HERE'S THE NEXT CHAPTER NOW, PEOPLE! HOPE YOU ENJOY THE READ!
RWBY AND FATE/STAY NIGHT ARE NOT OWNED BY ME, AND FOR GOOD REASONS.
He then spoke up, not wanting a full-out brawl on the hallway where people would be going through. "Alright people, let's talk about this like civilized people, not a full-out brawl in the hallway."
Yang and Blake were just about to retort, but then out of decency, Weiss actually followed what he just said to their room as the two teams went inside and crowded inside. Well, first of all, the beds. One bed was literally hanging on the ceiling with some sheets and ropes holding on it while the second bed under it was almost in danger because if the first bed's contraption snapped, there would be a red smear on the other bed. The second pair was more dangerous, since it was just being held up by books. I mean, if Shirou would have saw this, he would be almost furious, but then formulate a plan to not make the bedroom look like its a CBRN hazard to every single occupant in the room. Well, that's a thought for later, I guess.
Meanwhile, the B and Y of team RWBY were sitting in their own side of the bed, while Ruby was sitting in a stool and Weiss was sitting on her bed. Nora and Ren were at the door, while Pyrrha was still just there beside him, sitting down. He, meanwhile, was also sitting down in a stool, with one leg on top of another, arms crossed. He wasn't happy with what had happened himself, but it was easier to resolve it than keep it in, since keeping it deep down without speaking about it was dangerous to the person's mental health and occupancy, and may lead to some dangerous circumstances in the future, and may impede the leadership capacity of Ruby herself.
After all, what is the kingdom without its people?
"Alright, Weiss, speak up." Jaune said, breaking the silence. "What is your problem with Ruby? And why are you so mad to her?"
Weiss straightened and composed herself as she started to speak. "I should have been made team leader of this group."
Let it be known to all in Remnant that Jaune never laughed this hard in his own life, aside from a few instances.
He was almost crying as he tried to stop laughing at Weiss' answer. Pyrrha, being infected by the laugh, really tried and promised herself not to laugh, but a faint smile on her face was seen. Nora meanwhile, was laughing just for gags since they were also laughing while Ren was as stoic-faced as ever, but if you looked really closely, his eyebrow went up by a centimeter and a small huff along with a small smile would be in his face. Blake and Yang meanwhile, weren't as jolly as them; but they really wanted to laugh at the most ridiculous answer they had ever heard in their whole lives.
A scowl formed on Weiss' face after as they stopped laughing altogether. "What do you think this is funny for?!"
"Alright, next question." He was still smiling and actually wiping a tear from his eyes as he presented the next question. "What makes you think you are fit to be a leader?"
"Jaune, I have made my entire life devoted in training. This...child has done nothing to earn her position. I've studied, I've trained - Leadership is in my blood and my name, as I am a Schnee. Even after the explosion happened, I made my piece with her, and its not...personal, per se." She then looked towards the girl in question. "And I'll admit you are competent on your own, but the position should have been mine! I'd be okay if I was teamed up with you and Pyrrha, and then maybe one of you may be team leader, and I'd support that decision, but giving it to a 15-year old girl who just got to Beacon in a fluke is utterly grating to my brain and my feelings! And instead, I'm being told what to do by what seems to be a child with a large gardening tool!"
She finally ran out of steam. When Ruby raised her head to meet the heiress' icy gaze, there were hints of tears forming in her eyes. Yang was about to beat Weiss to kingdom come, black and blue, but thankfully, Blake was there to stop her, and after a few seconds, she calmed down.
"...Do you think I asked for this? Do you think I wanted to be this?" Ruby said as tears finally burst out of her eyes like a dam.
Weiss seemed taken aback by this action, eyes widening as Ruby continued. "Do you think I don't know that I'm the least qualified to be team leader? I'm not dumb, Weiss, because I know I'm not qualified for this job." She said as she wiped some of her tears with her sleeve.
She let out a self-deprecating chuckle as she wiped again her face, mostly getting the tears that rolled down her face. "I don't even know how to be a leader in the first place. Even with all of your help, I'd still be lost if Jaune and his own team hadn't been here to meditate all of this. The Gods know that I've tried being a good leader for a single day, trying to do my best to cheer you all up, but when I supported you, you just slapped me in the face with your own harsh words."
She sniffled as she wiped the last of her tears with one of her sleeves, falling silent.
Jaune swore his heart just broke in two because of that.
"Alright, Weiss. Let me ask you a question. Did you really think Headmaster Ozpin would make a trivial mistake on making Ruby the team leader?" Jaune said, cutting in with his own question.
