He says it like history, like an undeniable fact that's survived the test of time. One that's lived through kings and wars and changing seasons.
The spray of the shower pounds her back while he holds her, arms tucked securely under her navel. They sway together, an ebb and flow, a current all their own.
A kiss to her temple. Something so small and insignificant that grounds her, becomes her center of gravity.
She's his. She's so completely his and she's always been his, whether he knew it or not. But now he does and he's saying it out loud to the universe and he's not scared. Neither is she. They made it.
Slowly she turns, toe to toe in his grip, chin resting on his shoulder as she tilts her gaze to find his. Her fingers tickle across his chest.
"You're mine." She traces a stray bead of water, follows it down his sternum.
"Yes," he confirms.
"The love of my life."
"I know."
She's so proud she could kiss him. So she does. A quick smack of her lips over his before returning to latch, gentle and limitless.
His thumbs stroke the undersides of her breasts, puckering the sensitive skin. Her nipples perk up at the familiar touch but she's more content than aroused. She likes him touching her, traversing her hidden peaks and valleys, not a forage but an exploration.
He pokes her belly in jest and she jerks in his embrace, giggling at the change in antics.
"Squirmy." He plants twin kisses on the crown of her head.
"Your fault. You know I'm ticklish." She's not irritated.
"I know." Easy grin.
The water slows to a trickle. Donna drapes a fluffy towel around his back, then burrows into his neck, listens to his pulse. Breathes. Rests.
A beat. A kiss to his clavicle.

"You're the love of my life, Donna."
This time, it's whispered rich into her ear like the most sacred verse, branded in her heart.
