A/N: It's been around a year since my last big P5 fic, and while I've always wanted to write more in this universe, I never felt like there was an additional story that I wanted to tell. To put it simply, I only really write when I feel really inspired to do so - when there's something missing that I want to say. However, upon playing a little of P5S and revisiting my old work, I came up with a story that I felt was compelling enough to put the time and effort into.

If 'A Dance Made for Two' was Sumire's story and journey, then this is Kasumi's story, as she ventures to connect with her dear sister once again. It's not necessary to have read my previous story, but I do think that this story will eventually complement that one quite well. That's all I'll say for now regarding that matter.

Without further ado, please enjoy.

"Eh? This is the treasure? This is...uh, what is this?"

"C'mon, Mona, you've never seen this before? This is…"

"Oh I see, that makes sense...Wait, like hell it does, Joker! I don't really get it - this is that person's greatest desire?"

"Yeah honestly, I'm not too sure either. Hey! ...Do you know if this holds any significance?"

"..."

"Wait, no way?! You can do that? Or I guess, the more important question is...are you?"

"..."

"And you've decided then?"

"..."

"...I see. Then I won't say anything more."

"Thank you. But in return, Joker, I want you to promise me one thing…"

...

"Today was difficult, wasn't it?"

Amidst the pouring rain in the district of Shibuya, two redhead twins could be seen walking along the sidewalk of one of the main streets. The incessant white noise of the rain, pitter-pattering on their umbrellas, meant that they had to stay slightly closer to hear each other.

Normally, that wouldn't have been an issue.

Kasumi turned her head around in her usual, energetic manner, despite the sullen and gray atmosphere that the rainy day brought with it. Usually, her twin sister, Sumire, would be right behind her, following in her footsteps, discussing the gymnastics routine that they had just practiced for the day. Instead, today, though, Sumire was lagging behind with a dejected look on her face.

Realizing the distance between them was growing, Kasumi paused to allow Sumire to catch up, a look of mild concern on her face for her twin's unusual behavior.

"Do you not feel okay?" she asked Sumire when she caught up.

A slight shake of the head.

"That's not it," Sumire replied glumly.

Her voice trailed off, opting to stare at the floor rather than look her concerned sister in the eye. Given her behavior, Kasumi now realized that there was indeed, something that was bothering her.

"Then…" Kasumi asked lightheartedly, trying to lighten up the mood a little. "What is it? Something wrong?"

"No, it's nothing."

"Ehh? C'mon, talk to me, Sumire. What's bothering you?" Kasumi tried again. She tried to reach out to Sumire with her free hand, who was a couple of feet behind her.

"It's nothing!" Sumire repeated stubbornly. Dodging her sister's hand deftly, she walked past Kasumi in an attempt to end the conversation.

"Ah, wait, Sumire!"

Kasumi called out to her, jogging a little to catch up. With more force put in her step, some puddles of water splashed onto her leg.

"Sumire, wait, I said!" Kasumi said again. "Is this about practice earlier?"

Recalling Sumire's tumble earlier today during her routine, Kasumi suspected that it might've been the case. It wasn't like Coach had chewed her out too much for it though, and it was normal to make a couple of footing related mistakes when first learning the routine, so Kasumi didn't think it was that big of a deal. But…

Upon hearing those words, Sumire stopped in her tracks, inadvertently allowing Kasumi to catch up.

"...Why can't I do it?" Sumire muttered under her breath, barely audible over the rain splashing on their umbrellas.

"What?" Kasumi asked. She moved from behind Sumire to in front, in an attempt to hear her better.

"Why can't I do it?" Sumire repeated again, not moving, barely louder than the last time. "I keep on messing up my routine."

So it really was about practice, after all. Kasumi grimaced a little internally. Sumire was definitely a hard worker. So when things didn't go her way, things got a little...delicate.

For her part, Kasumi, in an attempt to cheer her twin sister up, shook her head gently.

"I told you that it's only because of your growth spurt - it's changed your eye level," she said in a bubbly tone. Putting her hand around Sumire's forehead, Kasumi tried to emphasize the difference. "Look! You're as tall as I am now."

In response, Sumire let out a defeated sigh. Evidently, those words weren't enough to sway her.

"That doesn't matter," she said glumly. "Even though we practice the same amount, you always end up being better than me. I can't catch up to you at all…"

"You wanna know why? It's because I'm the older sister!" Kasumi teased, with a hint of nonsensical pride in her voice.

"But aren't we twins…?"

"...Aw, don't be so down!" Kasumi tried. "Besides…"

She turned around to face forward again, looking up at one of Shibuya's numerous skyscrapers in particular. On it, a bright blue advertisement for the National Gymnastic Competition was displayed.

"We're both going to take over the world, right?" she said firmly. "That's our dream."

The promise that they had made, all those years ago - to reach the top of the gymnastics world together. Though things haven't been the easiest, Kasumi knew for a fact that Sumire still felt as strongly about that dream as she did.

"Kasumi…"

"Mm?" Hearing her name come out from her twin, Kasumi looked back.

"Kasumi, you don't get how I feel."

"Eh?"

Without warning, Sumire ran past her and into the crowd of strangers forming at the intersection.

"Hey, wait up!" Kasumi cried out, running after her. The crowd that she was wading through made it hard to catch up. Kasumi only was able to closely follow by pinpointing Sumire's distinct, red hair.

But Sumire didn't listen, nor wait for her. Instead, she sped up, trying to shake her off.

"Hey, are you listening!? The light's red!"

And before she knew it, Sumire had walked onto the street, clearly not paying attention to her surroundings, or the fact that she was walking directly into oncoming traffic.

"Sumire, stop! SUMIRE!"

