Ruby was walking through the forest all by herself.

Today was really not her day.

First, what Headmaster Ozpin told them almost broke her.

Now, she was all alone in the forest, not a single life in sight.

Well, other than the plants that is.

"Yang, where are you?!" She shouted through the forest, but no answer. "Yang!" She shouted again, but no answer once more.

She wasn't really a fan of the system the Headmaster told them. The person you make eye contact with will be your partner? What the heck was that all about? What is the person wasn't as good-hearted as her? What if that person was already spoken for? There were so many things going through her mind right now.

Well, first, there was her sister, but she was as protective and as bombastic as their father, so no thank you for that.

Blake was free though; she was somewhat nice to all of them, but she was too quiet and engrossed in her own little world that was absolutely full of books; some of which she identified as erotic literature, if that was what its called, and Ruby wasn't really the one to talk on that front, as she was...well, she was shy in some cases.

In short; Blake had a mysterious aura around her and unmistakably very calm.

Jaune was also free, but seeing both that redhead and him, she was pretty sure he had already been taken by Pyrrha Nikos herself; the four-time Mistral Tournament Champion. Damn, she was too slow on the uptake, and now, the last one had been taking from her.

Skidding to a small clearing and out of her musings, she saw a very familiar face; one she was acquainted with before.

"Oh...hey, Weiss..." She said as Weiss just let out a sigh after a few seconds of heavy tensions.

"Well come on then," She said as she pulled Ruby's cape and went on into the shrubbery and deeper into the forest itself. "This still doesn't make us friends, you know." She called back over her shoulder.

This was her life now, she guessed.

Good thing Jaune saved him on the time that she was again talked to by Weiss, by saying that her weapon was pretty good in its making, and she was somewhat flattered by it. Nevertheless, she was hopeful of their future team, since there were two more slots for more team members!

Ren was just dusting off his clothes after killing a King Taijitu when Nora came out of the bushes of the tree and made a sloth sound.

"Nora, I think sloths don't sound like that." He said with a faint smile on his face.

And his reply was a 'boop' to the nose by Nora.

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

Jaune snagged his parachute on some branches and let it dissipate through blue particles, then used the branches to jump one-by-one to the bottom of the tree and into the ground.

Man, that was actually fun! He never got to experience that until today.

Unsheathing his sword just a little bit for a quick headstart just in case fighting started, he scanned his surroundings as he walked towards the northern edge of the forest.

And action was just around the corner.

With his spatial awareness training, he then ducked from a swipe a Beowulf and quickly unsheathed his sword to get inside the bubble of the Beowulf and slash him first up, then down and swiped side before backing up and then slashed completely on the Grimm, all in four fast moves. The Beowulf then got its body parts slowly detached from its body until it dissipated into dust. Man, to meet a Beowulf as his first Grimm; this was getting a bit dangerous than usual.

A few walks and an Ursa Major chopped into sashimi later, he met what he was looking for, and her to him.

"Well...it seems that we are partners now." Pyrrha said to him.

"I guess so." He replied.

The duo then walked towards the way where the temple was.

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

Yang performed a textbook back-handspring away from the wild Ursa that tried to swipe her head off from her shoulders.

"Jeez, you two couldn't hit the broadside of a baa..." She then saw a single piece of her hair falling to the ground.

And cue angry semblance.

"YOU MONSTER!" She shouted as she pummeled the Grimm into kingdom come.

One thoroughly pummeled Ursa and half a clearing destroyed later, she then turned to its partner, ready to do the same to it.

"YOU WANT SOME TOO, HUH?! BRING IT THEN!" She shouted, as a meaty sch-thunk noise before the Ursa fell to the ground, a kusarigama embedded on its back. Attached to it was a black ribbon and was owned by the girl that Ruby and her had talked the night before.

"I could've have taken him, you know."

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

"You take care of the ones at the left; I'll go to the right?" She asked as they were surrounded by several Grimm, many who were ready to kill and devour them.

"Ruby, we're completely surrounded! Where the heck does left and right begin anyway?" She asked.

This time, Ruby had a bright idea up her sleeve. "We'll meet at the middle then!"

