A Crazy Doctor.
Blackwatch the covert ops section of Overwatch that engages in secret missions that often include questionable actions. Two of these members were Genji Shimada, a cyborg ninja with a dark past, and Katarina, the red headed fighter who finds thrill in combat, and has a questionable sanity. Right now both were being sent on a mission by the leader of Blackwatch Gabriel Reyes. Both of them were checking their blades while they were being briefed on their mission.
"Alright you two, your mission is to investigate Osweld Asylum" Reyes began.
"An Asylum? Sounds like a fun trip" Katarina said as she played with her knife.
"Why are we being sent there?" Genji asked.
"As I'm sure you know, Osweld Asylum puts up the public image of being a very effective institution offering shelter and support to people who are mentally ill, like Asylums are meant to do. However, there has been rumors going around it" Reyes began to explained.
"What kind of Rumors?" Katarina asked.
"Inhumane treatments and questionable cures. Some rumors claims that their patients didn't become insane until after they were sent there. Mysterious cases like normal people suddenly having a mental break down, which required mental treatment. But many of these people never had any history of mental illnesses before being committed to Osweld Asylum" Reyes answered.
Genji stopped tending to his sword "What does that mean then?".
"It means that there could be something fishy going on in there. But so far the rumors are just that, rumors, there isn't a shred of hard evidence that the Asylum is doing anything questionable. But recently, we discovered there had been no communication signals going from or to the Asylum. Meaning something has happened, making this the our best chance to get a peek inside. I sent the two of you because you both specialize in stealth, and are good at getting in and out without being seen. I would come along, but I need to speak to Morrison" Reyes said "I trust you two can handle this".
"Understood" Genji said.
"Got it boss" Katarina said simply.
Soon they landed a safe distance. They walked the rest of the way before Osweld Asylum came in to view. There wasn't much activity. Genji and Katarina shared looks before they snuck over to the Asylum, keeping a close eye out for security cameras... not that it mattered as they noticed there wasn't any guards, which added to their confusion. They carefully snuck inside the Asylum and even the inside was dead silent. Something wasn't right about this whole situation.
"Alright, I will admit it. This place is spooky" Katarina said.
"Indeed. Something isn't right. Let's split up to cover more ground. But stay in contact, we have no idea what to expect from this place" Genji said.
"How sweet of your to worry about my safety, ninja boy. Don't worry, I got this" Katarina said before heading down a hallway.
Genji shook his head before heading down another path. Nothing seemed to of about the upper floors. Other than the clear lack of patients. But it didn't take long before both Blackwatch members found a door that lead to the lower floors... a door that only a select few were allowed to open. But Katarina and Genji didn't care about opening the door, so they just broke them down instead and headed down.
"Alright Genji, heading down to the lower floors now" Katarina said over the communicator.
"Same on my end. Let's scout our parts and then meet back up" Genji said.
"Got it" Katarina said.
Genji narrowed his eyes. He could see where all the rumors were coming from. This was definitely not a normal Asylum. It looked more like a research center. Which left the question: What on earth were they studying here?
With Katarina, she had the bad luck of finding where the patients were being kept. All of them were utterly insane, and when they spotted her they made several creepy comments. One of them wanted to suck her beautiful eyeball, one wanted to cut the skin of her butt and keep it, which made Katarina want to stab him. And one said he would be happy to go to hell if she brings him there.
These comments weren't limited to the men wither, a woman gave her a creepy look "Red haired angel! Come closer, I want to make babies with you, beautiful babies!".
Katarina was tempted to tell the woman that two women can't have children the normal way. But then she remembered she was talking to an mentally insane person, and any responds could unintentionally lead the woman it to believing that Katarina wanted kids with her, which she didn't.
So Katarina kept walking with the woman calling after her "Come back! I can be really tender!".
"What the hell happened to these people?" Katarina wondered. And why would the patients be cooped up like this? The point of Asylums is to give mentally ill people the treatment they need. They require care and shouldn't be left like this. Whoever was running this place is a sick bastard. One who deserved to pay for this.
Little did Katarina know, she was not alone. Something else was nearby... something far more dangerous.
Meanwhile, Genji entered an office... which had been completely destroyed and showing clear signs of a struggle. Genji found a laptop which luckily was still intact. He picked it up and turned it on. Once again he was in luck as the laptop was still logged in. Genji began going through until he found video files on an experiment. Curious, Genji played one of the messages.
The video turned on to reveal a man "This is Dr. Osweld, the founder of Osweld Asylem. We have successfully managed to keep our public image clean, despite some rumors. But the number of specimen for our experiments keeps getting smaller. So we've been forced to collect some specimen ourselves. Just a few false reports of mental illness is all we need to get people committed to our fine Asylem. They may not be insane now. But once we're done, they will be".
Genji glared at the screen. Those bastards were somehow creating false mental health reports to get perfectly sane people to be committed to their sick Asylum. But what did they need them for?
