She appeared in the clearing and spotted the jeep off to the side where it wouldn't get hit with fly balls, tucked behind some trees. She walked towards a fully clothed Emmett as Alice and Jasper were throwing warmup pitches back and forth. She frowned as she glanced around, not seeing her mate anywhere, causing a slight panic to begin filling her chest.
"Em, where's Bella?" She stopped next to him.
He chuckled as he pointed further out into the clearing, near the tree line. Bella stood with Leah and Seth as they spoke quietly, the hard look on Bella's face making her worry even more. She took a step towards her mate, but Esme and Carlisle appeared, papers in hand. She smiled at them as they watched Bella.
She turned back to Bella and the girl's head snapped around to look directly at her, a frown on her face. Bella shook her head at Leah as she began to walk towards her. She opened her arms as Bella approached her and Bella wrapped her arms around her waist.
"How's Edward?" Bella asked with a smirk.
Emmett and Jasper burst into laughter as she grinned, "He's a glorious unicorn, I'll give you that."
Bella smiled widely at her before a growl interrupted them. Everyone turned to face Edward as he stood with his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes narrowed at Bella, "Paybacks a bitch Bella. Remember that."
Bella laughed, "Your hair is still shimmering!"
Everyone began to laugh as Edward growled angrily and Emmett quickly blurred to him, "Ah come on babe. It was funny." The large vampire was barely able to contain his laughter.
"You were in on it, Emmett!" Edward shouted, a few pieces of glitter dislodging from his hair in his sudden head shake.
No one could contain their laughter and Rosalie couldn't stop from holding her mate just a little tighter. She and Edward had come to a truce over Bella, a silent one but a truce nonetheless, but this was still too hilarious for her. She held her mate as she smiled down at the girl.
"Bella, we have something we want to ask you." She spoke hesitantly but she was determined to do this. Bella frowned up at her and she could feel her mates body tense in her arms. Bella's worry flowed to her through the mate bond, and she quickly rushed to reassure her young mate, "It's nothing bad but I hope you'll accept it and be oaky with it."
Bella backed away from her with a frown, "What?"
Esme and Carlisle stepped forward and Esme smiled reassuringly at Bella, "Bella we would like to know if we could adopt you."
Bella's eyes widened and Rosalie felt the burst of love through the mate bond. She could feel the sudden emotions that were shifting in Bella as the girl's eyes teared slightly. She moved to her mate and wrapped her arms around Bella's waist, "You don't have to give an answer right now."
Bella shook her head before wiping at her face, "Yes! The answer is yes."
She smiled as Bella ran to Esme's open arms. She could feel the happiness and excitement that Bella was feeling, the mate bond strengthening even more. She caught Carlisle's smile as he watched his wife and new daughter. Bella didn't look like she was going to let go of Esme anytime soon, but she didn't feel any discomfort in it. She knew Bella viewed Esme as a mother and she was glad that her mate had what she had always wanted, a family.
When Bella finally pulled back Carlisle stepped forward, "We have the papers here for you to sign and we can email them to Jasper's attorney."
Bella frowned and Rosalie felt a hint of sadness through the mate bond, "What about Charlie?"
Jasper was the one to answer, "He signed away his parental rights last night."
Bella frowned at Jasper, but Rosalie could feel her gratefulness, something that Jasper felt soon after, "Thank you Jasper."
Jasper smirked at her, "Don't thank me. Leah can be very convincing when she's pissed."
Bella laughed as Leah wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "I promised I'd keep you happy Bells."
Bella nodded before turning back to Carlisle, "What do we have to do?"
Ten minutes later Jasper was on the phone with his attorney and Rosalie was teasing Bella as they prepared to start the game. She had never seen Bella so happy before, even during the months that she had tried to ignore the girl. She still felt guilty about it, but every time Bella smiled at her it made everything disappear and happiness replace it.
Emmett's voice rang out across the field, "Let's do this."
Carlisle stepped up to the plate as Esme took Bella's hand, "You can help me keep these guys in line."
Emmett whooped before he shouted for Bella to hear, "She thinks we cheat."
Edward chuckled, "You did five years ago."
