Chapter XIV
Two weeks had passed since Rosalie had visited Bella and promised to stand by her side, and it seemed like a lot had happened. Despite Bella recently finding out she was pregnant, it soon dawned on her that she was now almost two months along. She still didn't look pregnant, as most women didn't look like they were until they were four months in or so, but everyone knew she was. Ever since deciding she was going to keep her baby, she had taken the time to tell those she deemed important enough to tell, mainly Charlie, Jacob, and Billy; she told Jacob first.
Upon telling Jacob that she planned on keeping their baby, the young man hadn't looked happier about the development. Apparently he had still been worried she'd still not want the baby, despite having broken up with Edward. But to see him so happy at having the chance to hold, take care of, and raise the little being that they created, Bella knew she had made the right decision. When they went forward to tell their fathers, it was clear that they were happy about it. Though it was earlier than they expected, the older men were getting the chance to be grandfathers. Despite this happiness, Charlie and Billy took the time tell them of the big responsibility that they were going to be taking on, especially as young parents. Even so, they promised to be there to help them when they needed it, and that they shouldn't be afraid to ask for any help. Bella was glad her Charlie had gotten over the surprise of her pregnancy and was going to support her throughout it. She had asked Jacob about talking to Billy more about their baby being a future Alpha, but Jacob wasn't worried about that and had no intention of bringing it up unless it was necessary. She didn't quite agree with that, but she let it go for the time being.
Jacob told the Pack of Bella's intention of keeping the baby, to which they reacted kindly to the news. Well, they did mostly. Paul made it known he had no intentions of babysitting or changing the diapers of the baby Alpha's offspring—those being the exact words he used. Sam, while not being opposed to the news, hadn't seemed too happy about it. Jacob believed that it may be because he had recently found out that Emily had fertility issues and would have trouble conceiving herself, despite her being his Imprint and the one to help continue the Shifter gene through the Uley bloodline. As for Leah, she too was happy for Jacob and Bella, but had also looked like she was going to cry in sadness. And unfortunately, Jacob didn't know her reasons for being upset.
Bella had told Angela she was going to keep the baby one day at school, to which Angela told her she'd support her through it before going to college. She had also told her she'd help her buy baby clothes and everything else she would need. Bella didn't bother to tell her Rosalie was already going through baby catalogues doing the same, making her wonder where she'd end up putting everything. Angela also took the time to tell her, just like her father, that caring for a baby was hard work, but had also given her all the notes, books, and such she had from when she had taken Child Development her sophomore year. When Jessica found out she'd be keeping her baby, she insisted that Bella's baby would be the most stylish newborn ever and that she was going to spoil it rotten; she claimed she was going to be the favorite auntie. Despite rolling her eyes at Jessica's antics, Bella was glad her friends were supporting her.
During those two weeks, Jacob and Bella had been spending more time together, getting closer to one another than they already were. Of course, spending all this time together only reaffirmed what Jacob already knew, and that was that he was in love with and wanted to be with Bella. As for Bella, every day that she was with Jacob, she could feel something changing between them, something changing inside of her. Furthermore, she felt like she was being pulled closer and closer to Jacob. And not for the first time did she wonder if her feelings for Jacob stronger than she thought, despite being asked by Charlie and Billy before. She still hadn't quite figured it out, but she had a feeling of where her heart had settled. Now if only she was truly for certain of it.
Jacob glared at Rosalie from where he stood by the staircase of the Swan household, the blonde leech ignoring his heated gaze from her spot on the couch. He watched her flip and search through another set of baby catalogues, circling things every now and again before turning to the next page. Noise from upstairs caught his attention and he looked up the staircase to see Bella coming down, her having gone upstairs to throw up and clean her mouth before coming back down. As the brunette hit the bottom landing and headed into the kitchen, Jacob followed her in there.
"Bells," Jacob started, watching the brunette pull out bread, peanut butter, and grape jelly to make a few sandwiches for herself and him. "Bella, does she have to be here?"
Bella gave Jacob a bemused look before answering, "No, she doesn't have to be, but she wants to be. She's helping us out, you know. And I'm not going to just throw her out."
"That, and it keeps Ed-weird at bay from Bella, as well," Rosalie's added, her voice drifting in from the living room. "That is what you want, right dog?"
"Rosalie," Bella said warningly while Jacob glared at Rosalie again.
