Author's note 1:
(WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH FANFICTION?!)
Considering how much time I will now have (thank you summer!), I shall try to raise up the production time of each chapter so I may deliver them as fast as I can.
Xivu: If we consider the gameplay to be canon we can safely assume that the Guardian had to use only his weapons and melee at some points of the fights, thus giving him plenty of experience over the years. I do not recall Chief killing Gods though, so I don't agree on the experience thing. But aside from that? Chief too follows orders and shoots most of the time, just as the Guardian does.
Thank you for your review!
GodzillaMaster: You'll see for the power thing. Now? Here's the thing, or three to be precise:
1 It's always unfairly. If we consider the Light, Guardians always win. If we take out the light, Chief wins 'cause he has more advantages. Unfortunately this comparision shouldn't even exist because canonically we all know what the Guardians ez rekt Master Chief without that much of an issue. And those who deny this are fanboys.
2 Again, I do not recall Chief killing Gods, saving the city from an infused-in-light Ghaul or even obtaining new powers thus becoming stronger each year. I do not agree on the experience thing. You may argue that we always used the Light, but if we consider gameplay we do not always use it.
3 You underestimate Titans. To make the fight fairly, we MUST take out the Light and Darkness. Now, a Hunter would be quick but would be ez rekted by a few punches, a Warlock isn't that good in melee and he would be ez rekted too.
Titans? Titans are the perfect match. While they may lack in speed, as our dear Guest pointed out a Titan managed to shake an entire mountain with a single punch, maybe she used Light but her strength did most of the work. Their durability balances the encounter.
4 Even the most professional soldier may fall for that trick. While it is true that Chief is a great strategist and can keep his composure always under check, there's no denying that during a fight million of thoughts race through his mind.
Think about it, Drake stops shooting. Various outcomes wash upon the Chief's mind. Did he change position? Did he flee? Was he waiting? What was he doing?
And a sudden and HEAVY sound echoes from his left.
I do not agree with your point, sorry.
Now, Chief saw what Drake was capable of with a single gun. Would you risk of being obliterated while you have a simple gun and your enemy has a shotgun, or would you take the offer of going in a fight where you know you might hold some advantages?
Answer this, please.
Thank you for your review!
Rook435: Mine is actually the first one to bring ahead a Chief-Guardian interaction, I don't know why.
Thank you for your review!
Brother Bov: Would you look at that? It seems that I don't agree.
1 Did you ever watch "Face Off"? If yes, you'll notice how in some parts they shoot at each other and then just stay there talking to each other.
If I had to make the classic meeting of: "Okay, you have this, that, blue eyes, a cool armour" and yadda, yadda, yadda! There was no other choice but write that.
2 This is more of a counter criticism because this might look… strange.
It is literally in the Vanilla campaign that we witness this!
Ghaul cages the Traveler, we lose the light but we can FEEL it. There is no limitation to my story, no rules to bend, because it is canon!
We can FEEL Light or Darkness.
3 I never said I would have made a good fight and delivered an awesome ending. I'm not good at fight choreography, hell I don't even get paid for writing these.
Sorry for your dislike, but that's all I could do and won't change it.
4 This is the problematic part, to be honest.
I'll leave you a simple question and I want YOU to answer it.
What can luck do against paracausal powers that can bend the rules of physics?
Please, in the review of this chapter, answer this question.
Sorry if it seems aggressive but I needed to point it out.
Thank you for your review!
Guest: Any you want, I personally use the one from the Hawkmoon quest.
Phew, that was long.
Enjoy!
Drake had done many things over the years, witnessed and lived encounters that has become legend.
He has become legend.
The Titan destroyed the Heart of the Black Garden, killed Crota, Oryx, Aksis and captured Skolas. He then saved the last city from Ghaul, became a sort of champion for Calus, helped Osiris, Ana Bray, avenged Cayde and killed the last ahamkara: Riven.
He helped Eris discovering the pyramid under the Moon and then went to Europa to stop Eramis.
All of this added to the possibility of him wielding the Darkness, something needed but that could be controlled.
But surprises never ceased to hunt him down like a rat…
Like the blue hologram of a lady in a jumpsuit, displayed by the helmet of some sort of unknown super soldier.
