Chapter 2 - Awakening Part 2

A hero is chosen because of who they are, not what they possess.

An unknown figure watched as Izuku fell down the hole. They watched as he made his way through the maze of tunnels, they watched as he willingly threw himself into danger, they watched him be a hero.

The figure smiled, they think they have made the right choice, but they still need to wait from Izuku to get to them. The figure was excited to meet the next potential Power Ranger.

Izuku was having a hard time climbing the cages, it wasn't that he couldn't figure out how to do it, Izuku had actually managed to bring everything into a pattern, no, it was the fact that his body was getting tired. He had broken his phone in the fall so he couldn't check the time, but he was guessing it was starting to get late.

Izuku had made it halfway up the cage staircase by now, he didn't know just how far up it went, but he could only assume that it was still a long way up before he could get out. Izuku decided to take a break and rest for a little bit on top of one of the cages. He also took the time to look around and see if there was anything that could help him.

Looking around he saw a tunnel entrance on the wall closest to him. Izuku felt strange, it was like something was calling him to jump into the tunnel, it felt almost instinctual. Izuku tried to ignore it but he felt like there was something really important there, so he jumped over to it. It wasn't a far jump, only being a quarter of a meter long, but it didn't make the jump itself any less scary.

Izuku easily made the jump and landed in the tunnel. "Ok, where do you lead, and why am I so interested in you?" Izuku said as he slowly walked down the tunnel.

The figure watched as Izuku entered the tunnel. They liked that Izuku was being cautious since, if they remembered correctly, there was still one more goon technically on the loose. Or two if you thought about the one that fell, but they were just going to say he was knocked out from the fall for Izuku's. Izuku was on the right track and soon enough he would make it to the lair. The figure secretly hopped that Izuku would hurry up, they wanted to meet him personally.

Izuku had shown down. He was starting to get worn out and needed to take this carefully, he didn't want to get taken out by one of the goons when he was so close to getting out.

He was thankful he was moving slowly when he came across the third goon. He was in a small makeshift shelter in the cave system, there was food, water, sleeping bags, you name it. The goon was gathering all of the resources he could, "I gotta get out of here, the mission was a bust and the captives have escaped. I need to get out of town and lay low for a while. Oh man, this was supposed to be an easy job, I didn't think things would take this kind of turn, I didn't think things would end up like this." The goon spoke to himself in a worried tone, it was obvious that he was scared, but Izuku could let him walk away Scot free either, not only that but it was the only way forward so Izuku would need to deal with him in some way.

Izuku decided that it would be best to knock him out for now, he didn't want the man to get away with what he was doing, but at least he could vouch for him not wanting to have things turn out this way in court.

Izuku snuck up on the goon quickly, he didn't know how he wasn't detected but at the time he didn't care either. He raised his pipe over his head and swung it downwards, hitting the goon on the head, making him fall unconscious instantly. Izuku did a quick check to see if he was hurt, thankfully it didn't look like he did any damage to the man's head.

Izuku then got up and slowly made his way through the rest of the tunnel, until he came across a door he could only describe as 'straight out of a si-fi movie'. It was around twice as big as a normal door, it was cut down the middle horizontally, and the combination of the metal and the lighting on the door only made it look super futuristic.

The figure was now super excited, Izuku had reached the door and was about to enter. They knew all about him already, but they didn't want to scare him to death so they decided not to start the conversation with that, a simple introduction would do for a conversation starter.

The door opened in front of Izuku slowly, it was probably due to minimal usage, but that wasn't what Izuku was concerned about. On the other side of the door Izuku saw what he could only describe as 'an alien laboratory of some kind', he wished that he wouldn't have to mentally make any more si-fi references.

"Hello there." A female voice said, "My name is A.V.A.I. but you can just call me Avi." The voice stated. After Avi said her name all of the lights in the room turned on. Izuku was now able to see everything in the room. There was two desks that each had several panels for different purposes but Izuku didn't know what they all did yet. The other most notable thing in the room was a large see through tube that sat in front of one of the walls, it was positioned so that it was at the middle of the wall, and therefore the middle of the room. Izuku didn't know where the voice was coming from until the tube started to glow and soon enough Izuku saw a female figure standing inside of the tube, well flouting inside of the tube.

The figure was pure blue, everything other than the robe that they were wearing was some shade of blue, while the robe was a dark shade of brown. From what Izuku could see the figure was around 5'4, had long hair and unfortunately no other features you could call important other than her being blue.

"So?" Avi said from inside the tube, "Aren't you going to introduce yourself or are we going to skip that part?" She asked. "Wh-what do you mean skip that part? And where am I?" Izuku was going to ask more questions but was interrupted by Avi whom said, "Well as for your first question, I kind of already know almost everything about you." This only made Izuku feel even more uncomfortable, "And for your second question, well that will be explained when I talk about why I brought you here." Avi stated. Izuku didn't like that, he felt like this was some kind of trap for getting involved in what was going on. He didn't want to make it obvious though if it was he had a higher chance of surviving if he acted woefully unaware.

"So, first a quick history lesson. Have you ever heard of the Power Rangers, Super Senti, Pretty Crue, or anything like that?" Avi asked, Izuku then nodded, "Yeah, they were stories about people who protected the planet before the age of quirks, but they were just that, stories." Izuku replied.

