Chapter 49

AN: So, it looks like no one is getting emails, and so if you've posted a comment on the previous couple of chapters I haven't seen them. Hopefully I can respond to them at some point and hopefully you've gotten an alert about this chapter.

Two weeks have passed since girls/guys night and for Addison and Derek every day that passes means the Sheplets are getting a little stronger and that means everything to them. While Addison is still expecting symptoms of preeclampsia, and serious ones at that, she hasn't been put on bedrest yet.

It's early morning and Addison is in her bathroom vomiting into the toilet while Derek holds back her hair back.

"Should we go to the hospital?" Derek asks, as he rubs Addison's back, feeling incredibly worried about her, and realizing how much he hates seeing her like this.

"No," Addison says, only briefly pausing before once again being sick.

"Addison? Derek?" Teddy's voice yells.

"Bathroom," Derek yells back and seconds later Teddy runs in, and as soon as he does Derek realizes something is wrong. "What's wrong?" Derek asks worried, and because she is being sick Addison can't turn around and look at her.

"Zola's being sick. Melia is cleaning her up in her bathroom," Teddy explains, feeling worried about her, and Addison.

"Zo?" Derek asks concerned.

"Derek… go," Addison says.

"Addie…." Derek starts to say.

"Zola needs you, I'll be fine," Addison says, doing her best to give Derek a stern look, but it doesn't have it's usual effect because she is being sick.

"I'll stay with Addie," Teddy offers.

"Please," Addison says to Derek, feeling more concerned about her daughter than herself.

"Okay," Derek says, standing up. "Stay with her," Derek says to Teddy, who walks closer to Addison, and he heads out of the room.

After leaving the bathroom Derek hurries to Zola's room and straight into her adjourning bathroom where Amelia doing her best to wash Zola in the sink.

"Amy, what's going on?" Derek asks worried as he walks towards his sister and daughter.

"After you told me Addie was being sick, I checked on Zola and as soon as I picked her up she started to be sick too. I got her in hear as quick as possible," Amelia explains. "And now, you're here, so you can take your beautiful, but slightly disgusting at the moment, daughter, and I am going to get cleaned up because I have a surgery," Amelia tells her brother as she passes her niece to him.

"Oh Zo, I'm sorry Sweetheart?" Derek asks his daughter as Amelia heads out of the room. "Mommy's sick too, and I don't like that either of you are," Derek says to his daughter as he picks up where his sister left off and continues to clean her up. "I'm going to look after you both," Derek promises.

A little while later Amelia and Teddy have both headed to the hospital while Derek, Zola and Addison are all at home. As Derek was told that there is a stomach bug going around the hospital daycare Derek isn't as worried as he was when he first realized that both Zola and Addison were being sick.

As it seems to be the place Zola likes Derek is sitting in the bath in Zola's bathroom holding her and for the moment Zola has stopped being sick.

"I got you Sweetheart, you're going to be okay," Derek says to his daughter, as he kisses the top of her head, feeling glad that at least for now Zola has stopped being sick. Derek has been through of a lot of bad things but watching as both his daughter and the love of his life are in pain is one of the hardest.

While comforting Zola Derek hears footsteps and he looks towards the door and sees Addison, who is looking even paler than usual.

"Addie, you should be resting," Derek says.

"I can't rest when Zo's not okay," Addison says, as she very carefully, climbs into the bath too. "I'll take her," Addison tells Derek.

"Addie, you know it's okay if your rest, especially at the moment," Derek tells Addison, as he hands Zola over to Addison as he knows Zola well enough to know that she needs to hold their daughter.

"Zola's sick, I have to help her, not rest," Addison tells Derek, and because he knows Addison so well he knows exactly what she is thinking.

"Addie resting when you're sick doesn't make you Bizzy, or the Captain," Derek tells her, as he knows, better than almost everyone, the scars that the Captain and Bizzy gave Addison.

"I don't want Zola to think I don't care," Addison says, as she looks down at her daughter with a look of complete and utter love.

