Chapter Two
She steadily found herself getting used to her new home in hell, no matter how temporary she planned for it to be. It was far from peaceful, and it was often on the daily that a different demon sought her out in an attempt to harm her- not that they ever succeeded in their misplaced attempts. From her, or Alastor, they always failed one way or another.
She felt no grief over it, as she knew it was to be anticipated. She was a Priestess in a den of sinners and territorial demons. They weren't of the same breed as her last demonic allies. Without knowing how long she'd been unconscious since her descent, she half-way saw it as a miracle that she hadn't been harmed by a demon during her most vulnerable moment, but she had a sinking suspicion that Alastor might've had a hand in giving her the chance to safely awaken on her own.
He had been present the moment she awoke, but she, in reality, had no idea how long he'd been there- or if she'd even woken up in the place she'd landed. There had been no other demons around that her senses could reach, so she either got really lucky or Alastor had a hand in it.
It wasn't like she ever got a straight answer out of him when she asked, however, so she wasn't able to know for sure. At the same time, she felt like his refusal to answer was enough of an answer all the same.
And so, here she was. So far, she'd spent nearly three months in hell and she'd managed to get by just fine. Sure, there were probably dozens and dozens of demons that had gotten reduced to ash when they got too persistent on harming her, but her casualties paled in comparison to the ones that suffered death by Alastor's own hands. She was merciful to them to some degree. Alastor, however, was not.
Always quick to assure her of one thing or another, she's never had a chance to properly get any sort of answer out of him as to… well, what fate exactly greeted the grubby demons who got a bit close to her for his liking.
"Don't you worry your lovely little head, Darling," he'd always say with that cheerful laugh. "I'm merely looking out for you like a good friend does!"
No mention or even acknowledgement to the Lovecraftian horror creature that had just dragged whatever demon to whatever fate Alastor thought up for them. At this rate, she was hesitant on if she even wanted to know the answer that would be given, should he choose to finally let it spill.
She decided to take it with as much grace as she could that he seemed to protect her as much as he did. Both of them knew she didn't need it. He'd often joke and jab about not needing to step in, but he kept at it. It'd become a norm for them and she was happy that he extended the effort in the first place.
She also learned very quickly of the Cleanse that happened every year. Enduring it had been easy for her, but, then again, she wasn't a demon. She could combat better than they did, considering she still had her scared energy and abilities.
Being here in the first place was far from ideal, but there wasn't a thing she could do but fight to get her way out. There was no telling how long it would take, and she knew that very well. If she wanted to survive, then she needed to play it smart. There was a very good chance she might be here for a while
A manor erected of shadows and a red aura was her home. Alastor allowed her within the domain, and, soon enough, she came to see it as a sort of refuge in an otherwise chaotic world. She wasn't quite sure what it was about it, but she felt safe there, somehow. In a way, she knew perfectly well that no outside source could enter or get to her whilst she was behind the sealed doors. Alastor's frequent presence wherever she went assured her that he always kept a watchful eye out. She heavily suspected it was mostly just to get a good chuckle when she did something stupid, but she didn't want an actual answer to that. He'd most likely respond with a list of things he'd been one to witness.
At first she spent most of her time there, simply thinking about what options she had at her disposal. She had paced the ominous halls for hours on end, always knowing that, no matter where she went, Alastor was watching her with rapt fascination from the lurking shadows. It eventually became a sort of comfort for her. She knew that, if she ever wanted to speak or simply see him, then all she had to do was speak his name and he'd appear soon enough. Even in this big place, she didn't feel alone, and it was nice… in its own way.
She tried not to feel too at home, however. This wasn't where she was meant to be, she knew, and that thought always lingered in the back of her mind. It kept her from settling in too much, but even she couldn't deny…
Living like this had grown on her, if only a little bit.
At the very least, she knew that if it ended up undoable- what she knew she had to try to accomplish- then at least she had a place she felt she belonged here with a companion she'd grown quite fond of.
It was out of the blue one day when she stumbled across a tiny creature that didn't seem like it belonged in this place. Her eyes widened and she darted out from Alastor's arm the moment her blue eyes landed on the creature, paying no mind to the demons that shirked away from her at a moment's notice when Alastor followed a pace or two behind her.
He paused when she stood back up with a pig cradled flush against her chest, its tail wiggling as she held the creature like a baby.
Her expression had twisted into a slight frown. "This poor pig," she said softly as cradled it gently against her chest. Alastor peered over her shoulder with ease, a crimson gaze looking over the same creature she did. "What did it do to be condemned to hell?"
"Hmm… perhaps the sin of deliciousness?" Alastor responded, and Kagome let out a gasp, whirling around and narrowing her eyes at him. He merely smiled in response to her aghast expression.
