It was the weekends and Fei was walking on the streets of Shanghai. It was just another day in the summer holidays. Fei has more time than she knows what to do with. Today, she was meeting with a certain group of friends. It wasn't like she knew them really well, all she knew about them was their names and phone number.
Being trained and taught under her adoptive father through her childhood and given that she never made efforts to make friends outside, Fei didn't have many friends. But now, she decided to have a new start, make friends, get her life in order like a normal person, like everyone else, to actually live her life.
Fei looked around before looking down at the phone that Wang got for her, it wasn't like the latest model but a pretty decent one. She swiped through her phone, looking at the location that the boys have sent her through Wechat. She followed the directions before walking toward the location where she was going to meet up with the trio. They were already there, waiting for her at the junction. Fei took a deep breath before walking towards them.
"Hey there," Fei greeted as she walked up to them.
"See Kang, told you she would show up," Chung nudged the guy's rib. "Come on pay up," he raised his palm.
"Urghh fine," Kang groaned as he took a bill out of his wallet handing it to Chung.
"Don't mind those two, they were betting on whether you would come or not," Jiao scoffed.
"Oh…" Fei answered awkwardly. If she was hanging out with girls, this would probably not be as awkward, but there she was. She looked at the boys, there were in their usual attire.
"And as I said, she came," Chung said proudly as he took the money from Kang's hands.
"Okkk, I was wrong alright?" Kang rolled his eyes. "I didn't think she would want to hang with us."
"Why not?" asked Fei confused.
"Yeah, Kang, why not?" asked the shorter teen.
"She is a girl, hanging out with three guys like… it is kinda awkward, to be honest," Kang pointed out. "Don't you guys think it is weird?"
"Just because you had one bad experience with girls huh?" Jiao rolled his eyes. "Don't mind him, Fei, he literally like… what were you trying to do again? Oh right, confess?" Jiao quipped.
"Right, the time he wanted to confess, and then got rejected, well that is a simple way to put it," Chung eyed Kang. "Or we could go more into detail-"
"Hey! Don't say that in front of her!" Kang groaned in embarrassment.
Fei couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle as she smiled, maybe hanging out with them wasn't such a bad idea after all.
Later, it was noon, Fei, Kang, Chung, and Jiao were at a hotpot restaurant in a mall, eating lunch. Chung was handling most of the cooking there as Fei sat there while Kang and Jiao were talking.
"You guys want to put it any more stuff?" asked Chung as he held the cover.
"Not for now," Jiao said.
"Really, even with that big appetite of yours?" asked Kang scoffing.
"What? I take it slow and enjoy myself," the teen wearing the black hoodie said. "Plus, 2 hours buffet hotpot remember?"
"Hey so uh, how much should I pay you Chung, for this?" asked Fei as she looked at the table.
"Oh? No need, it is on us. Take it as our treat," Chung said.
"No no, this looks expensive, I am sure-" Fei denied. She was surprised to hear that the boys were doing so much for her.
"Come on, Fei, don't worry, really, it is fine, it is just one time anyway," Chung shrugged.
"Alright then," Fei said as she brushed her hair awkwardly, it was mostly just Kang and Jiao talking now.
"Oh look, it is getting awkward now," Kang pointed out plainly as he noticed Fei not talking much.
"Oh, it is fine. I am just a very… quiet person in general, I think," Fei said.
"Hmm tell us more about you then," Jiao said. "You are obviously a teen like us. What grade are you in?"
"Well, senior middle one when school starts I guess," Fei said. Wang has already made sure that Fei would be able to continue her education after the summer holidays were over. After years of being home-schooled by Wu Shifu, and 3 years at middle school, which she mostly skipped. It would be the first time when she actually was going to be able to experience a normal school life.
"Oh, same actually!" Chung said piping up. "What school are you going to?" asked the teen.
"Shanghai High School," Fei answered. It was quite a prestigious school. If it wasn't for the fact that Fei was been working hard to keep up when she was on her quest to find the missing bracelet that was stolen from her. She would not have been able to make it into the school that was for sure.
"Wow, what are the chances, same as us," Kang said surprised. "Maybe she will be in the same class as us."
"Hmm maybe," Fei said smiling awkwardly.