He recovered from the shock and oxygen began to fill his lungs again.
Any trace of hostility left his exposed features. He simply opened his palm and his Ghost appeared, he was the better talker out of the two.
The small being stared at the hologram for a few seconds before giving a small chirp and a wave of his fin.
"Uh, hello!" Despite repressing his emotions to concentrate on the objective each time he was given a mission, he almost facepalmed, thankfully he controlled himself before doing it. "I am a Ghost and this…" He rolled and floated near Drake's shoulder. "…is my Guardian and companion, his name is Drake."
Drake raised his hand and gave a quietly wave, still trying to process what the hell was happening.
"Could you tell us what year it is, perhaps?"
At first Cortana didn't answer, may it be that she was shocked at the discovery of another AI, free to roam. Or the fact that this "Ghost" (strange name to call it, considering it was a Covenant vehicle) resembled 343 Guilty Spark, one of her and John's fre-nemies.
Even the Spartan himself became wary of the small robot, half expecting Sentinels to appear and finish the job with their beams. Although the Ghost was smaller than the AI on the first Halo, and he could see the shape of an eye in… "his" center (the voice was male).
"If my calculations are correct, it's the year 2557." She replied with a raised eyebrow. How couldn't they know what year it was?
Ghost's eye widened in surprise and he turned to Drake, seemingly starting an unspoken conversation. Although it was one-sided.
"My fears were proven right, Drake…" The Guardian shifted his attention completely on him. "…that portal may have transported us to another universe. Even if we can account the time travel theory, this planet was never reached by humans and that soldier's armour is almost as advanced as ours, not to mention the AI displayed through a hologram with a personality of her own. This was never achieved by human kind."
Another universe? This meant no Traveler or Pyramids… but…
He looked down at his hand and clenched his fist, watching as it cracked in arc energy.
If there was not paracausal entities here, how could he access his powers?
A groan escaping the Spartan's lips got the Guardian's attention. Despite how a rock he was during the fight, it looked like his super did a number on him as he watched him struggling to get up.
Well, if they needed answers or help to survive on the planet might as well be the first one to approach.
The Titan walked forward, the sound of his boots was catched by Master Chief who tensed.
Chief expected him to continue fighting and he prepared for the worst, but the calm walk and a look of plea by Cortana placated his instincts, understanding the Guardian's intentions.
Drake arrived in front of the Spartan, staring at each other through their visors. Until Drake himself offered a hand, clearly wanting to help him getting up.
Despite the generous help, Chief was still skeptical for two reasons: One, the Guardian tried to kill him not that long ago. Two, would he be able to lift his weight? He was pretty sure that launch had been a vision, no one would have been able to raise his weight like that.
Putting aside those thoughts, he clasped the hand and found himself raised on his weight. His eyebrow slight went up, so he was strong.
As a staring contest was installed between the two fighters, Cortana coughed. "Well, I guess now we can proceed with explanations, right?" She broke the ice, suppressing a shiver by the similarities between the Titan and the Spartan as they turned their heads to her.
Drake wordlessly nodded and broke up from the group. "He's going to retrieve his weapons. Then we'll talk." Ghost said.
Master Chief did not waste the opportunity to do the same, Cortana's hologram momentarily disappearing.
"Guess we made some friends in the end, uh?"
He actually let out a little snort. "I'm not letting my guard down."
She giggled. "You never do, not even with the Arbiter."
Somehow, he found himself offended by the comment.
Once the duo got their weapons, each of them chose a spot to sit down.
Ghost and Cortana reappeared from their respective dimension and helmet.
"Alright…" Cortana began. "…you can start."
She expected Ghost to start talking, but it wasn't his voice that answered. "I'll start. My name is Drake, Guardian of the last City of Humanity and protector of the Light and the Traveler."
The same professional and monotonous voice, straight to the point. Much like Chief.
The female AI opened her mouth to answer, but was interrupted by Chief. "What do you mean by 'Last City of Humanity' and 'Light'? And what is this 'Traveler' and 'Guardian'?"
