"You know, I thought you would be more pissed after seeing me, not before."
It takes a while for Naruto to process that Shion is in the room. He stares at her, expressionless as she rambles about something he doesn't care about.
"What's wrong? Hinata got under your skin?"
He disregards Shion, and walks to his kitchen.
"I paid her a visit today by the way. She's such a sweet girl. She deserves much better than you." It seems she's following him. It doesn't matter, she's just making this easier.
Between his stresses about Toneri, Hinata, and Shion, the blonde paying an erratic Naruto a visit wasn't the best idea for her sake. He knows she came to his apartment for her own ego; to rub it in his face that the life he built for himself was crumbling.
"It doesn't matter, because you don't have her anymore. She's on her way to Jiraiya's house right now, and she's going to find Toneri, and-"
"Shion."
Naruto bends down, sliding the knife he used for special occasions out of its sheath. He turns around to see her confused face.
"You've always had a problem with shutting the fuck up."
His eyes are glazed over with something unfamiliar, and even Shion notices the shift in the room. She can't run quick enough when she realizes she doesn't have the upper hand anymore, but he grips her thin shoulder before she can move.
Stabbing her in the back (literally) is pure bliss.
A blood curdling scream escapes her lips, and he covers her mouth with his hand, as he uses his other to twist the knife.
She puts up a fight; biting his hand deep enough for a trickle of blood to stain her lip, and pushing away from the knife lodged in her lower back.
He decides to do her a favor. He pulls the knife out, and watches as she tries getting away. He trips her when she tries to run, and she falls on the floor. The cold tile against the wound on her back should hurt her.
But he hurts more.
Stab.
Why did she even come here? To rub losing Hinata in his face? She should've known that would piss him off.
Stab.
Maybe she wanted to die.
Stab.
Maybe she didn't.
Stab.
She brought this onto herself.
Stab.
Yes, it's her fault for this happening.
Stab.
It's her fault that he has to go through the pain of losing Hinata.
Stab.
Has he lost her yet?
His eyes begin to clear up from the haze he was under. Her blood looks so beautiful splattered against his eggshell white wall. The stab wounds that decorate Shion's skin cause him to smile once again. It's funny, she broke into his apartment as if she were the Grim Reaper coming to collect his soul. And now look at her.
She opens her mouth to speak, maybe to yell or to curse him to hell. Instead blood bubbles out of her mouth. He watches her eyes for his favorite part. When the life leaves their eyes, and their face relaxes. He thinks it's beautiful. He can't take it seriously because it's Shion.
The laugh is a giggle at first. Then he continues, snorting when he shocks himself with another laugh.
Now here he is, straddling a dead body, manically laughing before the love of his life opens the door.
Suddenly, nothing is funny.
"Naruto-kun I just want to apologize-"
Maybe if he stands still she won't see him.
That's a stupid thought. But in his defense, he never was able to think straight after moments like these.
He looks at her, blood splattered on and around him, knife in his hand, straddling a dead Shion with a smile on his face before he hides it when their eyes meet. He watches as her brows furrow, and she looks underneath him, and before he can think to do something, she's running out.
Yeah, nothing's funny anymore.
"Come on, pick up Hinata."
His leg shakes as he stands in his blood stained apartment kitchen with the phone in his hands. He waits with bated breath for the phone to pick up, and is disappointed every time it goes to voice-mail.
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck." He mumbles the curse under his breath. Maybe if he continues to call she wouldn't be able to call 911. Maybe she'll accidentally answer his call. It's a reach, but he's wishing for anything at this point.
It begins to set in the longer he's spent alone. The dialing phone is the only noise in the room. Hinata - his Hinata saw a side of him he wasn't ready to show her. That was more heartbreaking than the idea that he would probably get arrested within 24 hours. He didn't worry too much about that, he knew he could get away. He always did.
No, he was more upset at the fact that he would probably have to start a new life without her in it. He couldn't imagine a world without her. Which is why he didn't. If she would answer the fucking phone he could ask her to go with him. He would use Shion as proof that he loved her so much.
But it goes to voice-mail once again.
He's gonna fucking cry.
There's a knock on his apartment door, and he disregards it. He already knows it's Sasuke. Instead, he keeps his attention on the phone.