"Addie, that's never going to happen," Derek tells her. "You love completely, I've always known that, and Zola, and the Sheplets, always will too," Derek tells Addison. "You're an incredible mother," Derek explains.

"You used to call me Satan," Addison reminds Derek as she cuddles Zola and checks to make sure she is okay.

"I was mad… and I was trying to hurt you," Derek admits, and Addison realizes there is guilt in his voice. "Addie, I know how much you don't want to be like your parents, like your family, so I said what I said," Derek says, knowing he intended to hurt Addison, but Addison being Addison just took it in her strive. "But you don't have to worry because you couldn't be any further from being like them," Derek admits. When he was angry at Addison, he knew what buttons to press to hurt her, and so that's what he did, and now that he's had time to reflect he feels incredible guilt for doing that.

"I don't want to be," Addison admits. "I don't want Zola and the Sheplets to have the childhood I had," Addison admits.

"They won't," Derek says. "Addie, I'm scared that our kids will go though what me and my sisters went through, and I don't want that," Derek admits, looking afraid, as that is his worst fear that he, or Addison will be forced away from their children.

"I scared of that too," Addison admits, and the two of them drift into silence as they sit in the bath with their daughter.

Many hours later, a couple of hours after both Addie and Zola have finished vomiting, Addison and Derek are sitting in the open living area with Zola, all three of them sitting on the floor, when they hear footsteps and both Amelia and Teddy walk in.

"I'm seeing a lot less vomit than I was expecting, that's good," Amelia comments as she sees Addison, Derek, and Zola.

"We both stopped being sick a little while ago," Addison explains.

"Did you hydrate?' Teddy asks. "You're both at risk for dehydration after vomiting so much," Teddy points out as both she and Amelia sit down on the floor with Addison, Derek, and Zola.

"I've been making sure they're hydrated," Derek reveals, knowing that he's mainly had to make sure Addison remembered to Hydrate as she was just as concerned about Zola as he was.

"Good," Amelia says relieved. "Does that mean you want to hear hospital gossip?" Amelia asks Addison curious.

"Always," Addison answers, causing Derek to shake his head amused.

"So, the new potential fellows were touring today, Bailey was showing them around," Amelia explains.

"She would have hated that," Derek says amused.

"She really did," Teddy confirms.

"What were they like?" Addison asks curious.

"Horrible," Amelia admits.

"They weren't that bad," Teddy comments.

"Really?" Amelia asks, giving Teddy a look.

"Okay, they were," Teddy admits. "I really hope Cristina doesn't leave," Teddy admits, as she really likes teaching her.

"I'm just glad Lexie can't leave yet, I don't want to teach a new student yet," Amelia comments.

"Please, with you and Derek as teaches I don't see her leaving next year," Addison admits.

"Probably not, I am a great teacher," Derek says, and Amelia pics up a pillow and throws it at her brother, which causes Addison and Teddy to laugh. Seconds after Addison and Teddy start to laugh Derek and Amelia does, and then even Zola joins in, which makes them all laugh harder.

Six days have passed since Addison and Zola were sick, and to the relief of everyone who cares about them both were only sick for a day. As Addison reaches closer to twenty five weeks, and the chances of the Sheplets surviving if she is forced to deliver increase, she feels better, though she is determined to make sure that they remain inside of her for as long as possible.

It's early evening and Addison, Derek, Amelia, Teddy and the other attendings are in the conference room discussing the soon to be fellows.

"Where are we with Avery?" Owen asks curious, looking at Mark.

"Holding offers from USC, Penn, Tulane, and Emory," Derek reveals. "Tulane and Emory are in love. They want him bad," Mark comments, causing Addison and Derek to exchange amused looks as they are both glad that Mark has finally learn the joys of teaching, as it is clearly something important to him.

"Grey?" Hunt ask, looking at Bailey as he knows that Bailey is the one who has been talking to Meredith about her future.

"Still between Boston and Seattle," Bailey reveals, knowing more than what everyone else in the room, excluding Richard but including Derek, knows.

"She's still debating," Richard explains.

