Chapter 8- The Shaman and the Monk

Runeterra, Guardian's Sea

On the open waters, a small boat sailed along, the sails blowing slightly, but there wasn't a lot of wind. Two people were on board.

The first was an Asian looking man who was bald and shirtless. Tattoos engraved his chest, and he had a pencil thin beard.

Next to him was a heavily built man wearing a bear's fur as a cloak. A huge black beard covered most of his face and he had a hardened look in his eyes.

"Udyr, is that someone floating in the water, or is it just me?" the Asian man asked carefully.

The man called Udyr turned and looked at the water. A blonde haired woman wearing strange clothes was floating in the water.

Udyr's eyes widened as he sensed the woman's aura. She was still alive.

"She's still alive!" he said, reaching into the sea and grabbing the woman, laying her on the raft.

"She is?" the Asian man asked in concern, kneeling next to her.

Udyr's hands glowed as he muttered something in an unknown language. He pressed his hands to either side of the woman's head.

Suddenly, the woman's eyes opened and she sputtered, spewing salt water.

"Take it easy." The Asian man advised.

The woman relaxed slightly, but Udyr could tell she was still tense.

"W-where am I?" she asked, teeth chattering together.

"You were almost dead. We pulled you out of the water just in time." The bearded man revealed.

"Thank you," The woman muttered. "I am Sara Lance."

Udyr shared a look with the Asian man and nodded. He had sensed Sara's aura, and she didn't seem to be a threat. She had a warrior's spirit.

"I am Udyr. This is my friend, Lee Sin." He said, gesturing to the Asian man.

"It's a very long story. Thank you for saving me." Sara said gratefully.

"You must be freezing. Here." Lee Sin said, taking a cloak and wrapping it around Sara as she curled into herself, hugging her knees tight.

Sara looked around. The last thing she remembered was that wave washing her off the ship that she was on with Xin Zhao, but she had no idea what happened to him. Then she had been rescued by Udyr and Lee Sin.

"Xin Zhao! Where are my friends?! Did they survive?" Sara asked, lurching to her feet.

"There was no one else. We just found you." Udyr said, giving her an apologetic look.

Sara sunk back, tears making her eyes blur at the loss of her friend.

"I sensed her aura using my Spiritual magic," Udyr said. "She doesn't have any negative intentions, and she is no Noxian."

"Uh guys, don't mean to bother you, but where are you heading?" Sara called out.

"We are on our way to Ionia." Lee Sin replied.

"Huh, that's funny. So am I." Sara chuckled lightly, her teeth chattering from the cold.

"Why were you heading to Ionia? You realize there's a war happening there." Udyr frowned.

"There's a war?" Sara asked. She hadn't heard of a war in Ionia.

Lee Sin and Udyr traded confused looks.

"What do you mean? You haven't heard of Noxus attacking my homeland?" Lee Sin asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No, I'm not from these parts. I am on my own quest." Sara said.

Udyr placed a finger on his chin in thought. "Perhaps there is a way we could help each other."

Lee Sin shot him a strange look, but Udyr shrugged it off and looked at Sara.

"Lee Sin and I are going to Ionia to aid in the war. I can get you to the Island where you may continue on your quest." Udyr said.

Sara looked up at him with hopeful eyes. This was going right after all.

Lee Sin smirked at her and said. "Even now, your spirit burns. How admirable."

"I might fail, but I'm not gonna give up." Sara said firmly.

Lee Sin and Sara shared a look and nodded, an understanding passing between them.

Later

Sara rubbed her arms as she felt slightly warmer than before. Looking up, she marvelled at the glowing stars in the sky. There were no constellations that she knew of.

"The stars guide our path. There are those who are guided by the Lonely Star." Lee Sin spoke from next to her.

"Which one is that?" Sara asked.

Lee Sin pointed to the far left, where only a single star glowed in the night sky, away from the others.

"It is said that those who are lost in their paths should follow the Lonely Star, as it shall guide them."

Sara looked up at the star, a sad look on her face.

"I do hope I get back to my world." She muttered, but Lee Sin heard her.

"Your world?" he asked in confusion.

Sara took a deep breath and said. "I am from another world. I was stranded in Demacia and they were helping me find this relic so I could get home."

Lee Sin looked both shocked and thoughtful at the same time. In Ionia, there were myths and legends of other worlds. After all, the fabled Spirit Realm was another world.

"What is it like in your world?" Udyr asked, having heard what she said.

"It's…different. A lot more advanced." Sara briefly said.

"Is this what the people in your world wear?" Lee Sin asked, gesturing to Sara's clothes.