Alice's eyes glazed over for a moment before she pulled her hat further down on her head, "It's time."
A loud boom of thunder echoed above them as if to signal the start of the game and Rosalie couldn't help but watch Bella's face as Alice threw the ball at Carlisle. The bat connected perfectly, and Bella's eyes widened as the ball disappeared over the tops of the trees in the distance, Edward grinning for a moment before sprinting into the forest.
Carlisle took off in a blur around the bases as Bella asked Esme, "That's got to be a homerun, right?"
Esme stood beside the girl with a grin, "Edward's very fast."
A split-second later Edward reappeared, and the ball came flying right at home plate. Esme held her hands up in time to catch the ball a split second after Carlisle had touched the base, Bella saying, "Safe."
Carlisle grinned as he placed a kiss on Bella's cheek before smirking out at the boys, "One, noting."
Edward laughed, "Yeah because you are her father now."
Rosalie grinned as she watched the blush rush up Bella's neck to her face, making the girl look down shyly. She blurred to her mate and wrapped her arms around Bella's waist from behind, "It was a fair call, Edward."
Emmett laughed before making a whip noise. She glared at him as she snatched the bat from Carlisle, "You'll pay for that."
Edward leaned against a tree with his arms crossed over his chest and a smirk on his face, "You know better than to tease my Monkey Man."
She scoffed as she took her place at the plate, feeling Bella's eyes on her. She couldn't deny it was slightly distracting to have her mate watching her so intently, but it also made her beast want to show off to their mate. She smirked at Alice as the pixie threw as hard as she could. She lined it up perfectly and as the bat connected to the ball, the bat snapped in half. She took off as Emmett ran for it, launching up into a tree, scurrying up it with his nails, only to launch off it with the ball in hand before throwing it with his extra strength back towards Esme.
She slid into home plate as Esme caught the ball and Bella grimaced at her, "Out."
Emmett and Edward burst into laughter as she stood, narrowing her eyes at Bella. Bella swallowed thickly and backed away from her, "Hale I was only calling it fair."
She let out a low playful growl and grinned evilly as Bella shivered. She continued to stalk her mate as Bella's eyes widened and the girl turned to run. She blurred to her mate and wrapped her arms around Bella's waist from behind, lifting the girl off her feet and spinning her in a circle. Bella's laughter rang out through the clearing as she ghosted her fingers across her mate's abdomen, tickling her.
Bella gasped for air, "I give! Hale, I surrender."
She pulled Bella tight against her chest as she turned them back towards their family, whispering in her mate's ear huskily, "You bet your ass you will." Bella shivered against her again and she kissed the girl's soft neck.
When she finally looked back up at their family all she could see was smiling faces as they watched them happily. She rolled her eyes at them before saying, "We have a game going."
Everyone laughed before play resumed. For three hours they kept the game going, everyone having too much fun to call it quits. Alice was positive the storm was going to keep going all day, so they didn't let it stop them. Seth chose Alice and Jasper's team while Leah was with Rosalie and Carlisle, and she had to admit they were good.
As night began to fall Alice suddenly froze her eyes glazing over. Edward's head snapped up and a growl ripped from his lips as he blurred towards them, Emmett quick on his heels.
Rosalie felt her body go numb as Alice's eye's darted to Bella, "I didn't see them. I was distracted."
She blurred to her mate as the family quickly surrounded their human and Leah frowned, "What's up Alice?"
"Nomads. They heard the sounds of laughter and came to investigate." Alice spoke quickly.
Edward frowned, "They'll be here any second and we won't be able to get Bella away without them becoming suspicious."
Carlisle shifted from fun to coven leader instantly, "Then we face them. Bella, stay with Rosalie and Esme."
Bella nodded and Rosalie quickly took Bella's hand, "Stay right behind me." Bella nodded, fear shinning in her eyes for a moment.
Esme took up position next to her but right behind Carlisle as the rest of them took up defensive positions around them, with Leah and Seth in the back. She couldn't help but grip Bella's hand tighter than necessary as the danger neared her very human mate. Her instincts were going crazy, needing to get Bella out of there while also not drawing attention to her mate. A moment later the nomads appeared across the clearing, moving towards them hesitantly.
