Chapter 7- Daddy Dearest

Spike stood up as Angel asked. "Why the hell are you here?"

Stick suddenly appeared there. "Incorporeal again."

Spike and Stick glared at each other as Spike snarled. "You."

"'Ello William", Stick quipped.

"You two know each other?" Cordelia asked as Spike charged Stick but passed through him. He turned when Stick jabbed his nose.

"That's not right!" Spike complained.

"Here I thought you were gonna teach gramps a lesson, you're lame Blondie Bear", Harmony scoffed with folded arms.

"You're an idiot!" Spike told her as she stomped her foot.

Cordelia stepped between Spike and Stick. "Now break it up. Spike, Stick was Matt's mentor. Stick, Spike is Matt's friend."

The Ensouled Vampire and ghost went at the same time. "What?"

Spike turned to Cordelia. "Best friend."

"You wish." Angel said in denial.

"Don't need to."

"Stick, hit him again!"

Stick did and Spike staggered back as Harmony laughed. "You get what you deserve!"

"Stop!" Cordelia cried out and all stopped. She turned to Spike. "Let's call it a night, you find a place to rest, then we'll talk tomorrow."

Next day

Spike sat on a chair as Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, Lorne, Fred, Gunn and Groo stood in front of him, with baby Connor in Cordelia's arms.

Then Matt and Faith arrived as Spike greeted. "'Ello, Mr. Devil and Miss Slayer, nice to meet ya again."

"Spike", Matt greeted as the two shook hands and shared a hug. "Nice to meet you again."

"Hey", Faith greeted too as she and Spike shared a little hug.

"Now they're here, so tell us, why are you here Captain Peroxide?" Cordelia inquired as Spike shot her an incredulous look while Angel and Cordelia shared a smile and the rest laughed at the nickname.

"Not so fun being a captain of something yourself, is it Spike?" Angel inquired.

"Sure, Captain Forehead", Spike sneered and cracked his neck.

"Either way, why are you here?" Wesley repeated.

Spike was about to talk when Stick stepped through the wall, and he and Spike looked at each other, glaring.

"Oh, you", Spike snarled.

"You", Stick sneered back.

"You two know each other?" Matt inquired.

"Rome, 1953", Spike snarled at Stick. "He took on me and Dru. There was another old man with him."

"Really? That happened?" Faith inquired.

"It did, and the other old guy was Colonel Chester Phillips", Stick revealed, surprising them all as they knew who Chester Phillips was due to history. Well, other than Groo who was new to this world still.

"Captain America's commanding officer in World War II?" Fred asked and got nod, and she asked Stick. "You knew him? And he knew of the supernatural?"

"That was when he first came to know if it, he was in Italy for a mission, got roped into the supernatural shit, and the two of us drove the prat and his psycho girlfriend away", Stick said with a shrug as Spike scoffed.

"Yeah, right, drove us away-"

Stick shot Spike a look and he shut up.

"And then he trained you. Blimey", Spike shook his head at Matt. "It has all come full circle now."

"Yeah, so better watch your mouth", Stick said and now Spike shot him a look.

"Anyway, now you should tell us why you are here", Gunn brought them back to the main topic.

"Right", Spike started pacing around. "The Avengers, they want a supernatural branch now to deal with the more mystical boogaboo, since they are not very learnt in that."

"And?" Faith urged him further.

"I was sent to recruit you lot", Spike revealed, surprising all of them at that point. "Personally I was against it, but Captain's orders...and Buffy ended sexy time until I asked."

That brought some laughter before Angel asked. "What about Buffy? Where is-"

"She went off to look for the lovebird Witches with the same offer, but Willow and Tara are hard to find nowadays due to going from place to place while keeping their magical signature at a low, I think we'll meet them only when they want to meet us", Spike told the group. "But anyway, you lot are not hard to find, and I was lucky enough to get our Devil and Slayer too, so what do you lot say?"

"Well, we'd love too, much better than working here, but there's a reason why we are here", Cordelia pointed out to Spike.

"Yeah, by working here we can help a lot of people", Groo added.

"You can do that as an Avenger too", Spike pointed out. "What do you want? Apartment? Cars? You can be set up with those there too."

"It's not about what we want", Angel said. "By working here, we get to keep a close eye on Wolfram and Hart's apocalypse."

"And that's how we stop it", Faith added.

"Besides, the Senior Partners won't take such a resignation lightly, if we want to leave, we have to make sure we have it all in order", Matt finished, and Spike looked between them all, realizing they were not wrong.

"Right", Spike groaned. "Fine, stay here, I'll stay too."

"What? Seriously?" Fred asked him.

"I was sent here to recruit you lot, so I won't be leaving till its done, and if that means I have to stay here till another bloody apocalypse, fine", Spike said with a shrug, but all read between the lines and knew he was staying to help them out, and were silently thankful to him. "Besides, its gonna be a while till I see Buffy again whether I'm here or there, better do something here."

"Thanks Spike", Matt said to him, speaking for everyone.

"Just remember this next time I ask something", Spike said with a smirk as all groaned while he chuckled.

Later, Wesley was in a meeting with a guy called Emil who was flanked by 2 big bodyguards.