"Try to keep up." She said as she charged towards one of the Grimm.

The next thing she knew, she heard the report of one High-Caliber Sniper Scythe and a very eager teenage girl that was much younger than her killing Grimm.

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

"It's this way." Weiss said as she walked in one direction, Ruby diligently following her orders.

"I mean, it's this way!" She then walked off to completely another direction than her previous course.

Let it be known to Remnant that Weiss Schnee was lost in the Emerald Forest.

Oh, the scandal! Anyway...

Yeah, not the best time either.

"It's official! We've passed it on our way here!"

Ruby then asked hesitantly to her. "Weiss, do you think you have no idea where we're actually going."

Weiss then let out an indignant huff. "Of course not, I know where we're going! Were going...to the forest temple...I guess! Yes, that temple."

Ruby was just standing there, staring blankly at her as she said that. What was it again? "Oh, don't look at me like that, you also don't know where we're going!"

A loud screech for above made them look up and detach from their musings.

Ruby then hesitantly suggested to her. "I think...I might have an idea...But you may not like it..."

Let it also be known it was a very bad idea that Ruby actually said that.

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

Pyrrha and Jaune were now entering a temple where the depiction of the walls included humans fighting what seemed to be a giant scorpion, possibly a young Deathstalker or one of the more rare Elder Deathstalkers.

"Do you think this is it?" Jaune asked as he inspected the structure. The cave had an eerie and ominous feeling to it, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something was dangerous here. He just had to be sure. "I mean it does look like a temple, maybe a monument or something that commemorated the defeat of the enemy that many had died fighting." He finished as he inspected the walls more. Pictures describe and depict more than words, as they say. "But I need your opinion on this too."

Pyrrha smiled as she answered him. "I'll follow you if you want to progress in."

"Alright then, let's go." They then progressed inside, and as they walked in more into the cave, it was also getting dark. So, he willed a glowstick on his hand, broke it and then shaking it, and the object and making it illuminate it. The green light bathed and battled the dark cave, and at least, they could see a few meters in front of them.

"How did you do that?" She asked.

"Well, it's partly because of my semblance. I can summon a weapon on an object and then use my aura to power it more." He replied. "Of course, I can't tell you everything, it's a secret." He then shot her a playful grin, in which she replied in spades.

"Oh, yes...Don't worry, we're partners...and I'm going to know everything all about you in time." She said sensually and then scooted beside him; he could basically feel her breath in his ears and made him blush with that.

Damn, this was really going on, huh...

As they continued inside the cave, they saw a faint golden hue and they saw it clearly, and as they went in closer, Jaune decide to summon another glowstick.

The golden hue, as they came closer, had bobbed faintly in the air, more or less looking like it was floating in the air by itself. Hmm, very mysterious indeed.

He broke and shook the glowstick, and then threw it at the bottom of the hue. There they saw two crab-like appendages and a set of red eyes, looking at them and then slowly started to charge towards them; ready to kill and devour them for its own food and leisure.

The two Huntsmen-in-training then ran to the outside of the cave, with the Deathstalker behind them as it inch closer and closer to them.

Well, the battle had to begin now. He skidded to a stop and then used Reinforcement to charge at the thing. It was really hideous to look at. First of all, it was the size of maybe a Goliath if they stood side by side, Red highlighted bone forming huge, blunt ridges that covered the majority of the Grimm's back, also seeping halfway into the tail as well. Two large appendages was there as its arms that were likewise armored, and two piercing mandibles that could cut a person in half; aura or not.

Skidding to a halt and unsheathing his sword, he then did a slide under the beast's arms and then slashed it, gouging a very deep wound on it and then rolling after that. The beast then tried to swipe on his but then he blocked with the Arc shield, in which Pyrrha followed up with an attack on its face, making it stagger back in frustration. Both of them smiled as they looked at each other and sprinted in their own direction, him taking one side and Pyrrha taking another as they forced the beast to choose its target, finally making its decision as it tried once again to swipe with its other functioning arm, but then Jaune just slides under it and parried the blow just enough that it skidded him a few feet before stopping on his tracks. It then tried to attack him with its stinger, in which he dodged the blow from it.

