Chapter 5

Disclaimer: Will we learn what's afflicting Lance in this chapter? Perhaps, perhaps not!

"Oh my, no wonder Charlie and Hank weren't able to find anything. If I didn't have the advanced equipment that I do have, I wouldn't have been able to find anything either." Murmured Moira to herself sometime later after going over everything that Hank had brought her.

Hank himself was in a guest bedroom resting up due to the long flight. "Something the matter, Dr. MacTaggert?" Asked one of her nursing aides as he came into the lab.

"Oh, just something the Xavier Institute has me looking into, Thom. Care to take a look? As its fascinating yet worrisome to find microscopic germs in his patient's white blood cells that look a bit like Cobra Snakes if I'm not mistaken."

And from what she remembered, Cobras were highly venomous and there was no way this could be a naturally occurring thing. Making Moira wonder if perhaps the patient had somehow been poisoned by someone, perhaps someone with a grudge against Mutants. But such a thing would have taken time to perfect, not to mention keeping it from spreading in the process. And if that was the case, she was damned glad she had made the decision to have Rahne return to the island after the reveal of Mutants everywhere. Even if her wee girl did not like that one bit. Not to mention that these microscopic Cobras had invaded young Lance Alvers' X-Gene and had effectively managed to shut it off. Which was also quite worrisome in her view.

So lost in her thoughts, she failed to notice Thom's paling face as he looked at the results that had been sent to Muir Island. "My God, it can't be." Muttered the man in shock.

After further looking into it, the man known as Thom pulled out a phone, dialed a number, and then spoke into it. "This is Foxtrot Green 112, we have a Code Adula, I repeat, we have a Code Adula at the Xavier Institute in Bayville, New York."

His deadly serious voice broke Moira from her thoughts as he put up his phone. "Thom? What's going on? 'Code Adula?' What on Earth is that?"

He looked at her with an expression on his face that unsettled her. "Remember how a small town in the state of Illinois was completely wiped out back in the early 90s with no real explanation?"

Moira frowned and thought over that for a moment until she remembered. "Yes, I, God, that was a horrible time. No one knew who was behind it…"

"Well… That's the Adula Virus. Which shouldn't even be possible to still be around at this point." He told her bluntly.

Causing her to pale. "Oh my… This could potentially cause a number of deaths to occur, couldn't it?"

Thom merely nodded in a grim manner. "Frankly, its a miracle this patient of Professor Xavier's isn't dead."

Elsewhere At A Hidden Base Somewhere In Maine

The ringing of a telephone could be heard in the office of the man who ran the base that was so top secret, not even the President or the Governor of Maine knew where it was. Which was a good thing in the view of not only the General, but those who served on the base and those who lived in the nearby community. "Oh good, a phone call to save me from paperwork." Muttered the man happily as he answered the phone.

"This is Hawk."

The man known as General Hawk, who led the world renown fighting force known as G.I. Joe back in the late 70's to early 90's listened to what was being said on the phone. His eyes widening in horror and his face paling as he did so. "Oh sweet Jesus! I'll get right on it!"

For a moment, Hawk sat back in his chair as he thought over the information regarding the Adula Virus situation. A situation he had hoped to never see again after Cobra had caused the deaths of numerous lives in a small Illinois town as nothing more than a test to see how well it worked. And it had worked a little too well in the man's view. Interestingly enough, this was one of the reasons that finally led to the end of the terrorist organization known as Cobra after years of fighting against them. God I hope we're not about to get another Illinois incident.

Letting out a breath, Hawk sat up and got on his special intercom system. "This is General Hawk, I need all available personnel ready to go in the next 15 minutes for a quarantine situation in Bayville, New York! We've got a potential Adula Virus outbreak so move, move, move!"

Well, I wanted a break from paper work, but this is DEFINITELY NOT what I had in mind...