"It comes down to trust. There's no Better Business Bureau for what we do. Customer complaints are dealt with through... killing, torture, beating... sometimes...fire." Emil looked at his body guards. "We call it "word of mouth advertising.""

Wesley quipped. "If I'd known this was going to be a seminar, I'd have worn my name tag."

Emil laughed. "Just want to make sure we know where we stand."

"Right now you're standing on the brink of my patience. I agreed to meet with your distributor, Emil, not your...muscle."

"What? Dante and Philip? They're assistants. Here to make us more comfortable. Don't think of them as "muscle."" Wesley glared. "Are you hungry? I could get Dante to fix you a fish sandwich of some sort."

"This is a waste of time", Wesley stood up.

"Please, please", Wesley sat down. "My distributor is simply cautious. He'd like me to verify the merchandise before we move forward. Now...who is this?"

Fred walked up to the table carrying a silver briefcase.

"My muscle."

Fred opened the case and began assembling a gun. "What we've got here is a modification of the TS-113 Sniper Rifle. We've altered its targeting and firing mechanisms to fit the parameters you gave us. Scope works along amplified thermal wavelengths."

"God... You are making me so hot right now."

"Wow. Turned on by a woman holding an enormous gun. What a surprise", Fred quipped before continuing. "We replaced the delivery system with a Bylantine energy charge, eliminating the need for conventional ammunition."

Wesley informed. "Wolfram hart has 200 units ready now. We'll begin making more once we receive payment."

Emil asked. "And your boss doesn't mind selling this exciting weaponry to someone like me?"

Wesley told him the whole deal. "As long as it doesn't show up in L.A. We choose our battles, Emil, and you sidestepped the issue of payment."

"You'll get your money."

Wesley stood, disassembling the gun. "You'll get nothing until I meet with your distributor. I'm not going through middlemen."

"Ah! Did you just refer to me as a "middleman"? You're lucky Wolfram Hart has such good word-of-mouth advertising." Emil reached into his coat, pulling out a pen and paper, then wrote down a number. "There. Call this number. He'll arrange everything."

Matt, in his Daredevil suit, was hidden nearby with Faith, and then the former heard something. "There's something here."

"What?" Faith asked.

"Not sure yet", Matt said and ran just as a hook ended up through the neck of one of Emil's bodyguards, and he choked and grunted as his body was yanked to the air when Matt leapt at the offender and tackled it through the railing of the platform to the floor.

They crash landed and Matt flipped up quickly, kicking the opponent as it rose before tackling it through some barrels.

"Daredevil?" Emil asked in shock as Wesley shot his other bodyguard down.

Faith appeared behind Emil and grabbed him in a chokehold. He struggled but couldn't budge as he passed out in her grip.

Matt and the opponent were grappling with each other before Matt grabbed the hooked chain, wrapped it around the guy's neck before using it to pull and toss it away towards Faith, who hit it with a hard clothesline, making them flip and fall to the ground, with electricity now surging around it as it short-circuited.

"It's a robot", Matt revealed, as Faith took off the mask to reveal it had a metal plate instead of its face.

"What the hell?" Faith muttered as Fred came out of hiding.

"Looks like we have a third party after us", Wesley realized.

Emil's eyes opened to see Groo in front of him, and Matt next to him.

"Where….where am I?" Emil asked in fear.

"You shall tell us all you know", Groo threatened Emil.

"And if you lie, I'll know", Matt added, as Emil gulped.

"Well, we got Emil, it all went according to plan, until the cyborg ninja showed up", Wesley told Angel and Cordelia who stood in the office with Faith and Eve, Connor in Cordelia's arms.

"Either way, we have Emil, he can be 'encouraged' to give us his distributor's name", Angel said, so overall the mission was still a success.

Faith was about to say something, before she turned to Eve, and so did the rest.

"Shall you go out or shall I make you?" Faith asked with a raised eyebrow.

Eve groaned. She could threaten Team Angel with the Senior Partners, but not Faith or Matt due to Matt's Hell-Mark, and realized the Team had one-upped them all by bringing Matt and Faith in.

Smart move, she thought to herself as she walked out.

"Maybe we should give up the distributor's name to the Avengers", Cordelia then brought up to them.

"Or Matt can get in contact with Frank, who'll deal some damage", Faith added.

"We should learn a little more before passing it off though", Wesley interjected, and all nodded, in agreement with this whole plan.

Faith then sighed and asked. "Uhhh, guys?"

"Yeah", Cordelia inquired.

"I kind of wanted to talk to Angel alone", Faith requested them both. "Please?"

"Sure thing", Wesley nodded.

"Yeah", Cordelia said as she shared a kiss with Angel while he kissed Connor on the forehead as they walked out.

"I've a meeting", Cordelia then told Wesley.

"I can take him with me", Wesley assured as he took Connor and both of them walked out of the place.

"This sounds serious", Angel then commented, having noticed Faith's tone earlier.

"Oh, it is, and I usually leave that stuff to Matt, but no, I wanted to do this." Faith was nervous but adamant in tone, which confused Angel on what it could be.

"Faith, is everything okay?"