He looked back at the brunette and watched her make five PB&J sandwiches, three for him and two for herself. Once the sandwiches were made and she put everything away, they sat at the table and began eating. Jacob asked about Bella's day at school and she asked him how patrols were going with the Pack. They also talked about other things in general, Jacob making Bella laugh and he himself loving how her face would light up. Even after they finished eating, they sat talking, only to be interrupted by Rosalie walking in with a catalogue, asking what kind of wood Bella wanted for her baby's crib, oak or mahogany. After making it clear that she really didn't care, just so long as it was sturdy, Rosalie left them be.
Bella looked at her cellphone on the table, taking it in hand and began fiddling with it. Jacob watched her do so for a while, taking in the nervous look on her face as she did. Frowning, he asked, "What's the matter, Bella?"
She looked up at him before looking back at her phone screen. Biting her lip for a moment, she answered, "I um…I haven't told Renee yet."
"Told her what? That you're pregnant?"
"Yeah, that. I haven't told her, so she doesn't know."
"I thought Charlie would have told her by now."
The brunette shrugged. "So did I, but when I asked him, he said that he'd let me be the one to break it to her. He said that it was better that she hears the news from me. And I agree with him, but I'm just…I don't know. I guess I'm just scared to tell her."
Taking her smaller hand in his, Jacob held it gently and rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb. Looking into her chocolate brown eyes, he asked, "Why are you scared? What is it that you're afraid of? From what you've told me of your mom, she seems pretty chill, if not a little out there."
"Yeah, I know, Jake. Mom takes things pretty well and has always walked to the beat of her own drum. And when it comes to news, she takes most things in stride that would freak me out or worry me to death. But telling her that her daughter is pregnant and still in high school? That's something I know she doesn't expect to hear. Jake, I'm afraid that Renee will be disappointed in me."
"For getting pregnant?"
"Yes. I'm afraid she'll be disappointed in me for getting pregnant so young, even younger than she was when she got pregnant with me." It was obvious this was something that bothered Bella and she looked on the verge of crying.
Jacob stood up from his seat and walked over to Bella's, taking her hands, and pulling her up to stand. Once she was on her feet, he wrapped his arms around her in a warm hug and held her close, the brunette resting her head on his chest while his own rested on top of her head. When Bella seemed to have calmed down in his embrace, having snuggled into him with her own arms wrapped around him, he told her softly, "I don't think you have anything to worry about, Bells. Renee may be shocked by the news, but she won't be disappointed in you. From what you told me, she never has been, and she be won't about this. Not even Charlie was disappointed when he found out you were pregnant."
"He was at first."
"Because he thought the bloodsucker had knocked you up. But my point still stands that he wasn't, and your mom won't be either. If anything, she'll be disappointed if you go all the way through your pregnancy without telling her. She's your mother Bella, and you're her daughter. She'll always be proud of you, no matter what."
Bella smiled at Jacob's sweet words, feeling tears fill her eyes before she buried her face in chest. Hugging him as tight as she could, she whispered, "Thank you, Jake."
Pulling away, she took her cellphone and began walking towards the front door saying, "I'll call her right now and tell her."
She stepped outside on the porch, only to turn around and poke her head back inside. Looking at Jacob, she asked, "Will you be here with me when I tell her the news, please?"
"Of course, Bells," Jacob replied.
The two of them stepped outside on the front porch and sat down, Jacob holding Bella's hand as she dialed Renee's number and held the little device to her ear. The phone rang three times before it was finally answered, Jacob being able to hear the woman speaking on the line.
"Hi honey!" Renee greeted cheerfully.
Bella smiled at hearing her mother's voice. "Hi mom."
"I haven't heard from you in a while. How have things been?"
"They've been okay. I um…I'm calling because I have something important to tell you."
"What is it, Bella?"
The brunette looked up at Jacob and held his hand tighter before telling her mother, "Mom, I'm pregnant. I'm almost two months along now."
There was a pause on the phone before Renee's voice said, "Tell me everything."
And Bella did. She started from when Edward broke up with her and moved away, and how she had reconnected with Jacob during that time. She then told her of how she and Jacob had gotten close, so much so that they had sex. Following that, she told her of how Edward and his family had moved back to Forks—making sure to keep out the fact of the supernatural and that she had to save Edward—and that they had gotten back together, only to find out she was pregnant with Jacob's baby not long after. She finished up by telling her that she broke up with Edward after realizing he wasn't who she thought he was—a light way of saying he was a controlling bastard—and that she planned on keeping the baby, her and Jacob planning on raising it together. And the entire time, Jacob held her hand through it.
