I am back with another chapter! So the last one was a bit on the strong side (and trust me, it's just gonna get stronger from here). But I will try to not overdo it. Also, again, I welcome reviews. Reviews give the author (me) a sense of 'kudos!' and follows are just as welcome! I own only my OCs.
Third Person POV:
"So, what do you think?" Bupkus asked with a bit of worry. Nawt glanced at the computer screen again after reading over the reports and charts that Blanko printed out regarding the electrical weapon.
"No doubt about it, Bupkus. It's 16 Psyche. The comparisons based on NASA's findings, though as vague as they are, are remarkably alike. I'm surprised humans didn't discover this until as of late!"
"Nawt, you're getting off topic. Forget those dweebs! It's a match. What do you think we should do now?" the purple Monstar asked again, rolling his eyes in agitation.
Nawt took off his glasses and sighed, squeezing his eyes shut while pinching the bridge of his nose with his forefinger and thumb. "I dunno. Truth be told, I'm surprised the guy even is within this solar system. The fact that he found this material not far from the asteroid belt is astounding! I thought Swackhammer was the only one who knew of Earth and the surrounding space environment, but I guess I was wrong."
Bang chimed in with a grunt "Even more wrong that our ex-boss's brother seemingly dismissed him. He must have had some sort of tracking or communications system to keep tabs on him even after their fallout."
Bugs munched on his carrot in confusion. "Eh, what d'ya mean there, doc? Ya sayin' that the guy and his brother had a fight?"
"I guesth sibling disthpuths are becoming a famous topic around here, huh?", Daffy put his own two cents in, only to receive a couple glares from the Tunes and some of the Monstars. The mallard looked at everyone inquisitively "What?"
Kari didn't pay much attention to his comment and looked over at Bang with curiosity. "What do you mean, Bang?"
The green alien uncrossed his arms and looked over at Kari with flat look on his face. "Swackhammer and Painstake used to be quite close, but more along the lines of business partners than as brothers. Our old boss one day decided to split the business due to disagreeing with how his brother was nagging and telling him what to do. Painstake took insult to Swackhammer wanting to have a say so and have things his way, so they parted ways on a very sour note, each wanting nothing to do with the other."
The auburn-haired girl felt a slight pang in her chest, the situation bitterly reminding her somewhat of her and her brother's bout with one another roughly half a week ago.
"How sad.", she lamented, albeit feeling more remorseful at the thought of her and her own sibling rather than the two megalomaniacal tycoons.
Bupkus scoffed. "Not really. The boss- er, Swackhammer and his brother always tried to outdo one another and went neck to neck to see who was bigger and better than the other. They never got along, and they envied each other with a loathsome passion."
Putting the ripped papers aside along with the rest of the destroyed tome, Elise turned to the others with an even greater look of confusion. "So then why go through the trouble of going after Hale and Kari? If not revenge, then what is he after?"
Blanko shrugged. "That's a pretty good question. Why?"
Bupkus growled. "How am I supposed to know? The only thing that occurs to me is that both have one thing in common aside from being businessmen: they can't stand a threat towards their own power."
"So, in other words, they can't stand a bigger bully than them. Right?" Kari placed her hands on her hips, a frown marring her pretty face.
"Yeup! They were bullies with one another and all, but they hate it when others step in line and knock them from that position." Bang snorted, feeling quite grateful at the memory of being rid of their old boss.
The Tunes murmured amongst each other in worry and slight surprise. Lola and Bugs exchanged glances with one another.
Daffy scoffed. "Well, there ya have it, folks! Another wacko ready to rumble the universe with an inflated ego thatsth asth big as his brothersth!"
Nawt exhaled as he leaned towards the computer, deciding to open the surveillance footage from the camera's surrounding the manor and that was guarding the entrance to the infirmary. He fast forwarded the footage on the security camera of the infirmary and stopped at approximately 5:37am. He looked at the screen and saw the tall figure in the darkness, frozen on the camera in the process of stealing the tome of Morgan Le Fay and played the rest of the footage normally.