"It is, and I never thought it would be this way." Faith took a deep breath as Angel stood up and walked around his desk.

"You were, and are, my first real friend. You picked me up when I saw there was no way of getting back from rock bottom. It was because of you, Angel, that I'm alive, and in love, and getting married, can you actually believe that?"

Angel smiled as they both thought on how much she had changed.

"The psycho bitch is getting married to a blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen." She chuckled as she ran a hand through her hair. "Feels like a weird dream."

"But a good one?"

Faith replied honestly. "The best."

She then took Angel's hands in hers. "I don't have a family, but I made one, and it started with you, my much older, brooding brother." They both laughed as Faith got emotional and felt herself tearing up, which she would scold herself for if it wasn't for the weight of the question she was about to ask.

"That's why, I was wondering...will you walk me down the aisle?"

Angel was lost for words, he opened his mouth but didn't speak, after a moment, he smiled and engulfed Faith in a hug.

"I would love to."

They remained that way for awhile.

Stick, who had seen the embrace while walking through the wall, decided to leave them instead of making a quippy comment, and walked off.

In his office, Wesley was going through some mystical text, with Connor in his lap, "teaching" him ancient Sumerian.

"Normally this is past tense," he pointed to the logogram on the page, "but with this character here, it changes the whole sentence to present."

Connor let out a little yelp and baby babble, as Wesley laughed.

"A bit early for ancient language studies, isn't it?" Wes and Connor looked up to see Lilah at the door, watching them, before entering. "Kid can't even speak yet."

Wesley stood and readjusted his grip on the baby. "Yes, well, never too early to learn. Besides, Fred told us he was already mixing chemicals in the lab."

Lilah gave a look.

Wesley shrugged. "Well, he threw his mashed carrot into a beaker, turned the whole thing pink. Somehow." Wesley drifted off, still trying to figure out how that happened.

"Wolfram Hart can afford the best babysitters and daycare on the planet, why not send him off there? I barely see any of you without the munchkin." She pointed at Connor, who waved at her. The act made her smile a bit, which Wesley caught, before she dropped it. "He's a distraction."

"Connor was also the target of several evil, demonic, and less than savory factions before and after he was born, one said factions included Wolfram Hart. Forgive us if we are a tad bit skeptical."

Rolling her eyes, Lilah laughed a bit. "Seeing you there, baby on your lap, old book from forever ago on the desk, it made me wonder what your-"

"Father."

Lilah stopped and turned around to see an older gentleman in the doorway behind her.

"Huh?" Lilah let out.

"I am Roger Wyndam-Pryce", the older man held out his hand, as Lilah shook it.

"Lilah Morgan", Lilah introduced herself, looking between Roger and Wesley. "So you're his-"

"Yes, I am his father", Roger confirmed.

"What are you doing here?" Wesley simply asked.

"I see manners are still a strong point in my son", Roger commented dryly about Wesley before asking Lilah. "Who are you exactly?"

"Oh I'm a lawyer here", Lilah said with a smirk as Roger's niceties dropped in that moment.

"Right, a remorseless worker for this force of evil", Roger now said, glaring at her, but she didn't care.

"I'd love to meet for coffee sometime, you can tell me embarrassing stories about Wes, I can tell you about all the baby heads I've eaten", Lilah joked as he stared, disgruntled, and Wesley rolled his eyes at her joking.

Lilah then walked off. "Enjoy the father-son reunion."

"Lilah", Lilah turned to Wesley who got up and walked to her. "Since I will be talking to my father, take Connor to Lorne."

Lilah immediately shook her head but the baby was already in her arms now, looking at her with his innocent big blue eyes as she started shaking and squirming.

Then immediately, she walked out quickly, looking for Lorne. "Lorne, where are you? Come on, come quickly or I'll drill a hole in your skull again!"

She then bumped into Gunn who asked. "What's going on, partner?"

"Take the baby, please, take the baby, partner!" Lilah said, very freaked out.

"Sure", Gunn took him from her, cooing at him. "Hey little man."

Connor laughed as Gunn turned to Lilah. "You were pretty freaked out there for a second."

"Don't tell anyone, or I'll-"

"Become a Senior Partner?" Gunn joked and walked off with Connor as Lilah groaned.

"Do I have a grandson I was never told about?" Roger asked Wesley gruffly.

"He is the son of a dear friend."

Roger nodded in understanding. "Ah yes, the spawn of two Vampires. An unprecedented event, never would have believed it."

"Believe it. I've changed his diapers enough times." Wesley said before asking. "What are you— Is mom all right?"

Roger assured him. "She's fine. Sturdy as ever. Now, you and I have business to discuss."

Wesley nodded and gestured to a seat in front of his desk. "Sit down." Wesley sat down on his own chair.

Roger sat down and began. "As you may well know, the Watcher's Council was destroyed last year."

"I heard."

"The remaining former Watchers, myself included, have decided to reform the Council, and I've been sent to contact you."

Wesley asked him. "Why was Rupert Giles not informed of this development?" Giles would have told the team about this development if he knew.

"Rupert Giles was dismissed from the Watcher's Council and despite his association in the past, acknowledging him of our reformation was not considered relevant", Roger said with a shrug.