Weiss was taken aback with this, and was actually startled as she tried to answer the question. "N-No, I tho-thought that..."
"Have you considered that maybe there was ONE good reason that was the core of this team that he made Ruby leader instead of you?"
She didn't even have the words to respond, so he took that as a yes and continued. "Weiss, you have got to remember something; this isn't Atlas. This isn't where the most pompous and the most rich gather to measure who was the biggest dick that they could swing." Everybody just looked at him. "Sorry for the wording, there, but let me continue." He then cleared his own throat. " This is Beacon Academy, a school where we sharpen our own skills and learn more about what we need to learn about. You said it in the first place; you have the blood, the experience and the capacity to be leader, and yes, you do have it. But what does it amount to in the end? A little stroke of your own ego? We're here to improve in the areas that we are weak in, and Ruby, who's been thrusted two years ahead, has no experience in leading a team and could actually use and get some leadership experience, is doing her very best in leading and cheering you all on. Meanwhile, you throw a temper tantrum because you aren't the leader?"
"Now think, Weiss. You think I wanted to be the leader of this group of mine?" He then looked at them before looking back at Weiss. "I'm not as good as Ruby in leadership, since she gets more experience in pre-prepared plans while I mostly go on-the-fly plans. Did you know I had no training with my own parents?"
Everyone now was interested in him.
"I was never trained by my parents, and every time I wanted to take up a weapon, they would forbid me from using those weapons ever again. I was treated more like a girl than a boy, and most of the tome, I would be relegated to household duties. When the time came, I escaped from the house and wrote a letter before that saying I went away to my grandfather's house. It wasn't far so, I got there and my grandfather welcomed me in. After a few minutes of question and answer, he knew the gist of why I didn't want to go back to the house. I told him of what I wanted to be in life, and he wholeheartedly supported me in my endeavors. When my two sisters, Saphron and Violet, knew of what had happened to me, they immediately came to my grandfather's house, without telling my parents, mind you and when they heard of what I wanted to be, they supported me as well. And so, I was taken to a family where they trained in the different arts and found my semblance from there."
"And now, here I am, in Beacon Academy, sitting right in front of you." He then ended it with a simple sentence.
"So, maybe instead of being envious over what you already have, you should try to improve where you are weak at. Like being a good teammate to your own partner."
He then stood up and gestured all of them to go out, leaving Weiss and Ruby by themselves.
"Come on guys, let's give them time to talk."
o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~
The door clicked shut. Weiss cradled her head on her hands as she sighed in contemplation. She then let the silence that permeated the air continue for a little while as she let everything Jaune had told her about them, what to do, and his own life and challenges he went through; she then kind of broke the ice that separated them, so to speak.
"I'm sorry, Ruby..." She said finally.
Ruby looked at her with those expressive silver eyes of hers, and she didn't like the sheen of the reflection that those eyes gave off of her image.
She let out another sigh as she continued. "I am really sorry, Ruby. I've done nothing but to be mean to you for these past few days." She fell silent again as she contemplated.
"I-It's okay..." Ruby hesitantly spoke up.
"No, it's not alright...It's just that I was raised in a very strict household. We were supposed to uphold the family name and my father was very adamant about it. My sister was supposed to be the next owner of the company, but then she ran away and joined the military, and father just disowned her after that."
She saw Ruby's expression of either shock or anger, she couldn't put her finger in it.
"I always wanted bunk beds as a kid. Father would never allow it though." She then offered a weak smile to her, then turned her head around and look at the most unholy contraption she or Jaune had ever seen in their entire lives.
She was most shocked of how much that small smile was for Ruby when she smiled back with pure, innocent happiness.
She continued on as Ruby listened intently. "When she left our home...All the responsibilities she once had were passed down unto me, and since that time, I was told to be perfect every single day, and I must uphold and hold the Schnee name in the highest form possible in everything that I had to do in my life. I need to win, and I need to lead.
Another pause ensued and she spoke once again. "And he would be just as pleased as how much and how deep he truly drilled that lesson onto my system and my ideals." She laughed wryly after that.
"I-I'm sorry too, Weiss. You must be pretty annoyed that I am a team leader than you are; a fifteen-year old and two years younger than you are."
"You're wrong, Ruby." She said as she turned around to see her. "You'll make a great leader, I'm sure."
"R-Really?" Ruby asked, and Weiss could see the hesitation, the fear and the desperation of approval that gleamed in her own eyes.
