Chapter 5: America
The day had finally come. It was Izuku's trip to America to begin his second part of the training for the quirk OFA. Izuku had everything important packed up and ready to go. He then went towards the beach and saw Nana Shimura with Ryukyu in her dragon form.
"Alright. I'm ready!" Izuku said. "Are we going to the airport?"
"HA! Airport. That's funny! Climb on kid!" Ryukyu said. "Gran Torino will meet us at our destination."
"You're turning into a dragon," Izuku said, "That means…."
"Yep! We'll be taking the sky, dragon style!" Ryukyu said as she put one wing on the ground for Izuku to climb on.
Izuku then climbed on. When everyone was ready, Ryukyu began to take off. Inko waved bye to her son.
"Be safe Izuku, and be sure to write to us every day!" Inko said.
"Bye Mom!" Izuku said.
Ryukyu was then above the clouds with Izuku. Nana then turned to her grandson.
"Are you excited about this Izuku?" she asked.
Izuku nodded vigorously.
"Yea!" he answered with a big smile, "It's gonna be awesome!"
A few hours later, Izuku looked ahead. He started to see buildings all around. They were finally in New York! Ryukyu was starting to slow down as she landed near an airport. Both Izuku and Nana got off of Ryukyu as she turned herself back into her human form.
"Whoa... so many lights," Izuku said.
"Yep, that's New York for ya."
"Just uh... try not to get mugged." Nana said.
"Why would I need to worry about that?" Ryukyu asked as she roundhouse kicked someone trying to steal her wallet.
"Alright. So first, since we're staying here for a while, we're going to be renting an apartment so we atleast have a place to rest our heads." Nana said. "But first, to find where Torino went."
"Look behind you," said a voice.
The three looked to see Gran Torino.
"Wow, you've gotten shorter over the years," Ryukyu said with a chuckle.
"Hey! It's not MY fault that your dragon quirk makes you as tall as a skyscraper!" Gran Torino said.
Gran Torino then looked at the boy.
"So are you the one All Might chose?" he asked.
Izuku nodded.
"You're pretty muscular for your age," Gran Torino said.
"Well... I DID clean up a whole bunch of garbage." Izuku said.
"Well, before you start fighting villains around here, you need to learn HOW to fight villains. You can't just go around punching villains and expect it to go your way like a certain blonde I know!" Gran Torino said.
Izuku giggled at this.
"Pop quiz," Gran Torino said, "What is my quirk and how can I use it?"
"Your quirk is called jet. You use it to speed towards your opponent at high speeds as well as maneuver quickly." Izuku said.
"Well you're certainly smart for your age," Gran Torino said.
"He's definitely a smart one!" Nana said.
"I've already rented an apartment and an old garage where we can train." Gran Torino said.
"Always one step ahead of me like always Gran Torino," Nana said.
"Always looking young," Gran Torino said with a smirk.
"Now you just hush!" Nana said.
The three then followed Gran Torino towards the apartment that he rented.
The apartment seemed pretty normal and had plenty of space for all of them.
"We can make this home." Ryukyu said.
"I already put beds in the bedrooms so we can rest our heads. By the way, we should all carry a fake wallet and phone. Except for you kid since you don't have either." Gran Torino noted.
Izuku smiled.
"Alright, I'm gonna take the boy with me to train," Gran Torino said.
"Alright, let's do this," Izuku said.
"Well, looks like you're not one who whines about training," Gran Torino said, "What kind of hero do you wanna be?"
"I wanna be the hero that can save everyone no matter what." Izuku said.
"Well crap. Looks like a certain tired teacher is gonna have loads of fun with you." Gran Torino said, laughing. "I can already hear his torment."
With that, Izuku's training started to begin. The first thing Gran Torino did was teach Izuku basic fighting techniques such as punches and kicks. He then started teaching Izuku on how to chain those fighting styles together for specific situations. Gran Torino also taught Izuku about self defense.
He had also invited Mirko to train with the boy on how to evade oncoming attacks. The first few weeks were spent just with Mirko. Other weeks he would train with Gran Torino who would use his quirk and have pistols with rubber bullets. He was teaching Izuku on how to think fast.