Wesley asked Roger. "So, why are you here, other than to tell me the Council that sacked me has come back?"

"After the embarrassment during your tenure, we have considered taking you back, pending my assessment that is. I'm here to evaluate you."

"Forgive me if I'm not flattered by the offer", Wesley said coolly. "But I already have a job."

Wesley walked out the door as Roger walked out with him. "Ha ha ha. Wolfram Hart. So this is the haven of evil, is it?"

"Not anymore. This isn't the Wolfram Hart you've heard of", Wesley told him.

Roger shrugged. "The atrocities committed by Wolfram Hart are quite well documented."

"We're working to change that. Under our control, this firm's becoming a powerful weapon, one that I think can make a difference. Believe me. We take our work here very seriously."

Lorne walked off the elevator; talking on his cell phone. "You're killing me. If James Cameron wants this foam party to happen, he'll keep his mouth zipped tight. I've been working on this guest list all week. Yes, my entire week. I don't care about the Avatar sequels, Van. Nobody does, they are unneeded, the first film itself has nothing except vibrant effects going for it. Oh, no. Don't tell him that." He hung up the phone and turned to Wesley. "Wesley Wyndam-Price, you should be ashamed. I didn't know you had a younger brother."

"Lorne. Yes. This is my father, Roger Wyndam-Price", Wesley made introductions.

"How do you do?"

Lorne joked. "A father? Well, I don't believe it. Well, OK, I do believe it, but only 'cause I heard you were in the building. Ha ha ha. Well, look at you. It's like Winston Churchill and a young Richard Harris had a beautiful love child, which, according to my sources, may not be as ridiculous as it sounds." He chuckled again.

Wesley explained. "Lorne runs our entertainment division."

Roger quipped. "Entertainment division. Well, I can see how that would be very useful in the fight against evil."

Gunn walked down the steps. "You'd be amazed at how many horrible movies we've stopped. Like the 3rd part of the Disney Star Wars films, and we made them decanonize the first two as well. Just Originals and Prequels, baby. If that's not stopping evil, I don't know what is."

Wesley made introductions. "Gunn, this is my father."

Gunn told him. "It's an honor. This place is buzzing about you. Better watch out. If you're anything like your son here, we might put you to work."

Roger simply shrugged. "You might well be out of luck."

Gunn turned to Wesley. "Hey, listen, the lab called for you. They're working on Robocop upstairs. Need your help."

Roger asked. "Robocop?"

Wesley told him. "We had an encounter with a cyborg last night while we were infiltrating a weapons ring. I should head up there." He then said. "Come along, father, don't want you to get lost."

Roger fumed silently but came along with Wesley.

Matt, Angel, Faith, Stick, Spike and Fred were in the lab with the cyborg as Fred explained. "We found cybernetics throughout the body, in most cases replacing entire organic systems."

"Was it human?" Angel asked.

"Once upon a time", Matt confirmed to him.

"The technology is a mix of Stark, Hammer and AIM tech", Fred told them all.

"Hmph, so blurring lines between humans and a robot, eh?" Stick quipped.

Spike remembered he'd wanted to get a sex-bot based on Buffy back when he was evil, and would have asked Warren to do it had he not been arrested, so he didn't get one, for which he was thankful now, or he'd a feeling Buffy wouldn't want to do anything with him if he did something like that.

God he was such a messed up individual without his soul.

"Some people do that more than you think, mate", Spike commented just as Wesley and Roger arrived.

"Everyone, I'd like you to meet my father, Roger Wyndam-Pryce", Wesley introduced his dad.

"Hello", Roger greeted.

"Daddy, eh?" Spike quipped. "I always thought Wesley was grown in some sort of greenhouse for dandies."

Roger sneered. "Spike."

Spike grinned. "You've heard of me?"

"No. We've met", Roger revealed before giving the details. "1963. My colleagues and I fell upon you slaughtering an orphanage in Vienna. Killed 2 of my men before you escaped."

"Oh... how've you been?"

"I didn't know your father was coming to visit, Wesley", Angel held out his hand. "I'm Angel. Pleasure to meet you."

Roger stared at Angel's hand. "Do you really expect me to shake that?"

Angel sighed and told him. "I'm not real comfortable with hugging. No. I realize this may be somewhat of a horror show to you. But I hope you can keep an open mind. We really are doing good work here."

Roger held out his hand to shake with Matt and Faith, but they stood in place and he sighed.

Looking at Faith, Roger commented to Wesley. "So, this is the other Slayer. Your great failure."

Wesley wasn't going to take it anymore. "I was young and inexperienced, I had rarely entered the field back then, and considering Faith's personality at the time, we were ill-suited", he shared a look with Faith. "Now, after time and growth, we're friends."

"Yeah, just like you intended", Faith sarcastically said to Roger.

"Tell me, father, did you have a hand in sending me to miserably fail in guiding Faith and Buffy?" Wesley asked, arms folded. "You'd know a Slayer's Watcher is always looked down upon by the rest of the Council."

"I don't know what you're talking about", Roger replied but only got a hard glare from Wesley who walked to Fred to help her out.