Weiss sniffed, a bit of haughtiness seeping into it, but the small and quite sincere smile that she bore just erased everything the first one ever had any meaning into. "Yes, really. And if I have to be perfect, then I'll be the most perfect teammate you've ever had in your entire life, and we'll make team RWBY the best team in Beacon!" She said.
"Oh Weiss!" There was an explosion of rose petals, and she was enveloped in a full-on bear hug, and one she quite almost hesitantly returned.
Huh...it felt strangely good, in a way. The last time that she had experienced this was her sister's last visit to the Schnee Manor, which was a very long time ago. Most of the time, she still remembered the fights her father and sister had down near the door as she left the manor once more, and she couldn't even remember if she had the chance to do the same to her sister. If they ever had, it had been very brief, but very heartwarming.
"I'll be the best team leader this team will ever have!" Ruby cheerily said as she mumbled on her shoulder. "Well, at least I could try...But with Jaune, and maybe Pyrrha helping me...I think I can do it; no, I CAN do it."
Weiss squeezed the hug a lot tighter. Huh, hugging was really nice right about now.
The door clicked open and Jaune, Yang, Blake and Pyrrha went through, the former's hand on his hip, with a smile on his face.
Weiss squawked, and tried to pry Ruby off her as fast as possible, and in pure coincidence, Ruby literally did the same thing as she did a split second later, and both of them just arrived on the floor somehow.
Pyrrha covered her mouth and giggled lightly, while Jaune was literally grinning by now, as noticed by Weiss.
Jaune then looked down on them as he grinned. "Well, is it all good now, I reckon?"
Weiss blushed and nodded as she accepted his outstretched hand and let him pull back to her own two feet, as he did the same to Ruby. She took a step back as she dusted her skirt off before speaking once again to all of them. "Shirou, Pyrrha, Yang and Blake...Sorry for my unsightly manners, and for any conflict that I may have caused to all of you and in amongst this group. May you forgive me for my transgressions, as I won't do it again."
Jaune nodded. "Don't worry, Weiss, at least you learned your lesson. If you have any issues, there's Yang and Blake and you all as a group, and I'm pretty sure you can all sort it out together. And if you can't do it with your own, we've always got your back." Pyrrha, Yang, Ruby, and Blake animatedly nodded along with him.
Weiss literally felt her cheeks burn more at his sincere words. "Thank you, I'll be sure to do so."
"Now, then...about your beds..." All of them then looked at their own bunk beds. "Could we at least help you with setting these all up so that it won't be a safety hazard for the person under the top bed?"
o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~
Jaune pounded another nail to the wall, mainly at the metal sheet and into the wood of the bedpost behind it. Pyrrha stood next to him, helping him hold up the bed while he secured the struts that would keep it aloft.
The whole of Team RWBY meanwhile, was working on Yang and Blake's bed, since those two would literally be in the way of inevitable collapse and made sure that it was already secure as the team had done the finishing touches. Ren and Nora had done their own beds inside their room, and Nora was being pretty helpful in the ongoing construction of their non-safety hazard bunk beds, and we're literally almost done, mostly because Ren was as nimble as a ninja and was very capable in his own right, while Nora was pretty much unparalleled strength and capability in her own right, as even the sounds of the head of the hammers hitting the back of the nails were still heard from the adjacent room of theirs.
"How did you do that?" Pyrrha asked.
"What do you mean, partner?" Jaune asked in return.
"Like, I thought that they were going to explode at any given moment and that we should be nowhere near the blast range, but through you, they...just became friends to each other." Pyrrha finished as she looked at Weiss and Ruby as they talked about something, just like Blake and Yang that were literally having a lot of fun talking to each other while making sure they wouldn't hit their fingers when using the hammer rather than hitting the nail they were supposed to hit. Even though it was just bits and pieces of small talk, they were still talking to each other quite happily, even though the topics they had were quite awkward at best.
But, at least there was progress.
"It wasn't hard really." Jaune lightly chuckled after that. "They didn't know what they were fighting over in the first place anyway, so its only natural that they would make up pretty quickly."
"You think it would backfire in the future?" Pyrrha asked worriedly.
"It won't Pyrrha. I promise." He placed his hand on her shoulder, in which she leaned over her head on it. "Weiss...she's a really lonely person. She is supposed to be upholding the family name of hers, so she literally has a lot of responsibilities on her hands, and she is trying to change the image of their family than what the people had actually painted it on. Really, what I think she wants, is that she wants people that she could rely on, and could also the same to her in return. She's not quick to trust, as you already saw on her, and she uses her icy exterior to try and ward people off her, but when she trusts the people she is with, and you show her that you could actually trust her and earn that trust honestly, I don't think you'll find a more loyal friend than that, really."
