A/N A bit of violence and blood in this chapter. Sorry guys

Chapter 31

A vampire stood inside the door frame, with his head tilted to the side and a sneer on his face.

Seth shoved the door off of his body abruptly, and it crashed into the dining table chairs, where only half an hour earlier, they were about to enjoy cake. In the same moment, he flipped his body over onto all fours facing the vampire. His whole body was shaking with an imminent phase.

In the blink of an eye, the vampire blurred across the floor towards Seth and kneed him in the head with a sickening crack. Seth's human body flew towards the stairs, and the vampire met him there with two consecutive punches to the face. Seth hadn't been able to phase before being knocked out by repeated blows to the head. He lay still, unmoving on the floor.

There was a metallic click sound to Bella's right, and she turned to see Charlie pointing his gun at the vampire.

"Stop!" Charlie yelled in his best Chief of Police voice.

There was silence for a few heartbeats before the vampire started chuckling.

Bella turned to her father. "Dad, please, put it down. It won't hurt him."

Charlie didn't listen; he opened up a round of bullets towards the vampire. The bullets ricocheted around the room, bouncing off the hard skin of the vampire. His clothes showed that Charlie had hit his mark, but it had no effect on the target.

The girls in the lounge were screaming, but fortunately, no one seemed to be hit.

"You really should have listened to the girl. Now you've pissed me off," the vampire said as he stalked towards Charlie.

Before anyone could react, he had Charlie pinned to the wall. There was a stomach-churning snap as Charlie's arm was twisted into an unnatural position, the gun clattered to the ground. Charlie's scream was short-lived as he was punched in the head with one fatal blow.

Bella watched in horror as her father's body slid down the wall and crumpled on the floor at the foot of his attacker.

"No!" Bella screamed as she rushed towards him.

The vampire stood in her way. He grabbed Bella by her hair and dragged her towards the other girls. They were all huddled together on the far wall of the lounge room, shaking and crying.

Bella screamed the whole way, trying to find placement for her feet on the ground, but kept slipping. Finally, he threw her on the ground in front of the girls.

She could smell the sickly sweet bleach smell that apparently vampires smelt like. It made her nose crinkle and her stomach churn.

Bella scrambled to her feet despite her pounding head and nausea. She stood in front of the girls. Rachel stood next to her, blocking the three girls behind them from the vampire in front.

The vampire laughed at their brave stance, knowing it was pointless. Bella finally got a chance to get a good look at him. He was tall and lanky, probably in his early twenties when he was turned. He had brown chin-length hair, and for the first time, Bella met a vampire that she did not find attractive. He must have been butt ugly when turned because even vampirism couldn't help him.

He brushed his hair out of his face as he stood studying the girls. His red eyes were darting from girl to girl.

"You've made a huge mistake coming here," Rachel spoke up. The fear was evident in her voice, but she was trying to sound confident. She believed that our boys would be here soon. They would surely be able to sense their fear by now.

Bella could feel where Jake was. She had been able to for a while, and he was nowhere near them. Actually, as she thought about it, she could feel more than just Jake. She could feel the whole pack, well, the Black pack anyway. They were like faint lights in her mind; Jake was the brightest. If she had time to concentrate, she could probably tell who was who; each had their own flavor or color. However, right now, all she knew was that the closest wolf to them was currently unconscious on the floor, and the others were not close by.

The vampire laughed, "I don't think so. I followed the trails behind the wolves, and I'm in exactly the right place by the smells of you girls. You see, your wolves are very busy right now. I doubt you'll see any of them again."

He paused as if to let the facts sink in, creating more fear. The vampire fed off their emotions like he enjoyed making his prey fear death before it happened. Bella was started to get very concerned about what was to come next.

"What do you want with us?" Bella asked, hoping to distract him. Keep him talking. Time was their best friend at this moment.

"Isn't it obvious? I've come to kill the women, so there won't be any more abominations born." He smirked and nodded towards Emily's stomach, "and by the looks of it, I've come at the right time."

Emily clutched at her stomach, and Bella deliberately stepped in front of her.

The vampire clicked his tongue. "Come on now, don't be difficult. I could snap all your necks before you even knew what was happening. But where is the fun in that?"

The girls were whimpering and sobbing behind Bella, but she didn't turn to face them. She knew that vampires could be very sadistic, but she also knew that they needed time, and she needed a plan.

"How do you know about us, about the wolves?" Bella asked nervously.

"Why there is a bounty out on them. Didn't you know?" he taunted. "They have become very famous in the vampire world. You see, we vampires are at the top of the food chain, and the wolves have threatened us. We don't take lightly to threats."

The vampire stepped forward and lifted Bella's hair off her shoulder, and deliberately sniffed along her neck. Bella cringed away from his frigid fingers. He wrinkled his nose up. "Ugh, you smell terrible." Huh? That was a first for Bella.

He flittered in front of Rachel and did the same thing.

"You still stink too, but not as bad as her," he nodded towards Bella. "I wonder if you taste any good," he leered.

He grabbed Rachel by the throat and pulled her forward a few steps.

"Let her go!" Bella demanded.

The vampire rolled his eyes at her. "Shut up, you're going to ruin my meal."

With that comment, he lifted Rachel's body by her neck, her feet not touching the ground, and walked away from the girls a few steps. Rachel couldn't breathe; she tried to grab ahold of the vampire's arm but struggled to find purchase.

The vampire dumped her on the ground, and she fell into an awkward position on the floor. She wasn't moving. He walked around her body slowly, like a lion circling his prey. He pushed her onto her back with his foot and kneeled down next to her, facing the girls. The vampire turned her head towards the girls, her eyes squeezed shut, cheeks wet with tears.

Bella knew she had to do something, but fear was starting to take over her body.