Stick now commented. "Well, if it isn't one of the old blind, bookworm, cocksuckers."

"Who are you?" Roger asked.

"Name's Stick, I'm sure you've heard of me", Stick revealed with a smirk as now Roger's eyes widened and he glared at Stick in rage.

"So, you two are familiar with each other", Angel noted.

"During World War II, the Chaste took a Slayer called Elizabeth Winters and trained her", Roger revealed.

"Yes, and because of us, she lived for 8 full years till Nobu killed her", Stick sighed sadly at the last bit. He did have a heart, even if he never showed it. "And we didn't make her into our yes-Woman, unlike you lot."

Roger clearly looked incensed about any Slayer the Chaste had taken as Faith asked. "Wonder what a live with the Chaste would be like?"

"You don't want to. Trust me. Just look at him." Matt pointed to the ghost Stick.

Faith's face was surprised before understanding. "I see your point."

"Nice history lesson", Angel said before walking out. "Keep me posted."

"Me too", Faith said after sharing a kiss with Matt, and she followed him out.

"Sure", Fred pointed to a circular device in the abdomen of the cyborg. "We found a series of symbols we haven't been able to decipher."

"Yes. Interesting", Wesley nodded.

Knox now arrived and said. "We're reading trace radiation signatures, so we've been hesitant to crack it open."

"Could be a bomb, some sort of self-destruct device", Fred fumbled with a gadget on the table.

Knox offered Fred. "Let me help you with that. You shouldn't..."

"Thanks", Fred turned to Roger. "Anyway, we were wanting you to decipher it before we went digging around in there. Wesley handles this sort of stuff for us all the time. He's a genius when it comes to languages."

"Oh, the academy didn't make him head boy for nothing", Roger took off his glasses. "Mind you, as I recall, the pickings were a bit slim that year."

Wesley shrugged. "Well, Watchers weren't famous for their quality."

"That's for damn sure", Stick agreed.

Spike let out hysterical laughter at Roger's face before calming himself down. "Sorry…it's just…" He laughed again before stopping.

"Don't push away the flesh there", Matt pointed at some flesh near the circular device inside the cyborg's abdomen. "It can activate the bomb."

"How do you know?" Roger asked.

Spike piped up. "He's got super Hell powers, of course he would know."

"Thank you Matt", Wesley thanked him and then concentrated. "These symbols are Dutrovic in origin. And I think they spell out the proper procedure for handling the cyborg's power core, including this fail-safe Matt just mentioned, in case someone trips the self-destruct device. Quite simple really."

"Let's tell Angel", Fred said and Wesley nodded as the two walked out, Spike behind them.

Matt then walked up to Roger and whispered to him. "If you ever insult my fiancée, or my friends, again, it won't be a bomb that destroys your new Council."

Roger looked at him in shock as Matt walked off after those three.

"He ain't kidding", Stick added before disappearing.

Angel was sitting behind his desk with Faith next to him looking at Matt, Fred and Wesley. "What happened?"

Spike stepped up in front eagerly. "I can explain. Apparently, when Percy here was younger, he used to be known as "head boy.""

Angel shrugged. "Yeah. I already knew that."

"Right. I have nothing else to report", Spike walked away.

"Nothing useful really", Wesley told them. "Just an instruction manual of sorts in a different language."

"Well, it could work if we want to use it", Faith pointed out.

"Yeah, not sure how though", Matt added.

Cordelia walked in and saw Connor in his play pen, picking him up and cooing at him. "Hey little guy, how are you?" She then turned to Wesley. "Heard the great Wesley Wyndam-Pryce Senior is in the building, where is he?"

"Well, Lorne's keeping him entertained", Fred shrugged.

Cordelia chuckled. "Oh this I got to see."

She put Connor back in his play pen with a kiss on the head and walked out.

"Come to think of it, probably not the best idea, I'll rescue him", Fred said and then exited.

Spike told them all. "I'm finished here, too. If you want, I can have someone type up the report about head boy."

"Get out."

"Suit yourself." Spike exited.

"You look frustrated", Faith noted to Wesley.

"It's my father", Wesley shook his head, his frustration showing. "He has always belittled me, and now he is acting like nothing ever happened."

"Fathers", Angel sighed. "That can be torture sometimes."

"Tell me about it", Faith agreed there. "Real bad torture."

Matt felt like the odd one out here due to having had a good relationship with his father, and Angel then told Wesley and Faith. "It's up to us, so we don't end up like them." He looked at Connor as he said that.

Angel then handed Wesley a report. "Look, you should see this. Came from your department. Reports of assassins that sound a lot like our cyborg."

Wesley read those. "Hmm. Group of them took out a demon cabal in Jakarta. Another group destroyed the Tanmar Death Chamber. Sounds like they're doing our work for us."

Angel asked. "These are good guys?"

"Don't be sure, they can have their own agenda", Matt pointed out to them.

"Yeah, not all enemies of our enemies are our friends", Faith agreed with him.

Stick appeared and said. "Yeah, just because they did some good things doesn't mean they did it for the right reasons."

"Speaking from experience?" Angel asked.

"Yeah", Stick nodded.