"Hah, in some ways maybe." He was kind of taught in reading people by Natalia and Kiritsugu, and that was partly why he mustered what he had to say to Pyrrha. The other half was what he read off Myrtenaster - the battle Weiss had been forced into when she told her own father that she wanted to go to Beacon - a prick of a father as always - and how she got the scar over her left eye, the only unsightly blemish on her otherwise perfect wise - the perfect epitome of a doll.
As they got done in their own things, Jaune dusted himself and made sure everybody was good and the bunkbeds were sure to be safe as they could be.
"Alright...now that's done..." Jaune then droned on.
"You're asking what class is next, don't you?" Pyrrha smiled at that as Jaune nodded.
"It's combat class..." Weiss said.
"But we must have lunch first!" Ruby then finished the sentence.
o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o
They sat with Team RWBY, orchestrated primarily by Nora and Yang, who was currently talking with her own sister while Blake and Weiss were in their own little worlds.
Jaune wasn't really trying to listen in...but was Yang talking about him a bit too much than normal? He had casted Reinforcement on his hearing so that he could hear what they were talking about, but it was just bits and pieces, so he wasn't really sure of what their topic was.
The rest of the table though was being regaled by Nora, who was animatedly recounting the tale where she and Ren defeated a horde of Ursa (and with their own skills, it wasn't really much in the realm of impossible), and made a fortune selling their hides as rugs, to an audience with varying degrees and levels of interest. Jaune was not really listening in, but then, he was still listening to quite a degree, but his mind was on another place, though.
Instead, the food here was...disappointing to say the least. Irisviel and Kiritsugu could make something that would make their food look like they were somewhat presentable to begin with. He'd tried to fill his plate with a small sample of anything that he could actually feed himself with, and most of the food there wasn't really worth it, really. Pyrrha and Yang had opted for simple salads with cherry tomatoes, Nora literally had a sandwich that looked like it was packed with just lettuce inside it, and as far as he could tell, Ren and Blake literally didn't have anything in their plate, and Weiss was at least somewhat palpable, but saddening as well, since inside her tray was just only a single green apple. Yes, a single fucking apple that was untouched, and Ruby had about two or three cookies inside her own tray; there were actually he think was a dozen cookies inside the tray, but she literally munched at least six or seven of them as soon as they sat down on their table. And on his plate was just basically a tiny hill of mash potatoes, two apples, and four cookies; the last one he argued Ruby would try to snag on.
Well, he just prayed he wouldn't be poisoned and ate the first apple. Hm, it was actually good.
The salad itself was just mixed with basic oil and vinaigrette mix; the lettuce had worrying amounts of mayo, His potatoes had contained butter and salt, but the finish product of theirs was literally almost looking like a damn slime that would come attack his face anytime, while the cookies and apples were okay...But the others were...bland, for the lack of another word.
"What's wrong, Jaune? Are you alright?" Pyrrha asked in concern.
"Well, I'm just fine...it's just I had better food than this..." He replied, and everybody just went full raised eyebrow on that.
"Really?" Yang asked. "I didn't quite peg you as the picky one."
"If I wasn't really fucking desperate, I'd eat all of this, but this makes Irisviel's and Kiritsugu's cooking look like they were somewhat done by a chef. Now, our food looks like a lazy chef just went full "fuck it", and just made this all just because." He replied.
"Wow...I mean, just wow..." Nora said to him. "Wait, are you a price, Jaune?! Just like Pyrrha or Weiss?!"
"Hey!" Both women shouted.
"I am a Baron back at Ansel, so maybe?" And Weiss' jaw just dropped there.
"Really? Didn't peg you as one once again." Yang said; you hear what you learn, really.
"Well, I'm just used...to much better food, I guess..." He said.
"Hmm, sounds picky to me, Jaune!" Ruby said cheerily.
"Even though I am an aristocrat, I cook for myself. I was taught on how to cook since my parents didn't want me to be a huntsman." He replied.
"Wait, you can?" Blake spoke up for the first time. Wait, what?
"Yeah, I can...I mean, I was also taught by Shirou on cooking basically almost anything. So I could get some leftover ingredients and make it somewhat a presentable stew in case any one of you were sick or something." He replied, and everybody's eyes was on him.
"Wait, you can really cook?! Could you bake cookies, please?!" She said with such pleading eyes that you could mistake her as a puppy.