"Keep your guard up! If this was a real villain attack you'd be dead!" Gran Torino said as he was still bouncing around with Izuku still dodging the flamethrowers as well as the rubber bullets.
"This is intense!" Izuku said, "But it's fun nonetheless!"
Nana was starting to oversee this.
"Well Jeez Torino! I don't recall you giving this much training against Yagi!" Said Nana.
"Well if the boy wants to hold his quirk he's gotta be tough," Torino told her.
While they were talking, Izuku was writing down notes on how to better evade Gran Torino's attacks
"Oh good grief. At least he's smarter than Yagi." He said.
A few more weeks passed with the training. Ryukyu began to join in on the fray. Pretty soon Izuku found himself facing all 4 of them at the same time. This was the perfect time to put all of his training to good use. To add some edge to the training, Ryukyu even transformed into a dragon.
He dodged Nana's attack and gave her a hard punch to the back. He then charged at Ryukyu, keeping his distance from her fire while also fighting off Gran Torino as he dodged Nana's kicks and punches quite well! Izuku even trained with Ryukyu flying in the air, and put all of his knowledge to good use.
Izuku managed to beat down both Nana and GT with them landing safely on the ground. Now it was Izuku vs Ryukyu while still above the clouds. With the other two gone, Ryukyu was MUCH more vicious! She was trying to shake, drop, back flip, fly upwards and everything but Izuku stuck to her like a duck on water!
Izuku then started punching her on the back trying to get her to land. All she did was to try to wriggle Izuku off but she just couldn't. Izuku basically had a death grip on her.
"I tap out!"
After a few minutes, everyone was getting tired. Izuku then sat down as Ryukyu landed safely. Ryukyu then turned back into her human form with her back aching from Izuku's punches as he himself fell backwards from his adrenaline fading.
"Round 2?" Izuku asked while panting.
"Not right now. You're gonna want to rest before continuing. Over exerting yourself will only do more harm than good." Gran Torino said.
"He's right Izuku," Nana Shimura, "Even the strongest hero needs their rest."
"Hmmm, ok," Izuku said.
"I think we'll go on patrol tomorrow." Gran Torino said. "One of the reasons we brought you here is because America's laws are much different than in Japan. In America, as long as you have permission from a pro hero, it's all good, with Japan, you must have a license to do hero work at all."
"That explains people using their quirks 24/7," Izuku said.
"Yep," Nana said.
Later on that day, Izuku decided to get on the computer and video chat with his mom.
His Mom immediately picked up.
"Hey Izuku! How's your trip?" Inko asked.
"It's going good so far Mom!" Izuku said, "I love America hehe."
Inko smiled.
"Is grandma taking good care of you?" Inko asked, "She isn't being too rough with training is she? You know how she can get."
"Cut me some slack Inko," Nana said as she appeared on screen.
"Mother..." Inko said as she glared.
"It was Ryukyu! She's the one who brought us all up into the sky for Izuku to fight us all off!" Nana said as she slapped her hand onto her mouth.
"You WHAT?!" Inko shouted.
"Crap." Izuku said.
"Oh no," Nana said
"Izuku I am so..." Inko began.
Izuku closed his eyes awaiting the lecture.
"SO PROUD OF YOU!" she said while crying
"Wait, what?" Izuku asked as tears started pouring through the computer.
"You're working so hard for this," Inko continued, "But please be careful out there."
"Yeah, tell that to Star and Stripes!" Nana said.
Inko smiled. Her son was starting to make a difference at such a young age.
"When you get home I'm gonna give you a big hug," Inko said
"Hopefully not break my spine." Izuku said, chuckling.
"Speak for yourself, asshole!" Ryukyu said.
"RYUKO! LANGUAGE!" Nana shouted, covering Izuku's ears.
"Says the girl who called me a ja-" Ryukyu said before having her mouth covered.
"Don't. Repeat. That. Word." Nana said.
"You two never seem to have changed." Inko said as both her and Izuku simultaneously sweat dropped.