The vampire raised his finger to Rachel's neck and sliced open the skin about an inch long using his nail. Rachel's screamed, and the vampire smiled wider.

Bella watched in horror as he leaned over her and licked the trail of blood leaking down her neck and over the wound. The vampire closed his eyes and tilted his head back as if trying to decide if he wanted more.

Bella used his momentary lapse in concentration to launch herself at the vampire, ignoring the girls' screams behind her. She was just hoping to distract him from Rachel. However, when she collided with the vampire, she knocked him backwards, both of them rolling away from Rachel.

"What the hell?" the vampire snarled. He jumped to his feet and flew at Bella. He pinned her to a wall, one arm out straight in front of him, hand around her neck. "Who are you?"

He relaxed his grip on her neck so she could talk. Bella didn't know where it came from, "I'm the mate of the alpha, of the largest pack of wolves this area has ever seen. You picked the wrong fight!"

His face turned to confusion as Bella grabbed ahold of his arm with unexpected force. She used her core muscles to lift both legs off the ground, placed her feet on the vampire's chest and pushed with all her might.

There was an ear-splitting screeching sound as his arm tore off his body. Bella landed on the ground with a thump, momentarily winding herself. She threw the twitching arm away from her and turned her attention back to the screaming vampire.

The vampire stood in shock, screaming at his now missing arm when he suddenly lost his balance and fell forward. Bella saw that Eva and Kim had pushed on his back. He tried to catch himself with his one arm but rolled over. He seemed so stunned he couldn't function properly.

Bella kneeled on his chest and grabbed his other arm at the shoulder. The other girls sat on his kicking legs as Bella wrenched the other arm off. His screaming filled the air as he watched on helplessly in the face of three human girls.

His screaming turned to profanities, but Bella ignored him. With his two arms missing, he was not much of a threat anymore.

Bella moved and sat behind his head on the floor; the girls remained sitting on his legs. She placed her hands under his chin, her feet on his shoulder and pulled. It took a lot more effort and a few twists before the screams were cut off as his head separated from his body with a tearing sound.

The girls sat silently, panting, looking at the chaos around them. His legs wiggled, and a scream from the girls brought Bella attention back to the task at hand. "We need to burn the body," she said, standing up. She grabbed ahold of the vampire's head by his hair. "Can you two drag his body?"

They looked stunned for a moment before standing. Eva grabbed one foot, Kim held the other and they dragged him slowly towards the back door. Bella grabbed his arms and followed the girls.

Bella looked over her shoulder and saw Emily leaning over Rachel, trying to wake her up.

Bella had to put the head on the floor, so she could open the back door. She propped it open with a boot, picked the head back up and walked down the back stairs. She threw them into the already lit bonfire with a puff of purple smoke before helping the girls bring the rest of his body down the back stairs.

They got it as close to the fire as they could, awkwardly dragging the remains. Bella instructed them to turn his neck towards the fire before placing him on the ground. The girls pushed on his feet until the venom caught fire. They jumped back from it with a start as the entire body lit up.

Suddenly, there was a god awful scream from inside. "Rachel!" Bella cried and took off back inside.

Rachel was unconscious before, but now she was flailing her arms around, screaming.

"There must be venom in the wound," Bella thought aloud. She raced to Rachel's side. "Hold her hands," Bella commanded. She knew what she had to do, and didn't want to have time to think about it.

The girls reluctantly did as she asked. Bella didn't think twice as she leaned forward and placed her mouth over the wound. Ignoring the churning in her stomach, she sucked as hard as she could.

She took a mouthful of blood before turning and spitting it out on the floor. There were silvery slivers of venom standing out against the deep red of the blood. Bella leaned back over Rachel and did it again. There was still venom in it, and Rachel was still screaming.

Bella leaned down to repeat it for the third time when she felt a warm hand wrap around her arm and yank her away. She tumbled over sideways.

"What the hell, Swan!" Paul screamed at her.

Bella wiped the back of her hand across her mouth to clear away some of the blood.

"She's sucking the venom out," Emily explained quickly.

Paul's face paled as he turned back towards Rachel. "Is it all out?" he asked urgently.

"I don't know," Bella said honestly. "But, she has stopped screaming." She was back unconscious.

Paul seemed hesitant before repeating Bella's actions. They inspected the blood, "it looks clean," Bella said. "I don't think we should take any more."

Paul scooped Rachel up, sat down and cradled her body. His body started shaking as he quietly sobbed, huddled over her body. "I'm so sorry, baby," he whispered. "Please, come back to me. I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner. I'm sorry. Please..."

Bella looked away to give them some privacy. Eva had moved away and was now crouched over Seth, stroking his face. Tears were falling down her face silently. She was murmuring similar sentiments to Paul. She kissed him on the forehand, then on his nose, before kissing him lightly on the lips.

As Bella looked away, and she noticed Charlie on the floor. She raced over towards him. Her hands fluttered over his body, unsure what to do. "Dad?" she whispered. His body was slumped in such an unnatural position. His body propped up by the wall, head hanging at an awkward angle. She avoided looking at his twisted arm altogether.

Eventually, she placed her hands on either side of his head to straighten him out and helped lie him down flat on the ground. She leaned over his chest and listened to his still heart beating. His chest was slowly rising and falling. "You're going to be alright. You're going to be alright," she whispered to him.

Suddenly there was more noise in the room as some of the pack filled in. Sam came in first, then Jared, both headed towards their imprints. Bella held her breath and waited too long until Jacob appeared in the doorway. He looked around the room before spotting Bella on the floor with her dad.

At the sight of his face, all the emotions she had been keeping at bay burst forth. He raced to her, sat down and pulled her into his chest. At the feel of his touch, the sobs started wracking through her body. She was so relieved that he was here and alive. His strong arms held her and rocked her gently.
