Chapter 6

A First Day to Remember

Jed was surprisingly calm with Ruby; she told him her reason for leaving, and all he replied with "Well, they need help, simple as that," and let her go to bed without another word.

Ruby got up, and Jed walked her to school. The young fire type saw a few rows of empty desks as they walked up to the small house where the principal was waiting.

Principle Ellen was a simian Pokémon that is primarily blue. Her ears were broad with light blue insides, and she had oval eyes and a small black nose. There were several tufts of fur on her head, which resembled dreadlocks. The Simipour had a white marking around her neck that resembled a ruff; and a cream-colored face, hands, arms, legs, and feet. Her hands had five fingers, and her feet had three toes. Finally, her tail was tipped with a blue plume, resembling a spout of water.

"It's so nice to meet you, Ruby; I'm Principal Ellen. I hope you get along with the other students well!" The water type greeted happily.

Ruby nodded and replied, "thanks."

Jed nodded and said, "I'll leave ya to it; I got some business to attend to."

As Jed left, Ruby followed Ellen to the desks outside, and sure enough, there were several other pokemon there. Bella, Darwin, John, Max, and a new pokemon. This classmate sitting in the back, Anna, was a bipedal, feline Pokémon. Her fur was a pale gray with white tips on her ears and white paws. There were tousled tufts of fur on her head, cheeks, shoulders, chest, and hips. She had wide, pale purple eyes with darker purple pupils, a tiny nose, and a small mouth. Her tail was fluffy and slightly curled.

Ruby couldn't place it, but Anna reminded her of something or someone.

"Everyone, this is Ruby, please treat her well," Ellen said as Ruby took her place in the front row, beside the one other empty seat.

Then the teacher, who resembled a light brown duck with a white underbelly, while carrying what appeared to be a large leek.

"Greetings, class," the Farfetch'd said formally.

"Hello, Mr. Howard," the class said in unison.

Just then, one pokemon ran into the schoolyard; the same water type that had shoved Ruby into the plaza hit Ruby head on knocking her out with a bump on the head.

Just as Tide realized who he hit, Ruby lost consciousness…

Ruby woke up in the school nurse's office and came face to face with the nurse, who smiled at her warmly.

"Hi, I'm Nurse Audrey. Are you feeling better?" the Audino questioned.

Ruby nodded and said, "yea, I just got knocked out. Is class still in session?"

Audrey nodded and replied, "you've been out about an hour; there's still 30 minutes till recess. If you're feeling better, you can go!"

The fire type walked outside and took her place next to Tide, as it was the only open desk.

"As I said before, in three weeks, we will have a special guest for our exploration team lessons. Then it will be time for spring break," Mr. Howard explained before noticing Ruby's return.

Howard sighed and said, "since you've joined near the end of the semester, we'll adapt things as best as we can."

"Oh...thanks," Ruby replied, hating to be a bother to anyone.

Howard gave a smile and replied, "don't worry, there's always a late addition or two, and with that, you all are dismissed for recess."

Everyone ran towards the large grass field to play while Tide stayed behind. The Mudkip tapped ruby on the shoulder with his head fin and said, "sorry about knocking you out. I was late."

Ruby smiled back and said, "it's ok, accidents happen. Do you...wanna go run around for a bit and stretch our legs?"

Tide's face lit up like the sun and replied, "thanks, I don't have a lot of friends, and I want people to talk to!"

The Fennekin's face went blank for a moment, Tide's words seemed familiar to her, or at least they were words from someone she knew. That nagging sixth sense she had when she remembered her name with Jed, but nothing new came to her.

"Ok, let's go!" Tide shouted as Ruby snapped out her daze and followed after him…

Blake was exhausted after her first session with Xavier, but she had managed to lift something with her psychic powers. A small box was all she could manage before she got a headache and had to stop. She had decided to join the guild yesterday since being on an exploration team seemed like a good option until her memories came back. Not to mention helping those in need felt like something natural to her, not that she could explain why it felt that way to her. Now Belle was trying to find her an easy first assignment.

Now she was sitting on the beach with the massive black cleaver when Carver came by for his sunset walk.

"Doing alright, Blake?" Carver questioned.

"Yea, just want some time alone," Blake requested.

Carver nodded and replied, "ok, just be sure to be back before nightfall; by the way, Bell said that she found a job for you" before walking away.

The Meowstic then sat the large black object in front of her. Her paw was just a nub so she couldn't hold things very well.

Blake focused her psychic energy on her paw and reached out; surprisingly, the handle came out of the cleaver, revealing a long black-bladed sword with a long ribbon attached to her hilt. Her paw's fur wrapped around the handle like vines, allowing her to hold it.

The blade was somewhat long for her short stature but not unmanageable; the ribbon was loosely hanging; Blake then noticed two buttons on the blade guard and a trigger. She pushed a small button on the left, and the ribbon sucked up into the hilt; she then pressed the button on the right, causing the blade to fold up into a Sickle rapidly. Realizing what she could do with the ribbon in this mode, she tossed it down the beach as the ribbon extended with it.

Blake pressed the buttons again, returning to sword mode before trying the trigger; tapping the trigger caused the blade to fold up and a hole to appear in the hilt. She pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. She held the trigger back for a few seconds causing the front of the guard to fold open, revealing a barrel and an empty metal cartridge.

Now that she had tried all the features, Blake changed it back to sword mode and tested swinging it. The weight and feel were familiar, and then the weapon's name came to her.

Blake stared at the object; a select memory had come back to her as she said, "Gambol Shroud...this is my sword…."

Author's note- Blake just got a little more of her memories back. However, Ruby's is more locked away…

Since that interaction with Tide might give people the wrong idea, I will go ahead and confirm that Blake and Ruby are the only RWBY characters here.

Hmmm. A special guest to talk about exploration teams, I wonder who that will be….hehe. It's not Ampharos; that's still a bit off.

How Blake holds her sword is just my fan creation, so Gambol Shroud isn't useless...

NEXT TIME-Blake goes on her first exploration team job with Viel, while Ruby and Tide head to the Drilbur Mine!