Suddenly, she saw something on the TV screen in the top left corner of her eyes. It was the afternoon news broadcast. On the screen, there was a picture of her as Ladydragon. She frowned as she looked at the screen, watching the footage of her transforming into a dragon and attacking YanLuoShi.
"Huh, crazy night wasn't it?" Chung said as he too noticed the video. "To imagine all that happened the same night we ran into you stealing from Marinette."
"Hey, I told you all, I wasn't stealing, it was… a misunderstanding," Fei corrected. Obviously, she couldn't tell the truth.
"Yeah, just saying," the dark-skinned teen said as he sat down beside Fei.
"But… what were you doing? I mean, we saw you took Marinette's necklace," Kang said confused.
"It's complicated…" Fei sighed. No one can know about this. No one can know about her identity. Giving in once to pride and showing Cash her identity was already a terrible mistake. No one else can know.
"Okk," Jiao said as the boys looked at her skeptically.
"Uh… What about you all? I mean, I don't know much about you three," Fei asked trying to change the subject, driving it away from dangerous waters.
"Ah, I suppose we didn't get to talk much that night either," Chung said. "So, I am Chung, surname Lin, so full name, Lin Chung, but well, everyone usually calls me Chung. And as we just told you, the same grade with you-" the teen said.
"Does she really need to know all that?" chuckled Jiao. "Tell her something that she doesn't know."
"Ah fine, ok. Well, I am like, really interested in IT stuff," Chung said.
"Ohh," Fei answered. It wasn't like she was really into the conversation, but it was nice to get to know them better.
"And those kinds of stuff tends to be boring to girls," Kang quipped.
"How about you Kang? Gonna tell her how a girl was crushing on you before you-" Jiao joked.
"Fei, don't listen to them. They are just bluffing. Anyway, Su Kang, everyone calls me Kang, and I don't really have a particular interest, to be honest," the tall teen shrugged.
"Tan Jiao," the buffer teen introduced himself.
"Let me tell you his interest Fei, he loves to eat," Kang interrupted the teen.
"Hey!" Jiao nudged him hard in the ribs.
"Oof!" Kang groaned clutching his torso.
Fei couldn't help but chuckle a bit once more. This group of guys sure are entertaining at least. She turned towards Chung, only to see him looking at the TV screen. Fei turned towards the screen, but she didn't see anything of interest, just the news.
"What are you looking at?" asked Fei curiously.
"Oh, just the news," Chung shrugged.
"Oh," Fei answered, unsure what more to say as Kang and Jiao continued to banter.
"What do you think about this… Ladydragon person?" asked Chung curiously.
Fei paused for a bit before answering. "She saved the city, well, she is a hero."
"True," Chung said.
"Oh are we talking about Ladydragon now?" asked Kang as the topic got his attention. "I think she is kinda hot, don't you think so?" asked the taller teen.
"Goodness, do you only think about getting in bed with girls or what? Seriously, Fei is here with us, remember?" Jiao groaned as Fei just blushed a bit.
"Don't mind them," Chung chuckled. "They are like that."
"Yeah yeah, mind your food won't you? Look it is boiling already, soup is spraying out," Kang pointed towards the pot at the center of the table.
As for the rest of the lunch, Fei slowly began to open up but was not completely relaxed with them yet. She still had a lot to learn about making friends and interacting with people her age. But for now, things were fine and were all progressing well.
It was night and Fei was walking down the streets alone. It was night but the city was still as busy as ever. The teenage girl sighed as she walked. Even after having a taste of what was, it like to hang out with friends, she was somehow still used to being alone. She looked around, enjoying the city view of Shanghai, some alone sightseeing.
As Fei just walked past a bank, she heard some commotion coming from behind her. The girl turned around, and to her surprise, there was a van and a group of people holding guns, storming into the bank. Fei blinked, she was witnessing a robbery happening right before her eyes.
Fei quickly ran into an alley, looking around cautiously as Meishi flew out of her cloak. "What was that?" asked the small creature.
"A robbery, the people inside are going to need our help," said the girl as she looked around cautiously before placing her fist and hand together, and in a quick flash, Fei's hair turned red as her suit covered her skin. Fei has transformed into Ladydragon.
"Are you sure you should interfere Fei? You could just leave it to the police to do their jobs," the kwami pointed out.