"We should start from the beginning and keep it short and concise." Ghost chirped and Cortana agreed, while Chief remained stoic, watching Drake. The Titan reciprocated the stare. "Long ago this being called 'The Traveler' came to our planet, it gave us prosperity and technology, our lifespan tripled and we started looking at the stars. Planets became habitable and the Traveler pretended nothing in return…"
Ghost's expression darkned. "Until its worst enemy came to our system, we call it 'The Darkness'. It brought upon us the Collapse and the Dark Age began…" He raised his eye to find that Cortana and Chief were interested in his story. He continued. "…the Traveler sacrificed itself to save us and became dormant. It created the Ghosts, I am one, with the objective to find champions to do what it couldn't anymore: protect Humanity."
He looked to the side for a moment. "I'm not going into full details, but some of the Guardians were not mentally ready to wield powers and used them for their own reasons, with the support of the Ghosts." He mirrored a cough. "Anyway, as time passed Humanity created the Last City, a city where the last progeny of humanity itself would continue to thrive under the eye of the Traveler."
Pride washed upon his stare. "Centuries later, I found Drake in old Russia. He is one of the three classes of Guardians: Warlocks, Hunters and Titans."
"I suppose by the way he fought Chief that he is a Titan, right?" Cortana probed with a question.
Ghost waved his shell up and down, mirroring a nod. "The Traveler's gift helped him fight numerous enemies through the years. Heh, I still find strange on how he chose his name when I revived him."
"What do you mean by 'revived'?" Chief shifted and leaned in to listen.
"Guardians are immortal warriors, raised from the dead when they previously died. Once revived, they lose their memory of who they were and choose a new name for a new start. Drake here…" He motioned to the Titan in question. "…chose his name from an old videogame we found in a storage. I think it was called 'Uncharted'? Or something like that?"
"It is still a good name, little light." Ghost bumped his shell on the Guardian's visor in annoyance while Chief and Cortana glanced at each other.
"So, what you're telling us is that Drake was previously dead?" Cortana's answer was a quick nod from Ghost before he resumed his explanation.
"Drake fought many races over the years: Fallen, Hive, Vex and Cabal." The small robot projected an image when each race's name was spoken.
Chief stared in wave at the pictures, particulary at one of a Fallen Captain: it reminded him of an Elite. "You fought these things?"
"More than once actually." The Titan answered. "My ability to summon the Light and the revival process helped me greatly…" At the confused stares of the duo, he opened his palm and let arc energy flow through it. "…the super I used against him was only one of the many at my disposal."
"Well, considering the proof we have thanks to the fight…" She ignored Chief's shuffling. "…I believe you, but that still doesn't explain why the UNSC never heard of you or of this races, especially if your origins are tied to humans."
"What's the UNSC?" Drake tilted his head.
"The United Nations Space Command. Are you sure you never heard of them?"
"That's because we are not from this universe."
Silence…
Not a single sound came out, not from Cortana, neither from the silent Chief himself.
A nervous smile eventually raised on the AI's face. "Forgive me but I find that rather hard to believe, even with our recent technology the theory of a multiverse hasn't been proved yet."
Ghost rotated his shell. "There is a difference of almost two centuries between your world and ours. And we came from Earth, original planet of Humanity. Not to mention that Drake's powers are of paracausal origins, able to bend the rules of physics…" A smug look presented itself on Ghost's features. "…I suppose neither that has been proved, right?"
At a nod, he shrugged, or attempted to. "If you came from Earth too then it's settled that we crossed dimensions. It's your choice now to believe us or not."
The AI contemplated the answer for a while.
"I believe them."
She turned to Chief, surprise present on her face. "Really? Why?"
"If they were lying it would have been noticed by their tone and body language used in the conversation and what we saw support their theory…" The Spartan turned to the Titan and Ghost. "…they are telling the truth."
Cortana sighed. "Well, I guess we can explain our world's history now?"
Finally done with his explanation, Drake settled down in his seat while Ghost hovered on his shoulder.
"Let's start from who this big guy is!" Cortana motioned with a thumb behind her. "He is Master Chief and he's a Spartan. An elite fighting force chosen from birth, genetically and mechanically modified, trained in combat; they are what kept humanity from extinction. I suppose they are the equivalent of your Guardians, minus the powers, that is."