"And that Is where you are wrong my friend. They were real, every last one of them." Avi said. Izuku was confused, he didn't understand where she was going with this or what she meant by 'They were real' because they could have been some kind of tv series and that would still count, right?

"They all protected the world long before the age of quirks. They were the uncontested guardians of earth. Things would have stayed that way too, but all good things come to an end." Avi said, her voice became more and more somber as she spoke. Izuku could feel all of the sadness that she was feeling, he could sense that she was heartbroken. Izuku knew that this was hard for her to talk about.

"One day a group of powerful dark forces joined together and made a being so powerful that not even every last one of them combined could truly defeat it forever. The original dark forces didn't know they made something so powerful and were quickly taken out themselves." Avi said, taking a pause to collect herself a little bit. "The last survivor was my father, Zordon. He created a program that would search the world for those worthy of becoming a Power Ranger, and download all of his knowledge into it. He didn't download everything however, and as a result, made me." Avi finished. A tear slowly made its way down her face once she finished.

Izuku knew this was a tuff subject for her, he didn't want to question it, it was obvious that she at the vary least, didn't think she was lying. Avi knew Izuku didn't fully believe her, but she also knew he understood that this was hard for her to say, so he didn't think she would come up with this on the spot. Avi liked that he respected her, she liked that he thought about her, she only got more reasons why he would make a perfect Ranger.

Izuku himself was interested, he wanted to know more about the situation. Izuku also knew that pushing things to fast would result ik some bad things. "So, why did you bring me?" Izuku asked. "Oh, that's because I have decided that you would make a great Power Ranger!" Avi states in a more upbeat tone of voice.

"A, what?" Izuku asked, completely dumbfounded.

"I said that I want to make you a Power Ranger. A hero older then the age of quirks itself. Someone who can beat the odds no matter what." Avi said joyfully.

"But why me?" Izuku asked.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Avi asked confused.

"Why did you choose a quirkless nobody like me?" Izuku asked in a sorrowful voice.

"Quirkless no- WHAT!" Avi shouted.

Izuku just looked at her confused.

"Nope, Nu-uh, Not getting into that debate. Nnnnoooooooooo." Avi said with a fed up tone.

Izuku is now even more confused.

"Ok first of all. You threw yourself into a dangerous situation where you very well could have died to help people you didn't even know, and before you say that everyone would do that, I have tested hundreds of quote on quote 'Pro Heroes' and only 5% of them actually did anything." Avi said, finishing in an annoyed tone.

"Wait, what!?" Izuku half shouted in surprise.

"Yep, unfortunately the ones that actually did anything were too old to be a Ranger by that point so I just gave them a small boost and sent them on their maryway." Avi confirmed.

To put it simply, Izuku was stunned. Pro Heros choose to not help people in need. He knows that there are Pro Heros that only became Heroes for profit, but this was ridiculous.

"Not only did you help the people, but you also stayed on guard the whole time, and didn't give up any opportunities. Plus you have a good head on your shoulders too." Avi said.

"Ok that answers part of the question. But weren't there people who were more suited for the job that had quirks?" Izuku asked.

"Midoriya, if I were concerned about quirks then this situation would be completely different. I don't care about quirks, heck being quirkless shows that you are more suited for the role." Avi stated. "If anything, quirks would only be a hindrance to this new team of Rangers if they have an over reliance on their quirks at least." She said matter-of-factly.

"R-really?" Izuku asked.

"Yep." Avi answered.

Izuku wasn't sure how to handle the whole 'Quirks being a hindrance' thing. It was so weird hearing that the thing that society revolved around was something that was largely unwanted, it was something that Izuku never expected to hear.

Avi understood that it would be difficult to get used to so she did what she thought would not only help convince Izuku to be a Ranger, but also what she thought would help Izuku understand what she meant.

A panel on one of the tables opened and revealed what looked like a toy flip phone. "This device will give you temporary access to the morphing grid, it will change depending on what specifications are entered into the device, so you can think of it as a 'Demo Morpher', I will be able to take it away if you go and abuse its power for selfish purposes. But it will give you all of the powers a normal Power Ranger would have as long as you are transformed." Avi explained.

Izuku looked at her confused, then looked to the Demo Morpher, and then looked back to Avi. "Well, what are you waiting for? Take it." Avi said. Izuku then took the Demo Morpher out of the opened panel. "I will know everything you do while morphed, and I mean everything. The morph only lasts for 10 minutes as well, so if you are doing something bad I will be able to take the Demo Morpher away after your time is up." Avi stated. Izuku nodded to her in response. "Well, why don't you try it. You need to know how to Morph if you do become a Ranger." Avi said.

Izuku then looked at her confused, "Why would I want to be a Ranger. You said that they are heros from before the age of quirks, but will this help me actually be a hero, or just send me down a darker path?" Izuku asked. "You want to be a hero right? The way I see it, this is your best option right now." Avi answered. Izuku thought for a second before answering her, "Alright, how do I do it?" He asked.

Alright another chapter done!I was planning on writing and releasing this chapter yesterday, but I wanted to see your guy's recommendations. So before anything else happens, Itsuka Kendo was already meant to be a Ranger before I asked for the recommendations, so yeah, something to look forward to I guess.

But the main reason why this isn't a Super Senti story, other then the reason explained in the story, is because I have never seen any Super Senti. DX

Recommendations for a newcomer would be appreciated!

Anyways, the next chapter is the first morph, and the first 'look' at the new costume design and Ranger powers.See you then, Bye!