"Yeah, it is." She nodded.

"Mmmm." Udyr said, stroking his beard thoughtfully and looking up at the sky.

"Where are we?" Sara asked, looking around at the open sea.

"We are at the edge of the Guardian's Sea," Udyr said. "In a few weeks, we will be at the shores of Ionia."

"A few weeks?" Sara asked before groaning. "Right, forgot it's a fantasy world. Could honestly use a plane right now."

"I'm sorry, a what?" Lee Sin asked.

"Machines that can fly through the air. It is how we are able to traverse long distances." Sara explained.

"Haven't seen anything like that in all my years." Udyr said. Sara looked at him and saw his black beard was beginning to grey a little. He looked like he was approaching 50 soon.

Sara continued looking out at the sky.

Later

As Sara slept on the boat, her mind drifted into a strange dream.

Sara faced Black Mist rolling towards her.

"VIEGO!" she roared. "Face me in combat!"

The Mist sped towards her as she turned to see Lucian and a barbarian in armor and an eyepatch charge with her.

Sara woke up, thinking about a brown skinned woman with a radiant smile, and a red-haired woman in armor.

Sivir, Leona and Yasuo. The only ones you'll ever love.

Sara narrowed her eyes, wondering what the heck was happening.

Sara sat at the edge of the boat as it sailed across the open waters. It had been almost a week since she had been rescued.

The topsail of the boat blew in the wind as the boat moved across the water. A backsail was also there, all keeping the boat steady. The boat only had two sails.

There had been violent winds, but for some reason they hadn't been sunk yet.

Udyr was using magic to navigate the ocean and guide them towards Ionia.

Speaking of which, Udyr was meditating, his eyes narrowed.

Sara sighed and looked out over the water. Almost a week to go and she was slowly running out of faith and strength.

"What is on your mind, Sara?" Lee Sin asked as he sat next to her.

"I don't know if I can get back to my world. I don't even know where I am going." Sara sighed.

"I will help you for as long as I can," Lee Sin said. "We can only hope that Bard takes the wheel at the end of the day."

Sara looked at him. This was the second time she had heard the name Bard. Clearly he was some type of God.

"I can't tell where the journey will end. But I know where to start." Sara said.

"You are right, my friend. May your soul find peace." Lee Sin nodded at her and she smiled.

"You may try to carry the weight of the world, but you only have two shoulders." Udyr spoke up, making them both look at him.

"Hope I get the chance to travel Runeterra. But I don't have any plans," Sara shrugged. "Wish that I could stay forever this young."

"Life is a game made for everyone, and peace is the prize." Lee Sin said, and Sara stared at him, as Xin Zhao had said the same thing.

"Because Bard lives, I can face tomorrow. And life is truly worth living." He muttered.

"Guided by the Lonely Star. Shadows long before you lie beneath the ever-bending sky." Udyr said to her.

"Maybe you're right," Sara sighed. "This whole thing seems impossible."

"We can prevail, but only as long as we believe we can achieve anything, including the impossible." Lee Sin said.

"How are we still sailing?" Sara asked. "Don't we need to make sure the sails are still flying?"

"I have prayed to the Wind Goddess known as Janna. She is guiding us through these treacherous waters." Udyr said.

"Huh, makes sense." Sara shrugged. She had fixed the sails earlier, and then they were fine.

"What will you do in Ionia?" Sara asked.

"We will aid in the war against the Noxians. I am looking forward to unleashing the power of the Dragon spirit." Lee Sin smirked.

"Come you lass and join us a warrior. Courage up and draw your weapon. It is time to meet with the foe." Udyr said to her.

"Once I find the item I am looking for, I will help you. I've encountered Noxians before and they ain't exactly the friendliest people I've ever met." Sara shrugged.

"Who was the Demacian who helped you?" Lee Sin asked.

"His name is Xin Zhao. He is from Ionia." Sara said.

Lee Sin narrowed his eyes and said. "I have heard of him. He was known as Viscero and he fought in the Noxian arenas."

Sara started. She hadn't heard about that. No wonder he hated Noxians with a passion.

"Huh." She commented.

"When we reach Ionia, the spirits shall guide us. We will stand our ground and won't back down." Udyr started.

"Or we die trying." Sara finished, and silence settled over the trio.

If she was going to die, then she would protect this world.

"Where are you from, Udyr?" Sara asked him.

"I am from the barren, frozen wasteland in the far North known as the Freljord." Udyr said gruffly.

"Huh, what's it like?" Sara continued.