"I could. But if I have the ability to help, I should," Fei said firmly as she looked at Meishi. "That is what my father taught me before he…"
"Your father taught you well, Fei," Meishi nodded. "Now, go."
Fei nodded before looking at the Renlings that floated around her, before setting her eyes on the mantis, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "螳!"
The inside of the bank was in chaos, with people being forced up against walls as the gang pointed their weapons at them, threatening to fire as a man, presumably the leader of the group was at the counter, making one of the staff lead him towards the vault of the bank, pushing him forward harshly with the tip of his gun, making the man shake in fear.
"快点!" the buff man holding the gun shouted angrily, prompting the staff before him to move quickly down the hallway.
"好的好的!" the shorter man raised his hand in fear of being shot as he scurried forward.
Suddenly, there were sounds of shouting and shooting coming from the front of the bank. The robber glared at the staff fiercely before grabbing him, pressing the gun to his head as he made his way out of the hallway, only to find his men fighting something that was seemingly invisible.
"你们干什么!?," asked the man angrily.
His men, however, didn't answer as they were knocked down, one by one. The robber then threw the man in his hand down onto the floor as he walked forward, raising his gun as he looked around for the intruder. As the man next to him was seemingly knocked out, he saw it, a mantis.
The robber quickly fired his gun in the direction of the red mantis that was flying up to him, raising his hand to block the attack from the peculiar insect, but he was somehow thrown back by the force. The man fell to the ground before he got up quickly, looking around, furious now. The leader of the group looked around to see most of his men lying unconscious on the ground with only 3 more standing.
"虎!" A feminine voice then came from out of nowhere and suddenly, a red tiger was in the bank, and the civilians that were there panicked in fear of seeing the predator.
Fei moved quickly as Ladytiger, quickly pouncing on the remaining robbers and knocking them down swiftly before moving to her next target. Soon, there were another three robbers down, knocked out. Out of desperation and confusion, the leader of the robbers quickly grabbed the staff he was holding earlier and held him tight against him, pressing the nozzle of his gun to the innocent man's head.
"不要动!你动我就开枪!" the robber shouted as he threatened, pressing the gun harder against the man's head, who was whimpering in fear now.
Ladytiger stood there. She didn't know what to do as she stared at the robber thinking hard before she came up with a quick plan. "螳!" And Ladytiger became Ladymantis, disappearing from the robber's view.
The robber looked around confused at where this creature could go to. As he looked, the man didn't realize the mantis that was crawling up his shoulder, getting closer to his hand before she knew she was able to grab the weapon out of the buff man's hands. "猴!"
Ladymonkey quickly tried to grab the gun, she managed to take the gun but the robber wasn't going to go down without a fight. He reached out towards the red monkey, trying to grab the weapon out of her hands as Fei attempted to escape. "鹰!" And the monkey turned into an eagle flying up away from the robber who looked at the red bird confused now.
"什么?," the buff man asked in confusion as he looked up at the red eagle, moving back in fear, away from the shapeshifter that managed to take his entire team out.
"熊!" And the eagle turned into a bear.
Not long after, the police arrived at the scene only to find 8 people, tied up in groups of four with their weapons piled up by the wall. The officers looked at each other confused, as they detained the robbers and lead them into police cars. No one was certain of what happened, the robbers were left aghast, and the civilians confused, all they know was whoever or whatever intervened, it saved them.
Ladydragon as standing on top of the building, looking down at the scene, making sure that there wasn't any more complication with Meishi floating by her side. "You did well, Ladydragon," Meishi praised approvingly as he looked down at the streets from the darkness.
"Hmm yeah, it was a close one though," Fei sighed as she shook her head. "Come on, let's go Meishi," Fei said. "鹰!" And she took flight into the night of Shanghai.
The police commissioner was looking through files in his office as usual when he heard a knock on the door. He looked up in frustration, wondering what else it could be. "Come in," the man said as he rubbed his temples.
"Commissioner Zheng! You asked us to tell you if there was anymore sightings of this… Ladydragon," said the man panting.
The older man looked up, interested. "Yes, is there something?" he asked.
"We just made an arrest, and the prisoners are claiming that they saw someone attacking them, a red mantis… that transformed into a red tiger, then… an eagle-" the police officer said.
"Bring me to them," Commissioner Zheng said as he stood up. "I want to question them personally."