Hah, wrong move, dipshit.

He then grabbed onto the tail just as it got its stinger out from the ground. The beast took note of Jaune as it grabbed on its tail, while also taking care of the human that had been taking potshots and hit-and-run attacks on it. Tracing Crescent Rose, he then used the sharp end of the scythe as he loaded a Gravity magazine on it and then pulled the trigger, ripping about a quarter of the Deathstalker's tail in the process. Unwilling to surrender on itself, the beast swung its still-functioning arm and then launched it at Nikos, who managed to jump over it and make a very fatal swipe on it. Now, the Deathstalker was really angry, as it swung and charged wildly at them. Pyrrha ducked and swiped under one of its arms, while Jaune targeted the place where the arm and the appendage itself had connected; the place where he placed his first slash. He concentrated on that point and did a rolling slash in the air, completely swiping the appendage of the beast, and it produced one of the loudest shrieks he had ever heard as they stopped just behind it.

But once again, the deathstalker wasn't willing to give up now, and it used its remaining arm to great effect, of course.

Giving strong and consistent swings at the two Huntsmen-in training, the Deathstalker swung quite wildly at the two and successfully knocked back Pyrrha to a nearby tree with one of its arms, and Jaune with the next swing. The two, feeling that the Grimm was really angry, started to run towards an open field; Jaune carrying Pyrrha bridal style and Reinforcing his legs to maximum power, as he sprinted towards a nearby clearing.

Hopefully, that clearing was enough to kill the Grimm.

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

Blake and Yang stood at the small, open-air structure that seemed to be what the temple looked like and what they were actually looking for. Around them were several pedestals, some of which had golden chess pieces on them, and what they were here for to yoink out, and Yang hoped this was really the relics they were looking for, or this would be all for naught.

"Chess pieces?" Blake asked.

"See it to believe it." She then noticed that some were not there anymore. "Looks like some teams already got theirs."

"Well...I guess we should pick one, then." Yang then looked around to see a knight chess piece on one of the pedestals. "How about this one?"

"Sure, why not?" Blake answered, not like it mattered which one they picked at all.

And cue the faint screaming from above.

Yang readied her weapons as she scanned around for the enemy. "Blake, where is it from?"

Meanwhile, Blake was looking straight up as she jabbed her finger upwards into the sky, and Yang followed that finger and looked right up to see...her sister falling?

Swiftly falling towards them were Ruby and Weiss, the former screaming while the latter was quietly suffering herself. Yang jumped into action and tried to catch her sister in her arms, but at the last few feet, a series of glyphs started to appear out of thin air, each one overlapping the next, making essentially a series of pseudo-stairs going down.

Both girls slid down the Hard-Light glyphs - well, falling and tumbling for Ruby - before they hit the ground safely. She was pretty sure Ruby missed the green grass of the ground.

Blake ran up and stood beside her partner. "Did...your sister just fall from the sky?"

"Ruby! Where did you come from?" Yang ran over to her sister.

"Wha?" Ruby was still pretty addled after that ordeal they just had a few seconds ago.

"We jumped off THAT THING!" Weiss told her as she pointed up.

A loud shriek was heard and for the first time noticed there was a GIANT Nevermore the size of a fucking bullhead circling on top of them.

"YOU DID WHAT?!" Yang screamed.

Suddenly, on the far side of the clearing, just where they were at, several trees started to topple. Yang heard the ferocious growling and readied herself for what was to come. It was getting closer and -

"Yeeeeehhhaawwwww!" There was a burst of purple lightning, and out of there staggered one of the biggest Ursa she had ever seen on this day. It swung its meaty paws wildly and took a few more steps out of the clearing before its legs and well, its body, gave out. A small girl with orange hair and dressed in pink was on the back, with a black-haired man with a tint of pink on his bangs and wore some kind of Mistralian outfit on him, as the gingerhead rolled off the back of the beast.

Nora looked back at the Grimm as she stood on solid ground. "Aww, horsey's broken." She said sadly.