Renee didn't speak once while her daughter informed her of what had been going on in her life. When she finished speaking, she finally said, "Well, I can't say that I'm surprised."
"What?" Bella couldn't help but say, her eyes wide in shock. Even Jacob seemed surprised at Renee's reaction.
"I mean, I expected you to experiment with sex at some point, honey. All teenagers do, you're no different. That, and I had a feeling you were hiding something from me when you didn't call me as frequently as you did before. Were you afraid that I'd be upset?"
"Well…yes, I was. I was afraid you'd be disappointed in me."
"Oh honey, I would never! You're my daughter and you could never disappoint me. And I support you with your pregnancy, even though I' not there with you. I will say though, that I'm glad you broke up with this Edward. He seemed great when you first told me of him, but the more you told me, the less I liked him. He just didn't seem right for you. But I am surprised you went for Billy Black's son! I remember him from when he was a cute little boy! What does he look like now? Is he handsome? Is he hot? Is he the personification of sex on legs?"
"Mom," Bella groaned out in embarrassment, Jacob chuckling in amusement. Bella's mom was really something else.
A certain smell hit Jacob's nose and he stiffened, his head turning to look at the side of the house. It smelled like vampire, and it wasn't Blondie. No, it was a familiar scent, but not the redhead; it was her companion. Telling Bella he'd be right back, he got up and headed around the side of the house, heading towards the brunette's bedroom window. The smell was stronger there, but there was no presence he could detect. Even so, he was certain it was the redhead's companion that he and the Pack have been chasing along with her.
Looking up, he saw Rosalie leap out of Bella's bedroom window, landing gracefully on her feet in front of him. Her eyes meeting his, she said, "I sensed another vampire in the house in Bella's room, but they left before I could catch them. I don't recognize it, though."
"I do," Jacob told her. "I've smelt it lingering in with that redheaded leech."
"Victoria?"
"Yeah, her. I believe that he's her accomplice. I think they're planning something, and that they want Bella."
Golden eyes widened in shock. "I knew Victoria was trying to get Bella, but I thought it was only her trying to get her. I didn't know she had someone new, and Alice sure as hell hasn't told anyone if she knows. This is definitely a new development."
She began walking towards the woods. "I need to go and warn my family. Keep me posted if you learn anything else, and I'll do the same."
With that, Rosalie quickly departed in the blink of an eye.
Jacob looked up at Bella's window again before turning to walk back to Bella was still seated on the porch. Sitting next to her, he listened as the brunette finished up her call with Renee before hanging up. Once she did, Bella smiled and said, "That went better than expected."
"Yeah, I told you that you had nothing to worry about," Jacob told her with a small smile.
Bella looked up at him, her smile falling from her face to be replaced with a look of concern. Looking at him, she asked, "Is everything okay?"
Not wanting to worry her, Jacob nodded and lied, "Yeah, things are fine. It was just Quil updating me on some Pack stuff."
Having a feeling he was lying to her, Bella was going to ask him to tell her the truth, only to be hit with a sudden wave of nausea. Quickly standing to her feet, Bella ran back inside, hurrying to the bathroom before she threw up on the stairs. Jacob followed her, all the while thinking that he needed to talk to the Sam about Bella's vampire intruder.
Riley arrived to his and Victoria's hideout, watching as the newborns feasted upon some tourists. Victoria herself was perched on an old car, watching them all with look of disinterest. Noticing his arrival, Victoria looked over to him and asked, "So, were you able to snag something of that human's?"
"Unfortunately, I wasn't able to," Riley told her. "The human's pet wolf and the blonde female of the Cullens both sensed me and came running. I had to make a quick getaway."
Victoria scowled at him, obviously disappointed in his failure. Moving on top of the car to sit next to his mate, he said hopefully in appeasement, "But I did overhear some very interesting information, though."
"Oh? And what was that?"
"Bella Swan was talking on the phone with her mother and informed her that she is no longer with Edward Cullen romantically."
Red eyes widened and Rosalie asked with a slight snarl in her voice, "Is that so?"
"Yes. Not only that, but she is currently pregnant by her pet wolf. She's carrying his baby right now."
Author's Note: I thought it time to introduce Victoria back into the story. But Bella's talk with Renee went rather well, now didn't it? I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and stay tuned for more to come. XOXO, SehunsBae37.