After the door closes, the room is silent for a while. There's nothing in particular Naruto wants to say, unless it's to Hinata. And Sasuke is stewing in his anger at the turn of events, waiting for his moment.
"Naruto I can't believe you."
There it is.
"It was an accident." He pulls at his hair, and puts the phone on speaker, partly to drown out Sasuke's complaining.
"An accident is spilling a drink on a customer. You don't accidentally stab someone 50 times."
"It was 50?" He looks at Shion.
"I don't know how many it was you fucking psycho." Naruto glares at Sasuke. "You promised me this wouldn't happen again."
Naruto hangs up the phone the second Hinata says hi on voice-mail, and clicks her icon to call her again.
"I didn't think it would. But Shion came back and I had to-"
"What about Toneri, huh? I know you did something with him."
Naruto's heart drops. If Hinata called the cops, that meant Toneri would be found, which meant he wouldn't be able to get away.
"I have to go."
"No you don't."
Sasuke grabs Naruto's shoulder, which definitely wasn't something one should do with a murderer, but the raven haired man knew his best friend wouldn't do anything to him.
"Sasuke, it's important. I really have to go." His breathing is labored as he thinks about how completely fucked he is.
"Naruto calm down." Sasuke knows the blonde well enough to know that he's close to either killing anyone that gets in his way, or running away and never looking back.
"I really-"
"You're not going anywhere right now. You have blood all over you, and a dead body in your apartment. Think logically."
"I can't think logically, I'm gonna lose Hinata!"
"You're thinking of her when you're about to go to jail?! Naruto-"
He wipes his face with his blood stained hands, and hangs up the phone again.
"Think about yourself for a minute, okay?" Naruto nods. "Get cleaned up so you can help me get rid of Shion. Hinata doesn't want to talk to you with her blood on you."
It takes a moment for Naruto to process the statement, and Sasuke impatiently waits until he finally nods.
The car ride to Sumida River should take around 30 minutes, but it feels like it's been 2 hours, either because of the weight of knowing they were about to dump a body in the river, or the anticipation of waiting for a sign from Hinata.
He just wanted to know if she was okay. He wouldn't blame her if she called the cops, but he at least wanted a chance to talk to her before she did anything reckless.
Reckless was killing your ex-girlfriend with the door unlocked, but both him and Hinata had their faults.
"Naruto quit standing there like an idiot and get her out of the car." Sasuke was getting more and more irritated the longer time passed.
At 2:48 in the morning, the river's bridge was empty. That gave Naruto the chance to throw the body over the bridge without attention from onlookers.
And as if it were fate, the second after Naruto hears the plop of her body hit the water, his phone rings.
He can't take it out of his pocket quick enough.
"Hello? Hinata? Hey, I wanted to tell you that it wasn't what it looked like, I-"
She interrupts him with a stutter of his name.
"Hello? Hinata?"
He hears her whimper, then sniff, and try to say his name again. Sasuke looks at him with confusion etched on his features.
"Naruto we have to go-"
Naruto hushes Sasuke as he presses the phone to his ear to hear Hinata.
"C-can y-y-ou,"
"Hinata, it's me. You know you can tell me anything, right?" He knows her well enough to know that she nods. "Just tell me what's wrong baby."
There's rustling on the other end, and he can hear her attempt to calm her breathing.
"Hinata, where are you?"
"Um, I-I don't know-"
"Hinata I know you saw something scary but killing yourself isn't the answer." He hasn't been this fucking scared in a long time. To think his Hinata would die because of something he'd doneā¦he could never forgive himself.
"Just tell me where you are please? You're scaring me."
"I-I don't k-k-know, the g-girl gave me a k-key," His heart drops, and an unsettling feeling lodges in his gut.
",and I-I went, and-"
"Okay, just calm down. Don't get off the phone okay?"
A sob he can hear over the phone almost breaks his heart. He can imagine her staring at Toneri in the box, as he pleads for her to let him out. He's just thankful that she called him before letting him out.
"Hinata go up the stairs, and-"
"I-I can't,"
The next few words that come out of her mouth manage to shock him, which is surprising given all that's happened in the past 24 hours.
"H-He's de-dead."
