Chapter 11
Needed Conversations
After school, Ruby and Tide headed through the plaza and across the small wooden bridge leading to their houses. Ruby then followed Tide all the way up a hill with a large tree, overlooking the entire valley where Serene Village was.
Both of them sat down in the grass as Tide explained, "this is my favorite place in the village; it's so peaceful."
Ruby gave a smile, the clouds were rolling by, and a gentle breeze was blowing through; it was an amazing place.
"That was a close call; thank goodness Vine and Wave showed up," Ruby admitted.
TIde nodded and replied, "yea, it's pokemon like them that make me want to join an exploration team."
"I really think that I would like to do so as well," Ruby admitted.
Tide gave a surprised look and said, "really….it's been my dream my whole life, and I'm glad you have the same desire"
Ruby nodded and explained, "helping pokemon in need...it seems like it's what I should be doing...I just can't explain why."
"Speaking of which...that stuff you claimed about...were you really telling the truth" Tide questioned; like many others in the class, he had assumed Ruby was making it up.
Ruby shook her head and replied, "no, I'm telling the truth, even if no one believes me."
Tide nodded and said, "ok, I believe you."
The Fenniken looked confused as she replied, "wait...really, just like that?"
Tide nodded and replied, "yup, after seeing you burst into rose petals, I had a feeling there was something different about you, and this would explain why you seem different."
Ruby smiled and said, "thanks...so how does one start an exploration team?"
Tide shook his head and replied, "as Vine and Wave said, you join a guild to get training; the one on this continent is in Lively town, but you can't join until you are at least 16. It's 14 on the grass and sand continents, while the mist continent made the limit 17….im only 12, so I have to wait"
Ruby nodded; she didn't know exactly how old she was, but according to Jed, she was schooling age, so she was probably around 12 as well.
The two then relaxed for a few more minutes, noticed the sun was starting to get lower, they headed home.
Just before they split off, Tide said, "don't worry, none of the other students may believe you being a human, but I do, and your secret's safe with me."
Back on top of the hill, a pokemon appeared in a cloud of mist; it was a bipedal, frog-like Pokémon. It was mostly dark blue with a yellow chest, a white triangular marking over each eye, a light blue four-pointed star on each thigh, and yellow on the lower half of its face. It had red eyes with white pupils, and its mouth was hidden behind a large, pink tongue that wrapped around its neck and extended outward behind its head. Running down the middle of its head was a fin-like extension, and there is a similar fin on each side of its head. Light blue webbing connects its head fins. There was a large, white bubble-like bump on each elbow and knee. Its back feet had two toes, while its front feet had three toes. Each digit has a bulbous tip and yellow webbing.
"Now then, let's see if Ruby Rose really is here," the Greninja said in a calm female voice.
As Alex teleported into the Wigglytuff Guild, he pocketed his expedition orb and headed towards the ladder, only for Belle to appear in front of him.
"I need to speak with you," Belle said in an impatient voice.
Alex shook his head and said, "it can wait, right? I need to go talk to Blaze."
"No, it can't wait," Belled stated firmly.
Alex sighed and said, "fine, what is it"
Belle looked around before teleporting them both to her room and locking the door with telekinesis, causing Alex to look wary.
"What's with the secrecy?" Alex asked.
Belle sighed and said, "the newest guild member Blake, washed up on the beach with amnesia, no memory of who she was or where she's from, and according to Oleanna, she didn't even know what a pokemon was"
"What are the odds?" Alex joked, but despite the similarity to his arrival in this world, he didn't consider the possibility yet.
Belle continued with, "not only does she have a color of fur unlike any other Mewostic, but after two weeks of her photo being on the nexus, no one has contacted us."
Alex realized where the Chimeco was going with this and asked, "do you have any more evidence to back up your theory?"
Belle nodded and said, "she has been going to Xavier in treasure town for psychic training despite being a pokemon that should have at least some basic psychic skills. Her amnesia doesn't completely explain her lack of instincts, and her brain waves are very similar to yours."
Alex turned his back and said, "an old friend of mine has given me some intelligence that another former human may have arrived, so I'll meet with her and shake her paw. That should give me all the proof I need."
Belle nodded and said, "thank you, I'll keep this between us until after you know for sure."
"Does anyone else know?" Alex questioned.
"I've only told Carver what I've told you, and he has the same theory," Belle admitted.
The Haxorus headed for the door and said "good" before walking out without another word.
As soon as the door shut, Belle frowned. She couldn't read the former human's mind, but it was clear something was bothering him, even before she told him about Blake. Hopefully, it wasn't anything too bad, but Belle was far from at ease. Alex hadn't acted like this in years, specifically when he learned that Someone had masterminded temporal Tower's collapse, and that sense of hyperfocus and coldness had only intensified until he defeated Darkrai.
Author's note- a bit of a slower chapter...
1. Looks like a certain someone has arrived to spy on Ruby, we'll see what happens
2. Wonder why Alex wants to shake Blake's paw...hehe
3. Leave a review, I want to know what people are liking about this story and what I can improve on
Next time- Ruby runs off to nectar meadow in search of a missing pokemon while Blake formally meets Alex, and then has a rather important chat with him...