Genji played the next video "Our strategy is working perfectly. We are getting more new specimen than we know what to do with. Some proved a little more difficult than the rest, but the experiments are well underway. My favorite project is a former enforcer of a criminal gang. There wasn't even a need to fake a mental illness for him, no one notices if a thug disappears. His large size made him perfect for the experiments and he is already showing fascinating results. His skin color has begun to change. Most fascinating indeed. We need to see what other results he can provide".
"Bastards..." Genji muttered.
But there was one more video left, and this one was recent, Genji prepared himself and played it "Oh my god! What have we done? My goal was to see if I could help push human evolution forward at a faster rate. But we crated something... I don't even know what to call it! We created a monster! The guards are containing it now, but I fear our experiments have gone far out of even our control. I-".
Suddenly another voice was heard of camera, speaking in a very broken pattern "There you are! Me Mundo say your turn for treatment!".
Osweld looked horrifed "No! Stay back!".
"You sick. Me Mundo have cure! Me take good care of you!" The other voice said before a purple hand grabbed Osweld and dragged him away while he was screaming in terror.
Genji had wide eyes by what he just saw, but then he realized something and quickly contacted his partner "Katarina! Katarina are you there!?".
"I'm here, what is it?" Katarina asked.
"We need to regroup now! We are not the only ones walking around outside the cells! There is something else in here with us!" Genji said urgently, Katarina was about to answer, but she stopped "Katarina? Katarina!?".
The reason Katarina didn't answer, was because she had stepped in to a horrifying room. There was blood everywhere, spilling from corpses that had been cut up and dismembered. She had seen some really horrific things in her life, but this level of brutality was to much, even for her. Suddenly she heard something. She turned around and got wide eyes when she saw hulking, purple monstrosity blathered unintelligibly as a large blue tongue lolled out the side of its gaping mouth. Muscles bulged grotesquely beneath its undersized garments, and its fist tightened around the handle of a surgical saw.
The monster turned and noticed her "Ah, new patient. You ill, why else would you be here? Me Mundo will take good care of you".
The purple monster who seemed to be named Mundo, lumbered toward Katarina, wagging his bonesaw in anticipation, while his tongue was hanging out of his mouth. Katarina snapped out of her shock and quickly avoided a swing from the bonesaw, she struck up with her fist, hitting Mundo right in the jaw, knocking his head sideways. But Mundo simply looked back with a disgusting smile.
"Thank you, but Mundo is fine. You the one who need treatment!" He said as he reached out with surprising speed, grabbing Katarina by the head and lifted her up.
Katarina quickly kicked him in the face as hard as she could but he did not loosen his grip, so she quickly pulled out one of knives and stabbed him in the arm, cutting it to the point he couldn't control his hand anymore and let her go. Katarina jumped back, but to her surprise she saw Mundo's arm began to heal up, and soon he regained motion in his hand again.
"Stop that! Mundo Doctor here! Mundo not need treatment!" Mundo said as he charged Katarina who had pulled out both her blades.
She avoided his swing and slashed him across the chest. She then flips over him before using her doward momentum to stab him in the back. Mundo tried to reach for her but his bulke made it hard to reach someone who was barely half his size. Katarina stayed on his back until she kicked him in to a several electric wires. Mundo rechived a massive shock that would kill any normal human... but Mundo was just laughing at it. What kind of monster was he?
Mundo charged Katarina again... at even greater speed than before. She leaps over him but this times he quickly swings at her again while she was still in mid air. Katarina was forced to block with her blades, but the force of Mundo's strike sent her flying in to a wall. Mundo stalked towards her, ready to finally give Katarina her treatment... until several throwing stars hit him in the back. Confused he turned around and saw Genji.
"More patients? Mundo always busy" Mundo said.
"Genji! He heals from any non fatal injuries. You need to take him down quickly" Katarina called out.
"Got it" Genji said as he grabbed his dragon blade "Ryƫjin no ken wo kurae!".
With a single swing, Mundo's chest was split open, making him fall to the floor... looking dead. Genji helped Katarina up, both a little shaken up by the utterly insane thing they had discovered. After that, the Asylum was shut down, but there was no one left alive to arrest and answer for all the crimes. Mundo's body was recovered.
But back in the current time, Mundo was indeed alive. Some wounds just takes longer to heal. And right now he was contained within a secret Talon base. With Moira running some tests. After the fall of Overwatch, Talon had managed to gain possession of the large monster and wasn't about to let him go to waste.
"So you are stronger than any human and you can heal from normally fatal injuries. Interesting. I believe I can learn a lot from you. Maybe something I can use for my own experiments" Moira said with a smile before going back to work. Oh yes she was very interested in what secrets Mundo could help her solve.
The world had not seen the last of Dr. Mundo. He still had a lot more patients he needed to cure.

The Mundo reword inspired this chapter. Gotta say, he is as freaky as ever.