Wesley later walked to his office when an annoyed Roger walked to him, Cordelia and Lorne having traumatized him.

"Can I come with you?" Roger asked.

"Behave and sure", Wesley shrugged as they walked inside when Lilah walked by.

"You leave me with a baby again and I'll make sure you can't have any", Lilah sneered at Wesley.

"Don't worry Lilah, I'll be sure to grab you at the next diaper change", Wesley retorted as she glared at him and walked off, Roger looking between the two of them.

They walked into the room as Roger asked. "Who is she really?"

"My girlfriend", Wesley said casually, making Roger's jaw drop, while Wesley picked out a book.

"You date a selfish worker of an evil place?" Roger asked him. "Don't tell me she's good too."

"No she's not."

"And you still date her."

"I do, not your business, father", Wesley told him before whispering. "The Saitama Codex."

When Wesley opened the book, the blank pages magically filled with text.

Roger was surprised. "What did you just do?"

Wesley explained. "These are source books, uh, templates. Um, I use them to call forth material in our archives."

Roger asked. "So, you can simply call forth anything as powerful as the Saitama Codex?"

"Yeah, the archive is extensive. We have, well, almost any text you can think of."

Roger now asked him. "Do you realize how dangerous these books are?"

Wesley flipped through the book. "Well, in the wrong hands, of course."

"Yes. Yes, of course. So, you have them displayed... open on a table."

"The most powerful items in my department I keep secure in a vault", Wesley sighed. "I know what I'm doing, father."

Roger told him. "Well, I hope your vault is a little safer than this room. Do you even have a lock on that door over there?"

Wesley snapped. "Gaining access to this building isn't easy. Believe me, the books are safe where they are." He now got into Roger's face, a dark look in his eyes, surprising the man. "Like I said before, you can stay if you behave. If you don't, show yourself out."

Some cyborgs in their all-black outfits jump out of a helicopter onto the roof of Wolfram Hart.

Matt heard the cyborgs landing down in the building and rushed towards the offices to warn the rest.

Groo was in the office after finishing his interrogation of Emil when motion sensors on the roof went off, and he got a notification as he called out to his team. "Team, we have intruders here, we must stop them and warn the others."

Eve got into an elevator and Spike was already there.

"Not to sound self-absorbed, but you can't seem to keep your eyes off me."

Eve quipped. "Now, why would that make you sound self-absorbed?"

Spike told her. "Don't think I haven't noticed. You've been very keen on what I've been doing lately."

Eve sighed. "How's it going, by the way?"

Spike told her. "Save the innocent act. Your "here to help" cheerleader routine may work on Angel, and it doesn't work on him either, and I see right through it. There's more to you than you're letting on."

The lights then went out as Eve said. "That's odd."

"Are you afraid of the dark?" Spike quipped when emergency lights came on and an alarm sounded. "Right, I'll be leaving."

Spike then opened up the ceiling hatch and climbed out of it.

The alarm was blaring throughout the building as Angel and Faith walked out, and so did Gunn.

"What's going on?" Gunn asked.

"Groo called, said there are intruders here, his team is on his way", Angel told them.

Spike ran in and said. "There's something wrong with the elevator."

Groo and some men were on their way when some cyborgs jumped down in their way.

"Take them", Groo ordered as they started fighting them.

Cyborgs jumped around in the lobby, punching the people out as Faith said. "Can't wait for Groo and his team now."

Wesley and Roger were working in the office when the alarm went off.

"Does this sort of thing happen very often around here?"

"We should—" a cyborg burst into Wesley's office wielding a chain. "Down!" Wesley pushed his father to the ground, then grabbed a sword off his wall and engaged the cyborg in a fight. The cyborg sent Wesley across the room, where he landed against the wall, sinking to the floor.

The cyborg walked toward Wesley's table full of magical books. Wesley's father stood, staring at the cyborg.

"Father!" Wesley threw him the sword.

Wesley's father engaged the cyborg in a fight, but Wesley stepped in, wrapping the cyborg in its chain from behind and throwing it off.

"What do you think you're doing? I had attack priority."

Wesley argued. "We're not fencing."

"We still follow the basic rules."

The cyborg started to stand up, so Wesley grabbed the sword out of his father's hands and thrust it into the gut of the cyborg. The cyborg stumbled backwards as electricity surged around him. He fell to the ground.

Wesley then suggested. "There could be more of them in the building. We should get moving."

Roger pointed out. "That thing went straight for the templates when he burst into the room. You can't leave them like that."

"Grab the books."

They each grabbed two of the large leather-bound books. Wesley walked toward a bookshelf, pulling a specific book, causing the bookshelf to slide aside, revealing a secret door behind it. Wesley pressed his palm to a security reader, and whispers to it. "Elysium."

The security door slid open, revealing a secret compartment. Wesley walked inside, and his father followed. Wesley reached into his pocket, pulling out a set of keys.

He selected a key, then unlocked one of many boxes along the wall.

"In my days we fought werewolves, vampires, the occasional swamp man. And now we have protohuman cybernetic chain fighters and aliens."

Wesley put the books inside the open box compartment. "Yes, well, times are more complicated."