"Alastor! I'm not letting you kill and cook this little guy!" she exclaimed. "Not a chance in hell!"
Alastor let out a chuckle. "What else do you suppose you'll do with him?" he asked. Kagome swatted his hand away and turned from him. Alastor's expression shifted into a sly smirk as he moved a bit to lean over her other shoulder so his face was right next to hers. Kagome glanced at him, a flat look on her face.
"I dunno," she said after a moment's thought. "M-Maybe I'll keep him as a pet."
Alastor arched a brow in response, and Kagome nervously laughed.
"Once I can figure out how to make sure you don't find a way to weasel him out from under my nose, that is," she added on, shifting her gaze around as she thought of what she could possibly do to keep the pig out of the tall demon's reach. "Just," she swatted his hand again with a sharp glare, "keep your Eldritch-magic hands off of him," she said, cradling this pig to her chest as she started to walk away from him. The demons that had previously been there were all gone, not a sign of one of them left behind. "Geez! I'm gonna have to get a spray bottle or something for you!"
"Don't get too attached, my Dear," Alastor chuckled as he fell in line beside her, only smiling in response to her unamused glare.
She stuck her tongue out at him. She was fully aware of how childish she seemed in that instance, but she didn't care. "You're unbelievable. That's it, I'm definitely gonna get a spray bottle and make holy water to use against you, Al."
Kagome tried hard to keep her previously adored hobbies alive, even in her new home.
She hummed softly to herself as she moved throughout the kitchen. It was a bit outdated from the one she'd grown up in. It was a lot simpler than the one she'd once joined her mother in daily as they cooked together. She figured right away that it matched up with the time from when Alastor was alive.
At the thought of outdated things, Kagome's focus shifted from the kitchen's status and to her clothing.
She no longer had her traditional garb on, and she wasn't quite sure what had happened to it. It'd been a decision she'd come to after a bit of time down here- to change what she wore. It'd been a decision laced with a desire to put her past where it was meant to be. The moment she'd decided to do so, and once she had informed him, Alastor reacted with a swiftness that she'd come to anticipate from the man.
"These clothes probably aren't helping me put it all behind me," Kagome said softly as she gently grabbed at her bottoms. She pursed her lips for a moment before sighing. She was dreading the thought of actually going out and obtaining different clothes, though. That was the only thing that truly held her back at this point.
Alastor hummed in response, tilting his head in an angle that looked awkward to the girl before him. Before she could say another word, he held a hand up and his smile widened. "If you desired to change that drab and dreary look some, then all you had to do is say so, Darling!" he exclaimed. A second later, and with a snap of his fingers, Kagome was left standing, wide-eyed and surprised, when her traditional grab was transformed into something entirely new to her.
She looked down, fingers gently prodding at the dress that had replaced her prior clothing. Once her amazement faded, she felt a wave of excitement. A second later, she clocked what he said, and she glared at him. "Excuse you? Drab and dreary?" she repeated his prior description of her attire. "You couldn't think of any way better to describe it?"
Alastor smiled proudly. "Nope!"
Her dress was light blue with a black ribbon tied around her hips. It stopped a few inches past her knees, and her shoes had even turned from her sandals and into a pair of slip-on heels. She could remember having to get the knack of walking in them down, and she knew that each time she fell in them, that Alastor got a good chuckle. It was a simple look, aside from a slight ruffle on her right side that went from her hips to the end of the dress, and she liked it. A lot of her, she knew, was just happy to be freed from those old clothes. Each time she saw herself in them, she felt like a new chain got fastened to her.
She no longer had that problem, though. With enough time, those days would be gone from her entirely. It sounded a bit nice to her.
When a hand landed on her shoulder, she abruptly jumped and spun around. A second later, her expression fell into a tired one when she heard Alastor start to laugh. "What, Alastor?" she asked as she went back to what she had been doing prior to the start she'd just received.
When she abruptly looked away from him, he craned his head to the side and took a step closer so he was able to peer over her shoulder with ease. His ears briefly brushed against her hair, one of them twitching a few times before he fixed his head back to its proper position. "Just curious as to what my little Doe is up to," he responded soon enough. Kagome halted in her actions for a moment, a small smile appearing on her face as she looked down at what she'd been making.
"I feel like I've been running into walls whenever I try and think of a solution to my problems," she said. By now, she'd tried everything she could thing of- from spells to straight up begging the jewel to right what had been done so wrongly, to no avail. She knew that she'd probably been giving Alastor one hell of a comedy show with all her begging attempts. She shook her head to clear her thoughts, her smile reappearing on her face a moment later, this one a tad bit larger than the first. "My mother used to make this for me when she could tell I was having a bad day," she continued softly. "I never had to say a word, but she'd always be able to tell..." she said, her voice nearly a whisper.
