This idea came to me during a conversation with LycoX so thank you to them, and hope all enjoy it.

Justine had just sliced Wesley's throat and had now put Connor on the passenger side of Wesley's car. She was about to get onto the driver's side when she heard a familiar voice call out to her. "Hey."

Justine turned around and was surprised to see who it was. "You, what are you doing here?"

"Holtz sent me to see if the task went well or not, and to help you out if anything went wrong", the other woman replied to Justine.

"Right", Justine nodded as she turned back to the car. "Well, it all went well so-"

BANG!

Justine's body hit the ground with a thud, a bullet in the back of her head as she lay in a pool of blood, while Connor started crying due to the loud sound.

The woman picked him up and cooed at him while rocking him. "Don't cry, nothing will happen to you, I promise."

She then looked at Wesley with his throat wound and keeping Connor back, walked up to him and gently picked him up. He was barely conscious and looked like he'd fall over anytime, but she led him to the car.

"You really messed up, buddy, you know? I say this as someone who has also messed up", the woman told Wesley as she put him in the back of his car, having him lie down, not speaking a word.

She then got onto the driver's seat and closing the door, drove off. "First hospital, then Hyperion."

An hour later, Hyperion Hotel

Angel had just returned, with Lorne, Fred and Gunn watching him anxiously.

"The Wolfram & Hart Ops team found Holtz", Angel revealed.

"And?" Gunn asked.

"He was lying in a pool of blood, a bullet in the back of his head", Angel added, shocking them all.

"Someone killed him?" Fred asked. "But why?"

Lorne added. "Bigger question is who?"

"I did."

They all turned around and Angel's and Gunn's eyes widened in surprise as they recognized the woman, but all were overjoyed (limited in Angel's case on his own part due to his curse) on seeing just who she had in her arms.

"Here", she held out baby Connor as Angel walked to him happily, lifting him with a smile.

"Hey buddy, daddy missed you, daddy thought something bad was gonna happen to you, but the nice lady saved you", Angel kissed his son's forehead and got a happy squeal in return as Lorne, Fred and Gunn smiled too.

Angel then turned to the woman and thanked her from the bottom of his heart.

"Thanks Kate."

"I owed you one", Kate Lockley replied with a smile of her own.

Gunn then asked. "But how did you know of all this?"

"Holtz was recruiting people who lost their loved ones to Vampires, I lost my dad too", Kate reminded as Angel looked away but Kate tapped his shoulder and gave him a reassuring look, assuring him that she didn't blame him anymore.

"Anyway, after what you did for me, no way in hell would I turn against you, but the way he was talking, I knew there was something about it, so I joined him just to see what it was, and it was vengeance against you", Kate explained what she had done. "So I decided to take them down from the inside, was just waiting for the right moment. I managed to find about Holtz's and Justine's plan to take away the baby, so I followed Holtz to his rendezvous spot and killed him, then I went to Wesley's house. Was a second too late as Justine sliced Wesley's throat-"

Their eyes widened in horror before Kate added. "He's alive, I got him to the hospital, don't think he'll be able to talk for a while though."

They sighed in relief as Kate finished. "But I still killed her and got your son back, how did you have one by the way?"

"Long story, miracle stuff", Angel shrugged as she chuckled.

"I get that", Kate smiled.

"Well, you did us a great favor by returning little nipper here", Lorne told Kate.

"Yeah, that guy would probably just abuse him to get back at Angel", Fred said, stroking Connor's face.

"As for Wesley, I know it'd be hard to get past what he did, but your boy is safe, so I imagine it'd be a bit easier to forgive him now, just don't be mad at him forever, it'll be bad for you", Kate spoke from experience.

"I get you", Angel said as he and Kate shared a hug and a genuinely friendly smile.

She then walked off, waving. "I'll be seeing you guys."

"Us too", Angel assured, deciding to stay in touch from now on.

Kate had let her own hatred almost take over her, and now she'd seen it happen to Holtz too. But she wouldn't let it happen to her.

Not again.

Got this idea because I learnt they originally planned to have Kate as Holtz's apprentice but Elisabeth Röhm was unavailable due to having joined 'Law and Order' and so they created Justine instead.

Tbh if Holtz approached Kate anytime from 'The Prodigal' to 'Reprise' she'd be easily convinced to join his side but post-Epiphany I really don't think she'd join him, other than to do something like this.
