RWBY: Pokémon Rise of Evolution
An: Alright, so, this has been bugging me for a while now, so I decided to do something about it and write it down. I hope you guys enjoy it. I've been on a Pokémon kick all weekend, so this is the result.
Also, I'd like to give a huge shoutout to ZeroTheOne for all his help with this project. He's helped me work out a lot of kinks that have popped up in writing this. Also, more props to him, as he's the one who thought up the name for this story. So, without further ado, here's the story!
Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon or RWBY.
Chapter one- Arrival at LaRousse City
Ash Ketchum and his friends, May and Max Kaori and Brock Harrison, stared around at the massive technological marvel of a city. Having traveled to LaRossue City to participate at the Battle Tower, the fifteen-year-old Pokémon trainer had been told of the City's technological advancements, but he wasn't prepared for just how advanced the city really was.
The group of four (five counting Ash's best friend/companion Pikachu) walked out of the LaRousse City station with their shiny new passports, which were apparently needed for everything within the city. They were all in high spirits as they took in the massive architecture. Well, all but one was.
May stared down at her picture on the passport in exasperation. "Don't think I'll be sending this one home," she muttered to herself.
Meanwhile, Ash was looking around at the towering buildings. "I wonder which way is the Battle Tower?" he wondered aloud. As he was looking up, he wasn't looking where he was going and walked right on a moving sidewalk. The Pallet Town native cried out in surprise as he tripped and barely caught himself from faceplanting. Pikachu cried out as well as he repositioned himself to not fall off Ash's shoulder.
The others noticed his predicament quickly. "Ash!" May called out.
"What is this? A moving sidewalk?" Max mused as he observed the sidewalk's two-colored coated treadmill-like sidewalk. Ash, meanwhile, finally picked himself up and observed the tracks heading further into the city. Turning his head, he noticed an identical set of tracks heading back to his friends, so he quickly made his way to those tracks. He crossed the margin and stopped on the green track with a sigh.
He heard a light giggle behind him. He turned and was stunned by the person behind him. She was tall and had bright red hair tied up in a high ponytail. Her green eyes sparkled with mirth. "My apologies," she told him. "I wasn't trying to laugh at you; I was just remembering my first time in LaRousse City."
Ash smiled back. "Hey, no problem! I'm Ash, by the way!" he introduced himself. He held out his arm, and Pikachu quickly raced down his arm. "And this is Pikachu!"
"Pika-chu!" the yellow mouse Pokémon exclaimed, holding his paw up. The redhead giggled.
"It's a pleasure to meet you!" she said with smile. "I'm Pyrrha Nikos! Nice to meet you!"
The two had reached the end of the track at his point. Ash stumbled a bit as he stepped back on unmoving earth while Pyrrha walked off with expert grace. Ash quickly regained his balance and smiled at his friends. "Hey guys! This is Pyrrha!" he introduced. She smiled and was about to greet them, but then…
"Hello, my dear redheaded goddess!" Brock said suavely, holding her hand while on one knee. Pyrrha stared at him in confusion for a moment as he continued, "It's an honor to be in your presence! My name is Brock! May I have the-"
"Oh, good grief!" Max growled as he jumped up and grabbed the former Pewter Gym leader's ear, making the teen cry out in pain. "Can't you control yourself for even a second?!"
Ash and Pikachu shared a sigh as Max dragged Brock away from the confused Pyrrha. The Kanto native turned to Pyrrha and smiled apologetically. "Sorry about him. He's always like that," he explained. Pyrrha smiled and shook her head.
"Oh no! It was nothing!" she assured him. "I'm used to it!"
May sighed at Brock's once again failed attempt at wooing another woman before turning her gaze to the newcomer. The redhead wore a bronze circlet with a ruby gem in the center and chains dangling from its sides, as well as a red, long-sleeved cardigan under a beige flak jacket, which seemed to be modified to hold her Pokéballs, letting May assume she was a Pokémon trainer. Her legs were clad in camo pants the same color as her flank jacket and her feet were covered with what May could only assume were military issue boots.
She was about to introduce herself when a new voice spoke up: "Yes. She gets at least 10 of those a day!" Pyrrha turned around and smiled.
"Rafe! Sid!" she said happily. "And Audrey and Kathryn! It's so good to see you!"
"Pyrrha!" the twin sisters cried out happily as the rushed over to hug her. Pyrrha knelt down and hugged them.
"So, you met Pyrrha, huh?" The boy, who was around the same age as Ash, asked with a smile. He was wearing an all-blue suit with black shoes. "She's too nice for her own good at times, but my sisters adore her, so I can't say too much about it." He noticed Ash's Pikachu and grinned. "So, I take it you're here for the Battle Tower as well?" Ash grinned back.