"Yeah, I'm beginning to realize that. You handled that fellow... quite readily. At least you haven't gone soft. What's our next move?"

"Are you asking me what I think?"

Roger laughed. "Now, don't look so shocked, boy."

"Well, I think we should contact the others... um, find out to what extent—" Wesley's father pulled out a gun and pistol-whipped Wesley alongside the back of his head.

Wesley fell to the ground, unconscious. Wesley's father took the keys out of the box, walked across the room to another box, unlocked it, and pulled out a small staff of some sort before touching his earpiece. "Phase 1 complete. Begin Phase 2."

Angel, Spike, Faith and Gunn fought the other cyborgs as Angel moved out of one's way and decked him, while Gunn knocked one down and fought another, being sent back. Angel spin kicked his cyborg before sweeping its feet from under it. Gunn ducked one's chains and knocked it back before the other hit him and using its chain, sent Gunn flying into the stairs. Angel had to fight another.

Faith grabbed the hands of two and kicked one twice, sending him flying off before twisting the other's arm and kicking a third. She then elbowed the one whose arm she'd grabbed and punched him off too.

One more tried to punch but she blocked and punched back. She then pushed her foot backwards, kicking another away, then grabbing one more's arm, spun and kicked him off too.

One tried to hit her but she grabbed his collar and punched him off.

She then pushed another down and punched his back multiple times.

Spike spin kicked one away, then blocked another's blow before punching him down, then flipped, kicking one's chin as he was sent flying off.

He then side-stepped to avoid another blow and elbowed that one in a spin motion before spinning and tripping another, knocking him out too.

Cordelia was in the office, Connor behind her, when cyborgs burst in, and she swung her katana in a spin motion, slicing one before dodging another's blow and gave him an upwards slice, then avoided another one before slicing his arm and then chest, kicking him back.

Matt then burst in, kicking one on the thigh, then leaping and kicking it away. Another charged with a punch as Matt blocked, then spun and flipped him over.

Matt dodged blows from another, then grabbing him, flipped him to the ground as well.

He then blocked another's kick and punched, sending him back before flipping him down too.

The other two attacked as Matt dodged and kicked one back and punched the other before dodging the previous' kick, and grabbing the other one, leapt and kicked the one more before flipping the one he'd grabbed down.

He then spin kicked one more, knocking him out.

One rushed to Connor as Cordelia saw and rushed to slice with her katana, but she wasn't going to make it in time.

Then a gunshot rang out as the cyborg fell down, revealing Lilah who lowered her gun. Matt and Cordelia both turned to her in shock and surprise as she walked off.

Wesley bent down over the cyborg to examine him. He pulled the metal shield off of its face, revealing a skinless face beneath. The cyborg grunted in pain.

"Good. You can feel pain. Can you speak?" The cyborg didn't answer. "Let me help you with that." He pushed the sword further into its gut.

It begged in a metallic voice. "Stop, stop."

"Excellent. We're making progress", Wesley pulled the sword out of the cyborg's gut, causing it to grunt. "Let's see if you have a sense of self-preservation." He reached into the cyborg's abdomen, activating the self-destruct device. "What is my father doing? What did he take?"

"No. No."

"Tell me or you'll be destroyed."

The cyborg grunted. "You're bluffing. The explosion will kill you as well."

"Yes, I suppose it will. In fact, I'm guessing it will destroy this entire building, killing everyone, my father included, which would be one way to stop your plan."

Angel fought a cyborg and managed to take it down as another tackled him away. Gunn kicked his cyborg when another wrapped his throat in a chain, only for it to be sent flying off by Stick.

Fred arrived and said. "Angel, Wesley's on the roof, he needs your help."

Matt arrived outside as Faith said. "Let's help Groo out."

"Yeah", Matt nodded and they ran out.

"I'll stay with the Princess and the kiddo", Stick told them.

"What about Eve?" Spike asked, pretty casual about it.

"Who gives a shit?" Stick asked.

"Point", Spike agreed as Stick walked off.

"I'll go get Wes", Angel walked away.

Roger arrived and said. "I'm coming with you."

"Look, I don't have time-"

"He's still my son."

They walked off as Lilah heard and decided to follow.

Angel ran out onto the roof, followed by Wesley's father.

"Wesley! Wes! Where's Wesley?"

No one was on the roof but Angel and Roger.

"Well, that's just the thing. I'm sorry to have misled you, but this was never about Wesley", Roger held out the stolen wand. "Atistrata."

Angel collapsed, clutching his belly and grunting. "It is, by the way, a pleasure to meet you, too."

A white smoke flew out of Angel's body and into the wand, making the tip glow white.

"Don't fight it. It'll be easier for you." Angel grunted as Roger said to his earpiece. "Ready for extraction. We're finished."

Wesley took the staff out of his father's hands. "Not quite." He pointed a gun pointed at his father. "Hello, father."

Roger pulled a gun too. "Walk away from this, Wesley. You'll never understand what we're trying to do here."

Wesley knew what was going on. "You're using the Staff of Devosynn to take Angel's will, make him your slave. Your cyborgs panic a bit too easily."

Roger sneered. "That creature is more dangerous to mankind than you realize."

