Chapter 19- New Allies
Runeterra, Ionia, Omikayalan
Ahri gently laid Sara on some soft moss. Sara groaned in exhaustion and looked around to see she was deeper in the forest, with some glowing plants nearby. The light was fading to night.
"Ivern!" Ahri shouted in a panic.
"Ahri, my girl, what appears to be the matter?" an old, scratchy but gentle voice said. Sara groggily sat up and turned to see…a walking tree?
"Did I hit my head on a rock or something?" Sara muttered to herself.
The green tree, about 12 feet tall with a bushy beard made of green leaves looked down at her with a genuine smile.
"And who might you be, young lady?" he asked politely.
"Sara Lance." She replied, murmuring slightly.
"I drained part of her soul. Ivern, can you help her?" Ahri asked, waving her hands slightly.
Ivern looked at her with a smile and said. "Of course, my dear."
He turned his attention to Sara and gently held her hand as green energy poured into Sara's body.
Immediately, she let out a light gasp as she felt herself being rejuvenated.
"Damn." She breathed out. Ivern was looking at her with a pleased look on his face, while Ahri looked down in guilt.
"Yes indeed, the power of the land is strong." Ivern nodded.
Sara looked over at Ahri. "You drained my soul. Why did you choose to save me?"
"I can feel your thoughts, memories and feelings. The pain…" Ahri cringed slightly, and Sara looked down, realizing she must have seen the memory of Varus smashing her leg.
"Yeah. You're a Vastaya, aren't you?" Sara guessed.
Ahri's fox ears perked up. "Yes I am."
"I thought so." Sara said and then lay back on the soft moss, looking up at the sky.
'How the hell am I supposed to complete this quest if I can't even walk properly?' she thought bitterly to herself.
"What were you doing here in this forest?" Ivern questioned with an amused grin on his face.
"She is on a quest to find the Ionian Boots of Lucidity." Ahri said quietly, making Sara look at her sharply.
"Oh my!" Ivern raised an eyebrow, looking at Sara. "You will not find it here, my dear. It is located on the other side of Ionia, deep within a mystical well."
"Of course it is." Sara grumbled in annoyance.
"Your leg is badly damaged." He also noted.
"Thanks for pointing out the obvious!" Sara snapped. Ivern looked at her sadly, while Ahri looked down.
Sara stood up, grunting at she did so in pain and said. "Thank you very much, but I'll be on my way."
She tried to walk but fell down, yelping in agony.
"Oh dear!" Ivern said, scooping Sara up into his giant hands and beginning to walk deeper into the forest with giant strides and a big smile on his face.
Sara panted, almost blacking out from the pain shooting up her leg. She had no idea what would happen to her now.
Later
Sara sat on the ground, her back against a rock as her leg was now bandaged, and feeling much better.
Hearing footsteps, she looked up to see Ahri kneeling in front of her.
"Hi." Sara greeted simply, not in the mood for pleasantries.
"I am sorry for what I did." Ahri replied sadly.
"Why were you trying to drain my soul in the first place?" Sara asked with a dangerous edge to her voice.
"I need to feed." Ahri defended.
"Then drain the souls of animals, Jesus, it's not that difficult." Sara rolled her eyes. Ahri shrugged and looked at the blonde woman with a lustful smile.
Sara looked at her blankly and said. "Your charms are impressive, but I'm not into forest creatures."
"Forest creature?!" Ahri looked offended, and her eyes began glowing blue. Sara looked back, unintimidated.
"I'm not in the mood for this shit." Sara snarled. Ahri backed off slightly, her eyes widened. She seemed so cold and depressed from the memories she saw.
"Sorry." Ahri cringed slightly.
Sara sighed. "Sorry, I'm just not feeling well right now."
"Your leg, right?" Ahri guessed.
"Yes."
Ahri's fox ears perked up and she looked around to see Ivern walking up to them, the same smile on his wooden face.
"Everything happens for a reason, you know, Sara." Ivern said to her.
"Really?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Yes indeed. But you can always learn to overcome it. Something isn't beautiful, because it lasts." Ivern said.
Sara looked down, deep in thought, and nodded.
"The waters here can allow you to walk better. I would not recommend putting too much pressure on it." Ivern said.
Sara looked him dead in the eyes, but saw no malice there. Just genuine kindness and concern.
She nodded and slowly stood up, wincing as she did. Sara rolled her pant leg up and placed in the ice cold water, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Feel better?" Ivern asked kindly.
"Yes. Much better." Sara said. Whatever was in the water seemed to ease the pain in her leg.
"When do you plan on leaving?" Ahri asked.
"Soon. About a day." Sara replied tiredly.
"All right!" Ivern said, turning to walk away.
"Lady…are you okay?"