"Sure am! I'm Ash! And this is Pikachu!" Ash explained, with Pikachu raising a paw to greet the teen.
"I'm Rafe," Rafe introduced himself. He pointed to his friend. "And this is my friend, Sid." The slightly dark-skinned male smiled and waved. He wore a dark shirt and beige shorts and a red headband.
"Nice to meet you!" Sid said exuberantly. "Nice Pikachu, man! My main's Blastoise!" Ash was immediately interested.
"Blastoise, huh? He's a powerhouse!" Ash's grinned widened as he stared at the two. "So, you two want to battle?" Rafe's grin matched Ash's.
"I would love to! Let's head to the Battle Tower!"
"So, we're finally going to settle it today, are we, Rafe?" another voice called out behind the ground. They group turned to see a young woman about Brock's age walking off the moving sidewalk. She had long, tied up purple hair and wore a light pink short-sleeve shirt and grey pants. She had blue eyes behind stylish glasses and had a laptop balanced on one wrist.
Brock, predictably, was over the moon. "Hello, my bespectacled beauty!" he gushed, clasping his hands near his cheek. He jumped after her exclaiming, "I'm Brock-!"
"HOLD IT!" Max shouted as he reached up and grabbed Brock's ear again. Brock cried out again as he struggled to stay up as Max pulled him back. Sid laughed at the scene.
"Looks like your friend has really fallen for Rebecca!" he said, grinning. "She's a powerful Metagross trainer; likes to use her laptop for strategy!"
"She does, huh?" May mused, impressed by the older girl. "Anyways, my name's May! And this that's my brother Max." She then noticed Sid staring at her intently. She started to get worried. "Um…yes?" Sid continued to stare at her for a moment before he smiled at her.
"You know, you're kind of cute," he told her, making the young coordinator flustered.
"Kinda…?" she asked uneasily. Max, having finally got Brock to calm down, noticed this and smirked. He pushed his glasses up, making the sunlight reflect off of them, making him look evil for a moment.
"And kind of crazy too," he mumbled.
May smacked him upside the head.
Meanwhile, Pyrrha looked up and noticed Rebecca and smiled. "Hello, again, Rebecca!" she greeted with a wave. Rebecca smirked at her.
"Ah, Pyrrha! I take it I'll see you at the Battle Tower as well?" she asked.
"Of course!" Pyrrha's smiled turned predatory. "I'm afraid my tactics are still not sufficient enough to defeat your Metagross!"
Rebecca grinned back. "Well, if you didn't main your Skarmory all the time…"
"She's gotten me through plenty tough scrapes since I caught her, and she's more than capable to stand up to your Metagross," Pyrrha countered.
Ash listened to the byplay intently as he continued bantering with Rafe, smiling all the while. He could tell his stay at LaRousse would be very interesting.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the outskirts of LaRousse City, a young woman with a scarf wound around her shoulders and face and wearing dark clothing walked through a dark alleyway before slipping into an abandoned warehouse. Catlike purple eyes scanned the decrepit building until they landed on the other three individuals occupying it. The one wearing a white shawl turned to her. "You have the recorder?" Weiss Schnee asked.
"I do," Blake Belladonna responded.
"Great!" Yang Xiao Long grinned from under her yellow, hooded trench coat. "When did your brother say our time on air would be?"
"In a few minutes," Weiss responded. "Just enough time to set up the Wi-Fi and hook up with the networks."
"Alright," Ruby Rose said, smiling under her red cloak. "Let's get to work!"
Elsewhere, in the center of the city, a young man with blonde hair stared up at the majestic Battle Tower, placing a hand above his eyes to shield from the sun. His dark hoodie was opened to show a blue shirt and his blue jeans were rugged and tucked into his boots. A sword hung at his belt in its sheaf.
"So that's the Battle Tower, huh?" Jaune Arc mused as he analyzed the towering structure. A year of traveling this new and exciting world, and it never failed to impress him. He smiled. "Guess we're really doing this, huh Nora?" He blinked when he didn't get a response. "Nora?" He turned and sighed in exasperation.
"Ohmygosh,Rennyit'ssocute!" the bubbly Nora Valkyrie cried out in glee as she hugged some random passerby's Mightyena. Lie Ren was next to the Pokémon's owner, hand on his face in exasperation.
"Nora, this man would like his Mightyena back," Ren said to the orange haired teen.
