"I am Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist, the Hero of Ishbal-and above all, a human." Eyes like cold obsidian glared down at Lust as the colonel raised his gloved hand. "And it was a mistake to give Greed this body."
The snap echoed through the tunnel and was quickly drowned out by Lust's screams. Her form writhed in the dancing flames, limbs twisting unnaturally as they withered and regenerated only to be burned again. For once, Roy felt no guilt over the carnage. He snapped again and again until there was nothing left to burn. At last, a crimson stone fell to the ground and turned to dust. The ashen remains dissolved into thin air, leaving nothing of the homunculus but a scorched patch on the earth.
"...Colonel?"
Roy turned to face his lieutenant. He had never seen her look so vulnerable, not since before she'd gone to the Ishbalan front. He offered his hand to help her to her feet. "It's me," he said quietly.
"But how…? What happened to Greed?"
"He's still here. And fighting to come back… I don't know how long I'll stay in control."
Riza stared into the Colonel's eyes, hope and despair fighting inside of her. She may never get the chance to speak to Roy again. There was so much she wanted to say to him, so much she wanted to hear, and not nearly enough time for any of it. What could she do, when they had only moments together? In the urgency of the moment, only one thing came to mind.
Roy froze as Riza's lips met his. She kissed him with all the passion she could muster, terrified of how he would react. But then his arms wrapped around her, and he was kissing her back. For a moment, the world vanished. They were alone, only the two of them in a universe of their own, the chaos of the world erased by the presence of their beloved.
And then Roy winced, and the moment was over. Riza pulled away as the homunculus in Roy's body blinked, dazed as if waking from a dream.