Ren walked dizzily to Nora before saying something. "Nora...please don't do it every...again.", as Nora poked on the 'horsey' and Ren actually had to steady himself on the 'mount' Nora had acquired for both of them. He really looked like he was ready to hurl at any moment.

Yang turned to Blake with a small scowl, just as Nora ran towards one of the other knight chess pieces lying around. "Ooooohhh, a new pony for Nooorraaa!" She sang as she claimed the relic. "I'm queen of the castle! I'm queen of the castle!" She added as she placed it on top of her head.

"Did everybody but us right now rode on a Grimm?" Yang said in disbelief.

Blake just stood like a statue as she pointed the other direction, specifically to their left, and Yang being fed up by everything that they just witnessed, followed where the finger was pointing. And she wasn't really disappointed...she was kind of expecting it, really.

Suddenly, they saw two people come out of the clearing, along with a faint rumble on the far side of it. It was Pyrrha and Jaune, the former being carried bridal style and the other running as fast as he could out of the forest, with a high-pitched screech following just behind them. A few meters into the small temple and Jaune skidded to a halt after that, laying Pyrrha safely on the ground.

"So...everyone okay?" He asked, just as the Deathstalker literally burst out of the forest.

"Deathstalker." Ren said to them.

"Right, forgot about that thing." He then looked at Pyrrha. "You still good?"

"Of course." She then looked at him intently. "You have a plan?"

"Always, dear." He playfully said, as the Deathstalker charged at them with full speed.

The duo launched themselves on the beast as it tried to swing its only remaining arm to them. Pyrrha slid down first as she slashed twice on its arm, rendering it almost out of commission, just lazily hanging on it as she dodged the beast by jumping over one of its flailing arms. Jaune on the other hand, traced the scythe once again.

"Oooooh, it's my scythe! He's using my scythe!" Ruby said excitedly as the other intently watched how they basically dismantling the parts of the giant Grimm one-by-one.

He then slid down one of the claws once again and hooked the scythe onto its arm; and as it was previously loaded with Gravity Dust rounds; he fired a shot on the ground, literally cutting the arm in two and making the appendage flail as he flew in the air. He then did a rolling maneuver and finally embedded the scythe onto its head, and pummeling the scythe deeper by hitting it with his traced Magnhild, for good measure.

The synchronization between the two was pretty enormous right now. Pyrrha was almost in sync with Jaune himself, often maneuvering for an opening as both people tag-teamed the enemy. It's like they already knew what would happen next, and the follow-ups were on point as well, as after the slash that Pyrrha made, Jaune would follow up with an attack of his own, usually fatal or just plainly inconveniencing the enemy and slowly depriving it of its own power. A Deathstalker isn't one to scoff at, either. If you would put a Deathstalker in terms of how dangerous it is; you could put it in the spot where the Goliath and the Nevermore would be sitting. They were large things and strong enough to just brute force their way through almost anything. They were smart fellas too, able to do the minimum of movements and capable of increased agility among its peers.

The Deathstalker was deadly in its own right, and never to be meddled with lightly.

Well, that was that, for them.

Now, what to do with that Nevermore...

o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

"Jaune Arc, Pyrrha Nikos, Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie; you have retrieved the knight chess piece, and now will be named team JNPR (Juniper). Your leader will be Jaune Arc." A resounding applause was then heard as Nora hugged Ren and Pyrrha smiled at Jaune, him returning that beautiful smile of hers. As they went down and got back into their seats, he rested himself and almost slumped on the chair itself. The adrenaline was starting to wear out and his body wasn't really good either; the battering he got from the Deathstalker certainly proved that; but no matter, since his aura will do the rest; but he needed to sleep well today to be ready for everything tomorrow.

And also Pyrrha was leaning her head on his shoulders.

Well, that was really something though.

He just wished nothing would happen, as he watched Weiss, Yang, Ruby and Blake get christened to be called Team RWBY, with Ruby as its leader.

He was pretty sure he saw the glint of happiness in her eyes as Headmaster Ozpin said that.

Ah...this was actually the life he wanted.

And never did he resent it once. No promises though.
