Chapter 33- Stopping the Soldier

"Charlie carrier is 45 degrees off the port bow. Six minutes," Hill said and Yelizaveta heard shots fired over her earwig.

"Uncle Steve, we'd better hurry. We're running out of time," Yelizaveta said in a fast voice as she and Steve took off running and the sounds of machine guns firing was in her ears.

"Hey, Sam, me and Liz need a ride," Steve said into his wrist communicator.

"Roger. Let me know when you two are ready," Sam said after a few seconds of white noise.

A bazooka fired and the flames knocked both of them off the helicarrier and into the air. "I just did!" Steve ground out. , gripping Yelizaveta's wrist tightly in his large hand and they started freefalling towards the Potomac.

Yelizaveta looked back to see Sam swoop down towards them. He groaned as he grabbed Steve by his arm and they flew towards the last helicarrier. The three of them landed on the tarmac. Yelizaveta took deep breaths and took large strides to keep up with Steve and Sam.

"You know, you're both a lot heavier than you look," Sam complained.

"We had a big breakfast," Steve said, looking around. The space was empty until a dark figure came out and rushed Steve towards the railing.

"Dad, don't!" Yelizaveta screamed as she got a good look at her father. Bucky looked at her briefly before tossing Steve over.

"Steve!" Sam shouted as he went to help. Yelizaveta froze as her father grabbed Sam by one of his wings. Sam looked back at Yelizaveta.

"Kid, get up there! It's up to you to shut it down!" Sam shouted. Bucky looked at her as she nodded.

"I'm on it. Sam, try to get to the ground!" Yelizaveta said as she started to climb up the outer casing of the engines like it was a ladder.

The Soldier watched out of one corner of his eye as Elizabeth made her way to the top. She looked terrified. He honestly didn't know what she was more frightened of; him or the climb up and the fact that she could break every bone in her body if she lost her grip on the railings that were acting as a ladder. He managed to rip off the man's wings and all but ran to the railings on the other side of the helicarrier. He would intercept his daughter when she reached the top and knock her out with the sedatives he had on hand. Diana would be furious that he had to resort to drugs again, but she would understand and be relieved when saw him come in with their daughter in his arms like she was before.

The Soldier had been with his wife for fifteen years and she had never stayed angry with him for long about anything. Her anger usually passed when he explained to her his reasons When it came to their daughter, Diana had agreed that he would discipline Elizabeth and she wouldn't interfere in how he disciplined her. Thankfully, when Elizabeth was living with them before, he hadn't had to. But considering how she had run from him and was now doing something so dangerous that his heart was in his throat, he might have to.

Yelizaveta climbed to the top and, to her relief, saw Steve waiting for her at the top. "Steve. are you okay?" Yelizaveta asked as Steve hugged her tightly.

"I am if you are, Liz," Steve said.

"Cap! Cap, come in. Are you and the kid okay?" Sam's voice came over their earwigs. Yelizaveta gave a huge sigh of relief.

"Yeah, we're here. We're still on the helicarrier. Where are you?" Yelizaveta asked.

"I'm grounded. The suit's down. Sorry, kid, Cao," Sam said, his voice full of resignation.

"Don't worry. Me and Liz have got it," Steve said. Yelizaveta looked over at the other side of the railings to see her father looking at both her and Steve before leaving himself. He was probably going to try to intercept, but they had to get there before he could.

"Come on, Steve. We have to beat Dad to the terminal," Yelizaveta said as she ran to the next set of railings and started her climb, Steve right behind her.

They made it to the catwalk and Yelizaveta froze as her eyes locked with her father's as he stood there, blocking their way. If Bucky was feeling anything, his eyes didn't convey it as he looked at her. She felt Steve's hand on her shoulder. "You got the blade, kid?" Steve asked.

"In my pocket," Yelizaveta said, touching her jacket pocket and staring into her father's blue eyes.

Steve then looked at Bucky. "People are gonna die, Buck. Me and your kid can't let that happen," Steve said.

"Dad, please don't make us do this," Yelizaveta said as tears came to her eyes.

"Liz, it's all on you. I'll keep your pop away. You get the blade to the terminal," Steve said, raising his shield and tossing it in Bucky's direction. Bucky raised his arm as Yelizaveta ducked to avoid being hit by the shield and while Steve fought her father, she made her way to the terminal.

"Steve, the gun!" Yelizaveta screamed as Bucky reached for his gun and putting the blade in her pocket, rushed him, gripping his flesh arm to keep it away from the weapon.

"Steve, take the blade!" Yelizaveta screamed, taking the blade out with her free hand and tossing it to Steve. Steve caught it and while she was locked in her father's arms, Steve pulled the port down and pulled out the blade in it.

"Steve, hurry! We're running out of time!" Yelizaveta screeched as her father tossed her aside like a sack of sugar. She hit her head on the railing and her world went black.