"Extinction?" Ghost blinked. "Is humanity trapped under war here? I hope you aren't confined behind walls like we are."
The AI shook her head. "The Covenant did reach Earth, but thanks to Chief and the UNSC we resisted and kicked them away from our planet."
"The Covenant?" The word's taste was awful, something told him that the explanation would be too.
Cortana showed various holograms of a few races the Covenant hosted. "A super advanced coalition of multiple, intelligent alien species. The war between our races began on February eleventh. 2525, 32 years ago. From there, multiple battles began; one example is the resistance on the planet Reach, one of our worst defeats…"
Cortana took a moment to compose herself. "…it cost, for Humanity, the lives of 23 billion people."
After all the horrors he witnessed over the years, he still couldn't help but gape at the revealed information.
"Shit." The AI nodded with a shy smile.
A moment of silence washed on the group, Drake however saw Chief staring at his Hawkmoon with apparent interest.
He quietly rolled the gun on his fingers and offered the handle to the Spartan.
Chief recoiled back for a moment. "I saw you staring at it, want to check it up?"
He pondered if he should take the weapon for a moment before nodding. It was heavier than the standard Magnum, he could finally inspect the strange incisions and images around it, he even opened the chamber but found no bullets inside.
"How do you shoot with no bullets?"
Cortana rolled her eyes, despite what people thought about Chief, he had one interest in particular: weapons.
"These are called Hand Cannons back home, they have that special cylinder which contains a precise number of bullets. A charge if you will. That gun? It has nine inside the chamber…"
A grin formed behind his helmet. "…I call it Hawkmoon."
Chief raised from his seat and aimed the gun, he fired a single bullet.
PIUM!
"Now I understand the name. It sounds like a Hawk." He wordlessly offered the gun back.
"It took a bit to forge it too…" Ghost returned in the conversation. "…we had to use the Traveler's Light to create the gun. Fortunately, we had help."
Yeah, help from Crow, but he let that one out.
"You know, now that I think about it. If there is no Traveler or Pyramid here, how can you access your powers?"
Drake tapped his gloved finger where his lips would have been. "I may have a theory. I once met the Speaker in person, you were occupied with speaking to Zavala. During our talk he said this: 'The Light lives in all places, in all things, you can block it or even trap it but the Light always finds its way.'"
He motioned with his hand to the sky. "If we consider the same with the Darkness, maybe the cross between dimensions temporarily disabled our powers. But being a paracausal entity, part of the Traveler or Pyramid's power must have followed us, right?"
He clenched his fist and let it be covered in Stasis. "I am not an expert in science, but that could be it." For their own sake, he chose to not reveal the voices he heard.
It surprised him how Cortana was the one answering. "I may have not enough data on this 'Traveler' you speak about, but if we take in considerations the nature of your abilities, your theory may be correct."
Various roars in the distance caught their attention.
They raised up from their position, with each of their companions disappearing, and pointed their weapons in the direction of the noise.
"It would be best if we worked together from now on…" Drake suggested. "…our ship crashed here and we have no means to get back."
"Cortana? Can you open up a coms link with his Ghost?"
"Give us a second." Moments passed, until she cheered. "And done! His systems are pretty advanced and I detected an unknown power source, but we managed to establish a link in the end."
"Thank you for your compliment, Cortana."
Ignoring their bickering, the new duo started walking.
From enemies, to allies.
(Read the Author's note pls).
Author's note 2:
Nah, I did not mess up the division between each scene, I just need your attention and then I'll delete that later.
Smaller chapter because of review answers but I felt like a chapter on only this was required.
Now, we currently have:
People that want a Titan in the crossover with the trilogy: 5.
People that want a Warlock in the crossover with the trilogy: 2.
To be honest I am a Titan main and would like to do another Titan story. But I would like the opinions of those that still haven't choose a class between the two yet.
From there I'll decide if to listen to democracy and the one with the most votes wins or if I'll choose the class myself.
Although, if Titan is the one chosen, I'll need to make him slightly smarter than his comrades and go against nature. Thus he needs to be clever if he wishes to survive Halo 2.
Let me know and I'll see you in the trilogy!
Until next time!
Gino out!