"Butit'ssocute,Ren!Ijustwannaholditandhugitandcareforit…!" Nora babbled as she rubbed the dark type's head and scratched it behind its ears. Mightyena yipped in contentment as it leaned into her hand. The owner laughed heartily.
"Your friend really loves Pokémon, huh?" he asked. "Can't say I blame her. Plus, old Mightyena is always a sucker for a good scratch behind the ears!"
"I'm very sorry about this, sir," Ren apologized for his friend.
"Don't sweat it, kid!" the man laughed again. Jaune sighed and turned back to the Battle Tower.
"Well, at least we're here," the blonde Huntsman-turned-trainer commented when all of a sudden, his four Pokémon; Dagonite, Dratini, Axew, and his trusty Gabite; were suddenly released from their Pokéballs.
Jaune stared at them in confusion until he heard more Pokéballs opening around him. He turned to see Ren's Totodile and Meditite and Nora's Slaking, Jolteon, and Electabuzz being released from their Pokéballs. Nora stared at her Pokémon.
"Huh?" The three members of team JNPR were suddenly alert and looked around. White flashes of Pokémon being released from their Pokéballs flashed across the city.
"What's going on?" Jaune asked as he reached for Crocea Mors.
"I don't know," Ren said, coming to Jaune's side. Nora was quick to follow. "But we should keep alert."
Ash knew something was wrong when all his Pokémon were suddenly released from their Pokéballs.
He had been bantering with Rafe when their Pokémon were suddenly ejected from their Pokéballs along with the groups' Pokémon as well. He looked around and saw several more flashes around obvious Pokémon trainers as their Pokémon were released from their Pokéballs. "What the…?"
"Huh?" Rafe looked around noticed all the Pokémon and immediately became concerned. "What's happening?"
"Uh…" May looked around at her Pokémon worriedly.
"Could it be Team Rocket again?" Max asked.
"I doubt it," Brock commented. "They're not this smart."
"Hello, LaRousse City," a feminine voice called out, making everyone turn to a big screen on the side of a building. On screen was a girl a little older than Ash, wearing a red cloak. Ash couldn't make out any features of the girl, except for her eyes, which were a bright, glowing silver. "I am here to inform you of a great injustice attempting to be forced upon not only Pokémon trainers, but to Pokémon themselves."
"What is that girl talking about, Rafe?" Kathryn asked, a slight twinge of fear creeping into her voice.
"I'm not sure," he responded to her, turning to her. As he turned back to the screen, he noticed Pyrrha's eyes were wide and she was staring at the screen in shock. He narrowed his eyes at her.
"As many of you are now aware of, almost a year ago, massive world-wide distortions have been reported all around the world," the mystery girl continued. "With them has come an influx of misplaced people from a world called Remnant." Ash frowned at that. He remembered that. He had been in Johto at the time when the regional tournament had been interrupted by the appearance of one of those distortions. He remembered helping several of those people the girl mentioned, some of them even being a variant of humans called "Faunus," which were humans with animal features native to the other world.
"What most don't know, however, is that these people were not the only ones to be brought over," the girl spoke again. "The beings I speak of are called the Creatures of Grimm. Vicious, agents of destruction who care for nothing more than the complete and total genocide of humanity."
"Creatures of Grimm?" Max asked.
"What the Pokémon League will tell you is that Pokémon are more than capable to defeat them. And they're right. Pokémon are very powerful, and the Grimm can be defeated by them.
"What they won't tell you, however, is that the presence of the Grimm poisons Pokémon," the girl said.
Ash gasped at the statement, and he wasn't the only one. He heard multiple people around him, from his friends to random citizens of the city, begin speaking loudly at this. He looked to his friends and noticed the immediate concern crossing their faces. He turned back to the girl, a hard look making its way to his face.
"Prolonged exposure to Grimm, whether it be in close proximity to them or, if in combat, their claws or fangs, will cause Pokémon to become seriously ill," the girl explained. "As of now, there is no known cure for it, and depending on the severity of the toxicity they have accumulated, the Pokémon will die a very painful death." Pikachu made a little whine at this, causing Ash to absentmindedly reach up and pat his head.
"The Pokémon League, in conjunction with several militaries around the world, are in the process of implementing an ordinance for all Pokémon trainers, which would have them be used as first responders to Grimm attacks, given how they are constantly travelling, and they would be the best response against the Grimm." The girl's voice grew hard at this. "I believe this is a mistake.
"All they are doing is sending untrained children, teens, and Pokémon to die because they have become complacent at the fact that Pokémon have fought their battles for years now, and have grown lazy. And I will not stand by while they allow this meaningless bloodshed.
