū asks.

Emerald literally gags at the thought. "Don't even joke about that." Emerald says.

Mercury smirks. "She wants me though." He teases.

"You're not my type." Emerald says turning to Fū. "He is my teammate. He is a pain most of the time."

Just as Mercury rolls his eyes the Pizza is delivered and all five people eat before leaving. It is now nighttime and after a few more minutes of walking a new meeting would occur.

"Seems like you are having fun, Emerald. Mercury." An attractive female voice calls out as the group of five turns around to see the owner of the voice. The owner is a very attractive fair-skinned young woman (19 years old) with bright amber eyes and ashen-black hair that covers her left eye. She wears a dark-red, off the shoulders, dress that exposes her waist with a black underskirt. She has black gloves, bra, and a black choker on her neck. She has a gold loop earring with a black gem dangling from it on her right ear. She has dark, glass, high-heeled shoes which give her a height of 5 feet 11 inches.

"Cinder!" Emerald says in surprise not expecting her leader to show up.

Cinder smirks looking at the group of 5. She recognizes the girl in the red cape who was on that roof with Glynda Goodwitch. She is a bit surprised to see a girl that looks very similar to Emerald and to see that the girl and Emerald seem quite close with each other. Then to her pleasant surprise she sees the blond Fox Faunus that showed off that red cloak. 'Well isn't this an interesting turn of events.' Cinder thinks as she walks towards the group and stops a few feet away from Naruto. "Thank you for taking care of my teammates today." Cinder says.

"No problem." Naruto says to one of the most attractive girls he has ever met. He feels his heart beating a bit faster then normal though he is trying to keep his cool. 'What is this feeling?' Naruto thinks as he experiences a new feeling. He has traveled with godfather Jiraiya for 3 years and despite learning many useful fighting skills as a Hunter he also taught him about girls/women, which had its upsides and annoyances. As a result Naruto had developed a bit a labeling system when it came to girls. Using girls he knows as examples Ruby would be considered cute, Melanie and Miltia would be hot, and Weiss would be beautiful. Cinder on the other hand would be considered sexy. Even so there was something different about her and he can't figure out what it is.

"May I have the pleasure to know who my teammates have been with?" Cinder asks.

"I'm Naruto Uzumaki." Naruto introduces himself.

"I'm Em's sister Fū." Fū says a bit on the nervous side. 'Why am I so nervous?" Fū thinks to herself as Cinder gives her an odd feeling.

"I'm Ruby Rose. Nice to meet you." Ruby says that and while she means it the way Cinder has been talking and her look towards Naruto makes her feel on edge for some reason. 'Why do I care how she talks?' Ruby thinks to herself.

Cinder introduces herself. "I'm Cinder Fall. I'm Emerald and Mercury's team leader. It is nice to meet you. As much I want to keep the sisters together and stick around I'm afraid I have to discuss something important with my teammates, so we will have to depart for time being." Cinder says to the group.

"Are you sure?" Fū asks disappointed to be separated from Emerald again.

Cinder smiles. "Don't worry it's not like this will be the last time you will see your sister. In fact I'll make sure you two will have some time together." Cinder tells Fū.

Fū smiles. "Thanks!"

Naruto smiles as well. "Thank you. As Fū's friend and team leader I'm glad you are open to this." Naruto says.

Cinder smirks. "Perhaps it would be a good idea to exchange contact information Naruto. Since we are our teams leaders it would be best if we can make sure on compatible schedules." Cinder says.

Fū's eyes widen. "Oh right. I completely forgot about that." Fū says as she exchanges her contact information with Emerald's on their Scrolls.

"Sounds good to me." Naruto says as he exchanges his contact information with Cinder's on their Scrolls.

"I hope to see you all again soon." Cinder says as she and her teammates go their separate ways from Naruto, Ruby, and Fū.

"Emerald." Cinder begins to say as Emerald looks at her boss. "You failed to mention to me that you hade a sister. Why didn't you mention important information like that?" Cinder asks.

"It never came up." Emerald begins explaining. "Me and Fū had been separated for seven years and I wasn't sure if I'd ever see her again."

"I see." Cinder says. "This does lead to another question. Where did you meet Fū?"

"At Tukson's Book Trade." Emerald says.

"Why were you two even there in the first place?" Cinder says with a slight glare.

"He was going to escape to Vacuo! Mercury and I decided to take it upon ourselves to kill…" Emerald begins to say before Cinder interrupts.

"Quiet." Cinder begins to say. "Did I not specifically instruct you two to keep your hands clean while in Vale?"

"I just thought..." Emerald gets interrupted again.

"Don't think...obey." Cinder says.

"Yes ma'am. It won't happen again." Emerald apologetically says.

"It appears Roman hasn't been doing all of his duties." Cinder says.

"So what do we do about Tukson?" Mercury asks.

"Nothing." Cinder says.

"Why?" Mercury says with a raised eyebrow.

"I also went to Tukson's store and when I got there it had been closed. So I assume he is gone by now." Cinder says.

"Damn it." Emerald says.

"What a waste of a day." Mercury says as Emerald glares at him.

Cinder smirks. "Actually I think you two had quite the productive day." Cinder says.

Emerald is surprised, while Mercury is confused. "How so?" He asks.

"Tukson may have be an ex-member of the White Fang, but he is quite insignificant in the end game. Killing him would have been meaningless and would have brought more trouble." Cinder explains. "However, now we know that Emerald's sister is on a team with Naruto who has that extraordinary power, you have made a decent connection with them, and as a result I was able to make a good first impression. We even got their contact information. I call that a very successful day."

"I see." Emerald says not feeling comfortable with the way Cinder mentioned Fū.

Cinder glances at Emerald noticing her tone. "Don't worry Emerald, I didn't lie to Fū. I will make sure you two have time together. I have my eyes set on a bigger prize." Cinder says seeing Naruto's contact information. "All I need you to do is be the sister you want to be." Cinder tells Emerald.

What did you think? Was it good, bad in between?

After reading this you may assume I'm going strait to Volume 2, but that is an incorrect assumption. This is the start of things changing a bit as I go into my own arc, so you can say this is the start of a Volume 1.5 as it takes place between Volume 1 and 2. So expect some cool new moments.

My goal for this chapter was to show more bonding moments between Naruto and Ruby as well as showing the reunion the siblings Fū and Emerald. I also wanted to show Ruby getting more interested in certain books as a result of her bonding with Blake. This was also the start of Cinder meeting some of the main cast showing her moments of cleverness and adaptively just like in Volumes 1-3 (I'm hoping I did a good job at showing her character).

Also you may have noticed that Naruto and Fū have gotten a weird feeling from Cinder, that was intentional. I have a plan for that, but you will have to wait and see.

You also just witnessed Ruby's first moment of very slight jealousy.

1. For the outfit Cinder wears in this look up a character called Dvergr from an anime Anime "Kiddy Grade" with some color and slight design alterations.
