Jane's eyes were glued to her wife as she ran forward, her mind screaming in pain at the thought that Maura had just been shot. She couldn't hear anything around her, as if she was underwater. Voices were quiet and garbled; she couldn't make sense of them. Her only focus was the woman on the ground, two SWAT members on either side of the sitting woman, but she couldn't make out what they were saying.

She circled around to the front of her wife, "Maura?"

Maura shook her head before looking up at her, hazel eyes finding hers instantly, "I'm fine Jane."

Jane wrapped her arms around her wife, pulling the blonde tight against her body, needing to feel her. Her hands ran over Maura's body, searching for injury, searching for blood. She couldn't speak as the tears blurred her vision, the SWAT men moving away to give them some space. She pulled Maura up to her feet, feeling her Doctor's shaking tense body struggling to stand.

Voices began to surround her again as the presence of Maura's arms around Jane broke through that final barrier. Maura was unharmed and in her arms. Her wife was in her arms and safe, which was more overwhelming than she ever thought it could be. Relief flooded her body, exhaustion seeping into the gaps that the relief didn't fill.

Maura pulled back slightly, one hand sliding gently across her face, "I'm alright Jane. My legs just gave out."

Jane nodded, knowing it and believing it were two different things, especially in the heat of the moment. She couldn't let go of the woman even after she helped Maura to her feet. She could see the woman's legs trembling slightly, the muscles tired from having been tensed. She guided her wife towards Frankie as he leaned against a wall, face pale and sweaty.

"Maura," Frankie pushed himself off the wall and wrapped the woman in a tight embrace.

Maura smiled as she patted his back before pulling back to ask, "It's alright Frankie. What happened?"

Frankie frowned at her, "It was not only a motion sensor but on a pressure switch. They disarmed the motion sensor from the hallway, but it set off the pressure switch."

"Are they…?" Jane asked hesitantly.

Frankie shook his head, "A few cuts and bruises but the floor was clear, and the conference room it was located in was separated from the office space."

Maura felt instant relief at the knowledge that no one was harmed. She always hated when people got hurt but after being what she had been through over the years, she knew it was apart of the job, especially for a SWAT team.

The next hour she answered every question that was asked of her and by the time she was finally reunited with Jane, she remembered Dean, "Where's Dean?"

Jane's face paled slightly, and her eyes grew distant before she told Maura everything. She still couldn't believe what the man had done, but she also knew that if there was an easy way out, he was going to take. She had heard everything that Maura and Hoyt had said, Frankie having given the same statement nearby. Once they were finally released, she guided Maura to their car that was still parked near the courthouse.

The ride was silent, both women lost in their own thoughts until Jane parked in the driveway. Maura stepped out of the car, taking a moment to lean against the vehicle to get her legs strong enough to walk. She could feel Jane's eyes on her as she made her way slowly around the front of the car. She smiled softly at Jane, seeing the worry in her wife's eyes.

A warmth spread through Maura's body as they stared at one another, love and devotion shimmering in Jane's dark eyes, that at times she didn't think she deserved. Jane opened her mouth to speak but the front door opened, and Luca hurried down the stairs, his little legs going as fast as they could.

"Mommy!"

The boy jumped towards Maura, and she caught him instantly, hugging him as tight as she could to her chest without hurting him. The knowledge that she had been literally in the crosshairs of a killer just an hour before hadn't left her mind, but instead had made her realize just how much she loved her family. She carried Luca towards the house, Jane's warm hand on her lower back.

Paddy stood just inside the door, his hard green eyes on her intensely, roaming her entire body to check for injury. She sat Luca on his feet and allowed her father to pull her into a tight hug, "I should have been there."

She shook her head, "Not until you're cleared. You know I can't lose you." Paddy smiled as he released her, turning to O'Brady.

Maura smiled at O'Brady and allowed the woman to pull her tight into her arms, "We'll get him Maura."

Maura relaxed into Emily's embrace, all her emotions over the last few hours finally catching up to her. She didn't want to break down in front of everyone, Emily and Paddy had seen it before, as had Jane. Luca however was very present in the room, and she couldn't let her walls down in front of their young son. She wasn't going to let Hoyt or Dean break her and that meant keeping Luca unaware of her emotions.

Jane's body tensed as she watched Maura and O'Brady. She had always been a jealous person when it came to Maura but now, after what they had been through that day alone, she couldn't stand to see her wife in the arms of anyone else, even friends. It wasn't that she didn't trust Maura, she just didn't trust anyone else.

As if reading Jane's mind Maura stepped away from Emily, "I'm going to go lay down for a while."

Angela nodded, kissing her cheek, "Vince and I will take Luca while you and Jane get some rest. Call if you need anything."

Maura nodded and kissed Luca's cheek before turning to her father, "I'll call you tomorrow. Don't do anything stupid."

Paddy smirked at her, "You know me too well." Maura rolled her eyes before kissing his cheek and heading up stairs.

Jane glanced at O'Brady before turning to her mother, "Will you lock up?"

"Of course, dear," Angela smiled tiredly at her daughter.

Jane took the stairs two at a time and slipped into their bedroom, finding Maura standing at the window, "Maur?"