"Yang?" Owen asks, looking at Teddy.

"She didn't tell you?" Teddy asks surprised, realizing that things must be even worse between Owen and Cristina than she thought, and Owen just gives her a look. "Stanford and Columbia are playing hardball, but I'm confident that we're still in the mix," Teddy explains.

"Lee, Steinman, and Renaldo?" Owen asks.

"Offer from Rice, leaning towards Wash U," Amelia explains, knowing that as they both asked her opinion, which made her feel pretty amazing. "Balor and San Diego are both after him," Amelia explains.

"Well Karev is staying," Arizona reveals.

"If we are out this many surgeons I'm gonna need to hire now, so let's get answers from our people as soon as possible," Owen instructs. "And let's not forget that we've agreed to assist Boise memorial with their conjoined twin surgery, so make sure your teams are ready to leave from the lobby no latter than ten tomorrow night," Owen says, before leaving shortly followed by most of the attendings until it is only Mark, Addison, Derek, Teddy, Amelia, Callie, and Arizona.

"We'll he's certainly in a mood these days," Mark comments.

"Really is," Teddy says, feeling concerned for her oldest friend.

"So, what take out are we getting tonight?" Callie asks curious as she, Arizona, Mark and Sofia are coming over to the Lake House for the evening.

"None," Addison answers.

"I'm grilling," Derek says, with a rather proud look. "It's a nice evening and I'm finally going to get to use the outdoor kitchen, so I'm going to grill burgers and hotdogs," Derek explains, looking incredibly proud. "I wanted to grill trout, but Addison…." Derek starts to explain, looking at Addison as he speaks.

"Threw the fish back into the lake," Amelia says, before laughing, as she thought it was incredibly funny, Derek did not; and Teddy did her best to hide her amusement.

"You did?" Arizona asks amused.

"And I'd do it again, I couldn't stand trout before I was pregnant, it's worse now," Addison explains, looking very proud of herself.

"Got it, no fish around Addison," Callie says amused.

"I don't mind fish, I just hate trout," Addison says, as the group head out of the conference room, heading towards the Day Care.

After collecting Zola and Sofia Addison, Derek, Mark, Amelia, Teddy, Callie and Arizona head back to the lake house where they proceed

The following night, Teddy who has spent most of the day with Cristina which has caused her to realize something, is searching for Owen and she finally finds him, standing in the conference room, staring at the names of the Residents

"I think we're gonna loose Yang," Owen admits as he sees Teddy walk in.

"Owen what happened? Please tell me," Teddy requests. "Cause I've tried everything short of offering her my own job. I mean, I've sang, I've dance… I've…" Teddy explains.

"I slept with someone else," Owen explains not wanting Teddy to blame herself when it is his fault. "So, there's nothing that you could've done," Owen explains. "She's not leaving you. She's leaving me. I'm sorry," Owen says to his oldest friend as he doesn't know how to fix it.

While Teddy and Owen are up in the Conference room Addison, Amelia, Zola, Callie Arizona are down in the lobby saying goodbye to Derek, Mark, Lexie, Meredith, and Cristina who are leaving for Boise.

"Maybe Amy should go instead," Derek says to Addison, who is holding Zola.

"Derek, it's okay," Addison assures him. "Zola, the Sheplets will be fine, it's just one day," Addison tells him. "It's important to teach others how to do this surgery, I wish I was," Addison admits, feeling that she worked so hard to make the surgery with the twins successful and now she can't go to teach it to others because of her pregnancy.

"Addie…" Derek starts to say.

"I know, I know why I can't go," Addison says as Zola reaches for Derek so Addison hands her over to him.

"YOU SON OF A BITCH," Arizona's loud voice says and Addison turns to see that it is Alex Arizona is yelling at.

"Go, save Karev, I want to cuddle our daughter," Derek says, and Addison walks over to where Alex and Arizona are.

"I had to hear It from Hunt? What, you couldn't even be man enough to tell me yourself," Arizona says, sounding absolutely furious.

"Arizona…" Addison starts to say, as Callie tries to clam her wife, but Arizona ignores them both.