"I cannot stop them for implementing their plan," she continued. "But I can make sure that Pokémon trainers and their Pokémon are well equipped for any battles they may have with the Grimm."
She stopped talking as she lifted her hands to the screen, and her eyes glowed an even brighter silver as a silver glow appeared around her body. Ash tensed, unsure why he was suddenly on edge, until he heard Pikachu yelp. He turned to see Pikachu holding his head. "Pikachu?" The electric rodent didn't answer his friend as he fell off Ash's shoulder. "Pikachu?!"
Ash quickly caught Pikachu before he hit the ground and noticed all of his Pokémon, as well as everyone else's were suddenly holding their heads in pain. "What's going on?!"
"I don't know!" Brock shouted, trying to examine his own Pokémon. "They all seem to be experiencing massive migraines!"
"Could that girl be responsible?!" Max asked as he helped May with her Pokémon.
"But how?!" Rafe demanded as he corralled his Blaziken and his sisters' Pokémon together.
Pyrrha had turned her attention to her Pokémon when she saw them in pain. She returned her gaze to the screen to see the cloaked girl visibly struggling, straining against an unseen force before the silver glow around her vanished and she fell to the ground. The video cut seconds after she started falling, quickly followed by an infomercial.
Just as suddenly as it happened, the Pokémons' pain ceased. Ash was relieved. "Pikachu…are you ok, buddy?" he asked.
"…Ugh…can I get the name of the Tauros that stomped on my head?" a squeaky, slightly boyish voice mumbled. Ash blinked in confusion.
"Who said that?"
"Ash? What's wrong-" Ash looked down at Pikachu, who was staring at him intently.
"Ash?" Pikachu asked again.
"Pika…chu…?" Ash's eyes widened. The electric type became confused.
"Uh…yes…? Why are you looking at me like that…?" By now, everyone was staring at the two in surprise.
"Pikachu…you're…talking…" Ash muttered. Pikachu gained an irritated look.
"Yeah. I talk all the time! You know that!" he told him.
The sharp tone helped Ash's brain finally kick back into gear. "Pikachu, you're talking!" he exclaimed. "In English!"
"Huh?" Pikachu asked, tilting his head. "What are you-" He suddenly stopped, and his eyes widened. "Holy Arceus! I'm talking like Meowth!"
"Pikachu is talking like a human?" a boyish voice called out from Ash's side. Ash turned to see Grovyle staring at them. Suddenly, his eyes widened as he exclaimed, "Wait! Am I speaking like that team Rocket cat, too?!"
This caused all the Pokémon to start talking as well, causing massive panic to erupt within the group.
Ruby crumpled to the ground. Luckily for her, Yang reached her and grabbed her before she could hit the ground. Blake turned the camera off, and Weiss threw down the que cards she was holding as the two raced to their comatose leader.
"Ruby?!" Yang asked anxiously. Ruby groaned in her sister's arms, making the blonde sigh. She turned to her teammates and said, "She's fine."
"She lucked out. Again," Weiss scoffed. Yang snorted.
"You're underestimating her, Weiss!"
"No. I agree with her," Blake said, earning a glare from Yang. "This wasn't like Viridian City. Ruby wasn't overflowing with psionic energy here, and even then, she almost killed herself."
Yang frowned at the two and was about to retort when a boyish voice growled at them: "They're right. Ruby shouldn't have done this so early." Yang growled.
"Ruby's stronger than you think, Drei!" she barked, looking down at an Eevee, who glared back at the blonde.
"Yes, she is, but she's still new to her new abilities," the evolution Pokémon snipped. He motioned to a rundown office and walked towards it. Yang frowned but complied by picking Ruby up and following after the Eevee.
"You four still have a lot to learn about your new skills," Drei continued as he waltzed into the office. Yang and the others followed behind him. He jumped onto a bed and turned to Yang. "We warned you to go slow, but apparently, you four don't get that concept very well, do you?"
"Don't lump us in with those two, Drei," Weiss grumbled as she walked over and fell into a lumpy recliner. Drei huffed.
"You're way more stubborn than Ruby is, white mane," he told her, making the heiress frown at the Pokémon. Yang placed Ruby on the bed and carefully removed her cloak.
As it came off, Ruby's form glowed white for a moment before fading to reveal the black portion of her hair had faded to a light pink with two, catlike ears on top of her head, and a tail that had formed behind her.
AN: What a twist! I hope you are all interested in this story. Just what's happened to Ruby? Why is team JNPR Pokémon trainers? These answers and more as this story unfurls!
Again, big shoutout to ZeroTheOne for his help with this story! 'Till next time!