"Cold," Udyr said sarcastically. "It is so cold in fact, that steel instantly shatters on contact with the cold air."

"Holy shit." Sara said with wide eyes. That must be really cold for that to happen.

"I channel the power of the primal Gods themselves to do battle." Udyr said.

"What are the primal Gods?" Sara asked.

"There are many. Anivia, Ornn, the Iron Boar, the Seal Sister, and the greatest Demigod- the Volibear." Udyr recounted.

"Volibear? Seriously? That's an odd name." Sara muttered.

"Volibear is not a joke," Udyr warned. "He is the most powerful Freljordian deity. They call him The Thousand Pierced Bear."

"So you believe in Gods." Sara mused.

"He was around when the world was still young," Udyr said. "He shaped the Vorrijard itself."

"The what?" Sara asked.

"Vorrijard is the ancient word for Freljord before it became populated by different tribes." Udyr said.

"Who are the tribes?" Sara asked.

"The Avarosans, the Winter's Claw and the Frostguard. I myself am part of the Winter's Claw." Udyr said.

"Well don't you learn new things every day?" Sara commented, making Lee Sin chuckle slightly.

"I myself have trained in Ionia's ancient martial arts." Lee Sin said.

"No kidding, I thought you were a monk." Sara commented.

"You are not wrong there." He shrugged.

"It will be another few days until we reach the coast." Udyr said.

"How long have you been sailing out here?" Sara asked.

"For almost 3 months, Udyr and I are travelling there." Lee Sin said.

"Christ, that's a long time." Sara muttered.

She reached behind her and untied her ponytail, letting her wavy blonde hair fall to one side.

"You have the bluest eyes I've ever seen." Udyr said, looking at her strikingly blue eyes.

"Thanks." Sara blushed slightly.

"The Lord has promised good to me for as long as life endures." Lee Sin muttered, clasping his hands in front of him.

"I hope so too, brother. Me too." Sara patted his shoulder. Her face fell, as she remembered her friends and family on Earth.

"They must be so worried about me." Sara murmured.

"You will get home, I promise you." Lee Sin assured.

"For your aid in defeating the Noxian scoundrels, I will aid you in locating this relic." Udyr added.

"That might be a bit difficult though," Lee Sin said thoughtfully. "There are many relics scattered throughout Ionia."

"Even better." Sara said sarcastically.

"This world shall soon dissolve like snow. The sun forbear to shine. But until then, we shall win and triumph." Udyr said.

"We will indeed." Sara agreed.

"Our souls must be set free to fly." Lee Sin said.

"Hopefully it will." Sara muttered.

"Above all shadows lies the Sun, and stars forever dwell. If I were you Sara, I would not say the day is done, nor bid the stars farewell." Udyr said ominously, looking at her.

Sara looked at him curiously. Maybe she could do this. No, she would do this.

"Maybe the Justice League could appear to bring you back." Lee Sin suggested.

During the boat trip, Sara had provided details of the Justice League to both Lee Sin and Udyr, and needless to say both were shocked.

"Hopefully. If Superman does appear, the Noxians wouldn't see it coming." Sara chuckled.

"If what you have told me is true, then no, they wouldn't." Lee Sin agreed.

"It's going to be a while before we reach Ionia though." Sara said.

"We will get there though." Udyr nodded.

Unseen to all three, a black raven flew overhead. With a smirk, the raven flew off, with the sea-bird it needed.

And this chapter is done too.

So Sara was rescued by two new champions and is now on her way to Ionia.

The first champion is Lee Sin aka The Blind Monk.

And the second is Udyr aka The Spirit Walker.

Udyr's lore is an absolutely essential read and lore wise, he is my 6th faviroute champion overall. His story is absolutely amazing.

Lee Sin's lore is also good, but Riot Games aren't exactly doing much with him right now. But he's still awesome.

As you can see in this chapter, Lee Sin isn't blind, so he hasn't become the League of Legends version of Daredevil yet.

For power levels, Lee Sin is really high, because he draws power from the Spirit Realm itself.

As for Udyr, he is even higher because as stated in this chapter, he channels the power of primal Gods, so he is really powerful.

Hope all the interactions were enjoyed. As well as Sara mocking Volibear, because as much as I love the character, that is the weirdest name I've ever heard.

At least Ornn is badass though. Anivia is more like 'meh.'

Though none of the Freljordian Demigods should be messed with in a head on fight, unless you want to die.

And of course we had teasers for some future stuff, mainly Sara's relationships.

Next chapter will progress the plot further, so hope all are excited.

Hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