Once they were close enough the nomads stopped and a dark toned man with dreadlocks smiled politely, "We heard your game and decided to see if you needed more players."
Carlisle smiled, "A few of us were just leaving. You can take their place."
The man's slight French accent was soft as he said, "I'm Laurent and these are my coven mates, Victoria and James."
Rosalie didn't like the way the man with dirty blonde hair, James, was watching her. Her instincts heightened as his eyes darted to Bella. She frowned when she noticed that her mate was staring at the woman with the nomads, her mate's eyes locked on the redhead's.
The redhead, Victoria, cocked her head at Bella and Rosalie felt her beast rising up to claim her mate in front of the newcomers. Alice smiled as she threw the ball at the blonde man, "Let's see what you got."
The redhead snatched the ball out of the air without breaking eye contact with Bella, "I'm the one with the wicked curveball."
Jasper smirked, "Oh we'll see about that."
Rosalie turned to move Bella away from the nomads, but the girl was still eye locked with the redhead. Victoria frowned at Bella as a soft breeze fluttered around them and James hissed as he spun back towards them, "You brought a snack."
Rosalie instantly snarled at him as she crouched protectively in front of her mate, keeping the girl tight against her back as she growled at James. She would kill him if he even twitched in Bella's direction and she knew Edward heard her as he slipped up beside her, in total agreement.
Laurent frowned, "Everyone take it easy."
Victoria dropped the baseball as her eyes widened, "Bella?"
Rosalie twitched slightly. How the hell did this nomad know her mate?
Bella's voice was just above a whisper, "Victoria?"
James suddenly stood straight, "Wait this is Bella? The girl that disappeared?"
Victoria nodded her eyes glued to Bella, "Bella where the hell have you been? Have you been here this whole time?"
Bella moved before Rosalie could blink and the girl was suddenly in the redhead's arms, "I'm so sorry. They brought me here as soon as Phil escaped. They said I had to live with Charlie."
Victoria held Bella at arm's length, her red eyes searching the girl's body, "Are you hurt? Has everything healed? Did Charlie hurt you?"
Rosalie stood with a growl, "Bella?"
Bella spun to face her, as James glared at her, "I know Victoria." Bella turned back to the redhead with smile, "She saved my life."
Rosalie frowned as she watched Victoria smile at her mate, "Always will my Angel. You saved mine too ya know."
James frowned, "Still doesn't explain how you ended up with a coven of vampires that haven't killed you yet."
Victoria hissed at James, "Knock it off." The woman turned back to Bella, "We have a lot to talk about."
Rosalie frowned as Bella chuckled, "Yeah we do. You won't believe what's happened in the last few months."
Rosalie took a step forward, but James and Laurent crouched with warning growls, moving to keep her from getting to her mate. She lowered with a deadly growl as Bella turned back to the commotion, "This is Rosalie Hale, my mate."
James and Laurent instantly straightened, and Laurent nodded to her, "Our apologies."
James snorted, "SO that's how you've survived."
Bella slapped the back of James's head, hissing in pain before saying, "I'm not that bad James."
Victoria chuckled, "You've tripped over air my dear."
Bella glared at Victoria, "I could air some of your mishaps."
Rosalie snarled, "Enough. Bella what the hell is going on?"
Bella turned back to her and hurried towards her, "I'm sorry Hale."
Rosalie wrapped her arms around her mate's waist and nuzzled her neck, needing to get the redhead's scent off her mate.
Carlisle stepped up, "Why don't we all head back to the house, and we can discuss things."
She pulled back from her mate as Bella kissed her cheek before turning to the redhead, "Victoria, I'd like you to meet Leah and Seth."
Victoria froze as she stared at Leah and Bella frowned, "V you, okay?"
Leah leaned to Bella, "I think I may be her mate Bells."
Bella burst into laughter, earning a few confused looks. Rosalie could feel her mate's happiness and excitement. She couldn't help but tighten her hold on her mate again, a question on her mind.
Bella smirked up at her, "Ten vampires, two wolf shifters, and a human. What could possibly go wrong?"
She grimaced at her mate as her mind swirled with the possibilities. Her mate was going to be the death of her one day, of that, she was positive.