"Alright, Ruby, I'll make cookies for you next time. You could join me if you really want to, since I can teach you how to make it if you need to make some." It was also a nice experiment, since he could maybe make the cookies with red dust inside them. Hm, a good experiment indeed.
Weiss literally stared at her apple like it was the most disgusting thing in the world and looked at him as Ruby cheered in delight. "And your co-teammates, Jaune? Will you also cook for us?" She asked, and he was pretty sure she had a blush on her own cheeks. "I take it you wouldn't be averse in making some for us too just in case of a celebration?"
"Yeah, I could cook for all of you." He replied. "Don't worry about the payment, I have my own bank account for my own necessities, separate from my family's and given to me by the Emiyas before I parted ways with them to go here to Beacon." He said as almost all their eyes sparkled in delight.
Nora was also looking at him with complete yearning in her eyes, and Ren was powerless to stop her. "Pancakes?"
"Yes, Nora, I could also make as many pancakes as you want." He replied with a smile. "Would everyone in team RWBY like to have breakfast with our own team as well?"
Nora cheered and fist bumped with Ruby just as Ren did a polite nod of thanks. Blake was still reading, as usual, but she now had a small and rather faint smile that bore in her own face. Yang meanwhile, then whispered something to Ruby along the lines of husband material, whatever the hell that was, and that got Ruby's face all red as she distanced herself from her sister, while said sister had a grin on her face.
Suddenly, a faint sound of a scream of pain and a tinge of a sound of laughter from afar. While not an uncommon sound in the cafeteria, it had an unpleasant sound that accompanied it and he did know who that voice of pain was, and the mocking undertone one of the voices had made meant that he quite knew who that dipshit was.
Zeroing in on Team CRDL, the source of the sounds, clearly harassing a girl with long brunette hair that fell all the way down her own back. Russell and Cardin, asshole Numero Uno and Dos, were sitting on either side of her, and she was clearly being trapped there and she wanted to crouch down on the bench and get away from them, or at least shrink herself; either way, even if she shifted on one side, one of the assholes would still be within her own personal bubble.
Across the table stood Dove and Sky, assholes Numero Tres and Quatro, the former sitting heartily while making weird flappy motions on the top of his head, while the fourth one was just literally laughing away.
As he got closer, he recognized those rabbit ears that they were pulling, and that girl was Velvet Scarlatina, the one he had helped just after his spar (well, he did take a detour to the kitchen before actually going to the room, but he had helped her carry the books she was holding to the library, since he was just about to go the same way back to their dorm room) and a pretty nice girl to talk to, albeit a bit shy.
Alright, this had to stop.
"Oi, dipshits." He said, making all their head turn around to him. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Shut up, boy, and mind your own damn business." Cardin harshly replied back, and a vein bulged from his forehead.
"What did you call me, you fucking dickface?" He said as his right eye twitched in anger. Cardin obviously heard his remark and stood up from his seat, letting go of her rabbit ears.
"What did you say to me?" He sneered as he raised his left fist and brought it down to his own face, in which he promptly blocked with his right hand and slapped him hard with his left hand. He slapped him so hard that it left a mark on his face and he recoiled in shock for that. Everybody who was watching that kind of also recoiled in shock since this was Cardin they were looking at right now; a person that shouldn't be messed with, but the other guy just slapped him after blocking his attack, and some were actually trying to stifle their laughs, while Cardin's teammates were gaping like a fish out of water.
"You...YOU MOTHERFUCKER!" He then tried to do it, but Jaune was much faster, as he launched a feint at his right hand, in which he tried to defend, and slapped him hard once again with the left hand, now, there were two sets of parallel handprints on his face. He cradled his cheek as he looked at him in anger, as some of the students were actually laughing, albeit a bit quietly than some. Well, that was that; as Cardin grabbed a glass bottle and tried to swing it to him, but Jaune just took the bottle out of his hand and flying into the ceiling before launching an elbow thrust to his open area, making him almost spit out what he just ate, and then made him slip and tumble onto the ground as he basically placed his foot on his chest and promptly caught the bottle, placing it back on the table.
"Does it hurt, Cardin?" He said as Cardin spit out saliva from his mouth. "Now, if I ever see you again, and try to hit on my team or my sister team; I'm going to make sure you stay six feet underground permanently, alright?" He said smiling, but his dark tone and voice deluded them from that smile of his.
Fortunately for Cardin, Miss Goodwitch had arrived just as he pulled his own foot from his chest.
And then reprimands and warning came, but he was acquitted of everything because he just did what basically was self defense for himself, but still, being reprimanded for humiliating someone that deserved it was all worth it.
