Chapter 10

Disbelief

Ruby and Tide were waiting for Mr. Howard to arrive from his lunch break when John spoke up from the back of the class and asked, "Hey Ruby, where are you from?"

The Fennekin went wide-eyed, only for Tide to add on with "yea, where are you from Ruby, you just…."

"That's enough. When you start, you'll never stop, so don't" John cut Tide off.

Anna shook her head and said, "I was wondering that as well?"

Darwin made a leap and said, "are you from Lively Town…..A city pokemon? So sophisticated!"

Anna glared at the Shelmet and said, "Jed is hardly a city type; I think you're going in the wrong direction."

"So, where are you from?" John pressed.

Ruby was frozen in place as she thought, "what do I do? They'd be shocked if I told them the truth….but lying won't help me either…"

Ruby took a deep breath and said, "I'm not from this place….I'm a human…."

Everyone gasped as a deathly silence filled the area; Anna broke the silence with, "but you clearly are a pokemon?"

Ruby shook her head and clarified, "I used to be human; I woke up here as a pokemon with no memories…."

There was another period of silence before John started laughing, over and over again, with "HAHAHA Telling lies to get attention, that's rich! humans only exist in fairy tales."

Ruby sulked down in embarrassment as Mr. Howard walked in; he had only just arrived to hear John's laughing.

"What's so funny" The Farfetch'd asked.

"Ruby is telling lies, huge whoppers!" John replied between laughs.

Before Mr. Howard could respond, Principle Ellen, who had also come after hearing John's laughter, said, "That's quite enough."

John quieted himself down instantly, after the incident at the drilbur mine; he had been grounded for a week and given enough chores to take away all the free time he had, so even he was cautious about his words.

Principle Ellen's everlasting smile continued with, "maybe what Ruby said is a lie, maybe it's not. In recent history some unbelievable things have happened, 10 years ago, a falling star nearly destroyed the world, and just over five years ago, time itself was nearly destroyed, I urge you children keep an open mind on what is possible….then again I didn't even hear what Ruby said"

The rest of the day was without incident, and Tide said that tomorrow he would take Ruby to his favorite place in the village...

Alex arrived at the top of the canyon where Paul was waiting; Koh was staring out at the setting sun like usual.

"Good to see ya. Has he said anything?" Alex greeted Paul.

The Charizard shook his head and replied, "Nope, he'll speak when he's ready."

Just then, the air went colder for a sec and Paul turned around, seeing a pair of red eyes in his shadow, out of Paul's shadow a frightening pokemon, but Paul and Alex were unphased by his arrival. This new arrival was a dark purple, bipedal Pokémon with a roundish body. It had red eyes, a wide mouth curled into a sinister grin, and pointed ears. On its back were numerous spikes, and it had smaller spikes on top of its head, similar to tufty fur. Its arms and legs were short, with three digits on both its hands and feet. It also had a stubby tail.

"Good to see you again, Guise," Alex greeted.

The Gengar frowned for a second, but then he managed to smile and say, "yeah...you too."

"KWAAAAAH" Koh shouted as the Xatu spread his wings before turning around and saying "thank you all for coming"

Alex nodded and said, "If you had something to tell us, why didn't you just warp to Lively Town? Paul and I were there for a whole month, and Guise could meet us there too."

Koh shook his head and replied, "this is something that only you, Paul, and George should know…."

The Gengar winced at the mention of his real name as Paul pressed, "Ok….what do we need to know."

Koh turned his back to them and faced the sun again as he began, "three weeks ago when I was meditating, I felt a disturbance in this world, and soon after feeling of darkness….then my vision was cut off. Something like this has not happened since Alex arrived in this world five years ago."

All three former human faces were filled with concern as Koh continued, "I was unable to glean any more images, but darkness is no doubt approaching, another calamity, one on par with the falling star and the temporal crisis. Is on the horizon."

Guise gasped and said, "you've got to be kidding me!'

Paul's face hardened as he said, "ok…..how long?"

"In just under 9 months, the architects of this calamity will make their first move; any more information is beyond my sight for now," Koh conceded.

Alex sighed as he said, "of course…..is there anything else you have for us to work with?" the Haxorus wasn't disappointed with Koh, as the Xatu wasn't the only one who struggled with unclear visions.

Koh nodded and said, "the disturbances were in two different locations, rifts opened, not unlike how you arrived in this world….two more former humans have arrived in this world."

Alex and Paul gasped while Guise facepalmed and said, "Of course, more of us...that's just what we need."

"One arrived on the Grass Continent, the other on the Water Continent, though their locations are unknown to me," Koh finished.

Paul and Alex gave each other a nod and replied, "we'll find them, and we'll stop what's coming."

"The two you seek are critical to stopping this calamity...I wish you luck," Koh assured them before falling silent and staring at the sun again.

Paul pulled out his teleport gem and warped away; before Guise could fade away into the shadows, Alex grabbed him by the shoulder and said, "Hey, if you don't want to help, that's fine, but your welcome, to help if you want."

The Genger gave a light smile and replied, "I…..don't want to get in the way, but if I find anything suspicious, I'll tell you…."

Author's note- pretty heavy foreshadowing….

1. Guise is the Gengar from Red Rescue Team, and his human name, George, is a reference to a certain horror movie with a creepy smiling monster.
