Now if this seems rushed, remember, I'm not as good at psychological stuff as I am at action-driven stories with decent plot and heart and humor, so now I'm sliding back into my normal territory.
Though I hope I did decently with what's not my territory aka the psychological stuff.
Guest: I say Cap, since Michael is really slow in comparison to him and while strong, Cap is a lot stronger.
Chapter 5- Telling the secret
It had been 2 weeks since Paige had been going to the group support sessions, and every time she advised someone who needed it, she felt herself unburden a little, and felt a little closer to her spirit as well.
Then there was Steve, every time he spoke, a person was helped, he just had that quality in him which made him something else.
But Paige still didn't feel like the person she used to be, and she had difficulty in pointing her finger in the right direction there.
Before the group support sessions, Paige had pretty much given up on herself and had stopped living, and started existing instead. She had thought that was how it would be for her now till the end of her days.
But after the group support sessions, the will to live had returned within her, a good bit of it at least.
However, the problem with herself, she really needed to figure it out now, how, she realized there was only one way there, and she had a feeling she would not regret it.
Paige was at the group support session once more, with all of them in their places, including Steve and Jimmy.
Then one guy sighed and told his own story. "I've been sober for 8 months now." They shot him sympathetic looks as he said. "I didn't stop before though, when I really should have. My wife wanted me to stop, to be with her, spend time with our son, he was a good kid, but I didn't listen then. Now I've stopped but they are-" He stopped, trying to control his tears. "I'm a bad person, I don't deserve to be happy."
Steve looked into his eyes and assured. "That's not true."
"How can you say that?" The man asked him.
"Because you're showing right now that you are a good man, only a good man feels regret for his mistakes and wants to repent for them", Steve pointed out. "You're not a bad person, and you do deserve happiness."
"But it's impossible to get any."
"Yes, it is", Paige agreed as all turned to her. "But I guess if we keep thinking like that, it will be another obstacle in our way."
That had everyone thoughtful as Jimmy commented. "You know, you two really sound like each other sometimes." Steve and Paige looked at each other and shook their heads while the others had some light chuckles at that.
Paige wanted to share stuff about herself right now, but decided to wait for a bit, it was only one person who needed to hear that. She felt this stuff should be more intimate and private than what she had shared of her relationship with Brody earlier.
Like all the previous ones, this one went on for a good while too before it was all finally done, and the people started leaving as Paige took a deep breath and walked to Steve. "Cap?"
"Yes Paige?" Steve turned to her as he put all the chairs in their places.
"Can we talk? Please?" Paige asked him.
"Sure", Steve said as he started walking outside. "Come on."
Paige walked with him and said. "It's something about the therapy stuff."
"You could have said that in session too", Steve pointed out.
"I want to, I really want to, but I think its best if I tell this only to you, because I think you're the only one who can help me with this", Paige said, sounding like she was almost begging as Steve turned to her, his expression softening now.
"Please tell me then", Steve urged as the two were now out of the building.
"Well", Paige trailed off before saying. "I'm a Witch."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Okay."
With all the stuff he had seen, meeting a Witch was nothing much in comparison really.
"I knew you'd believe me", Paige said with a little smile before saying. "And I'm not just a Witch, me and my sisters, we were, uhh, we were the Charmed Ones, really special Witches, destined to be the most powerful ones, the Power of Three."
Noting the past tense, Steve knew what had happened and said regretfully. "I'm sorry."
"I was given up for adoption when I was a baby though", Paige explained to him as they walked down the alley together. "Because there could be only 3 Charmed Ones, and I had 3 older sisters, plus my mom divorced her husband and conceived me with her Whitelighter."
"What's a Whitelighter?" Steve asked.
"They are Guardian Angels to Witches, sent to guide them, my mom fell in love with hers, and like I said, there could be only 3 so I was given away and adopted, and they were good, until they….."
"I'm sorry", Steve said again, grasping her shoulder, and she didn't mind.
"Then my oldest half-sister died, and I felt the need to attend her funeral, there I met Piper and Phoebe, my other two sisters", Paige had a wistful smile now. "I had a family again. They loved me, I loved them. I found myself. We were all happy together, and then….."
"Yeah", Steve nodded sadly, knowing what she was talking about. "I failed to stop him. I'm sorry."
"I know you guys would have tried your best", Paige assured him. "Besides, that stupid thing with the Accords would have hampered your ability to help as well."
Steve nodded, as the Accords had been a big issue for sure.
"Now I lost them all, so I moved here to leave them behind", Paige told Steve honestly. "I don't use my magic anymore either, it reminds me of all the things I lost, I just…..I don't know who I am anymore."
"I know who you are, as well as you've let me know anyway", Steve said, surprising her as she turned to him.
"Who do you think I am?" Paige asked Steve.
"You're Paige Matthews, a good and kind woman who has been struck by tragedy and is now getting help in a group support session, and helping others at the same time", Steve told her honestly. "I think not being connected with your magic, that's your problem currently."
"But you see…..using magic, it reminds me of them", Paige said sadly, looking like she was going to break down now. "And I don't have them so its just…its been really hard without them."
"I know, I'm sorry", Steve said with sympathy in his voice as he looked her up and down. "But you're clearly not in the best condition, its magic you need I think."
"It reminds me…." Paige was teary-eyed now. "I wish now I'd never met them. I wouldn't have to lose everyone I cared about again."
Steve, on instinct, gave Paige an embrace which she returned as he stroked her hair, allowing her to cry into his shoulder, as she let out all the emotions she had bottled up since the loss of her whole family.
"It's all right, I'm here", Steve assured as he comforted Paige, stroking her hair and back as she cried for 5 full minutes before finally stopping, and they parted as she sniffed, and he wiped her tears.
"I'm sorry", she told him. "It was-"
"You lost your whole family Paige", Steve pointed out to her. "You don't have to apologize for how you choose to mourn."
Paige nodded, accepting his wisdom as she said. "I think I should go now. Thank you for being there for me."
"You're welcome", Steve said with a smile. "You sure you don't want me to walk you home?"
"I'm sure, I can do it", Paige assured him and Steve nodded as he started walking off into the opposite direction, and Paige walked off too, now feeling a huge burden had been lifted off of her shoulders at last.
Suddenly Paige grasped her head, and was shocked by what happened next-
An arrow from a Darklighter hit Paige as she gasped and went down while the Darklighter stood over her. And it was in this very alley!
Paige's eyes widened as she threw herself down at that same moment, avoiding an arrow coming at her, and she turned around to see a Darklighter lowering his crossbow.
"How did you know I was there?" He asked as he raised his crossbow again.
"I have no idea", Paige said as he fired once more but she raised her hand, using magic properly again for the first time since the loss of her family.
"Arrow!" And then she orbed the arrow and hurled it back at the Darklighter who used his black orbing to escape, and then he was right in front of her when suddenly a punch knocked him away into a dustbin, knocking him out.
It was Steve!
"Come on!" Steve said as he held out his hand. "Come with me!"
Paige nodded and grasped his hand, the two running away together as the Darklighter started coming to again, and noticed both were gone.
"Damn it!"
If this feels rushed, like I said in the opening A/N, its because I realized I'm not as good at writing trauma and angst stuff as I am at writing action-thriller stuff with humor, which is on me.
But anyway, things are picking up now, and yes, Paige just had a premonition like Phoebe, how that happened, I'll explain later.
Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