Everyone turned their eyes at the large monitor and gaped in shock and worry as they witnessed the figure now tearing apart the tome that was created by Merlin. As the figure finished ripping apart the pages, he opened the other book and appeared to be reading from it. He then slammed it shut, then gazed up at the camera, his eyes glowing an eerie green and his jagged, razor-sharp teeth breaking into a wide sinister grin. Then, in a bright green flash, he disappeared.
A gasp escaped from Kari's lips. There was no doubt about it now. That was the same evil figure that haunted her dreams earlier that very night. Her eyes roamed over to the sleeping forms of her brother and Pound. Their vitals were still stable and for that she was thankful. But it still didn't ease the feeling of foreboding that she felt about all of this.
Nawt scratched his neck slightly, feeling a slight itch from the material of his jacket. Bupkus noticed this and raised a brow. "Ya alright there, Nawt? Since when you started wearing a jacket?"
"Yeah, just a little itchy and noth- ouch!" He yipped as he seemingly scratched himself a little too hard and scraped his claws slightly over his scar.
Blanko, who was closest to him, glanced over where he scratched himself and his eyes shot wide open, able to get a good view of what had 'hurt' his friend.
"Nawt, is that what I think it is?" He blurted out in shock. This caught everyone's attention immediately, including Bangs' and Bupkus'. Before Nawt could open his mouth, Bupkus jumped in next to both him and their blue friend and was stunned. "No way!"
The red Monstar then tried to cover up his neck with his jacket, but to no avail as Bang swooped right in. "Oh, ho, ho, no you don't! Let's see what you got there!"
Grabbing the jacket, he pulled the fabric off the red Monstar and gaped in speechless awe as he saw his neck more clearly. A clean and small crescent moon shaped scar marred the red skin of his companion, which was a brilliant shade of pink. Nawt gulped audibly then quickly glanced at Kari before looking back at Bang.
The green Monstar then looked over at Kari and motioned Blanko towards her. Blanko was hesitant at first, but then complied after receiving a look from their green second in command. The tall blue alien walked over to her and gently grasped Kari's shoulder. "Sorry, Kari. May we?"
Taken aback from the request, Kari peeked over at Nawt, who nodded his head at her as if saying 'it's okay'. She nodded back and turned to face Blanko. "Sure thing, Blanko." She removed her green jacket and moved the long strands of hair from covering the crook of her neck. A brilliant pink crescent moon shaped scar that perfectly mirrored Nawt's adorned the pale smooth skin.
A small gasp escaped from Blanko's lips, unable to believe what he was seeing. Bupkus and Bang were dumbfounded, their jaws going slack and eyes just as wide as dinnerplates.
The Tunes, Lexi and Elise were all confused and exchanged whispers. Lexi walked over to her Monstar boyfriend with a confused look, not fully understanding what the whole situation was about. "Bupkus? What's going on? Why do they have matching scars?"
Bang growled and looked at Nawt in disbelief. "When did this happen?"
Nawt kept a steady stance, firmly looking back at his comrade. "A few days ago."
"A few days?! Nawt, why didn't you tell us?!" Blanko felt slightly hurt at this, seeing as he was his closest friend.
Kari flushed slightly as she now felt somewhat bare. Almost like she was exposed in some way. She spoke up. "Please don't be mad at him. We just… It just sort of happened."
Elise walked up to her dear friend, gently placing her hands on the auburn-haired girl's forearm. "Kari, what is it? We won't be mad, but we would like to know what is going on."
It was Lexi's turn to try the sweet side, as she mirrored Elise's actions and placed her delicate hands on Bupkus' strong arm. "Honey, what is that on their necks? Please tell us."
The purple Monstar took a deep breath, reeling in some form of logic to speak.
"That's a mark of eternity, babe. An unbreakable and sacred bond between lovers among our kind. In other words, that's a scar between mates. Soulmates, to be specific."
Lexi's eyes grew wide in genuine awe. Elise gasped in wonder, "So, Bupkus, does that mean..?"