Without thinking, without hesitation, Kasumi leapt, with the sole goal of pushing Sumire out of the way.

It was as if the world had gone into slow motion - in that moment, in that instant, Kasumi could detect everything going on around her. Sumire's horrified face. The cold rain dropping on her skin. The deafening truck horn, blocking out the sound of the screaming spectators and the rain hitting the pavement.

And perhaps worst of all, the terrified face that she herself was likely wearing, which would be the last memory that Sumire had of her.

"This time, things will be different."

The next thing she knew, Kasumi saw black.

...

Antiseptic.

That was what it smelled like. The distinct, identifying smell of disinfectant. That was the first thing she sensed when she awoke.

"Mmm…?"

Slowly opening her eyes, Kasumi winced a little at the bright ceiling that was a shade of light gray.

Eh? Where was she?

Her mind was a little hazy, and it was unclear what had just transpired, or how long she'd been out.

Blinking a little bit, she tried to get a gauge of her surroundings.

Currently, she was lying down. On a bed, most likely, given the soft pillow that she was resting her head on. But it definitely wasn't her bed. No, her pillow wasn't like this. And the ceiling tiles at home didn't look like this either.

This unfamiliar ceiling, this bright light, and that stuffy smell…

'...Oh.'

And all of a sudden, it clicked.

She was at a hospital.

"What...happened?" she spoke aloud to no-one in particular.

But before she could find the answer to her rhetorical question or recall her memories, however, a voice spoke out to her on her left.

"Good morning, miss. Or, rather, should I say, good evening?"

"?"

Refocusing her vision, she looked to her bedside to find an unfamiliar man sitting next to her hospital bed. He had wispy, black hair, and wore slightly rounded, square glasses. He also looked fairly young - perhaps a high school student?

The thing is though, she had no idea who this person was supposed to be.

"Uhm, sorry...do I know you?" Kasumi tentatively asked, sitting up in the hospital bed to face him properly. Her bangs, normally swept to the left, were now sitting atop her forehead facing down, slightly covering her vision.

'Mmm? Strange…' Kasumi thought as she sat up. 'I don't feel any pain sitting up. Or rather, I don' t feel any pain at all...just what part of me was injured?'

"Oh - right. Sorry…" the man said, breaking her train of thought. He looked away, slightly sheepish, before making eye contact again and giving his response.

"I'm Ren Amamiya. I was the one who called the ambulance after the accident. The paramedics said they needed a volunteer to help escort, and since I had seen the entire thing and was worried anyways, I came along to the hospital."

He looked at Kasumi's confused expression and added an extra thought.

"Uhm, sorry," he said regrettably, repeating his apology. "I'm not sure if any of that made sense. I know this must be pretty sudden for you."

...Accident?

"Mreow!"

Without warning, a meow filled the room, catching her attention. The next thing she knew, a black cat popped out from under his left arm. Or, to be more specific, from the bag that he was holding.

"Ah, and this is Morgana," Ren Amamiya explained, scratching the cat's chin lightly. "He was also quite worried about both of you too, you know."

...? Worried? Worried about what...?

What was going on? In the first place, why was she even in the hospital? Her eyebrows crumpled in visible confusion. There were too many unknowns at the moment.

"Uhm...I'm Kasumi Yoshizawa," Kasumi replied halfheartedly, sorting out her thoughts. "Sorry, but what exactly…"

Her voice trailed off as her brain latched onto a specific phrase that the man in front of him had just used.

"Both of us"? Me, and…

"!"

If her world had been traveling at slow motion up until that moment, now it suddenly zoomed to light speed. In an instant, all of the memories that had happened slowly around her sped back up to reality, flooding her all at once.

The raindrops on her face. The deafening horn.

And that girl's terror-stricken face, as she pushed her away from the oncoming traffic.

"Ah!"

Sumire.

Visibly gasping as she recalled the events fresh in her memory, Kasumi put both of her hands to her mouth.

"Yoshizawa-san?!" the man beside him exclaimed. He stood up quickly, fraught with worry. "Are you okay?! Do you need me to call a doctor?"

"Sumire!" Kasumi cried, grasping at him. Unsurprisingly, though, he had no visible reaction, as he didn't know who 'Sumire' was.

"Uhm, my twin sister!" she clarified. "Where is she?! Is she okay?!"

"!"

At the mention of the word sister, he sucked in his breath and didn't respond. Instead he drooped his shoulders a little, sitting back down.

"Eh...? You..." Kasumi trailed off, seeing his reaction.

No.

"...I'm sorry," he said finally.

No...it can't be.

The man next to her known as Ren Amamiya swallowed, not knowing how to break the news.

"The doctors tried all they could, but...it was too late."

That's not true. It can't be true.

"Y-you're lying!" she pleaded desperately. "There's no way Sumire could've died!"

Say it's a joke. Or say that she's alive and well but already went home, so it's too late to see her. Something. Anything.

But he didn't.

Ren did nothing except shake his head sadly.

"I mean, that doesn't make sense!" Kasumi tried again, choking back some tears. "After all, I clearly remember pushing her out of the way of the truck! How is it that I'm perfectly fine but she's not?!"

"Huh...?"

Upon hearing those words, Ren looked up at her in slight confusion.

"Yoshizawa-san, I think you might be mistaken," he said hesitantly, trying to remain calm.

"Eh?" Kasumi said, hiccuping. "What do you mean…?"

He crossed his arms, dead serious.

"Uhm...Sumire-san, was it? Your sister - she was the one who pushed you out of the way of the truck - not the other way around. That's the only reason you're still alive."

"...Wha…?"

A/N: That's it for now - apologies for the short chapter!