"It doesn't make any sense. Why would Gabriel choose Hoyt? He had to have known that Hoyt would kill you eventually." Maura frowned as she stared into the back yard.

Her mind had too much time to think as she had stood in that alley, and she kept coming back to the same questions. Why would Dean, who was supposedly so in love with Jane, choose to team up with the man that wanted to kill Jane? Was Dean so desperate to get to Jane that he was wiling to risk the brunette's life?

Jane slid her blazer off and tossed it in the hamper near their bathroom, "Do we really need to talk about this right now?"

Maura scoffed, "Right I forgot, Jane Rizzoli runs from her emotions."

"I'm not running anywhere Maura. I'm just too tired to try to figure out a psychopath's mindset. Considering the fact, he stepped in front of a delivery truck." Jane snapped angrily.

Maura frowned as her mind surged forward. If he was willing to kill himself then maybe he was willing to lose Jane, or he realized he had already lost her. In which case he lost to Maura, and Jane was going to be collateral. A way for him to get her while also trying to protect Jane in the process. Had he really revealed his connection to Hoyt to warn Jane that the man was still alive? Knowing that he wouldn't be able to protect her.

Jane watched Maura's body tense, her eyes darting back and forth across the back yard, but not really seeing it. She didn't want to fight with her wife, not after what they had just been through, but she also knew that Maura had trouble letting something go. She sat on the edge of the bed and rubbed her face.

Maura turned to Jane, watching the woman rub her tired face, the emotions of the day showing. She moved to Jane, standing in front of her Detective, knowing that Jane needed her more than anything in that moment. She smirked as she let her dress fall to the floor, hearing Jane's quick intake of breath.

Jane's eyes met Maura's and everything outside of that room ceased to exist. Jane's hands ran slowly up Maura's thighs, feeling her wife's muscles twitch at her touch before she gripped Maura's underwear and pulled them slowly down the woman's legs. She stood, locking eyes with Maura's hazel ones, desire swimming brightly in their depths. She watched as Maura slowly unbuttoned her blouse before sliding her fingers inside. She bit her lip to stop the moan that tried to escape as Maura's fingers ran across her shoulders, pushing the shirt off, before guiding it down her arms.

Maura let her fingers ghost across Jane's shoulders as she dropped the shirt at their feet as she moved around her wife. She had always loved the muscles that Jane had, the way the rolled under her skin with every movement. She had spent so many nights drawing patterns lightly after they made love, loving the way Jane would hum in delight, completely relaxed.

Jane's bra dropped to the floor as Maura circled back around, unfastening Jane's slacks and letting them drop. Their eyes met again both finally naked, and Maura couldn't stop herself from glancing down, seeing how much Jane wanted her. She shivered when Jane's fingers touched the bare skin of her hips, the touch tender.

Their bodies met firmly, their lips brushing lightly together as the tension between them broke. Jane captured Maura's lips in a bruising kiss, needing to assure herself that Maura was indeed safe. She hated what their lives had become, the fear, the pain, the unknown moments which caused panic. She needed to keep Maura safe, to keep her happy, to know that above all else they would work.

Maura pulled back slightly as Jane's fingers began to dig into her hips, "Jane, look at me."

Jane opened her eyes, seeing love shining back at her, taking her breath away.

Maura smiled, "I'm here. Let it go. We're safe and we're together."

Jane nodded and wrapped an arm around Maura's waist, lifting the woman easily. Maura wrapped her legs around Jane's waist and sucked in a breath as Jane entered her slowly. Simultaneous moans broke the silence. Jane turned to the bed, climbing onto it and laying Maura on her back before capturing her lips in another kiss. Passion and need wared as they kissed, each needing the comfort and confirmation that they were safe.

Jane began to move her hips slowly, making sure Maura could feel every part of her. She could feel her wife's body trying to pull her deeper, almost desperately trying to keep her inside. The sounds falling from Maura's lips were making it hard for Jane to hold back, to focus on giving as much as she was feeling.

The love she felt for the woman beneath her had only grown in their years apart. She kept falling more and more in love with Maura every day and today had become several compacted into one. She didn't know what she had done in a previous life to deserve the blonde, but she was going to do everything in her power to keep her, to love her.

Maura felt the beginnings of her orgasm, trying to hold herself back. She couldn't, wouldn't get enough of Jane. No amount of time with Jane would be enough. Her body began to shake as Jane leaned up and stared down at her. She could see the love that Jane had for her, the fear that she had lost her once and the terror that she would lose her again.

"I love you, Jane."

"I love you too Maura."

Jane began to pick up speed, thrusting her hips harder and faster. Maura gasped as she wrapped her legs around Jane's waist, locking her ankles on Jane's lower back. The angle caused Jane to press into her at the perfect point and she pulled Jane's body down on top of her. She needed to feel Jane's weight, her body, the slick sweat of her lover as she began to rush towards her peak.

They came together, bodies shaking violently with the explosion of love between them. Neither one could stop as they continued to ride out their pleasure, surprising them both when they each climaxed again together. When they collapsed in exhaustion the sun was gone and the darkness consumed them just as much as their sleep did.