She'd sampled it many-a-times, but no matter what she did, she couldn't get it to taste the way she remembered. Sure, it tasted well enough to eat, but it wasn't what she was looking for.
"It was a language of love when she cooked for my brother and me," she continued with a fond smile on her face. It was one she'd learned with zealous joy. From cooking for her family to cooking for her friends, it was how she showcased her love, her affection, or merely just her fondness and gratitude. "I… I don't miss much from being alive," she admitted. "Just… I miss them," she added on with a soft sigh. "I doubt they even know what happened to me."
The idea of her mother forever waiting for her to return hurt her more than she could vocally express. This was the first time since her awakening here that she'd let her thoughts drift to that, and it definitely hurt. She shook her head, her previous smile shifting into a somber one at the thought.
"Rather unfortunate, huh, Al?" she said after a moment of silence. He hummed for a second before chuckling at her dry tone. "Not really a point dwelling on it, though." She said that out loud, but it was mostly for herself.
"Right you are!" he exclaimed, gripping her with both hands and spinning her around on her toes. She stumbled some, which only made him chuckle yet again. "But oh, more importantly, is it any good?" It only took her a second to remember she'd been cooking prior to his appearance.
Kagome arched a brow before she rolled her eyes. "I think it's okay. Not sure how you'll like it though," she said, "but you're more than welcome to try it," Kagome encouraged with a wave of her hand.
She said this, though she knew very well that he'd very quickly grown a liking to her cooking. It was something they often did together- her out of habit, and him joining for whatever reason he had to offer her that specific moment. She knew that, much like her, he enjoyed cooking too. It also made her happy when he eagerly sampled her dishes and joined her in changing and improving on them.
It was later that day when he told her he'd be heading out for a while. An offer of going with him had been extended to her, but she decided to turn it down in favor of taking a nap in order to rest her tired mind. She was at her wits end at finding a way out of the pit that was hell, and she had a feeling her exhaustion was showing on her face. She'd said she'd see him later and promptly gone to bed.
When she woke up maybe an hour or two later, he had yet to return. Choosing not to let curiosities get the better of her, Kagome decided to take advantage of his absence. She went to get a shower.
Once she got out she focused on toweling off her hair, seated on the side of the tub with a towel wrapped tightly around her body. A strange surge of energy she'd become accustomed to appeared as she worked on her hair, causing her to stop for a moment. She looked up, eyes landing on a glowing portal now directly in front of her. She tilted her head to the side, confused when nothing came from it. She eyed it suspiciously for a moment, standing up and in front of it as she did so
Kagome arched as she waited. Her hair was still halfway wet from her shower, and a towel had been wrapped firmly around her as her only coverings. She waited for a minute, wondering if Alastor would come through it or not, only to shrug when it looked like he wasn't. The moment she turned her back to it, she let out a sharp yelp when a hand abruptly snagged hold of her towel, and she was yanked back like a rag doll.
Kagome blinked a few times as she adjusted to getting pulled through the portal, and when the haze and swirls faded from her vision, she realized that she was now in a room full of people- only one of which she knew. Her expression went blank as several sets of eyes landed on her.
She was held suspended in the air by the back of her towel, which she thankfully managed to keep wrapped around her body by the vice-tight grip she had on it. Otherwise, she would have fallen naked to the ground by now.
"So, uh, who's the naked chick?" A voice finally broke up the silence, and Kagome shot her eyes over to a demon standing alongside the others there. Kagome stiffened up, moving her head just enough to look at Alastor.
"What the fuck, Al?" she growled at him. He was looking back at her with a frozen smile. A second later, he promptly dropped her and she landed like a sack of rocks.
"My dearest apologies, Doe," he said and Kagome picked her head up with a glare. "I guess-!"
"No! Don't do it! Don't you fucking dare!" she hissed at him. "Don't you dare make a pun, you deer bastard!"

I think of Alastor and Kagome's dynamic in this story, and my mind goes to that one tweet. [*pulls back shower curtain* are we- stop screaming it's just me-] that one.
In the next update;
Kagome meets the others. (y'know after she gets some clothes on lmao)
If Alastor's gonna be helping at the Hotel, then you can bet Kagome will be too. What she'll do, exactly, won't be revealed yet.
Maybe a glimpse at Inuyasha and the others, too? (Up until now, we've only seen Kagome's side of the story- not the rest…)
Expect some cute Charlie fawning over Kagome too.
And yes I am leading into Kagome giving Angel Fat Nuggets. The pig will show back up very soon.
Anyway, thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