Sara whipped around on hearing a soft, sweet and quiet voice and saw a woman with blue and purple hair and long ears that looked like those of an elk.
She had fair skin and held a staff in her hands. She was hidden behind a tree.
"Hello…?" Sara greeted back hesitantly.
"You, you are here looking for the Boots of Lucidity, right?" she replied shyly.
"Oh, hey Lillia," Ahri greeted. "You can come out."
"Come out?" Sara asked, confused.
She was answered when Lillia walked out from behind the tree. Her lower body was that of a small deer, brown with white spots, thin legs in the end of them. A fluffy tail perked from the back of her body.
"Hello there." Lillia said shyly, this time with a Scottish accent.
"Why does she sound Scottish?" Sara thought to herself. This whole thing confused her.
"Are you a Vastaya?" Sara asked instead.
"No, she is a Dream Fawn, spawned from the Dreaming Tree." Ahri interjected.
"Oh! That makes sense." Sara nodded, remembering hearing about the God Willow.
"You are searching for the Boots of Lucidity?" Lillia guessed.
"How do you even know about that?" Sara frowned.
"I…overheard it." The Bashful Bloom said, blushing in embarrassment. "Some come to the Gardens to forget. Some…to lose themselves."
"Okay, but yes I am." Sara said, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion. Ahri let out a bark of laughter, but was ignored.
"I am going to go now, Eep!" Lillia scampered back into the bushes.
"This world is getting stranger and stranger." Sara shook her head in amusement.
She laid her head on the soft moss, deciding to wait until morning before setting out on her quest.
A vision flashed in her mind, of a pretty, blue haired woman. The name Caitlyn flashed as well.
"Who the hell is Caitlyn?" Sara murmured, feeling some sort of attraction to the woman, even though she had never met her before.
The next day
Birds chirped on nearby trees as Sara prepared to go. Hearing footsteps, she turned as Ahri walked up to her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I am going to come with you. I want to find out who my parents are, and you want to go get the Boots." Ahri revealed.
Sara looked at her with suspicion.
"And what's going to stop you from killing me while I sleep?" Sara asked.
"I swear on the Spirit of Ionia that I won't." Ahri replied.
"Okay, but if I catch a hint of you doing this to anyone else, I will kill you." Sara warned.
"Deal." Ahri sighed.
"And you?" Sara asked, looking at Ivern.
"I just came to wish you good luck." Ivern smiled, his eyes twinkling.
"Thanks." Sara nodded.
"I will give you a piece of advise, Ms. Lance," Ivern said. "All that is gold does not glitter, and not all those who wander are lost."
"All right." Sara bowed her head slightly.
She looked at Ahri. "Shall we?"
"We shall." Ahri gave a lustful smirk.
Giving one last nod to the Green Father, she turned and began walking away slowly.
Sara and Ahri walked through the forest as the latter walked in front. As they did, Sara heard an "Eep!"
She whipped around as deer legs scampered behind a tree. Sara groaned in realization.
"Lillia, what the hell are you doing here?"
"I…was following you. Your dreams are very special. Important." Lillia said, blushing.
Sara looked over at Ahri, who just shrugged with a small smirk, making her groan in annoyance.
"Listen, Lillia, there's no need to follow me anywhere here." She said gently.
"But…" Lillia tried to protest.
"Listen, Sara, maybe she can help locate the Boots," Ahri intervened. "She is greatly connected to the magic of the land, she can help."
Sara groaned and face-palmed. After a few moments, she looked over at Lillia.
"Okay…fine, you can tag along. This is getting to be a quite a party here." She said.
Lillia's ears perked up and she beamed.
"Oh thank you!" she exclaimed, rushing forward and tackling Sara in a hug.
"Woah, easy there." Sara murmured, but returned the hug nonetheless.
"Well…let's get going." Ahri said.
Sara nodded and turned to walk away, Lillia following her shyly.
And like that, the quest was on its way.
And this is done too.
So two new champions have debuted. The first is Ivern aka The Green Father.
And the second is Lillia aka The Bashful Bloom.
Lore wise, I would rank Ivern as a solid A tier, which means great. His lore is great and his voice interactions are funny as hell.
Lillia on the other hand…is average right now. She could be good or even great, but Riot isn't doing much with her.
If they do something major with her in the future, maybe she can get bumped up higher.
As for Lillia sounding Scottish, even I don't understand. Like I get that they use different voice actors/actresses to expand the game to different countries, but what the hell is the in-Universe explanation?
It would be so confusing for anyone not from Runeterra. They would all be wondering why Lillia sounds Scottish, or why Caitlyn has a British accent.
Thankfully, I have an explanation for that, and it will be revealed in the next chapter.
So now Ahri and Lillia will help Sara find the Boots, and they will be joined by one other Ionian champion.
Hope everyone enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
