Was in the mood to write something about Cap due to my love for him and I was craving Cap-centric stuff, so I decided to once more come up with an infinitely better ending for him than canon, plus Sharon is a proper and pardoned agent here.
Cornholio4 once gave me this idea back in 2019 so thank you to him.
Steve walked back into the Avengers Compound after having returned all the Infinity Stones to their respective time periods.
The losses of Natasha and Tony were still fresh in his mind. He'd never see either of them again, after what they had done to save the whole Universe, it was unfair truly.
He had also gotten a glimpse of Peggy while returning the Infinity Stones and was almost tempted to go back to her and leave all this behind, since he did not want to live in a world where Natasha and Tony were gone.
But how could he do that? They would both be ashamed of him if he did something like that. Not only would he mess up Peggy's life, making an alternate timeline where she wouldn't meet her husband and have children with him, he would also leave those who cared about him behind.
He may be a man out of time, but he was never a man without a life, without those who cared about him, who loved him.
Bucky was here, Sam was here, Wanda was here, Thor, Bruce and Clint were all here. They needed him, especially Wanda after she had lost Vision and now Natasha. Clint and his family needed him too, they had lost Natasha, who was Clint's best friend, and also a good friend to Laura, and 'auntie Nat' to their kids.
Thor had now finally started recovering from his depression and PTSD, and was trying to be the King of Asgard now, he would need Steve too.
Pepper and Morgan needed support as well, having lost Tony. And Steve knew in spite of their differences, Tony would trust him to take care of them, so he would.
Queens too, he was broken up by his mentor's loss, he needed another one now, one who could teach him to be the best of them all, because he had the potential to be so.
Plus he had made Sam the new Captain America now, he was retiring. What he was going to do, he had no idea, but he was retiring from the front lines now. Either way, Sam would also need him to be Captain America, and so would Bucky, as he would help Sam.
No matter what he wanted, Steve would never leave his loved ones behind. And deep down, he knew he didn't really want to go back to Peggy at all.
He would stay here, and be there for everyone else.
Then he heard the screeching of tires and turned around as a government car stopped, and out walked Sharon Carter.
"Sharon?" Steve asked in surprise. "Long time no see."
"Hey Steve", Sharon greeted as they hugged and shared a kiss on the cheek. "I'm sorry about Natasha and Tony."
"Thank you", Steve nodded sadly as they parted, then he asked. "What's the matter?"
"President wants to see you", Sharon revealed, making Steve's eyes widen in shock.
"What? Seriously?" Steve asked, groaning. "What did I do now?"
"It's not what you did, it's what you will do", Sharon said with a wink, confusing Steve as she opened the door for him. "Come on."
"Fine", Steve sighed as he sat inside.
Later, they reached the White House and got out, walking in together as Steve asked. "You're not going to tell me what it is, are you?"
"Surprises are not meant to be spoilt", Sharon simply said with a smirk as both chuckled, and walked inside, eventually reaching the door of the President, as Sharon knocked. "It's Agent Carter with Captain Rogers."
"Come in both of you", the President said as both of them walked in and the President stood up to greet Steve.
"Thank you Agent Carter", he thanked Sharon who nodded, then smiled at Steve and walked out.
"Honored to meet you Captain Rogers", the President said as he held out his hand and Steve shook it.
"The honor's mine, Mr. President", Steve said, sounding a little wary due to his past experiences with the government.
"Come on Captain, we have something for you", the President said as he led Steve outside the room, and eventually they came in front of another door as the President pushed it open.
It was an office, a well-decorated one, with photos of Steve and also Steve with various Avengers around.
"I hope you find it to your liking", the President told Steve, who looked around in surprise.
"What is this?" Steve asked, eyes narrowed.
"Your office, Captain Rogers", the President revealed, surprising Steve again.
"Office? For what?" Steve inquired.
"You are the head for our newest department- Humans-Inhumans relations", the President said and Steve's eyes widened. "After all these incidents, we realize now that those with innate powers, Enhanced or Inhumans, want to live their lives in peace. Of course there are bad ones, but not all of them are bad, there are normal ones too, and we would like to make sure that all of us can coexist peacefully with each other like people, and not be at arms."
"And you want me to do it", Steve realized.
"Who better than you Captain? We saw some footage of the battle against Thanos. There were Gods, Billionaires, Agents, street heroes and aliens, and all of them listened to one man", the President pointed to Steve. "You."
Steve realized he was getting another purpose now, to help make the world better by making peace between those with powers and those who were normal. It was a big job, but he wanted to do it, he knew it now, he may not want to be on the front lines, but he wanted to help.
This was it.
"I'm in", Steve said as he held out his hand. "Thank you, Mr. President."
They shook hands.
"Welcome to the White House, Captain Rogers."
And done, this was fun.
Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with some other update.