Wesley knew who was dangerous. "You're wrong about him. He's not what you think."

Roger argued. "He's a puppet. He always has been. To the Powers That Be, to Wolfram Hart. Now he's ours."

Wesley noted. "You went to a lot of trouble to get this staff. You had us attacked, you smuggled in a weapon, you brought in an army so you could escape. I don't know why you're doing all this, but did you ever once consider there might be another way? Did you ever once consider talking to me about it?"

Roger snarled. "No. You've failed me enough for one lifetime."

Lilah then arrived, looking at what was going on, and raised her gun at Roger. "Drop the gun, Wesley Sr."

"Or what?" Roger asked as she fired but he barely avoided before shooting, as Lilah was hit and went down.

Immediately, Wesley emptied the clip into Roger, firing 9 times, as Roger fell to the ground, a helicopter nearby departing.

Wesley walked to his father's body, staring, upset, then walked to Lilah, who'd been hit on the shoulder.

"You all right?" He asked.

"Yeah", Lilah nodded, before saying with genuine sympathy. "I'm sorry."

Wesley stumbled away, dropping his gun and throwing up as Angel and Lilah both watched sadly.

When Wesley stood, he heard the buzzing of electronics behind him. He turned to look and saw his father's body fade into the body of a cyborg, the glamor gone as it shimmered with electricity. Wesley stared at it in disbelief.

Wesley walked into Angel's office to find him sitting on the couch, holding his belly.

"How are you doing?"

"Well, you know that worst part about losing your free will?"

"Having no control over your body?"

"Well, there's that and... you get really nauseous."

Wesley sat beside Angel. "The effect should wear off before too long."

"Matt said the glamor was so strong it prevented him from detecting it's a cyborg. Any idea where these things came from? What they were trying to do with me?" Wesley shook his head. "Great. Like we don't have enough to worry about. Now the good guys may be after us, too."

Wesley pointed out. "We have to assume we crossed some powerful forces when we took over this company."

"They're all trying to bring us down. The perception is that we're weak."

Wesley told him. "No. The perception is I'm weak. That's why they went for me."

Angel disagreed. "They're wrong. You do what you have to do to protect the people around you. To do what you know is right, regardless of the cost. You know, I never really understood that. You're the guy who makes all the hard decisions, even if you have to make 'em alone."

Wesley sighed in self-loathing. "Right now I feel like the guy who shot his own father."

"Well, it was just a robot with a fancy glamour."

"That thing knew everything about me."

"You know, if they had access to the Watchers Council's old files, they'd have your background information, character assessments…."

"Psychological profiles. Everything they'd need."

"Well, like I said... don't beat yourself up. Oh... you know... I killed my actual dad. It was one of the first things I did when I became a Vampire."

Wesley stared in disgust. "I hardly see how that's the same situation."

Angel nodded. "Yeah. I didn't really think that one through. You should get some rest."

"So should you."

Cordelia arrived with Connor and said to him. "Say goodnight to Uncle Wesley."

Connor made a sound as Wesley smiled and kissed his forehead before walking out to find Spike sitting on the couch, waiting to talk to him.

He stood up. "Heard what happened up top, offing your dad and all. Don't know if you know this, but, uh... I killed my mum. Actually, I'd already killed her, and then she tried to shag me, so I had to—"

Wesley held up his hand in a 'stop' motion. "Thank you. I'm...very comforted. Right."

He walked to his office where Matt, Faith and Fred were.

"You know, whatever the old evil C3P0 said, I couldn't think of a better Watcher", Faith told Wesley with an assuring smile as he smiled back.

"Yes, that thing knew the old you, not the real you, the man you've become", Matt added.

"You were brave up there", Fred assured him.

"Thank you", Wesley said as they nodded and walked off, and he stood behind his desk, turning the lamp as Lilah arrived, her arm now in a sling.

"If you're here to tell me about how you killed your parents... perhaps it could wait for another time."

"What? No. Mom's still in medical care", Lilah walked to him. "Admit it, you didn't know it was him, part of you. I know, Wes."

Wesley told her. "No. I was sure it was him. You were there. I killed my father."

Lilah told him. "Either way, thanks for getting the tin can who shot me."

Wesley nodded with a smile and said. "And I heard you helped save Connor."

"Nah, just saw the cyborg and shot it, didn't see the munchkin", Lilah said with a shrug, but Wesley knew what had really happened.

They shared a kiss, then smiled at each other before she left.

Wesley sat down, then dialed and held the phone to his ear. "Hello, Mom, it's me. No, everything's fine. I was hoping to speak with Father, actually. Yes, all right. Hello, father, how are—Oh, I didn't realize it was so early there. I've had a bit of a—Of course we have clocks in Los Angeles. Listen, I wanted to—Nothing's wrong. I just... wanted to call... and...see how you were."

The end, thanks a lot to Brainstorm Sorcerer for his help here once more, like always.

In the actual show, Connor had been erased from everyone's memories so Wesley was basically his early Season 3 self, which is why I feel seeing his father again could regress him back to his bumbling self.

But the Wesley from late Season 3 and all of Season 4 and then from 5x16 onwards? Good luck dealing with that "Roger".

Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