"No, you ungrateful crap dog!" Arizona exclaims.

"It's Hopkins!" Alex explains. "You went to Hopkins, and Addison you're always saying how great of an opportunity it is," Alex points out, as he looks between them, but as he does he realizes that Addison looks proud while Arizona looks angry.

"It is an incredible opportunity, you should be proud," Addison tells him, feeling proud of how far Alex has come from the man he was when they first met.

"You are a miserable, miserable Bastard!" Arizona exclaims.

"Arizona!" Addison exclaims.

"Robbins, they want me, all right? They really want me," Alex says, feeling incredibly proud of himself, and feeling amazed as this is something he never thought he'd achieve.

"So, well, you, you're actually going?" Arizona asks shocked, and hurt.

"Can we talk about this when I get back?" Alex asks, and Arizona steals the bag that is over the shoulder.

"No!" Arizona exclaims.

"Arizona calm down, what are you doing?" Addison asks.

"Sweetheart," Callie says, like Addison she is trying to calm Arizona down.

"No, you are not going to Boise, because you no longer represent this hospital!" Arizona exclaims. "I'm going!" Arizona exclaims, and as she realizes that Arizona won't be talked out of this Addison walks back over to Derek.

"So Karev's going to Hopkins," Derek says, as Addison walks back over.

"Yep, he deserves it, he's come so far," Addison says proudly.

"I never asked, what did you see in him all those years ago? What made you decide to teach him? You saw something in him no one else was, what is it?" Derek asks curious, as he remembers that when Alex was an intern the only Attending who would teach him was Addison.

"At first I had him assigned to my service to punish him, because I thought he'd hate it, but then I realized he caried, and that the tough exterior was to protect himself," Addison admits. "Honestly, he reminded me of me, that's what is saw," Addison admits.

"Well he's lucky you knew what to look for," Derek admits, and once he does everyone who is going to Boise starts to head out. "Guess that's my cue," Derek says. "I love you, Zo Zo," Derek says, kissing his daughters head. "And I love you," Derek says to Addison.

"I love you too," Addison responds, and the two of them kiss, once they break apart Derek leans down and puts his hands on Addison's stomach.

"And I love the three of you," Derek says, before kissing Addison's stomach.

"Don't worry Derek, I'll keep good watch over your service…. And Addie," Amelia assures her brother.

"I know, thanks Amy," Derek says, before handing Zola back to Addison.

Once Addison is holding Zola Derek moves closer to his sister hugs.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Derek tells his sister, kissing the top of her head like he did so many times when she was a child.

"Oh god, Derek," Amelia says, pretending to be annoyed, though she isn't really.

"Oh are we embracing Amelia? Count me in," Mark says throwing his arm around Amelia's shoulders, trying to embarrass her, and causing Addison to laugh.

"God you two are annoying," Amelia says, moving herself out of Mark's arm, though Addison, Derek, and Mark can tell that she isn't' really annoyed.

"They're your big brother's they're supposed to be," Addison comments, smiling at the way the three of them are interacting.

"Yep," Derek and Mark both say, both sounding rather proud of themselves.

"Don't you two have a plane to catch?" Amelia asks, looking between Derek and Mark.

"Unfortunately," Derek answers. "See you tomorrow night," Derek says, before once more kissing Addison.

"Bye Addie, Amelia," Mark says, quickly kissing each of their cheeks before heading out with Derek, Meredith, Lexie, Cristina and Arizona.

A little while later Derek, Mark, Arizona, Cristina, Meredith and Lexie are on a small private jet. One the left side of the jet there are seats in rows of two while on the right sides there are only one seat in each row.

In the second left row from the front Mark and Derek are sitting together while Arizona, Cristina, and Meredith are sitting in the seats on the right side, Meredith sitting at the very back of the plane, away from everyone, while Lexie is sitting right behind Derek and Mark who she is happily talking to.

AN: So, I guess you can guess where this is going, there are going to be a LOT of differences from Canon, so I hope you like what's to come, even though it will still be painful.