Bang dropped the jacket to the ground and rumbled lowly, his hard stare fixed to the floor, still grasping at the new facts that made themselves known to all of them. "It means, Elise, that Kari and Nawt are mated for life. One forever bound to the other, and no other way around it or out of it. Kari now belongs to Nawt, just as he belongs to her."
Bugs, Lola, Daffy and all of the Tunes were gaping with wide eyes in surprise. Marie, who was quiet all this time, piped up with a twinkle in her eyes. "So does this mean they are married?!"
Kari then looked over at her little cousin in wonder at the statement. 'Me? And Nawt? Married?'
A part of her wanted to cry of happiness, but another part of her wanted to grab Nawt by the shoulders and shake him silly while screaming 'what did we just do?!'. As much as she would want to be entirely happy about the whole thing, it didn't sit right with her, knowing that her brother remained unconscious along with Pound while she and Nawt exchanged an ultimate lifetime guarantee with no refunds and without the knowledge of their dear friends.
Bupkus couldn't bring himself to lie to his precious little toddler. He nodded with a small smile. "Yes, Marie. They are."
Nawt saw the torn look on his beloved's face and felt slightly disheartened. "Kari, I can explain…"
Kari sighed and looked over at Nawt, a tinge of sadness in her eyes. "Nawt, you don't need to explain. We both have wanted this, but I just wish…" she felt her eyes pricking with oncoming tears. "I only wish that my brother could have been awake so that way we could tell him, too. He and Pound. I am not mad. In fact, I am rather touched…I just wish they could see for themselves, too."
Unable to hold back her tears, she stepped back and pulled her jacket back on. She turned around and went to sit in a chair at the other end of the infirmary. Elise and Lexi exchanged glances and nodded. Taking the toddler gently by the hand, Elise looked over at the Monstars. "We will leave you guys to talk things over. Kari, are you staying?"
Kari didn't look at her but nodded her head. Elise bit her lip, feeling a little sad for her friend. "I understand. Take all the time you need."
The Tunes took this as a cue for them to follow the other girls out of the infirmary and upstairs into the manor while they wait for everything to tide over between the Monstars and the younger Rodgers sibling.
Once they left, Bang closed the glass door that led out of the infirmary and secured it. "We need to have a long talk about all this, so I suggest we all sit." He growled.
The others merely nodded and muttered in agreement, while Nawt took a seat next to his wife. He looked over at the unconscious bodies of their allies, who were completely unaware of what had transpired.
Once they were seated, Bang spoke up again. "Alright. You better be good at explaining how this happened. We won't be angry, like Elise said, but we are your friends, Nawt. Same to you, Kari. We would like to be filled in all of this." He gestured at the two as if they were some confusing jigsaw puzzle pieces.
Before either of them could utter a word, the lights went out. Bupkus let out a shrill scream like a damsel in distress. Bang felt for a box on the wall and opened it, triggering the emergency lights on. "What the hell?!"
Blanko glanced around, trying to regain his vision from the immediate darkness. The lighting was still lightly dim, but it was better than nothing. Nawt turned to face his wife, only to find that she wasn't next to him.
"Looking for someone?", a smooth cultured voice spoke from behind them. The Monstars all turned to see none other than Painstake, and in his vice-like hold, an unconscious Kari.
"Kari! Let go of her!" Nawt snarled, throwing himself out of his seat and honing on his ex-boss' brother. The others reacted as well, ready to make the jump.
With a snap of his fingers, electricity shot from around them, electrocuting the Monstars. They all roared in excruciating pain before they all collapsed on the floor out cold.
Keeping his tight hold on the girl, Painstake snarled. "And here I thought you bozos were smart. Sheesh. My brother sure knows how to pick 'em."
"Shame you both are going to meet in hell." Another voice spoke from behind, with a deep rumble. Painstake raised a ridge and turned around and smirked. "Well, well! Look who finally decided to rise and shine and smell the roses!"
Before the dark menace, now standing fully conscious next to the beds from where they were resting, were Hale and Pound, with looks that could kill.
